Passable pizza in Hilo. We needed something quick to have in our B&B after a long day at Volcanoes NP - our teen jumped on Yelp and selected Hilo Pizza Company. We called and ordered two large pizzas - pepperoni and bruschetta - for pick up, along with a chocolate chip cookie and a fountain soda. We drove up to the brightly lit plaza which houses HPC in the drizzle and the fog. The pizza was ready within the 25 minutes they promised it would be. The establishment was small but elegant, and the service was friendly. Total was a little over $50 before tip, and we paid cash. Back in our room, we popped open the pizzas and enjoyed them. They were fresh but didn't blow me away - I preferred the bruschetta, the others enjoyed the pepperoni more. Strangely enough, both pizzas tasted better the next day, which meant we didn't have to buy dinner the following evening! So I am glad we ordered from Hilo Pizza Company!

Nothing much was open in the area when we came back from watching the sunset at Mauna Kea, so we opted for pizza. The staff was very lovely and ambiance felt "homey" with the way they chatted with customers. $21 for an 18 inch pepperoni pizza was a great deal - just perfect for 2 hungry people. Pizza was good and had a nice crust. Self-served soda machine (hence free refills) was a plus!

Ordered 3 pizzas for our Pizza party. First time ordering and couldn't get through. Come to find out, the entire day only 2 people were working. Once tried their 3 flavors, we enjoyed it!

Great, friendly service. We got a large chicken pesto and added mushrooms and red onions. The crust was very crispy and it delicious!

Here is my slice of pizza to go. SOGGY, COLD, GROSS.....obviously hired kids for the summer and did not bother interviewing. A complete sham of a slice of pizza. My dogs didn't even want it. Threw this garbage in the trash and ate McDonalds. Jeeze, hire kids that care. I can't believe you all ask for tips BEFORE and then serve this garbage. You won't last long. I have seen plenty of these places come and go. To bad, it was good when it first opened.

If we lived in the area (we came over from O'ahu to visit family), this would be our go-to pizza place. In fact, we came here twice in three days because we loved the pizza that much! Nice crispy crust, not too thick, not too thin - just perfectly right. As a pizza snub, I first was resistant to my husband's pick of the Reuben. We got the Bruschetta and Reuben toppings and they each were oh so ono. In fact, for our second visit, we just got the Reuben and were in pizza heaven. My husband's cousin, who lives in Hilo and had not heard of this place, said she will be a new regular. Highly recommended!

Pizza is okay, but really greasy. I put 2 stars for food and their cleanliness. They opened at 11- we got there at 11:05 for lunch and nothing was cleaned. Tables had food crumbs from the day before and same with the floors, they had dirt and footprints all over the ground. The girls watched me clean the table we sat at and didn't even think that they should clean the store. I get we came earlier than they probably expected, but that's stuff that should be done at every shift at closing. It takes two seconds to wipe down a table

We came here twice and both times pizza was on point. We recently traveled to NY and had such great pizza there and this place is the closest we could find to the pizza we had in NY city. It is so affordable and staff is super friendly. Will return again for sure.

Fresh fast great pizza. Small little shop, no sign outside so I drove right past it at first. Had to really look for it. The best way to spot it is the crowd of people eating and hanging out the door. Only service 1 size pizza or by the slice. But the selection by the slice is pre-selected. I went to order and they said they would do a split pizza because my daughter only wanted pepperoni and I wanted to add pineapple and jalapeño to my half. I must of had a new a new teammate because I the middle of my order another teammate had to come take over. I explained to her what I was wanted. I thought the prize was high but the. Again everything in Hawaii is high, however the mix up was I ended up getting 2 pizzas. Opps. They were going to reimburse me money but hey the pizza was good, and how doesn't love leftovers. So we boxed up the extra pizza after sharing a couple extra slices with our other friends and the pizza made the trip all the way to Honolulu to share with our family that couldn't come to the big island. The only downside is I wish they had more than 1 size, or maybe more choices when it comes to the premade slices.

Ohana welcomed!!! My kids spilled their drinks and made me work but man it was nice to be offered free water cups while we waited!

We spent two and a half months planning this event. My club treasurer and I confirmed the price on seven different occasions--five times over the phone and twice in person. Each time, we were quoted just over $600 with about a $110 in tips, which we paid in full two days before the party. However, the day before the event, we were told there was a miscalculation and we needed to pay another $400. Because our students had only fundraised the amount we were originally quoted, we had to remove two people from our party and downgrade our menu which did not include drinks anymore. We requested to bring our own drinks due to the last-minute budget change, but we were told we could "only bring alcohol and no outside sodas and juices." It was disappointing that this was the only accommodation offered to a group of high school students. During the party, we also encountered several cleanliness issues. We found hair in the food and cockroaches in the rice, as well as on the walls and near the buffet area. I am totally not joking about the food; I was shocked by what we saw. The servers were very polite and apologized when we let them know, but it was a major concern for us. I understand that accidents happen, but this was a very difficult situation for our club after so much careful planning. Personally, I will not be eating here again for a long time.

