Love love love the samosas! I went there to get beef samosas for my husband because we were waiting for a while for food from another restaurant. They said it takes 7mins to cook but they had veggie samosas on hand. So we ate the veggie samosa even though I typically don't enjoy them. Well, lemme tell you...this was the first place where I actually enjoy veggie samosas. My rating here is for the samosas alone. had dinner here last night... its been around since i can remember..for $13.99 dinner all you can eat price...its not a bad deal. they only have 2 meat dishes, butter chicken and chicken curry. the chicken curry was lame. sauce was watery. all the others were vegetarian like paneer, chick peas, lentils, fresh vegs, usual assortment of yogurt and 3 kinds of chutneys... the butter chicken was my fav dish. the sauce was thick and creamy...chicken chunks were huge. however, the chunks were not grilled and most definitely not simmered long enough with the sauce. some pieces the sauce penetrated the chicken, some pieces no. so when the sauce falls off, the chicken is bland on the inside. even some of the vegs dishes, the sauce was rather weak. lacking in spices and flavour...even the basmati rice tasted old and soggy. the grains were not even white... i should know as ive been to a lot of indian banquet halls, and i have had the privilege to savour brown grandmas or mamas home cooking thru my south asian friends. chai tea was extra $2. it was good. not excellent. i had a brown friend with me and all he ate was butter chicken and rice. he never touched the other dishes. he had chai with me and only had 1 cup..coz he says its good but not same as his mom makes. and ive tried his moms chai. full or robust flavours from hand pounded spices...just the aroma alone with tell you. the one from himalaya lacked the robust flavours and aromatic blending of spices. anyhow, plus side was they served veg samosa ( so so quality) and fresh naan bread ( really good ) table side. service was great. the husband and wife team made sure everyone was attended to. the sweets for dessert were just that. fried and processed sugar. i nibbled on a tiny piece. never was a fan anyways...its just too sweet! no quality. essentially friend or caramelized sugar! would i go back? no. there are many better ones out there! just glad i tried it. cheers! happy eating!! read more

* Average Indian buffet * When passing through Richmond and in a rush, not willing to fight for parking in one of my usual hole-in-the-wall Chinese spots, I ended up just pulling in to the easy to park lot and grabbing a quick bite from their buffet. I've only ever had the samosa here but they've been consistently good. Each samosa will put you back by 80¢ and they are on the smaller side. The filling mainly consists of potatoes and they don't go overboard with the spices but it is quite fragrant and tasty. They're also good cold and reheated as well! After you pay, the person helping you will walk over to the end of a long counter filled with snacks and desserts and grab your order from under a food heater. Not sure how often the food gets cycled through but mine have always been warm. I've definitely had better samosas and I have previously found a hair baked into one of my orders (which account for the lower rating) but it's pretty convenient to swing by for a snack. The hair thing only ever happened once so no need to fear, I'm sure it was a fluke! read more

Good Indian food here! Didn't go for the buffet ($15.95?) as we can't eat that much. Cheaper for me to order a la carte off the menu. I also feel the food is fresher when they make it just for me ;). Had the fish pakora, lamb curry, butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, fish curry, and aloo gobi. Enjoyed everything with naan bread. Nothing too spicy. Finished off with a good Indian coffee. Spacious, good for groups. Lacking atmosphere and decor, but the food is good. Friendly service. Pay by credit card at the counter. read more

When I walked into this restaurant, I was immediately reminded of Caribbean homestyle owned restaurants that we've been to in the past. The kind of place you go to, not because of the decor (or the lack thereof) but because you want to be treated like family. Not only that, but the food is authentic! And for $13.95 for a dinner buffet, you can't go wrong. Not only that, but the buffet includes fresh samosa and roti, which is brought to your table. The service is great and the buffet has lots of different options, from butter chicken to chicken curry. If you prefer upscale restaurants, don't come here. This won't be a 5 star restaurant to you. I drive past this restaurant quite regularly and one day decided to drop in and have lunch. The folks that run the place were very friendly and helpful with the ordering. There was also an array of desserts which looked super sweet and sugary. To keep things simple I ordered the butter chicken lunch special. This was served in a metal tray that included rice, chicken peas, butter chicken curry, naan, pakora and some picked vegetables. I always love this way of sampling a good variety of dishes. I enjoyed every bite of it! I washed it down with an ice cold lassi. Very satisfied with the place and will definitely come back. Prices are very reasonable. read more

