Pile of chicken manure in front of the chicken coop.
    Susan S.

Bad egg farm. Not sure why anyone would buy eggs from this cage farm. These chickens are not free range and are cooped up and packed in a large chicken coop. They store a large pile of chicken manure right in front of the coop. The entire neighborhood smells of rancid eggs and poop. The poor chickens are packed in like sardines probably stressed out. To the owners clean up the poop and remove it off site!!! Why are you guys allowing the community to smell terrible and ruining the environment? Have some courtesy and respect for the community. The area is no longer farming and its majority residential homes. No decency or respect for all the home owners. Please folks don't buy from this farm who doesn't care about their chickens let alone the community of home owners. They spitefully let the manure stink up the air quality just for the hell of it. Not good neighbors!!!

**May 2023: Monday Morning Visit** Honestly, when I'm at home I buy the cheapest eggs at the grocery store; however, since I was staying nearby I thought I'd support small and purchase some fancy eggs. My friend and I drove up on a late weekday morning and were the only patrons there. You'll go through a dirt road and see some milk cows before seeing the little stall to grab your goods. This family owned farm has been operating since 1942 and houses over 30,000 hens! The area definitely smells like it, but that means it's a working farm! They sells Medium, Large, and Jumbo eggs (both white and brown). I bought a dozen brown eggs for $4.50. I can confirm the yolks are orange. I'd be open to come back and patron them on my next visit to Lakeside!

Great quality fresh eggs and milk for a great price! Especially with the egg prices at the grocery stores right now, this can't be beat.

Ask the Community - Hilliker's Fresh Eggs

Do they sell manure as well?

Do they sell fertile eggs here?

    Do they sell ostrich eggs?

Last I asked they did, however they only have a couple per year so you have to be EXTREMELY lucky with timing. So technically yes, but basically no.

    Is admission and parking free?

This is an egg ranch. They sell the eggs to the public both here and at certain grocery stores. There are a few parking places with no charge for parking.

    Do they take debit/credit?

    Cash!

The woman at check‑in was very nice and gave us a map plus a quick rundown of the layout so we knew exactly where to go. I'm obsessed with pigs, so I was very excited to meet their adorable pot‑belly pig at the front named Toffee. Tickets were on the pricier side, but honestly worth it -- the money supports an organization that gives animals of all kinds a safe, loving place to live. They also sell produce grown on the farm, along with drinks and snacks you can enjoy while walking around the grounds. They offer upgraded experiences for an additional cost if you want something more hands‑on. We went on a bright, sunny day, and it was HOT -- definitely recommend sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and comfy walking shoes. I was in heaven here. They have goats, camels, pigs, horses, a zebra, and more. You can easily spend the whole day here -- come early to beat the heat and the crowds. It's truly an animal lovers' paradise and a great place to learn about animals, be outside, and have some fun, all while supporting an amazing nonprofit doing meaningful work. A wholesome, memorable outing and a great day trip for families, friends, or anyone wanting to try something new.

First off it's huge and you are allowed to feed and pet ALL of the animals! They have so much to see! Cows, pigs, camels, and even a zebra!! All of the animals were super friendly and adorable. We even saw the smallest mini horse ever that was so cute. There are also cats that roam the property and one of them followed us throughout the whole place. Can you ask for a cuter tour guide?! They also grow their own produce and sell eggs. We picked and cut our own pumpkins and left with some duck eggs as well! Overall this was just the most fun experience I've ever had. I regret not purchasing the membership because ever since I left I keep thinking about how bad I want to come back! This is definitely a hidden gem and a fantastic experience.

We did the $20 lavender you pick experience, the people working in the shop wrapped up our lavender so nicely and even made extra little bundles for each of my twins to keep with the extra that we had picked. My twins also picked out some delicious lavender chocolate. (That stuff is divine!) I bought the lavender honey. As a huge lavender fan, I love how strong the lavender taste is in this honey. We also bought some lavender lip balm, one of my twins picked out a stuffed animal camel and the other picked out a 3-D printed dragon. We had the absolute best time. We stayed for the camel talk, it was very informative. And then we came back a couple weeks later to bring grandma who was visiting from Oregon. She loved the place as well! The 3-D printed dragon that one of my twins picked out had broken, I messaged the owner explaining that he is autistic and was obsessed with the dragon in his favorite colors and asked if they ever print more. They were so kind and offered to replace it. They even bought the exact same colors and 3-D printed him an even bigger dragon than the original one we bought. I'm just blown away by the kindness, hospitality and generosity of the owners and staff at this place. We are huge fans and will definitely be back again. We've now visited three times.
