Food was pretty good . There were too many flies when we ate outside. Somebody should have been cleaning more out there . I went to get a box. One of the employees was blowing their nose then handed me the box without washing their hands. But the food was great
Definitely the best Neapolitan style pizza I've had in San Diego. My friend ordered the Bankers hill and I ordered a Margherita. The dough was crispy and light and everything was fresh. I also ordered an original hilly cheesesteak and it was better than most but I am realizing I just don't care much for cheesesteaks so don't feel qualified to comment on it. There is limited seating but it's adequate for the amount of pies they can turn out at once. Everything is made fresh to order and it's definitely worth the wait. They're situated in a slightly less busy part of university but parking is limited so it's a trade off.
Stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday night, but we didn't realize that it's outdoor seating only so we decided to make our order to-go. There's only a few tables in the narrow alley space, and a single heatlamp that wasn't on despite it being winter. As service is ordering at a small counter with no table service, this place is really just pushing for takeout orders. We ordered the Paradise Hills pizza and the Pepper Hilly cheesesteak sandwich. The food was a pretty big letdown. I enjoy the leoparding of neopolitan style crust, but the pizza was beyond burnt and had a bitter taste, and the sandwich was underwhelming in flavor. Service was also disappointing, when they gave us our sandwich they forgot we had ordered a pizza and it had been sitting for an extra 10 minutes getting cold. Based on other reviews it seems like this might not be the norm and we caught them on an off night. With so many other better pizza places in the area (like Bronx) we won't be returning.

Their crust is SO good! These really hit the spot on a rainy NYE. This pizza is delicious, we'll definitely be back! Quick service despite the evening/holiday rush and it's a cute little spot!
I only have great things to say about my experience at HillCrust. We were a fairly large group of 12 and were really hungry after going hiking earlier in the evening. We arrived and were fortunate enough to find some seating outside on the patio and put the tables together to fit our group. We ordered close to 8 or 10 pizzas. I honestly cannot remember but each and every single one of them was absolutely delicious. Some of my absolute faves were the margherita pizza, East Village pizza, classic cheese pizza, Kensington pizza, and one of the ones we created with the pepperoni and the ribeye (Pavlov stop because I cannot stop drooling). The margherita pizza was a perfect neopolitan style pizza with plentiful mozzarella and a nice drizzle of olive oil. The crust was thin and had just the right char without being burnt. The Kensington pizza had lots of pine nuts and the arugula on top was *chef's kiss* with lots of different types of cheeses. But my absolute favorite was the one we created. It was with pepperoni and ribeye steak. The pepperoni was nice and crispy. With PLENTY of pepperoni per slice. The ribeye was scattered throughout the pie and was portioned adequately. My favorite part about dining here was that it was all delicious. And what made it even better was that usually there are not very many halal options available in this area but the halal pizza came to save the day. Not only was it good pizza but it was good halal pizza! Dare I say, that it's the best halal pizza I have had in the US ever!!!
Horrible, horrible customer service. The pizza was good but will not be patronizing this establishment again based on their response to an issue I had. I ordered a cheese pizza with fresh ricotta for delivery. I received a margherita pizza. I contacted the platform I ordered through and they told me they spoke with the manager, and he said he "could not refund because that's how they make their pizzas". When I replied that was not true with photo evidence, the restaurant then said they had made another pizza and "a guy" came to pick it up. I told them I neither received another pizza, nor was I even informed I would be getting another pizza. Then they said the manager told them that *I* came and picked up the pizza. 1 - I'm female. 2 - I was too sick to leave my house to walk to the restaurant across the street, I was absolutely not getting in my car to drive anywhere. It's unfortunate because I would have come back here because the food quality was good but I work in hospitality myself and it's clear these people don't care about retaining customers. There are enough other pizza places to choose from that treat you way better.
I don't say this lightly HillCrust serves the best pizza I've ever had. From the first bite, it was clear this place is on a different level. The flavors were bold, fresh, and perfectly balanced in a way that's hard to find anywhere else. But let's talk about the crust, because it truly deserves its own moment. It was absolutely incredible the kind of crust that makes you rethink every pizza you've had before. The texture, the chew, the flavor all dialed in to perfection. And the drinks menu? Solid selection that paired beautifully with the food. Whether you're grabbing take out or sitting down, they've got you covered. HillCrust isn't just a pizza spot it's an experience. Highly recommend to anyone who takes their pizza seriously. I'll definitely be back!
Hillcrust Pizza is a hidden gem in Hillcrest. I tried the Golden Hill and Bankers Hill pizzas (halal) -- both were excellent. I really like that their pepperoni and bacon aren't pork, so I can actually enjoy them. You can taste the quality in every bite. There's no indoor seating, but the cozy outdoor area has a nice vibe. Jay, Timmy, and Karen were all super friendly and made us feel welcome. Definitely worth a stop when you're in the area.
Hillcrust Pizza in Hillcrest area makes a selection of pizzas which they named after neighborhoods in San Diego. After strolling at the Hillcrest Farmer's market, I saw lots of vendors offering Indian foods and it got my appetite craving Tikka Masala, but also wanted pizza. I remembered a pizza shop nearby who makes Chicken Tikka Masala pizza and decided I strolled down to Hillcrust Pizza, always on my list to try but since I usually eat only 1 or 2 slices, and this shop only sells the whole pizza pie, Not by the slice :( I couldn't decide on the neighborhood pizza choices and I was craving indian food, so I ordered the chicken tikka masala pizza. It's 12 inches, I requested extra masala sauce, cheese and cilantro. Service by the staffer Zia was helpful and cool. There's a small outdoor patio with shade. The pizza was prepared and presented nicely and looked alluring...sadly the masala sauce wasn't as I expected; lacked more Indian seasoning: cardamom cumin, ghee and a tad of sweetness and spiciness. I tried two slices and had difficulty eating both, the flavors were not even close. And such a disappointment and waste of $30++ for an inedible pizza. Perhaps the neighborhood pizzas were better, but I'm not in a hurry to return and take a chance on being disappointed again especially when I could have had edible and better pizza by the slice... My suggestion to Hillcrust is they should sell pizza by the slice, perhaps, they will attract more customers, who are willing to try various pizza flavors and not commit to one whole pizza pie. I know lots of Urban Mo customers will agree: Why have one pizza lover when you can have more than one! ;)

