This place had pretty good rating so we wanted to try it out. Veg momos- momos were decent. The filling of veggies was a bit less, but the taste was good. These momos were different than what we've had at Everest or other places. The chutneys were good too. Malai Kofta and Naan- I must say, their naan is very soft, so loved it! The sabji is a little on the sweet side. The kofta were pretty huge, soft and full of veggies. Again, the kofta filling I had here was different from other places, but it was quite nice. The quantity was lesser than we expected though. Mango lassi- oddly, the mango lassi had a very prominent taste of peanuts in it, so didn't enjoy it as much. Himalaya Kosheli is in an unassuming plaza on Spicewood, near Asia Cafe, which (by the way) is a great place to get Chinese food in Austin. I came here with two friends around 8:30pm and they were pretty busy. Though it did seem like they may not have had enough people in the kitchen. We had to wait 10-15 minutes to get a seat. Lots of things to choose from. We ordered the Jhol momo, himalaya goat curry, chicken pasanda, and the coco shrimp curry. I think most of us agreed that the coco shrimp curry was the best! There was a little bit of heat to it, but considering how shrimp is pretty pricey when eating out, $14 is a decent price! The goat curry was a little disappointing because there were SO many bones in it, you had to nibble & suck to get at the meat, and watch out for any bone splinters. In my opinion, it's not worth the effort. The chicken pasanda was pretty good as well. So the server said the jhol momo were soup dumplings, so me and one friend thought it would be like xiao long bao. Actually it's more accurate to call it 'dumpling soup'. It's a soup with several dumplings in it. Despite the misaccuracy, the taste was still superb. The red onion and spices in it gave it a tangyness to it so you could really enjoy it spoon after spoon. While service was a little slow that day, the server did let us know they were a little behind, also was able to bring out extra rice rather quickly when we needed it. We ordered delivery from this little gem for the first time last night, and, not only was it delivered lightning fast and piping hot, but it was absolutely delicious! We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Biryani, Samosas, and Garlic Naan, and wow! All of it was truly excellent! The Tikka Masala was creamy, decadent, and utterly crave-worthy! Definitely give it a try, y'all! The Biryani was also delicious, but do be warned that it's bone-in chicken! Luckily, we discovered that quickly, so we were able to safely enjoy it! It was really good! The Samosas were my jam! I've always loved them, and this joint's iteration was super-fantastic! The Garlic Naan was the perfect accompaniment for the Tikka Masala, as well as for dipping in all of the delicious sauces that they send along with the meal! What are three words used to describe Himalaya Kosheli , Alex ( I know there's someone new but ..whatever) Arrived at this location after finding out our frequent Nepalese location still does not offer dine-in. That's fine- but wanted to get out for the evening. A quick "yelp" and found this gem tucked away in a culinary treasure chest of a shopping center. So- it was like 715 pm which in my book is the height of the dinner rush in Austin. We walked in and there was plenty of space. Honest, the inside is not that impressive. I typically don't mind limited aesthetics, that means they out all their $ into the meal. I was right. This menu was slapping! ( where are my stranger things fans at?) so many options Being three of us , I order big. I like take home options and leftovers. Samosa Chicken65 ( for the kid ) Himalayan Curry Veggie momo Lamb biryani Naan Roti Sweet lassi So, this is not a fast dining adventure. This took a few hours. Entrees were staggered , and we were left alone. Frequent bottled water replacement and that was about it. Himayalan Goat curry is a must try. Their taste is too good but the quantity is less compared to other restaurants. I was very hungry and wanted to explore something in Cedar park and this place did not disappoint me. All curries come with rice. So keep in mind if you are ordering too many naans. My husband and I found this spot around 2 years ago and it is hands down our favorite Indian/ Nepalese restaurant we have been to. We have been back to this restaurant more times than any other in Austin- it's the best comfort food we could ask for. The flavors are incredible in everything we have tried. The Masala Chai, chicken tikka masala, chicken momos, garlic naan, gulab jamun, and kheer are among our favorites. It's always great to see Sandeep and Karina when we walk in- they are so kind and always make us feel at home! The music choice in the restaurant always creates a good ambiance as well. This is a nepali restaurant which we wanted to try for a long time but the night we went in their nepali Thali wasn't available. But it's not a problem their other food items are very good too along with nice service. We ordered grilled paneer and Momo's as an appetizer. Momo's were just outstanding.Veggie filling was good and the sauce in which they were served was perfect. Paneer was good too. For entrees, paneer makhani was a little sour but the Malai kofta we liked. Their naan and kucha were hot and freshly served. I would definitely go again once to try out nepali Thali. read more

