Himalayan Bite opened within the year where Delhi Diner was. The interior and seating hasn't changed much. The eats have. offerings (Indo-Chinese, Indian, Himalayan): biryani, tandoori, momos, Himalayan soup/salad/bentos, curries, small bites, breads, drinks. Ordered at counter, pd, got food 10ish minutes. Bites: Butter Chicken with rice (14.99) -originally wanted Himalayan food. Menu too big to decipher. Went with butter chicken. -lotsa white fresh fluffy basmatic rice to soak up sauces. -butter chicken made with tandoori chicken mixed in creamy tomato gravy/curry, cumin, yogurt, Indian spices, red chili powder... -probably 2d or 3rd having it. Had plenty of heat which I had to adjust to + drinking some water. -10ish pieces various sizes tender chicken meat. -so fun mixing butter chicken & rice. Everything fresh & yummy. Had to slow down eating to avoid choking & coughing.

I got the Himalayan chicken burrito. It was okay. The chutney/sauce they used was tangy with a mild sweetness which is nice. The chicken was cooked well and the rice was too. I have two main criticisms which is that the burrito is mostly rice and there was a small amount of chicken (for 16 dollars). As I ate more of the burrito I noticed there wasn't any more sauce. Eventually everything tasted the same and it was texturally uninteresting. Perhaps the addition of ingredients with a different texture and/or flavor and more evenly distributed ingredients would improve the enjoyment of the burrito. The staff are pretty nice and the restaurant is not busy and chill. I enjoyed spending my time here and would come back to try something else.

Given that it's next to Cal campus, the dishes and prices are student friendly. My friend and I ordered: -Chicken tikka -Aloo gobhi -Garlic rice -Garlic naan The chicken was good but a little dry. Aloo gobhi was delicious. I think we could've done without the garlic rice tho - buttery but mild in flavor, probably not worth the price. The garlic naan was great - a bit more doughy than average but chewy yumminess. Tho it's a self order and bus your own table, the wait staff was nice and came around to check on us. Given my experience I plan to try their lamb biryani.

The naan was huge and really good! I got the paneer tikka masala which was tasty but I wish I had gotten it spicier. I also accidentally ordered this thinking I got chicken tikka masala, which i probably would've enjoyed more. The workers were friendly and my group of 7 left happy.

Pretty good Indian in really close proximity to Cal campus. I was originally nervous coming here once this spot was rebranded from the previous location but I am happy to say the quality of the food has stayed the same! Himalayan Bite is a reliable spot to get some grub for a quick and tasty meal. The restaurant itself is relatively small, able to comfortable sit maybe 15 people! Service is always great and staff is helpful. You order at your table from your phone via QR code and someone will bring your food in about 10 minutes! I typically go for their chicken korma, aloo saag, and chana. The korma is great! Very rich, creamy curry with good spice. Chicken is very tender and flavorful. All the vegetarian/vegan options I have eaten here have been fantastic too! I love their naan and kulcha, especially the garlic naan and onion kulcha. Very good, not overcooked and great texture. I find myself coming here in between classes or when I am on the run. A reliable place with friendly pricing, check it out!

I went for lunch today, and loved their vegetarian soup, veg curry with paneer, gobi, channa and rice. So delicious and fresh on a clear, chilly afternoon! The server was so nice, and you cannot beat the price!

I ordered Veggie Bento & Chicken Bento. Both were great. Their chicken was tasty. The service was great. It was pretty quiet & there weren't many people.

Himalayan Bite is a new, reliable go-to for us! My god, the KALE CHAAT! An *inspired*dish! I now crave it! The naans are bliss for this carb-addict. I'll be working my way through their many menu offerings but I can't bring myself to not order the kale chaat and a naan. And chai. We came to Himalayan Bite by chance. Noodle Dynasty had just closed for the evening. Wondering where to go as we walked, just a couple doors north was Himalayan Bite. It was rather empty but it was open and we were hungry! (The sign in the window stating that they also serve Jain food was a positive bias for me.) The cherry on too: the guys working there - so welcoming. They make it clear that they want your experience to be a good one.

