Think I found a new lunch spot near the office! I've driven and walked past this place and have been wanting to try it. I took my co-worker here for a farewell lunch and we both enjoyed out meals very much. We both ended up getting a chicken dish and the flavors were great. The wait staff were attentive and the meal came out in time for us to enjoy our food and not feel rushed to get back to the office. Pretty spacious inside as well. I'll have to come back for another lunch to try more menu items!

This was such a cool surprise! The first thing that hits you is their unique building -- super high ceilings, beautiful layout, and this absolutely gorgeous chandelier right in the middle that gives the whole place a warm, inviting vibe. The decor is on point: cozy, colorful, and full of character. Service was great too -- friendly, quick, and helpful without being over the top. Now the real star: the food. I tried the chilly chicken, chicken sakua, and their chowmein (yes -- chowmein, not the lomein you find everywhere else). The flavors instantly took me back to the street chowmein I used to have in Kolkata... that perfect mix of smoky, saucy, and nostalgic. But the highlight of the day? The momos. Both the chicken fried chilli momo and the steamed momo were fantastic -- juicy, flavorful, and honestly some of the best I've had in the US. And the portions? Huge! You definitely get your money's worth. Overall, Himalayan Doko is a must-visit if you're in DC and craving solid Nepali/Tibetan flavors with a great atmosphere to match. Highly recommended!

Great food service and locale Location was clean and nice with valuted ceiling and chandelier The service was very quick. I sat immediately with no reservations and the food seemed to come within just a few minutes after ordering My rye whiskey cocktail with pineapple juice was tasty. The chicken vindaloo was excellent with tender white chicken chunks. It had a fair amount of spice that i'm sure will be even spicer, tomorrow, if I have leftovers. The garlic naan they're plenty of fresh garlic on it for a nice bite. Overall a great experience I look forward to repeating next time in town.

Incredible Nepalese / Indian restaurant located in the heart of downtown DC. I visited this delightful little restaurant for a Friday dinner and was thoroughly impressed -- the food was fantastic, the service was friendly and efficient, and the space was lovely. The restaurant is divided into two spaces; there's a small waiting area immediately by the door, then a couple of steps that take you to the host stand and main dining area. The main area is quite cozy, with rows of comfy booths and standard tables arranged below a gorgeous pair of chandeliers. Each booth is adorned with a miniature blue and white glass lamp, which adds to the cozy, intimate, and slightly fancy vibes. My friend and I split the fish thali meal and vegetarian jhol momos. Both dishes were super flavorful and expertly prepared. The thali meal came with several small dishes around a bed of rice, including a fish curry, lentils, cauliflower curry; spinach, and single gulab jamun. Every item was delicious, and it was a great way to sample a wide variety of items. I was a bit surprised that nothing was spicy, but everything had a deep, rich, and complex flavor. Each dish was super unique, but they complemented each other well. Most of the items are standard across all of Himalayan Doko's thalis, but you can choose between fish, chicken, beef, or a vegetarian item for your main protein. The jhol momos were also fantastic; the dumplings were quite large and packed with veggies. The wrapper was thin and had a slight snap, and the soup was nice and very comforting on this cold winter evening. All around a great spot for a casual, comforting meal. Can't wait to come back and try out more of their menu!

Himalayan doko is a casual spot in DC. I went for lunch and tried the following: mango lassi (5/5; traditional and great.) Samosa chat (4/5; very good but I've had better. A bit soggy/watery.) garlic naan (4/5; you can't really go wrong w naan), Goat curry (3.5/5; I wish this dish packed more of a flavor punch. It was visibly a bit watery and tasted as such. The flavor was pretty good overall and the goat meat was very tender.) Service was decent, I was seated quickly and the food came quick but I've definitely had better Himalayan/indian/nepalese food.

I had walked by the place before, but I underestimated how nice it would be inside. It was well attended for dine-in, and I rather wished I hadn't gotten takeout. The menu is Nepali and reasonably extensive. Characteristically, their spice levels do not mess around. I got the classic dumplings of the region sauteed in chili sauce, and that was a meal on its own. Nonetheless, I also got the daal, which was hearty and had curry leaves sauteed in among other spices. Again, I ordered it hot and it was. The soup I got was potato based, similar to curries that I've had at other Nepali restaurants, and a mint paratha was enough to mop up various leftover sauce. It was a resplendent meal, and the location and setting are well worth seeking out.

