I was an extremely loyal customer of Hills, visiting almost every day. Then one morning I was at Hills and a waitress said something that another waitress started laughing hysterically at. I said to the first waitress "wow Heidi never laughed that hard at any of my jokes." Which I felt was a compliment to her, but regardless of my compliment the first waitress snidely replied "well that's because I'm actually funny!" So to that I responded "Well looks aren't everything!" For this act of standing up for myself, I was banned for life! It did not matter that I was an extremely loyal customer, nor did it matter that I was a disabled combat veteran. The only thing that mattered is I was a customer that had the unmitigated gall to reply in kind to a snide disrespectful waitress! A few months before that I used the restroom in Hills, and forgot to lock the bathroom door. An elderly employee who always wears a bandanna on his head walked in while I was peeing. Instead of immediately closing the door, like a normal human being would; he held the door open as wide as possible so two other customers and an 18 year old waitress could see me standing there holding my penis! Then after holding the door wide open for about 30 seconds, he said "Remember to lock the door!" As if that was not only appropriate, but part of his duties to teach customers to lock the door. This place is great if you want hearty comfort food. The service was incredible, and the food was above average. I had the patty melt, my partner had the club sandwich, and we split a peach cobbler a la mode for dessert. We came for breakfast. I wanted German sausage, but they were out. I saw Monte Cristo and jumped on that! It's one of my favorites! It came and it looked lovely! It was solid French toast and dusted with powdered sugar. It was three layers thick! I took a bite, and the texture was great, but there was a flavor that bothered me. I kept eating because I was paying for it. I got to the second half and then was able to see that one side was ham and processed Swiss cheese and the other was turkey and American cheese. Yuck! Was told by a friend this place was good. We walked in and it seemed busy, smelled like a home cooking restaurant. We ordered soup and salad. The Salad was old and had a brown color. It only consisted of lettuce. Nothing else. The soup was homemade but awful. I had the veggie beef and it had very large pieces of carrots and tomatoes at least 3". Tonight my family and I came to have dinner and had bad service. Barely had anyone come and check to make sure we had all we needed. Then the cook (the one with the man bun) came out brought us our dinner and utensils that never was placed on the table to begin with. So my review after multiple visits Love their liver Service is spotty in the weekend mornings. Drinks sit empty too long and sometimes various items are late. Service in the evening seems to be flawless Food is good. They normally have jumbo links on the menu. Love them. Hard to mess up breakfast. They have not!! Great pies. This is my go to, weekend breakfast, I'm hungover and need greasy food and probably another drink, spot hahaha. I insist on only eating in the back bar area, which reminds me of an early 80's basement, which I love. I always and only order Sheilas Potatoes. I love getting extra gravy and jam for my toast. I know several people have had issues with food quality, my friends included, but it has never been an issue for me. The ambiance and regulars are almost better than the food. The ladies that work the bar are my favorite in town and always keep me guessing with their off the wall comments. I love watching people come in for the first time and commenting on, well everything. It is usually an overwhelming experience for most newbies, which makes me love it even more. I posted a picture on Facebook once with the famous art piece of a topless lady on a velvet canvas with a black light above it...it got flagged and removed, SCORE! hahaha. I have actually seen people offer 500 dollars for it and been denied. I wouldn't recommend going here if you are expecting the best food ever, but you will definitely have an experience and probably glad you went as long as you aren't some stuck up grinch. Oh, and order the famous blood mary if that is your thing. I stick to getting sauced on the manmosas. read more

We went to Hills this evening and had the worst service we have had in a very long time. We frequent this restaurant quite often for breakfast and the service is outstanding. Breakfast is their way busier time of day and we have never been disappointed in the mornings. Tonight we were ignored, sat for 30 minutes and still only had drinks on the table. We left money for our drinks and left in frustration. While I'm sure we will return for breakfast, I would doubt we would ever try dinner there again. read more