(Technical Note: I have written NO previous review of HImalaya Kosheli. Some Yelp software error is linking my review of the South Lamar Bombay Bistro to this review. I hated that restaurant. I love this one.) * * * This is the best Nepali restaurant I have found in Austin. * * * Nepali restaurants are often disappointing. Real Nepali food has many dishes that are not at all to Western taste. Westerners like Indian food. Westerners like momo. (Dumplings). So that is what American Nepali restaurants serve. * * * Himalaya Kosheli has other stuff. The in-joke is that Kosheli means surprise in Nepali. Many dishes on the menu are just called Kosheli - surprise surprise. You have no idea what you are getting when you order them other than what the main protein is (or lack of protein if it is vegetarian.) These could be actual dishes from Nepal. The menu makes reference to the region around a dam near the Nepal-Indian border. This could be just wacko creations from the imagination of the cook. Either way, the unique dishes you find on the Himalaya Kosheli menu tend to be excellent. For Yelpers who follow the careers of cooks, Himalaya Kosheli is run by the same cook who does the excellent Indian-Chinese fusion cuisine at Saffron on Far West. Both Saffron and Himalaya Kosheli are first rate establishments. * * * I had the Koshi Barrage Machha and the Kosheli Naan. Love of the life had Vegetable Choila and Tandoori Salmon. Maccha are teeny tiny little anchovies about half an inch long and as thick as a matchstick. These are deep fried and you get maybe 30 of them in an order along with stir-fried vegetables in Nepali spice. I ordered super spicy - so they was a generous allotment of stirfried jalapeno slices in the dish. Even with Nepali spice and jalapenos, the dish was not anywhere near the pain level of what spiciness can be. It was a savory fine unusual dish. Dont ask me what maccha actually taste like. Between the spice mix and the deep fry coating and the teeny tiny nature of the fish themselves, the other ingredients carried the day. If I had to guess, I would put them with Korean anchovies which are dark and salty. But the whole dish tasted pretty good. I would say the maccha contributed to the substantial solidness of the dish while the spices did the taste work. * * * Kosheli naan definitely count as a surprise. This is a sweet dish. A sweet dish I could eat all day and all night. The filling looks like tomatoes. So I was expecting something like a pizza bread. My highly observant wife said the filling was caramelized carrots such as would be used to make the Indian dessert Gawar Halva. My wife is very smart and I think she is right about the carrots. Either way, the naan was the perfect foil for my anchovies and jalapenos. I was a happy guy. * * * My wife's Tandoori salmon was tandoori salmon. Tandoori salmon is nearly always wonderful. Her Nepali vegetables were too spicy for her taste, but she tends to like mild cuisine. * * * Overall, this is a magnificent place. It cements the corner of Spicewood/McNeil and 183 as being the best food corner in the city of Austin. The strip mall at that corner has Asia Cafe Asia Market Chen's Noodles A+A Sichuan and Himalaya Kosheli. These are all institutions of distinction. And they represent only about half of the restaurants in that complex. So if you are looking for good food, And you can't stand the prices of Central Austin ... You know what intersection you should use as the basis of your housing search. You could eat out for dinner every night for months and months and months at that strip mall. You would never need to repeat a dish. And you would never get a bad dish. Maybe I should think of moving there myself ......... read more

I came in the evening, so this is not a buffet review. I tried the chicken pasand and the palak goat (gosht). The chicken pasand was a dud - the chicken was flavorless, despite it being chopped in chunks, and cooked in a nutty curry cream. It needed much more marinating. The palak goat was tasty since goat meat itself has its own flavor and is not flavorless, by comparison. No marination needed, I guess. The sauces are well made here overall - this is where they excel. I would return with the understanding that they do not marinate meats well and, therefore, I should avoid the chicken dishes. Never had Nepali food before but after visiting here, I am a convert. Met up with a couple of former co-workers. This was a convenient area for all of us. Based on