Himalayan Doko is a quaint Nepali restaurant in downtown DC offering quintessential Indo-Nepalese dishes. We got the Samosa Chaat - a delicious mix of chutneys, yoghurt, and broken samosa. The flavors were bold and tasty, but a bit on the watery side. It seemed the ingredients were not the freshest. We also got the Chicken Momos with chilli sauce. The momos were well-steamed, but lacked flavor. The sauce made up for it, but, like the chaat, was a bit watery. I hope they are able to fix this issue with the food being on the dull side. The service was a bit on the slow side - I assume this restaurant gets lots of delivery orders to fill. However, the staff was very kind and accommodating. Great spot to check out if you are craving Himalayan cuisine!

Lamb Curry white rice and bread basket

Food was delicious and had a Nepalese influence to it. The lamb was hot, tender and flavorful. The naan bread was fresh and soft. The service was sub par as the waiter when he attended us and was also overwhelmed and was the only waiter working. The environment wasn't bad, there was plenty of people eating in the restaurant.

I ordered a lamb biryani and was so excited to try it, but it was pretty bland and the meat was dry and not juicy at all. The only way I could eat it was if it was covered in one of the gravies they offer. I tried one of the gravies that my friend ordered and that tasted better for sure. The naan's were also huge and arrived hanging on a wooden board so that was definitely unique and special. The naan was the highlight of my experience here. Overall, I would not recommend the biryani but the lamb gravies seem to be more flavorful with the naan.

That is really cool--and great for people who don't drink much, like me! There's also a quite large menu of mocktails, which look very intriguing, but tonight I opted for a lassi drink because I needed to get some nutrients in after a very sweaty hot yoga workout... I tried the following: - Mango lassi - thick, sweet, and very refreshing after a sweaty workout! It was my first time to try a lassi, and I thought it was great. The texture was very thick and creamy and smooth, and you can definitely taste the mango. - Veggie samosa - texture was perfect, very crispy. The sauces were outstanding and very flavorful. Possibly the best veggie samosas I've had! - Butter chicken - not the best butter chicken I've had but still a solid dish. The sauce seemed to be less creamy and less sweet than other places, yet a bit more flavorful. My partner was a bit disappointed in this dish, but I still thought it was good (I'm more about flavors, while my partner is more about creaminess). I did find the chicken meat to be a tad dry though. - Lamb & spinach - lamb meat was excellent and very tender. While the butter chicken (see above) might've been a bit dry, this lamb was cooked perfectly. And it was packed with tonsssss of flavors. - Garlic naan - texture was not as thick/soft as I would've liked, but the flavor was veryyyy garlicky, which I liked. Heads-up: It takes a while for the food to get ready. The place seems to make everything from scratch. So, order some appetizers if you're hungry while you wait for the main dishes!

We also got the lacha paratha to go with it. The mix grill was nice to taste a bit of everything. The salmon was a bit undercooked in some areas but very tasty. The tandoori chicken was dry. The lamb was absolutely delicious and i could have eaten a whole platter of just that. The green masala has such warm spices and it was perfectly spicy. It went sooo well with the paratha. The paratha was flaky and buttery. The mushroom was so unexpected. I loved it so much. It was tangy and spicy. Perfect also. Overall, I'll be back for the mains, for the grill, i would definitely recommend the lamb but not others. This was our anniversary dinner, so bhaskar surprised us with a small ice cream and gulab jamun. Sooo sweet to recognize this. He is the best.

The restaurant was only about half full, with many empty tables available, so this was surprising and did not make me feel particularly welcome. Throughout my visit, many staff members were speaking loudly to each other in Spanish, making it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere or even hear the background music. My server, however, was courteous and provided good service. As for the food, the ground beef in the Soltani was very good, but the Barg was slightly burnt and chewy. Since the meal took some time to arrive, I felt rushed to finish eating before the stated 6:15 PM deadline. For a restaurant where customers are paying premium prices, being pressured to eat quickly is not an experience I would expect or appreciate. I hope this location can improve its customer experience, as I have had much better visits at other locations.

In fact, I think these were worst than the impossible meat momos. Didn't seem like there was any flavor and just veggies mushed together with salt and pepper. Raita 3/5 - way too liquidy for my liking. I thought they would at least provide rice, but no. So it was just basically liquid yogurt with a couple of strips of cucumbers and carrots. Paneer chili 0/5 - the container literally said 'paneer chili' and after 2/3 bites, I asked my friend if this was actually paneer because it was kind of chewy? Of course it wasn't and it was chicken!! I'm vegetarian so I was so disappointed that they put the wrong item in our order, especially since the container explicitly said paneer.