Never eating here again.... food has always been good and have been eating here for years, until I sat in front of the kitchen window and saw the cook touch multiple plates of food after already being on the plate to be taken out to the tables. No gloves, very dirty hands, also was eating and touching his mouth, then rubbing his hands on his jeans. everyone in the kitchen was not wearing gloves, hair nets and I saw a lady wipe her nose and not wash her hands. I saw the same cook put his fingers in the hash browns and move them to make room or shift them for some reason, I looked at my plate of food and could see where it looked like indentations from fingers. I instantly was sickened and stopped eating and was disgusted. I wanted to say something to whomever but I don't think they would have cared Given the fact no one there was following any health codes. read more

This is the worst breakfast experience Ive ever had. The service was poor, waitress couldn't remember who ordered what, forgot our toast and dropped a cup of jelly on the floor and didnt bring us another one. On top of the crap service a waitress hit my 4 year old son with the lounge door and instead of apologizing and making sure he was ok, she started making excuses for what happened immediately, I ordered cornbread hash and it was undercooked hashbrowns that someone sprinkled meat on as an afterthought. My orange juice was warm and no syrup for my sons waffle, to add insult to injury, the price was ridiculous. I will never eat here again. read more

Price for value definitely wasnt there. We got bloody mary. Bland and watery. Chicken fried steak was the smallest I've ever had. On top of that it had no flavor and was tough. My husband had monte Cristo which was ok. The side winder fries are the best fries ever. Biscuits and gravy were not great either. For the money. Ihop is cheaper and so much better and more food. This is one of my all time favorite haunts in the Tri Cities. They aren't fancy but they're cool all the same! Their lounge is awesome, try a custom built Bloody Mary. They offer all menu items breakfast, lunch and dinner at any hour the restaurant is open. All their steaks, turkey ham etc are baked in house daily. There are min of 4 soups on spec made in house daily and their cinni rolls, bear claws and pies are also all baked in house! read more

We have eaten at Hills a few times. I would prefer to give 2.5 stars. It just depends on the day and what you order as to how good it is. Here are some good points, Biscuits and gravy are pretty good as are omelets, soup and a few of the dinners. Servers seem friendly. and food comes pretty quick. Some of the bad points, the pancakes are awful, chewy and taste a bit like fish. Like another reviewer mentioned, the grease tastes old and reused. I think this is the pancake problem. Hash-browns are never crispy. They have a very small bar in the back. Its quiet. Seems to have a regular following. The restaurant is very old and doesn't make you feel as if its "spic and span clean" at all. You almost walk in the kitchen when going to the bathroom. Strange, and when catching a glimpse, its a bit worrisome. Its an ok place, not great but ok. read more

Great diner atmosphere, including great diner wait staff. It's clearly a place where locals go to eat diner food. I only ate breakfast there so my review is somewhat limited. Still . . . I asked for my hashbrowns to be crispy and they weren't. Further, they tasted of oil and the oil had been around the block a few times. The scrambled eggs were dry, as in dried-out. On the positive side, they served very good whole-grain toast. And, on the positive side, this is probably one of the best places to eat breakfast in Richland, if that's a positive. read more

Today is Purple Heart Day, so I took the roommate, a WWII Purple Heart Veteran, out for breakfast. It's a big day as his story is on the front page of the TC Herald and he was getting some attention! Hill's is a small friendly local diner located at the triangle corner of Vista Way and Kennewick Ave. that was formerly Max's Broiler years ago. The ladies waiting tables are very attentive and nice, the prices are reasonable and if you like a dark cool place to get your drink on, the lounge is open! There is something on the menu that you'll like. Try it-- you'll like it. We both had the four-egg omelets with ham and cheese and I added bell pepper and onion. We both had the shredded hash browns (b'fast potatoes was the other option) and toast (other options were biscuits or cinnamon toast). I also had coffee, which they are always ready to refill, and a Mimosa, only $4.50 and they have Bloody Marys for the same price too. Thanks Debbie for the great service. Now I don't know what kind of eaters the other reviewers are, but the eggs and spuds fill a dinner plate and the two slices of toast come on a side plate. You decide if the portions are "not THAT big" or are "less food on the plate". I would have to argue otherwise. I didn't finish my hash browns and my roommate brought home half his omelet and toast and left most of his hash browns on the plate. Congratulations Nancy. Tom and Rhonda would be proud. read more