the reviews, it was good food and reasonable price. I was the first to arrive followed quickly by the other two. When we walked inside, a gentleman who turned out to be the owner directed us to a table. He brought us all waters. Since we were all having the buffet, got up to get our plates. It started with a soup that we all said we would come back for a bowl after filling our plate but never did. That day it was vegetable soup. Next up was two different rices. Then the good stuff that I will not be able to remember the names of. I should have taken pictures at each stop. The first four were vegetable or bean dishes. The next four were meat dishes. There wasn't a dish I didn't like. Each was different but so good. It was like Indian food but spicier but not in a burn your mouth way. The heat added flavor but the flavor wasn't all heat. Some of what I remember the names of were the Chicken wings. Watch out, these were the hottest. The goat curry was my favorite. Such richness and the goat so tender, Yes it has bones....Deal with it. The last dish I didn't realize but it was dessert or at least a sweet mush. Glad I grabbed some, after the chicken wing I needed the sweet relief. All of this delish food for only $10.99. Ended up here on accident, but let me start off by saying this place has the BEST (plain) naan I have ever had & I look back on it frequently. (Second best is the vegan naan from HEB, maybe my palate is just unrefined.) Menu was really big and diverse, so we had a bit of trouble selecting things. We got a mix of Nepali and Indian dishes, mostly side dishes and appetizers to share. There was some veggie momos, Gobi Manchurian, and some pakoras. They have an AMAZING lunch buffet for only $12. I can't believe how inexpensive it is for such a delicious meal! According to my boyfriend, who is from Nepal, the food here is VERY AUTHENTIC. He says it's the best Nepalese restaurant he's ever been to in the United States (and he has visited quite a few!). When I went at prime dinner time on a Saturday night, the restaurant was nearly empty. I sat down, feeling a bit sorry for the place. I ordered the chicken Manchurian, a traditional Indo-Chinese dish. Very tasty and a nice portion size. Loved the tangy sauce and fried chicken, mixed with bright veggies. They are located in the same shopping center as my karate school I own (Immortal Tiger Kenpo Karate) and get bonus points for being one of the few restaurants open after 9pm (they close at 9:30pm on weekdays) which means when others are closed after I teach, I often end up getting dinner from them instead. read more

This place was amazing pre-pandemic but since reopening it is disappointing. The food is still pretty good but portions are small and somewhat expensive. The goat curry is tasty but my bowl had almost all bones and little meat. We left lunch hungry. The place was pretty empty when we ate but we still had to wait a while to put in our order and then waited 20+ minutes to be served. The environment was always pretty utilitarian but with the buffet tables removed, they have really doubled down. I've recommended this place to many people in the past but, unfortunately, there are better options to choose in this shopping center. read more

So good in fact that we're here for the second time in four days. Every dish we tried was delicious, delightful, unique, and as far as I can tell, authentic. This restaurant is in my neighborhood... If I could rate it six stars I would. Nepali food is akin to Indian food but different. Hard to explain... Just look for "must try" and "Nepali authentic" on the menu and you can't go wrong. If you live north and you like good Asian cuisine with a twist, you've got to try it. Questions? I am so happy to find Himalaya Kosheli. Ethnic foods that are delicious, full of flavor, and affordable. I had the vegetable momo, chili chicken, chicken chowmein and samosa chaat. I like all the dishes but my favorite was their samosa chaat. I will definitely be back for their lunch buffet ($10.99). This will be a great way to try their other menu items. Owner is from Nepal, very friendly and looks like it is a family run business. Excellent service. BIAS ALERT!!! Well this place is not 4 stars but big bias here, good tastes like north Indian dhaba types with few twists. So I took the Saturday buffet which had decent options. Soup was high on salt that was the only thing that was a bit of let down. Aloo tikki, Chicken Chilly Momos and Chow-mein were awesome! Dalmakhni is like dhaba types and I loved it. Veg korma was the best among veggie dishes. Nepali chicken curry was decent and so was tandoori chicken. They got no briyani only white rice. Naan are fluffy than crunchy so it's a personal choice. Desert had gulab jamun, a bit let down stay away. I won't give any restaurant like this more than 3 stars but I made an exception coz of chicken momoz and Chowmein they are like north Indian street food and hence I loved it. read more
