The authentic Nepali cuisine found on El Camino. The Himalayan Kitchen and Everest Momo are my to go places for Nepali cuisine. I have tried their Himalayan special goat/lamb biryani before as Ala Carte and was surprised to see the taste was not compromised when it was in Buffet too. We went for the buffet on a Friday at a very peak hour. The lady at the counter was very kind and courteous and kept her calm throughout as innumerable number of people approached her every minute to ask how much more do we have to wait. We did not want to stand outside as I thought I might miss if they call out my name. But the guy who seemed as the owner took absolute care to seat people on first come first serve basis by calling their names out several times. It was very well managed in this chaos and I appreciate that. They treat each client with respect, seat them and make sure table is cleared out and fresh napkins and plates are laid out before we sit down. The helpers are super attentive and always on their toes to clear off the used dishes from our table. People should also be considerate of others time, if you have received your cheque and paid , then just leave the table and carry on with your non stop gossip outside, but you can't change the world. Feel bad for the resturant whose hands are tied out of courtesy and cannot say anything to such people. read more

I saw this place on Yelp and decided to try it since I've never had Himalayan food before and it got a lot of good reviews. From what I ordered I thought it was a cross between Indian and Chinese food. I ordered the veggie and chicken momos (really similar to Chinese dumplings), chicken chili, and Himalayan lamb (similar to Indian food). Been wanting to try this place out for quite some time... I think most yelpers mentioned that there has been a recent change in ownership. The place also looks recently updated with clean bathrooms. Came here on a Monday night at 8:30pm so I did not expect the place to be too packed. There were, however, still quite a few tables when we walked in. Service was pretty good and everyone was quite hardworking. We tried the Nepali momos (dumplings) and found it quite similar to Chinese dumplings. However, the little spicy sauce does make it quite different and yummy from the Chinese version. The garlic naan was so so... the bread didn't 'rise' nicely and tasted a little bit 'doughy'. However, it does have nice 'garlicy' taste. We also ordered the goat curry which was very flavorful with lots of spices. The sauce went very well with the Vegetable Briyani that we later ordered since we could not resist how almost every other table ordered some version of briyani. Just tried the lunch buffet here today. More than 90% of it is just Indian food, really...I think there was one dish in the buffet labeled as "Nepali". It was all very good...One of the better Butter Chickens in the South Bay, Good Sheesh Kebab (very moist and tasty), Tandoori Chicken (good smokey flavor), Dahl Curry (nice and garlicky), and the Naan brought to the table was light and fresh (although it took a while to get delivered). Weekday $9.99, Weekend $10,99. Really enjoyed it, especially now that Peacock Indian Restaurant stopped serving weekday buffets. We'll be back. read more

This place goes against my rule of avoiding places that serve both north and South Indian. This place is pan south Asian. This is my go to restaurant for Indian/Nepalese cuisine and I love it. I crave their spicy vegetarian momos ALL the time and if I could, I would treat myself here more often. My favorites would be the vegetable biriyani, momos, paneer butter masala, and their mango lassi ( still have many items to try.) The prices here are great, but more importantly I find the flavors and spices to be authentic and flavorful. To top it off the free chai tea is amazing and different, this is the first chai tea I have tasted that is brewed with cardamom. My boyfriend is Nepalese so it was nice to find a place which caters to both tastes. read more

The most mismanaged place I've seen in recent times. - No one to ask for getting a table. Maybe after few minutes you'll figure out the queue you were standing was for paying the bill. Maybe after few more minutes and staring at wait staff they'll ask you if you need anything. - You won't be sure if you have to pay at the table or the counter. Maybe after few minutes of waiting you'll ask the wait staff. - Food items arrive serially. So does the cutlery. You can keep staring alternatively at the other person eating. - Food and dirt on floor and carpets. But hey the food is decent. read more

If I come back it's for the momos and that's about it. The dumplings do not compare to the xiaolongbao you might find a top dumpling houses, but I think they are good. The other food is simply ok. The food is different than typical Indian food given it's Himalayan food but you will find it similar to Indo-Chinese food. Items like saag paneer and tikka masala are different that what one might expect. I prefer the traditional Indian/Paki dishes over the Himalayan dishes. I also don't think the Himalayan food is that different to make some big fuss about it. It's different but we all have our preferences. Service here is done with a smile. This is a very popular local restaurant that my wife and I have tried several times. We've never eaten in, so all of our experience comes from take-out orders. We have been pretty consistent with our ordering and have stuck to what we liked best: The chicken Tikka Masala and the Gobi Chicken Chettinadu. We would usually get naan to go with it. Hands down the Masala is the best thing we've tried. They tend to use white meat chicken, which we like, and the sauce is very creamy, mild, and perfectly-seasoned to the point that you may well find yourself sopping up any and all remains with rice, naan, or whatever is at hand. I found the Chettinadu to be delicious, but it may be an acquired taste for some due to the level of spice. I'm used to having to add spice to my food to meet my preferred heat level, so I was taken aback when I took my first bite and found that I didn't need to add anything. This dish uses dark meat chicken, which I don't like as much as white meat because of the higher fat content, but I know that sometimes dark meat lends more flavor to dishes. There is quite a variety of naan to choose from. My first time ordering I made the mistake of getting the Chettinadu along with Fire naan. Both of these turned out to be very hot, and though I did finish my meal, it wasn't an entirely pleasant experience as there was nothing to stem the heat. If you order something spicy, I would definitely recommend making sure that there is another milder dish to balance it out, though this may be obvious to anyone else. Aside from this, the naan are well-cooked and a wonderful accompaniment to the main dishes. As stated earlier, all of my experience comes from take-out orders. As such, my only star off is due to the limited and hectic space they have for waiting. This place does what looks to be a large and well-earned amount of business, but if you're trying to pick up at peak hours, when the small handful of waiting chairs are taken up, you may find yourself standing awkwardly close to the tables while having to constantly sidestep the shifting, buzzing hive of bussers, runners, and other waiting patrons congregated near the main kiosk. During this time, to-go orders pop out at seemingly-random intervals and are assembled next to the kiosk as you and your fellow take-out'ers crane, jostle, and ask the harried receptionist for the millionth time if that order is yours. It would be nice if there was more space so that people could wait comfortably, and the staff had a screened-off area to assemble orders out of view of the patrons. We've been repeat customers and the food is definitely worth it! read more