We got both the Chicken Tikka Masala and the South Park. The Chicken Tikka Masala had a nice flavor to it and I really loved the amount of cilantro they put. It really addes a lot of freshness to the pizza. The Masala sauce was very flavorful and I do with they added more. They add some streaks of the sauce around vs. it being a fully-sauced masala base. This does make it taste a bit lighter and not so heavy though. The South Park was also very nice and I enjoyed the sausage crumbles giving it a bit of a nice crunchy bite. I personally would have liked to see some more tomato sauce on the pizza however. The crust overall had a nice texture too with a nice crispy bite but still being slightly doughy.
My go-to for pizza takeout in Hillcrest. Consistently delicious- crispy crust, flavorful toppings, perfect sauce/cheese ratio. I've tried a few different menu items but always come back to the basic Margherita. They have a good mix of your classic pies and some other unique options, all named after San Diego communities which is a nice touch. More expensive than a fast food pizza joint but less expensive than some other upscale pizza spots in the Hillcrest/north park area. My only qualm is that the price of adding extra toppings is a bit steep (a drizzle of Mike's Hot honey is $2.50) but tis life. Can't comment on the dine in experience but delivery + takeout is always quick and the pizza always hot. Will return!

I loved the pizza hear!! The dough was so delicious, I would go back for the dough alone. They also had amazing pizza combinations, including some unique ones too. I also tried their gluten free crust and vegan cheese and they were so tasty. The crust wasn't better than the regular gluten crust but it was good for being gluten free! The vegan cheese was also surprisingly creamy for being vegan. They had nice outdoor seating. All the parking is street parking. The staff was very friendly and patient will I sifted through all their menu options, it was so hard to choose just one pizza to try! I will be back! read more
A friend introduced me to this pizza venue when we got together for dinner in the area. Place is small with most of its seating outdoors in the patio area. We walked over from our previous location, and I noticed very little street parking. We ordered two pizzas, cheese and peperoni. Both were very good. I like the thin crust. Service was quick and fast. When we arrived, the location was empty but by the time we left, it was packed. Overall, great little local location for good pizza. read more
Giiiiiirlllll, run don't walk to Hillcrust! Their menu has so much to choose from, so everyone is guaranteed to find something that appeals to them. Red sauce, white sauce, honey drizzle, pepperoni, walnuts. Literally everything! The staff offers great recommendations and they're so friendly! There's a small outside patio where you can eat, and it's especially cute at night. Definitely recommend the banker's hill pizza! Can't wait to go back! read more
You had me at fresh, and crunchy crust! Executive summary. Depth of flavor:5/5 Service:5/5 - Karen was very attentive. Good for groups:5/5 Parking:3/5 Drinks:4/5 We ordered the Hillcrest pizza and the Golden Hill pizzas. The Hillcrest had an egg in the middle was a nice touch that added to the fresh crisp and crunchy crust underneath the layers of fresh mozzarella cheese, bacon, spinach and red bell peppers. Arugula salad was fresh, with the right amount of tart and light sweetness. We also ordered the Golden Hill pizza was cooked just right. Ooey and gooey melted cheese that was layered underneath the crispy pepperoni slices. The foundation of this tasty pizza is the thin and crispy pizza crust. The crust on both of these pizzas were amazingly fresh and Oh My Gosh I'll be back deliciousness! The Golden Hill pizza came on a one way ticket from flavor town! Very fresh, and a voluminous amount flavor that your taste buds will thank you later! The Philly cheesesteak was a home run also! Parking is limited so get here early or be prepared to take ankle express to get here. You can walk the calories off after. Karen was our server and she was very friendly and attentive. read more