When I first heard of Great China, I assumed it would be more of a casual neighborhood mom-and-pop…read morespot, but I was definitely wrong. It's actually a popular, higher-end Chinese restaurant in downtown Berkeley, and judging by the number of people waiting to be seated on a weekend only 30 minutes after opening, it clearly does very well. One note: I often see long weekend lines forming even before opening, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation or arriving early. We came here with one thing in mind: Peking duck. It was prepared beautifully, with the exact nostalgic flavor and crispy skin I was hoping for. I also loved the way they presented the thin pancakes--half-folded and slightly overlapping each other--so you didn't have to worry about peeling each layer apart and accidentally ripping them. The dipping sauce and green onions were provided on the side, though I do wish they included thinly sliced cucumber to complete the experience. My husband also ordered the fish, which turned out soft, delicate, and delicious. It was a nice complement to the duck and rounded out the meal really well. My only real critique of Great China is the pricing. You're definitely paying a premium here, but the food does taste authentic and well-executed. Given the limited competition in the area, I can see why it feels justifiable if you live nearby. That said, it may not be as worth the splurge for people who already have easy access to more traditional, old-school Chinese restaurants.

Tonight I was craving good local chinese food and decided to give this place another try. I don't know why. I always felt bad with each previous sad serving. It was terrific! The order was ready on time. The containers were bulging with food when before the servings were getting skimpier and skimpier. The chow fun was not swimming in oil. The cumin lamb was no longer 90% peppers but a generous portion of lamb and a good ratio of peppers. The crispy chicken appetizer was delightful. The dry green beans had a snap. It was such a complete reversal from the last experiences that I'm glad I went back and we will certainly continue to satisfy our Szechuan cravings with this place. I had braced myself expecting in these dire times with many food places closing or gasping with high costs, a less than stellar experience. What a wonderful surprise!

Good spice level and lots of hot chili oil. The dish we always get when we go - D08 Glutinous Rice Ball. It covers almost all the tastes and textures (sweet, salty, spicy, fried exterior, gooey/chewy, with a liquidy filling). Only a mad genius could have come up with this dish and it works brilliantly. The rest of our dishes vary a bit each time we go, but it's usually some spicy dishes and at least a veggie dish. Really haven't had complaints on the food. A few watchouts - the parking lot next to the restaurant is not theirs. Street parking only. They also charge a nominal fee for takeout containers ($0.25/box) and a bag ($0.10/

Cool to see a restaurant stick around for that long. We got to the restaurant right when it opened for lunch at 11:30 on Sunday. Free street parking on Sunday! I thought everything was solid top to bottom, but here is my ranking in descending order: Braised Eggplant Tofu Clay Pot - I generally like this dish everywhere and they have a good version on this here - seasoned well, tender eggplant, and nice texture on the tofu Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - non-traditional "salt & pepper" - thick coating of tempura-like batter, very peppery (black pepper), and wings set on a bed of sauteed onions. Sesame Bread with Green Onion - tasty, but unlike other "da bing" I've had. This was on the thin side, meaning you have a lot more crispy outside compared fluffy inside. This was also lighter on the green onion. Classic Shrimp & Chive Dumpling - can't go wrong with dumplings - an order comes with 12 dumplings, each filled with big pieces of shrimp. I liked the texture but it is a little different - looser filling instead of a solid meat/veg ball on the inside. Original Braised Pork Noodle Soup - I liked the flavor of the soup and noodles. There was a ton of meat (diced) but they were on the tough side.

The rib was definitely the most impressive part of the dish. The daikon balanced out the richness of the meat really well, and overall, I'd say this was a very satisfying meal. The beef and tomato lo mein, on the other hand, was probably closer to a 2.5/5. The dish leaned heavily on the tomato flavor, only had a few pieces of meat, and definitely needed additional seasoning, such as soy sauce, white pepper, or something to bring more depth. Growing up in Wisconsin in a small city at the tip of Lake Superior Chinese restaurants were just about the only ethnic food available throughout the country. Exotic as they may seem to have been and widespread Nationally which is partly due to the Chinese building the railroads cross country. Chicago Cafe (Woodland, CA): Founded in 1903, academic research suggests this spot near Sacramento is the oldest continuously operating Chinese restaurant in the U.S. and California. These days I prefer Vietnamese or Thai all day long because the flavors are better and more variety and cleaner with respect to how the dishes are prepared. Well, I stumbled into this spot today and I was rather blown away. Large portions, low prices, excellent variety and top notch service. And a huge portion for only $13.95. I had the vegetable rice, complementary hot sauce and a nice iced cold five dollar Heineken. OK, this is a spot to put on your list. See you there!!! And now here are some interesting factoids: While thousands of Chinese immigrants first came to the U.S. to build the transcontinental railroad in the 1800s, it was the subsequent decades of legal discrimination that forced a marginalized community to turn the restaurant industry into their primary means of survival and citizenship. The "Lo Mein Loophole": In the early 20th century, U.S. courts recognized restaurant ownership as a pathway to obtain merchant visas. This loophole sparked a massive boom in the creation of Chinese restaurants, particularly luxury "chop suey palaces".
