This place is so tiny but man can they pack a lot of baked goods in their pastry case! And evidentially this is the go to weekend treat spot for bothell and the eastside. My fiance and I picked them to do our wedding cake. I just can't justify spending $6 per slice on a piece of cake. I wouldn't spend that much on myself at a special store for a nice slice...let alone for all my wedding guest, when some people don't even like cake and you ALWAYS see how much goes to waste. So I decided to go the route of most modern brides, and do a simple, elegant cutting cake. We made an appointment for 12pm on a saturday afternoon. I got a call a couple days before letting me know that they needed to reschedule because the cake decorated had a family emergency. So we rescheduled for the same time, next week. We show up and man this place is packed on the weekends. Another couple getting married was in there and they were taking about an hour and a half to pick out all their wedding cake stuff...must have been a big cake...we were in and out in about 30 minutes TOPS. Since it was a busy weekend, they didn't have an extra table for us to sit, so they let us sit in the back office room. Not the most scenic places to sit but they were very apologetic about it. The kid working gave us a slice of chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream and a slice of vanilla with strawberry filling. I thought he was bringing us more based on the number of varieties they had on the list but that was it... I was a little unimpressed by that despite the fact that the cake was GOOD. So I asked the cake decorator lady who was very nice, if they had some samples in the back of the other frostings available, so she went back and brought us another little slice of cake to mix and match flavors with - that's more like it. Again, our wedding cake is not the main focus of the day and I am doing a bunch of petite desserts, so my goal was to find a place that was reasonably priced and tasted good, and this is the place I found. Just moved to the area and stopped in for something sweet. I grabbed the orange cinnamon chip muffin and it was amazing. So airy and packed full of flavor. The muffin top was the best but the bottom muffin part was moist and delicious. I will certainly be going back for their daily-made fresh breads and cookies. Yum! read more

The cinnamon roll was excellent. The dough was tender, flavorful and baked to perfection, even throughout. The icing was delicious and decadent. Not heavy or over done on the outside and gummy on the inside. I can't remember eating a better roll. I will return to try other goodies. read more

I was frantically trying to find a white cake with real buttercream frosting in one day. They had some on hand, when no other bakery did, but they ended up being willing to make me one the day of. I told the lady on the phone that the recipient liked wild colors and legos and we got the cake home and it was done extremely creatively, looks delicious, and is perfect! We've been devotees of Hillcrest Bakery for 40 years. Every birthday, baptism, anniversary and a couple wedding cakes were consistently wonderful. The last cake for our last Sweet Sixteen Soiree was a terrible disappointment. After sitting with the head decorator to arrive at the perfect design; came the day of the party...when I opened the box, I was aghast at the muddled version of what my daughter had been so excited to have designed as the centerpiece of the dessert bar. It looked like I, who have absolutely no skill in fondant, decided to decorate my youngest's dream cake and completely failed. Far from being the focal it was quickly draped with a ton of curling ribbon and mini-balloons- which looked pretty darn cool, if I say so myself! Tho' it was not of the theme my daughter wanted, the colors of curling ribbon and baloons tied in with the supporting color scheme...We'll go back for pastries and basic flowery cakes, but we'll never entrust another themed fondant creation to Hillcrest...:( read more

Ordered a cake for a baby shower I was throwing and I was very pleased with the results. They made a cake for my engagement party not too long ago as well. I actually live out of state now and they were so easy to work with. Everyone loved the cake and it was absolutely delicious! If you want a good cake you have to be willing to spend the money to get it! They definitely make it worth your while but of course a good cake comes at a high price, duh! I love Hillcrest! I visited here with my coworkers after they had glowing reports about it, then brought my significant other here, and now can't wait to bring my family with lil ones to enjoy all the sweet treats. It's neat to see a business that has been in place for so long (since 1934). They do an excellent job of taking the time to intentionally provide delicious and cute bake goods. My partner and I both noticed the extra attention that was put into frosting each slice of cake all the way around it to look like miniature cakes, and the bismarks are filled with the perfect ount of custard, and topped with maple glaze (which everyone knows is the best). Their products are not overpriced. Their to-go coffees are all the same price and if you dine-in the coffee mugs have free refills. The pecan rolls have raisins inside, which make them great, and they'll even warm up the pecan roll. The only downside is there isn't much seating and since this place is wonderful, they have a steady stream of customers. The good news is that it's close to the landing, which makes it a great place to grab a treat and coffee and go for a walk or enjoy it at the park. read more

OH MY GOODNESS!! what a great place! I found them on yelp- and this was my first time in Bothell. With time to spare, I had a sweet tooth and wanted something good. Needless to say the staff lady that helped me & patiently described each item i inquired about was wonderful!! She even complemented my earrings & taught me the name of the stone- who knew great desserts come with an education too! I LOVE this bakery. It was one of my favorite childhood memories to visit this bakery and I still return there as an adult. The apple fritters are huge and delicious and the pecan rolls are gooey amazingness. As someone who is not a huge chocolate fan I also love the assortment of non-chocolate desserts as well. The almond cookies and pastries are fantastic. If you aren't sure what to order or just can't decide between a few options, just ask their friendly staff. They are always happy to help and package up your to-go treats with care if you aren't staying to snack on them in a booth at the bakery itself. I've stopped in here multiple times and I have never been disappointed. The pecan rolls, apple fritter and English toffee cookies are amazing! I only wish they had pecan rolls without raisins, but they were still quite good. The service is always good. The two guys that work there like to joke around a lot and the girl that was there one day was polite and quick. I've noticed some of the reviews talk about flies buzzing around and the place being dirty, but it was always clean and pest free when I've gone in. read more

Very disappointed with the wedding cake we hired them to make. The taste was alright, nothing memorable. How it looked was. The design we ordered was very simple that any "professional" bakery should be able to execute. Instead it looked like a shoddy amateur made it, complete with uneven color (just one required!), sloppy lines, and patched up in places. After seeing it at her wedding, the bride wanted to cry with disappointment, but didn't have the heart to tell the bragging baker. We went to this bakery after reading glowing reviews here as we were looking for an afternoon treat. We easily found this bakery on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The place was deserted; the girl at the counter was sick, so understandably not in the most joyous of moods. Needless to say, we were in the mood for cannolis and almond pastries. We ordered one of each. Both were extremely disappointing. The cannoli was a mere imitation of what a cannoli should be. The shell was not crunchy and the filling was cloyingly sweet and not filled with smooth ricotta. It didn't taste like ricotta at all. Oddly enough, we found that the Costco pre-made cannolis to be of "better" quality. And those aren't even that great. We were hoping for better with the almond strudel seeing as some reviews called these out. Sadly, it was dry and not flaky. The almond filling was grainy and also unusually sweet. Having had both of these desserts in their respective countries, we were extremely disappointed that they weren't even pale comparisons. Its possible that our Sunday afternoon timing wasn't perfect for freshness of the products, but they were bad enough that we'll never go back. read more

The baked goods are delicious. I have even special ordered cakes from them in the past that were great. But last week I called at 10:30 in the morning to order my birthday and my order was very obviously not wanted. I just needed a cake with a design that was not difficult. She refused to let me send her a picture and her reaction was as though I was asking for something elaborate. She was rude and rushing to get out. She launched into telling me what time she arrived that morning and saying she was ready to leave and I am not placing my order far enough in advance etc. She had plenty of reasons why my order was an inconvenience to her so I just said 'thank you' and hung up while she was listing her woes. It was super disappointing. The next morning I placed the same order with another bakery iand it was no problem. 9" round cake. White with fruit filling in the middle. I learned the design is called an ombre with rosettes. So lesson learned and moved on. read more
