Welcoming atmosphere, a great balance between someplace extra special and a comfortable, homey place. Service was exceptional. I arrived thirsty; after the first two glasses of water disappeared in short order my waiter brought me my own full carafe. He was also extra kind and responsive. The food was incredible. I'm somewhat adventurous by nature but was having trouble deciding between the (safe) chicken tikka masala and the (edgy, for me) fish tikka masala. With everything else looking snd smelling good, I chose the fish - and am so happy I did. Perfectly cooked salmon chunks in a creamy masala gravy; I wondered if the fish would "fight" with the cream, tomato and onion in the sauce. To the contrary, the flavors "sang" together wonderfully; the seasoning was perfect. The portions were generous without being overly large. There was plenty to take home for tomorrow. Great Food, Nice Ambience, Pleasant Wait Staff Just ate there, and did so this past Christmas Day and New Years Day. Their food is consistently *very good*! I had the Chana Saag, while my H had the Mater Paneer Combo; both are repeats of what we've previously had. So, so, good! Their rice is simply incredible; as good as rice can possibly be! And their naan is very good, too. Sometimes I prepare an Indian Stew/dahl and we'll get rice and naan from the Himalayan to accompany it; which makes makes a very good meal. We were staying nearby in town for two weeks, and found this restaurant after a nice afternoon walk. We love Himalayan food and it was a very intriguing looking place so we went in. It's basically a number of pop-up 10x10 sized rooms around the perimeter of the front yard of an old house, with amazing smelling food wafting through the doors. The food is delicious, absolutely wonderful, the service was fast, and the owner was very friendly. We'll be back in the neighborhood later this summer and I intend to visit at least once more. I popped in for lunch after hearing how good Himalayan was from a friend and I'm glad I did. They had very few patrons but seemed to be doing a fair amount of takeout while I was there. Service was adequate, and the restaurant could use some updating, but the food was great. I started with the samosa. It was crispy, the filling tasty, and the two sauces a lovely complement. I ordered the lamb tikka masala and basmati rice for my entree with a side of garlic naan. The lamb could have been more tender for the cut of meat, but the sauce was great and I found myself heartily dipping my naan into it. With the tip, $40 was pretty pricey for one but the meal could have easily been split between two people. In fact, I took as much home that I had it again the next day. I must also note that they gave a lunch menu for about $20 an entree and it comes with salad, soup, and dessert. Definitely a better value. There was a candy called Good & Plenty, This restaurant could be given that name too! You get good food and plenty of it plus friendly timely service. Mild, medium and hot spice levels let you select the heat you like. Pricewise it is around $20 per meal but you will get your money's worth with leftovers to take home for enjoying later. Just be careful when parking on 101. Passengers getting out on the right side of the vehicle could get run over easily. You don't want to be turned into Soylent Green...LOL! read more

I am so upset with myself for taking so long to come to the Himalayan Restaurant! This place is absolutely incredible! I loved our waitress; she was so sweet and helpful with a dash of fun spunk. I am terrible at picking out what I want so I asked her to pick for me. She chose the butter chicken. Holy moly that chicken is out of this world delicious! Get the garlic cilantro naan! It's the perfect vessel to shove that butter chicken in your mouth. I also ordered the carrot pudding! Do it! Get it! In fact, you should probably get one of everything because you know it's going to be incredible. I can't wait to come back and try more of the yumminess. She hadn't really had much Indian food but I regularly crave it but there's nothing in Florence where we live, and not even in Newport, surprisingly. We read the reviews here on Yelp and I knew we had to go! We were not disappointed! We ordered the Pakora appetizer, which is the best I've ever had. Yummy and crunchy without being greasy. Yummy tamarind and mint sauces perfectly complimented them. We also ordered the garlic cheese naan. OMFG! Soft, hot, buttery, garlicky and stuffed with cheese! You could make a meal out of it! I ordered the butter chicken and it was delightfully flavorful with amazing sauce and tender chunks of chicken. Incredible. Our waiter was awesome, not pushy, ready to answer our questions, and was very personable. He actually followed the chef/owner when he was in Petaluma CA. Coos Bay is blessed to have this restaurant in their grasp! As Guy Fiery would sometimes say regarding special restaurants, the Himalayan is a DESTINATION restaurant. I made a reservation for a large group of people three weeks ago in Florence. They booked two large parties for more than the restaurant can accommodate, and tried to blame me. I am mostly a Coach House, meat and potatoes type guy. My wife however is more into exotic types of food so I go along. She's always wanted to try this place and since it is close to the Egyptian Theater, we thought we'd give it a try. It began with a phone call to see if we needed a Friday night reservation. The man that answered was jovial and gave me a good feeling. We were seated right away and brought water and a menu. We were never rushed or pestered to order. I went with a lamb combination which comes with soup, salad, white or brown rice, lamb chunks in sauce and rice pudding. The choice of medium heat was just right and any hotter would not have been welcomed. I am a big eater and my meal tasted very good and filled me up. My wife ordered mild vegan Tofu Saag which was very mild. She really liked the firm tofu and creamy spinach sauce. The plates didn't look huge, but she was filled up too and she eats like a vulture in order to fill her hollow leg. The bill was about 41.00 plus tip and we feel like we got a good deal. My sister and I were looking for excellent food in North Bend/Coos Bay and we found it at the Himalayan. I had the saag paneer and my sister the tandoori ribs, and we added garlic butter naan. The ribs came with onions, green peppers, all sizzling, and everything was simply so delicious. Love the ambiance and just left feeling great. I highly recommend! One thing: We parked in front and that worked. Otherwise you have to park at this motel and we weren't sure if that was okay to do. read more