this small joint will surprise you with its fresh flavorful thin crust pizza. We are vegetarians, so customized their margherita pizza by adding burnt garlic, raw jalapeño , cherry tomatoes. It was phenomenal. Would be great if they can bring in more vegetarian pizza options in the menu. But whatever they do, they have got it down to perfection. Great customer service as well. read more
Not afraid to say that I devoured this whole pizza in one sitting. There's nothing to not like about Hillcrust Pizza-unless you don't like your pizzas thin, crispy, and loaded with toppings. I especially love that all of the meat here is halal. I don't know a pizza place with better quality ingredients than this one. I sat outside in the alleyway where they had plenty of seating for my friends (a group of ~8) and my friends and I all had a positive experience. They also were able to seat a whole other family of 10 besides us and have some other seats available too. We'll definitely be back if we are craving a good crispy pizza! read more
I got the golden hill again but this time with the gluten free crust . I was super disappointed in the gf crust. I would describe as really doughy and not crisp at all. It actually seemed like it was undercooked. It is hard to find a good gf crust read more
This is a very cute pizza place in Hillcrest with a really sweet owner/manager. You order at the counter and then the gentleman brings your order to one of the nice outdoor tables. Cute outside, pup friendly space with a bathroom to boot. We ordered the margherita pizza and the house salad. The salad was fresh and the dressing was homemade and delicious. I could easily have eaten a whole one by myself. The pizza was very good. The crust was crispy and tasty and the sauce was delicious. The cheese was not as plentiful or as salty as i would have liked but overall a yummy experience. read more

Wow i can get pizza in San Diego that is made just like the pizza in Naples Italy. This quaint spot in Hillcrest is a special find.. cook has just arrived from Italy and pizza is fantastic. We will definitely put this place on our list to frequent Often .... read more

I don't usually leave reviews, and I'm torn because I do like this spot. The owner is really nice and I love the variety of unique pizzas. The first time I went I had a great experience dining in, but unfortunately, returning for pickup wasn't as great. We were quoted about 10 minutes and it took about 25, which is honestly no big deal but when my friend received our pizza it was made incorrectly. The owner did offer to my friend to remake it, but we didn't want to continue waiting for a new pizza. When my friend returned home, I saw that they also forgot to include my ranch, which I did pay extra for. Also, in my opinion, the pizza enough cheese for how much sauce there was. I'll include a photo. Honestly I was just kind of disappointed with my experience because I do like this place, the staff and the menu. Just think a little more attention needs to be paid on to go orders. read more

Pizzas were fantastic and freshly made. Ordered the Golden Hill (pepperoni, bacon, hot honey) and the Boulevard (white pizza) to-go. I really enjoyed the flavors and the crust was to die for, so chewy and delicious. The service was fine. I had ordered ahead and had to wait about 10min more when I got there because they were slammed (Saturday night). I'll keep this in mind next time and order with more time in advance. I took it to--go, but the ambiance looked nice if you were to dine there. They had a an outdoor patio seating that looked private (not out in a sidewalk) which seems nice! The pizzas aren't huge but they are sooo flavorful and delicious read more

Awesome pizza. Friendly staff and cool outdoor seating . Will be back and glad I made the trip from the hotel. The best pizza I have ever had . Coast to coast hands down best sauce to date. Been traveling America's and Europe for 35+ years . This one wins. read more