The reviews sold me. And then... reality arrived. The server was lovely but clearly trapped in a one-person reenactment of Kitchen Nightmares. Two of us ordered dinner at the same time. My partner received their entrée. Then their sides. Then time to reflect on life. I received... nothing. Not even "sorry"' from the kitchen. Only the server had the decency to acknowledge the mess. About 40 minutes later--after my partner had fully completed dinner, digestion, and emotional closure--they brought my entrée. I asked for extra veggies and "Thai hot." What I got was Mild Regret of neither with a garnish of panic: two heaping tablespoons of raw hot peppers dumped on top like a dare. That's not "Thai hot," that's "we forgot and now we're improvising." At this point, I asked for it to go, because I wasn't about to sit there eating solo like I missed the memo that dinner was a relay race. Also: summer rolls require basil. Basil. Not iceberg lettuce. Iceberg lettuce belongs in a 1994 suburban salad bar, not in Thai cuisine. There was zero concept of food arriving together, or being cooked to order, or basic culinary logic. That said--I'm a generous soul. They need a chance to redeem what was, without exaggeration, a masterclass in how not to run dinner service.

We were most impressed by the fact that the waitress made sure to split our Hilo local plate into two plates to make it much easier to share! We almost thought we had received two orders because of how well-plated they were. - Poke tower (8/10): Solid choice for an appetizer! There were ample portions of poke, and the flavors were nice. Not a super stand out dish though. - Hilo local plate (9.5/10): If you want to taste a wide range of Hawaiian cuisine in one dish, I would highly recommend getting this one! The Kalbi ribs were sooo good! They were juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The Kalua pork was pretty good, and both meats paired well with the rice which had an interesting savory haupia sauce drizzled on it. The mango chili slaw and pineapple salsa added a nice tang to balance everything out. - Triple lilikoi pie (5/10): Wayyy too sweet and sugary for our liking, and you can barely taste the lilikoi flavor. We ended up just picking at the graham cracker crust and couldn't finish the rest. It seemed like one of those desserts that are premade unfortunately, and we wish we hadn't ordered this dessert.

It was a proper salad with fresh local greens, sliced cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and another white shredded vegetable that I think was radish. My chicken was delicious and the portion of that was generous as well. I tasted my husband's curry but didn't really like the flavor. We didn't think of anything when we saw it the first time. By just looking at the name of it though, my immediate reaction was, "Is this a kombuchas bar??" Well, it is but it's not just kombuchas they serve; it's more than that. The breakfast/brunch dishes they serve (although they don't have a huge selection) are quite diverse. I do incorporate a lot of vegetarian/vegan diet into my daily meal routine so when I saw the Verdant Vegan I simply couldn't skip it. As my daughter and I usually split a plate when we dine together she agreed to this option of mine. Glad we did. This plate has all sorts of goodness included in it. Sautéed veggies, house-made lentil walnut chorizo, ginger beet kraut, fire-roasted jalapeno cashew crema, fire-roasted tomato salsa, and it's topped it off with sprouts. This whole thing comes with either purple sweet potato home fries or red rice (which we went with the purple sweet potato fries and ended up getting a side red rice. We also got the side kimchi and one egg sunny side up.) And we shared a 16oz Ceremonial Matcha latte as well. This vegan plate is way more than vegan. It's mighty as hell. For those who are still not sure about vegan options will definitely second guess it for something that isn't vegan/vegetarian. It's truly nutrition packed in so many different ways. If I lived close to this cafe, I would eat here once a week to enjoy this delightful meal. I am not kidding. I enjoyed the matcha latte very much although my daughter rated it as "okay". She likes her matcha in a very particular way so it unfortunately didn't impress her. This is not to say that she disliked it. She said it wasn't bad either. This place is a "walk in, order upfront, pick a table where you want to sit and one of the staff will bring your food to you" style cafe. Water is self-served. Once you are done with your meal you'll put your dirty dishes in the designated tub. I like this efficient style of serving food. This place has great vibes as well. A bit hippie-ish where bright dark colors such as purple and red are incorporated into the interior. There is even a stage where bands perform on certain days/times. Quite cool-looking. If you are visiting Hilo soon then put this place on your "must visit" restaurant list. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quality food will entertain you for sure.