I know this place might put you off by the sight of it, but once u get past the boring decor, you'll find that the food is pretty tasty! You can get regular menu or buffet but i think your best bet is the buffet., for only 11 dollars or so u can get a bunch of great tasting indian fast food such as beef and lamb curry, butter chicken, veggie samosa, cauliflower pakora, tandori chicken, etc.. and fresh nann bread on the fly! just don't be expecting gourmet taste. you pretty much get what you pay for, but the food is actually edible and you'll leave happy, unlike some Indian places ive been to which i will not mention...... Curry in a hurry?! My coworkers like to go out for lunch so we came to Himalaya for all-you-can-eat. Great price ($10) considering butter chicken as single dish can be that expensive at restaurants. AND the butter chicken is pretty good.(I was impressed with the large pieces of chicken breast). I also liked the chicken curry which was flavourful and very moist. Otherwise Dave B and Katie F have given great reviews. Its a good option for a quick and savoury lunch for a great price. All you can eat Naan is a bit dangerous though, especially when the server brings it hot and right to your table. I left feeling like a dough-girl, but it was worth it! read more

$10 buffet? What are people complaining about? Food was pretty decent for what you pay for. Someone mentioned reheated curry but I was fortunate enough to be served what appeared to be pretty darned fresh naan and dishes. The butter chicken, authentic Indian fare - lol, had big chunks of chicken breast. The chicken curry had decent quality thighs and legs too. I've had much better naan but at the same time paid a lot more than what they charge here. The owner or manager, and perhaps his wife were really friendly and answered any questions my wife and I asked. The reason I'm giving 4 stars as opposed to 5 stars is because the hired help, a 20-something year old employed waitress was not too kind and a bit curt. She needs a bit of sunshine shoved up her behind. Oh well, can't ask for everything. If you're looking for a fancy meal, don't come here. If you're looking for some Indian comfort food at a decent price, I highly recommend this joint. read more

This is a casual restaurant (nice size with a cafeteria type environment) with the option of ordering off the menu including curries, soups and dosas, a buffet and to-go. They have a large selection of ready-made Indian sweets and samosas to go. Prices are average overall on the menu but a bit higher than other similar to-go places (i.e. veggie samosas here are 75 cents each and meat ones are $1.50 each versus 50 cents/$1.00 in Vancouver's Bahai sweets). The selection is okay and the food is average. Service is quite friendly but slow. We've been to this place before, mostly for the sweets. This time thought of trying the buffet. Now the buffet here might be a good option for lunch but for dinner it was tough to get value out of the stale and bland food. We started with the samosa which was not even warm and or crispy. Chicken was falling off the bone seemed to be from afternoon or the night earlier. The owner even added water to the rice while we were sitting there to keep it moist. Sweets were ok. My SO and I have ordered take out a few times and quite enjoyed it, so decided to try their all you can eat dinner buffet. Amazing! The food is incredible, and as a Vegetarian, I especially enjoyed it because I could eat almost everything they had with the exception of 3 items! (not so easy to find alot of menu choices in the Lower Mainland for Vegetarians in my experience). My spouse is non-veggie and he really enjoyed their meat selections. The restaurant is spotless and the staff very attentive and helpful. We have gone twice and both times the food is always fresh and warm. On both occasions we were served fresh hot Naan bread and Samosa's by the wait staff without even having to ask. The cost was very reasonable about $13 each. I am not a big fan of sweets but they have a huge selection of many different items (several are included in the buffet) that you you can purchase separately from their bakery. I believe that they also offer a lunch buffet but have not tried it. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. read more

