Ordered takeout on July 3rd, but when we got there someone else had picked up our order on accident. No problem, these things happen, and the other customer should have paid more attention. They were very accommodating while they rushed a re-do of our order (mango lassi? yes please!) and apologized several times. The food was fantastic - the best Nepalese/Indian we've gotten in the Twin Cities. We got the lamb tikka masala, the saag, garlic naan, and veggie momos. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful, and you could see everything that went into your dish. My curry has a rich flavor and an aroma that I could neither identify or get enough of. The saag was crisp and fresh, no overcooked frozen veggies here. We both ordered our dishes medium-hot and felt they were flavorful but could have used a little more heat. Wow! Looked on Yelp for nearby places and found this gem. Lights out, fantastic. We started with the veggie momos which were wonderful. Then moved to our lunches. Chicken Tikka masala, tofu fried rice, Kathmandu curry, and chicken curry. Tailored to your desired spice level. Owner even showed our girls how to create sounds using the meditation bowl. I come here a lot for the lunch buffet so I can try the different types of food. They change the buffet menu daily so it doesn't get boring. I would recommend this for anybody! read more

Came for an early Valentine's Day dinner with my friend. Seated right away, super friendly and nice staff. We ordered the veggie soup and some spinach tikka tofu type curry. The curry and naan were great, although the portions were a little smaller than I was hoping. The soup was the opposite -- huge amounts that I had to take to go, but I was expecting a lot more. The best Coconut Shrimp Curry I have ever tasted! The atmosphere is casual, at the time we visited the guests were mostly younger and eclectic. The staff is friendly and we were seated immediately. The menu is spot on for variety and authenticity. The serving sizes are large and enough to feed 2 people. We took the food home with us but left the white rice behind since we had ordered Bryiani; the staff seemed genuinely disappointed. read more

My wife and I ate here for the first time the other day and it was great! We had the buffet so we could try as many different foods as possible and every single thing was tasty and unique. The prices are very reasonable, ~$12.00 for the buffet. Employees were friendly and helpful. The ambiance was beautiful and peaceful. Even the restrooms were nice. read more

I'm very reluctant to give fewer than 3 stars because it's always possible that a place had an off night, or I just had a uniquely bad experience with the wait staff. In this case, I did take out, so the wait staff experience was fine. We did not enjoy the food, though. We love Indian food and, to be sure, Himalayan considers itself Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian. But, from the start, with our samosas, to the daal, to the naan, and then to the tandoori chicken, the food just tasted a bit off. The naan was chewy and a bit sweet (even the garlic naan) and the tandoori chicken was rather flavorless. The daal was just okay, again, without a lot of flavor. The food was very reasonably priced, the staff who assisted us were very nice and the place was full on a Friday night, so this experience may be an aberration. Or, perhaps we got the wrong dishes. I probably would have given the food two stars, but am bumping it up a bit since the other elements (staff, prices, etc.) were good. I am noticing now in the reviews that folks highlighted other dishes, so if we try again we'll go for other items. These just happen to be our "go to" items at Indian restaurants. read more

This has been our favorite restaurant for years. The owner is there full-time making sure everything is perfect for his customers. His wife is the full-time cook. The owner always recognizes us when we come in and comes over to talk to us. The food is always wonderful and the price is not too expensive. They started out as a little hole in the wall on Franklin Ave and moved to this location a few years ago and more than doubled in size. Usually when this happens, the quality of the food worsens. But, not this restaurant, it has always been top notch. My wife is from NY and she's very picky with her food, she says the quality of the food is as good as top NYC restaurants. read more

I enjoyed my time at the restaurant. I was there over lunch and decided upon the buffet after looking at what was available. To be fair about an overall rating I would like to return sometime and order off the menu. This review is about the buffet. The buffet was adequate, but not extravagant in terms of selections, including various entrees, vegetables, two kinds of rice and a separate fruit and dessert cart. There were two different forms of bread, one was more of a cracker than naan, but it was good. The buffet was well maintained and fresh trays appeared frequently. I thought the eggplant dish was good as well as a chicken entree. I thought the other bread was quite oily. The restaurant was clean. It was not obvious that one paid up front and that no checks were provided at the table. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. Restrooms are down a long flight of stairs. Overall, good, not bad, but also not outstanding. I would return to check out the menu items. read more

Every meal I've had has been lovely. The lamb momos are delicious, the lunch buffets are tasty (especially the chicken tikka, mmm) and affordable and the keema feels like a hug. The owner is so sweet and personable. He remembers me every time, even though I only come in once every few weeks. This is my favorite place for reliable, tasty Indian food since leaving the East Coast, since it hits the high bar I'm used to. read more

I never made it to their Franklin location, but I recently tried the buffet at their brand new location on Lake. The atmosphere was pretty basic (although I'm sure this will develop with time). The food tasted good but not great. I was expecting something spicy like Indian food, but it was fairly plain. I plan to go back and try their momos and curry from the menu. read more

Any time I have a friend or relative visiting the Twin Cities, I take them here, and everyone ends up raving about how great the food is. The service is rarely what I would call "fast," but given how packed they are all the time, I think this can be forgiven. The food is absolutely fantastic, particularly the goat curry and the chicken tikka masala, which are my wife's and my favorite dishes. Be sure not to skip the Naan--it's delicious and essential for dipping into the excess sauce you get. read more

First timer on Lake Street and of course there was a snafu. Our order wasn't placed and we waited, and waited... one of us went up to check out the situation. They seemed not to know what to do about it, excuses etc After some time they comped our drinks-minimal and gave us some deserts. I had some sort of soup which was salty but my friends liked their food when they got it. They were perfectly charming but I will probably only go at lunchtime for the buffet if I go at all. read more

This place is spectacular. Everything is so fresh and tasty. All the veggies, the meats, everything. The coconut curry is a must. I recommend getting it quite hot, as the coconut milk seems to temper it a bit. Last time I was here there was a slight mix-up with my food; however, before I could even blink, I had the dish that I ordered brought out to me, and my plate was free. They even let me take the mistake home. The manager and all the staff all seem genuinely nice. Just go eat here. read more
