    Lunch. Pakistani food. Delicious.
    Mike R.

So I've eaten a version of this dish done by many different cultures. A rice pilaf and a lamb shank. This one is Pakistani. I've had it Greek, Turkish, Indian, Balkan, American, and even done it myself at home. This one is among the best if not the best. It certainly is the most ample. There were two meals on this plate. I ate half and took the other half to go. This establishment calls in "Mandi Lamb" @ $28 per. Some of the rest naan bread I ever had too. Fresh baked, super buttery 'n soft. Served on some sort of coat hanger device which looked super weird but it was effective for presentation. The price was fabulous too. Went to lunch with my colleague and he and I had the same dish plus a dish of chickpeas and a couple of Cokes. Pakistani food reminds you of Indian perhaps because of the geographical and cultural connection between the two countries - they're reminiscent of one another. Did I say this food is really, really good? $72 for this entire meal. We had almost an identical dish at a fancy Turkish restaurant that was triple that price - Not nearly as filling or well flavored. Downside is they don't sell liquor. :/ The interiors are Spartan, but the place is larger than it looks from the outside. Definitely an undercover gem. They have a nice buffet or you can dine a la carte. Our server let me taste some really flavorful noodles that they had... And a couple of pieces of curry chicken. Breast meat and still juicy like dark meat. The noodles were a fettuccine noodle covered in a super well flavored sauce. I think it was called "Pakistani noodles". Scrumptious. Parking is DC downtown atrocious although I found a park a block away. Service was efficient and personable. Get here if you can.

The lamb was awful. Ordered lamb kabobs and instead was delivered lamb curry. It was dry, extra extra gamey. I love lamb, order it, cook it myself, this was either frozen too long, or left out too long. I will never comeback here. The chicken Schwarma was just ok. Even the chaat papdi, you can tell it's just uncooked canned chickpeas. My Pakistani fiancée grew up poor, and would never leave food on her plate if it was safe to eat. This was unfinishable.

We were so glad to discover Namak Mandi during our trip to Washington, DC. It was so good that we went back a second time before our vacation ended. Located right next to the Capital Hilton, it was incredibly convenient and quickly became one of our favorite meals in the city. The food was authentic and full of bold, traditional flavors. The chicken karahi was perfectly spiced and tender. The chapli kabob had great texture and seasoning, the Kabuli pulao was well-balanced with tender meat and a touch of sweetness, and the lamb biryani was rich and flavorful. The restaurant was also very clean and spacious, which made for a comfortable dining experience. They have a large dining area, but it was pretty empty both times we visited. I hope they start getting more customers because the food really deserves more attention. It can be hard to find good Pakistani restaurants, especially ones that truly get the flavors right, so we were genuinely impressed. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in DC and will recommend it to anyone looking for authentic South Asian cuisine.

The chicken kabob and the naan were delicious and the portions were huge! The staff were friendly. Reasonable prices. The dishes and silverware were clean and the space seems well-maintained. I'll defiantly go back and bring friends.

That is really cool--and great for people who don't drink much, like me! There's also a quite large menu of mocktails, which look very intriguing, but tonight I opted for a lassi drink because I needed to get some nutrients in after a very sweaty hot yoga workout... I tried the following: - Mango lassi - thick, sweet, and very refreshing after a sweaty workout! It was my first time to try a lassi, and I thought it was great. The texture was very thick and creamy and smooth, and you can definitely taste the mango. - Veggie samosa - texture was perfect, very crispy. The sauces were outstanding and very flavorful. Possibly the best veggie samosas I've had! - Butter chicken - not the best butter chicken I've had but still a solid dish. The sauce seemed to be less creamy and less sweet than other places, yet a bit more flavorful. My partner was a bit disappointed in this dish, but I still thought it was good (I'm more about flavors, while my partner is more about creaminess). I did find the chicken meat to be a tad dry though. - Lamb & spinach - lamb meat was excellent and very tender. While the butter chicken (see above) might've been a bit dry, this lamb was cooked perfectly. And it was packed with tonsssss of flavors. - Garlic naan - texture was not as thick/soft as I would've liked, but the flavor was veryyyy garlicky, which I liked. Heads-up: It takes a while for the food to get ready. The place seems to make everything from scratch. So, order some appetizers if you're hungry while you wait for the main dishes!

Recommend starting with the Ragda Pattice and your main dish butter or tandori chicken. If they are serving scallops, order it! Whatever main dish you order, you have to order one of their house made chutneys. We really enjoyed the mango chutney. Also, don't forget the naan! We like plain or garlic. The place is quite dark with that moody ambiance. It's also loud. Our server bhaskar was very attentive and a total sweetheart. I heard him ask a delivery driver if he wanted water or anything before he got his delivery order. Since we got the mixed grill, he recommended a new dish to us, chicken green masala. We also got the lacha paratha to go with it. The mix grill was nice to taste a bit of everything. The salmon was a bit undercooked in some areas but very tasty. The tandoori chicken was dry. The lamb was absolutely delicious and i could have eaten a whole platter of just that. The green masala has such warm spices and it was perfectly spicy. It went sooo well with the paratha. The paratha was flaky and buttery. The mushroom was so unexpected. I loved it so much. It was tangy and spicy. Perfect also. Overall, I'll be back for the mains, for the grill, i would definitely recommend the lamb but not others. This was our anniversary dinner, so bhaskar surprised us with a small ice cream and gulab jamun. Sooo sweet to recognize this. He is the best.

The restaurant was only about half full, with many empty tables available, so this was surprising and did not make me feel particularly welcome. Throughout my visit, many staff members were speaking loudly to each other in Spanish, making it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere or even hear the background music. My server, however, was courteous and provided good service. As for the food, the ground beef in the Soltani was very good, but the Barg was slightly burnt and chewy. Since the meal took some time to arrive, I felt rushed to finish eating before the stated 6:15 PM deadline. For a restaurant where customers are paying premium prices, being pressured to eat quickly is not an experience I would expect or appreciate. I hope this location can improve its customer experience, as I have had much better visits at other locations.