Initially, I came here looking to order some food to go. I ordered the palak paneer as take-out/take-away, $8.00 if I remember correctly, and one naan at $1.75. I was told that I could also order items from the all-you-can-eat buffet and pay by weight, at $8.50 per pound. I grabbed some of the mixed vegetables, aloo gobi, and some assorted dessert squares, to go. Unfortunately, my whole order was about $24.00 total after taxes, which seems very expensive for the quantity and quality of the food. The food itself seems about average. It's not bad, but nothing noteworthy. I was also hoping for more spicy/hot flavour than I got. On the bright side, the person who took my orders was very patient, they answered all of my questions, and they even let me sample one of the dishes--I think it was the aloo mutter. I was surprised at the very good food here because the little strip plaza is somewhat less-than-best, optically. Excellent food, great service. This is a cafeteria-type buffet, for only $10. Not too (hot) spicy, which is just the way I like it, to savour the flavour. The owners are personally there, working. Very, very clean Punjabi Indian food. All you can eat. Very bight, and on a busy intersection. I will recommend this place for future meetups for some of the groups that I belong to. read more

I've eaten here a few times, both in the old location and newer location on No 5 in Richmond. Food tastes fine, although it's very similar to what you get at Curry Express and Curry Express is cheaper. For some strange reason, I have always paid over $12 for the the $9.99 buffet. Buffet was $14, which seemed a little steep as it isn't huge, but once I tucked in to my plate it hit the spot. Only 2 meat dishes (both chicken), butter chicken was good. Naan and samosas were brought out fresh by request from the kitchen. Server was pretty attentive. Doesn't include chai, and no paneer dishes. Yogurt curry, daal, and about 3 other veg dishes plus small salad station and sweets. My boyfriend felt sick after, so maybe avoid if you have a slightly more sensitive stomach like him (which should go without saying for any Indian buffet I guess). I felt ok apart from being stuffed to the gills. Dining hall felt more like a cafeteria, but was kept very clean, and we were glad to see people coming in and out so we hoped things would be fresh-ish. read more

Great service and even greater food! The moment my fiancé and I walked in, we were greeted with a warm hello and smiles. The all you can eat buffet was explained to us and we were told to have a great meal. We were also offered fresh samosa's and naan bread without even having to ask! We went for lunch the other day and the restaurant was completely empty. We went to look what they had for buffet and saw two meat dishes, 3 veggie dishes and some dessert for 14 dollar per head, I don't know about you but that is pretty pricey. We decided to order a couple of items from the regular menu. We ordered dal Makhani, butter chicken, chana Choley and fish pakora with some naan. First came the fish pakora it wasn't crunchy at all and seemed the fish appeared to be undercooked or something since the fish had a bright pink color underneath the crust. And it wasn't Salmon it was cod or halibut. Then came the rest of the items and really small dishes we couldn't believe we paid 9 bucks each for these main dishes, the quantity was just ridiculous for the price you pay. Butter chicken was just ok there were about 3 small chunks of chicken floating in the gravy in the already small dish. The dal makhani was pretty good can't complain about that one but again the quantity was really small. Cholay was just regular plain ol cholay nothing fancy shamancy about it, also came in a small dish. The naan came steaming hot but it was no where close to the real authentic naan taste that indian restaurant are so well known for. it looked like a cross between a chapati and a naan wannabe. The waitress was okay she didn't understand anything about customer service though. We asked her questions such as what is your favourite dish or us the particular dish is good, she goes like I wouldn't know I am vegetarian. I mean I respect your eating habits but you could just say something like oh it's popular or I have heard people raving about this dish or something but nope. Neither did she ever smile she had a scowl on her face as if she just didn't want to be there and would rather be doing something else. Avoid this place it used to be good once upon a time like 4 to 5 years ago but since them it has gone down hill. There are plenty of other great places where you can get cheaper food which large quantity like Tandoori Kona or curry express at Richmond centre. read more

Too expensive now. My wife and I used to eat here quite often. They have recently increased their price to $13.95 for the buffet. The quality used to be okay for the price but not with the increase. They have a good selection although sometimes it takes a long time to top up items that are low. Butter chicken is our favourite and apparently for others too because you often have to go fishing for what is left. Overall we will not be back unless they bring the price back down. There are other places just as good and cheaper. At the old price it was good value. read more

Overpriced, and the curry is worse than you'd get at Curry Express in the mall food courts. Butter chicken was strangely sweet, not creamy, and definitely not worth the high price. I'd recommend going to Tandoori Kona in the strip mall just behind for a really good Indian food experience. However, the sweets here are very good! read more
