Unfortunately I had a bad experience with this company. I called them to get a quote for a house call to do a full-home rekey. They had a technician call me back, who wouldn't provide an estimate over the phone despite what it says on the website. On the phone, the technician said he was with LA Best Locksmith. When the technician arrived, I learned LA Best Locksmith subcontracted the job to another company (different company name on the shirt, invoice, etc), despite what he said on the phone. The technician quoted $1000 to rekey 8 regular residential key cylinders (rekey only, no new hardware). I told him that was way too high, and he lowered the price to $670 after realizing some of the locks could be rekeyed without removing the cylinder. He then started to rekey the locks before we had agreed on that price, and got agitated when I told him to stop work. After he called his manager, I negotiated the price down to $450, still above average as far as I can tell, but not as bad as before. The technician was apparently trying to charge me as much as possible from the beginning with pushy tactics, instead of providing an honest price for the work upfront. The work itself was good, but I was taken advantage of. Be warned that your house call may be subcontracted out to a company like this! read more

This business and the people who work for them are scammers who completely take advantage of people in a tight spot. I was locked out of my apartment so called them to get a quote over the phone. I was quoted roughly 80-90$ is what it "usually costs." After waiting for longer than I was told originally - almost 50 minutes - the man looks at my simple door lock and says it'll be $325. I asked him to do anything lower and he ended up charging me 300. All he did was pick the lock in under 5 minutes. Obviously he knew I was in a tight situation at 9pm at night and he fully took advantage of me and the situation. There is no policy or structure other pricing. You just Venmo the person who shows up and takes one look and makes up a number. Do not use them or trust the other good reviews like I did! Pros - I got back into my apartment at night relatively quickly. The locksmith (David) arrived about 35 minutes after I called. Of the 3 locksmiths I called, they were the only ones to respond. Cons - The pricing inconsistency. Here's my issue: I was quoted $240 per lock (my front gate and front door, one lock each), but told he could do both for $240. He said the price was higher because my gate had a deadbolt lock which was harder to open... makes sense. However, I got my neighbor to let me in our building through the back gate so he could open my back door instead. I figured if he had to drill the lock, I preferred a hole *not* going through the lock of my front door for everyone to see. My back door also had two locks, but no gate with a deadbolt. He still quoted me the same price of $240 for labor. Maybe I could have negotiated more. Maybe he got over on me being a woman alone. I don't know. Paid via Zelle because he "couldn't get his boss' Venmo," which is obviously a lie, but again, I was desperate to get in as my phone was dying. If you have the time, maybe shop around a bit. This was my best option 9pm at night. read more

When I told him not to, and his key fob doesn't work. The work he did on the Volvo has caused the electrical system of the interior lights to no longer work. I can no longer lock any of the doors on the car period. When I reached out to have him correct the f ups. He said another $300 and I said fu! He has blocked me from his number and gave me a receipt that ripped the name of the company logo off. I had to have a detective find this information out. In that moment, I didn't know how to respond. I felt pressured and unsure how to protect myself, so I gave answers just to get through the situation. I ended up blocking him immediately afterward, because I didn't know what his intentions were. I also paid over $300 for this service, and instead of feeling safe and relieved afterward, I felt unsettled and violated. That's not something anyone should walk away with after calling for help. It feels risky to share this, but I think others--especially women--deserve to know. I spoke with Elad on the yelp messaging and I let him know about another quote I got from another business. I let him know I would have hired the other business, but that they weren't able to work with me until Saturday. He said he couldn't match the same deal, but gave me a similar deal. He ended up charging me $10 more than the other company that wasn't available until Saturday. ($150 for a key fob, programming, and labour). He said he was able to do that price because he was going to be in my area anyway. Normally that isn't his pricing. The entire process took about 30-40 minutes. Agree with many of the other reviews here stating that this emergency service is very shady and very expensive- $350 for one residential lock. Pros: My technician was kind and relatively quick to arrive and fix it. Cons: Extremely expensive. I requested a quote over the phone as advertised on their website, and only until I threatened to hang up did he cave and provide a initial quote of $45. Once he was at the door and making an "assessment," it was $350 because it was a "smart lock." This was a regular residential doorknob. I thought, your job is to be smarter than it, not just drill it off! Cost breakdown is not communicated to you beforehand, and it seems that prices are extremely inconsistent between case to case. I very much feel like I got scammed precisely because I had no choice to let him drill my door to get it open. Understandable to charge around $200 for an emergency call, but this was over a third of $1000 here for one doorknob... Edit: Alon from LA Best Locksmith reached out to me to offer me a partial refund. I strongly appreciate his attention to his customers and his attempt to rectify what happened. Out of courtesy to him, I am editing my review here. This very well could be a one off incident. With this partial refund, the cost more adequately matches the service. read more