Was in the area and Himilayan food off a yelp search caught our eye. Decided to check it out since we were curious. As mentioned- in a random strip mall with lots of parking. Simple and clean inside. Service is shy and friendly though a bit slow. Food is basically a mix between Indian and Chinese flavors- I got the Chicken Chilly which was like chinese sweet and sour pork. Friend got the lamb curry which tasted to me like typical Indian lamb curry. Prices are regular- you do need to pay for the rice/bread that comes with it. Positive.... 1) Parking is ok, no problem getting a spot with capacity to support more table occupancy in the restaurant. 2) Floor and tables clean. I personally liked the Gobi Manchurian dish. Food is not spicy hot, but is HIGHLY seasoned. We had the equivalent of pot stickers, goat curry, lamb curry, egg Masala and a variety of breads. With the exception of one tamarind dish, all was flavorful, fresh and distinctive in taste. The food arrived promptly after ordered and was hot (oven hot that is) 6 enu was quite comprehensive and offered a lot of choices Negative.... 1) A bit pricey considering that the food is really mostly vegetarian oriented without substantial amounts of meat. The breads were delicous but not as expensive to produce as the pricing would suggest. A specific pricing issue is their Sebatan(Himalayan Lemonade). We were charged $2.00 for a glass of cold lemonade that had mint added. 2) Himalayan food engenders images of the roof of the world, and North of India. Instead its really Tamil hybrid food from Southern India. Not being an expert in Indian food, perhaps the served dishes were a blend of food, spices, taste, texture from the Himalaya region. Or as my son suggested.... an owner from the Himalayas opened a Southern India cuisine restaurant with Himalayan influence. 3) UPDATE. All members of our group that ate there are on our third gallon of water. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I think not. There APPEARS to be something the cooking, ingredients, or preparation that is causing MAJOR thirst for everyone of us that ate there. Summary: There are three types of people who would enjoy this place: 1) ethnically Indian 2) people who enjoy food that is heavily seasoned and mildly chili hot 3) Foodie's who are at least somewhat sophisticated, experienced and adventuresome/open minded to different types of food. read more

I went here to get the taste of those Indian styled momos and was highly disappointed. I didn't like the veggie momos at all, the skins were too thick and the stuffing wasn't good either. My husband liked the chicken momos he had here on his first visit. Two stars just for that and prompt service. However, it was so prompt it made me think were they just frozen and reheated? We were served veggie and chicken momos within 5 minutes of placing order, they could have steamed for longer, if they did in the first place. I like my momo meat to be chunky n flavorful n this was not. 2) chicken tikka masala- best dish. We asked for spicy n it was spicy with those thai chillies. Food is good(food alone should get 3.5 stars) and the restaurant is busy. However, my issue is cleanness. Yesterday(8/10/18) we 6 of us went at 12:10 PM. (1) Floor, some parts of the floor have carpet and other parts do not. The places without carpet you can feel that floor slippery probably not cleaned for months. (2) We were seating next to a wall and there I was a chicken bone with some other food on the floor -- bone looked dry - means it was there for some time. Went in for Saturday lunch and tried the buffet. To be honest, it's a great spread for the price you pay. The buffet consists of both South and North Indian cuisine and very tasty at that. If you have a sweet tooth like me, you'll love the dessert selection, specially the Rava Laddoo and Shahi Tukda...and the biggest Gulab Jamun I've ever seen. Seriously. We went there after the renovation. Definitely more space. As usual, they were super busy with a steady stream of online orders, take out and eat ins. They seemed unprepared. Wait staff made matters worse by running around in a disorderly fashion. They changed their menu, less Nepali and more andhra style. We had our usual fare, momos, briyani and fried rice. Didn't try their idli dosa. Would love reviews about those. Feels strange to focus such diverse cuisine (at least in the Bay Area). read more
