This is my new favorite matcha place in SD!! I ordered the Earl Grey Matcha with foam, and my friend got the hazelnut matcha latte. Hinar is a dessert cafe serving two locations in San Diego. Both locations was a drive, so I never had an opportunity to try their desserts until a friend brought some for a gathering. We had their original Basque and Lotus Biscoff cheesecake, both were decadent, fluffy, and at the right sweetness level. I really liked the Biscoff one, as it had like a caramel-like layer and graham cracker crust that added more texture and flavor to their already amazing cheesecake. i love matcha but it was $7 and it was like four-five sips of matcha covered with ice for a small drink and every slight customization costed money. I think at some point the drink isn't for customers but rather only for profit because when every single upgrade to make a drink taste good adds a lot to the value, it changes the overall product completely, it wasn't bad but a little too pricey for me personally and if it was cheaper I would definitely attend more often because the interior setting is beautiful! read more

Super cute coffee and dessert place. This is the same Hinar that is located in East Village and so glad we don't have to drive too far for yummy desserts. The decor seems middle eastern inspired, very rustic with neutral tones and very aesthetically pleasing. We were promptly greeted upon entering and all the staff were very welcoming. We came in on a Sunday evening, but had slim pickings to the available desserts. However what we ordered was still very delicious. We ordered to share: Raspberry cheesecake- Very thick layer of gram cracker crust which we appreciated. The cheesecake is was very creamy and the raspberry layer was perfectly tart to balance the richness of the cheesecake. Macarons- were delicate and sweet. Definitely worth it. I love Hinar! Honestly one of the best places to get matcha. I love that it's not too sweet, and you can add different syrups as you like. Their cakes are a little on the pricier side, but still divine. The interior is beautifully decorated and when I go it's always bustling. The raspberry cheesecake and chocolate/ hazelnut cakes are my favorite. The black sesame was ok and the strawberry cake was dry. The cakes are a little pricy $12.50 each, but very pretty. New coffee shop in Scripps Ranch, elegant and chic. Please stay that way and don't convert this in 'central library suburban branch' like the Hinar in East Village. I had a very different impression and experience than at that other one. I talked to the very friendly guy behind the counter and he agreed that they are trying to minimize the use of laptops. To laptop campers: Please go to the many amazing, awesome, modern, and fully equipped public libraries. Leave the expensive and posh coffee shop space for customers that want to go on girlies gatherings, go on a first coffee date with a prospect love, or just people who want to just consume their pastelito and cafelito without the noise of your keyboard and the visual pollution of laptops. That said (I am on my own crusade against the laptop camping as well as I am so against people in pajamas on the streets, they should get tickets) I love how nicely everyone I saw today there were dressed, behaved and the beautiful atmosphere. Ambiance is many times even more important than the coffee. I liked their coffee and love that they have plenty of salty-sugar pastries (as I am not fan of their soft patisserie with the flower on top, not my thing). Such a charming coffee shop, even the bathroom is so nice and they have Aesop soap. Some of us pay attention to these details, yes! Next time I will try the basque cheesecake and more things. I got the biscoff cheesecake and it was sooo good. Very creamy and sweet. My friend got their matcha and they have substitutes for oat milk which is perfect. Service is very friendly, there are a lot of staff ready to help answer any questions you might have on their array of desserts and drinks. Once you order at the front, you find a seat. It's on a first come first serve basis so it might be difficult to find a spot on busy days. The interior is beautifully decorated, simple but tasteful. It has an overall calm vibe - no music, just the sounds of people chatting. I will say the AC inside wasn't very strong for a hot 92 degree day in San Diego. What disrupts this is the echo of other patrons, perhaps it is because of the high ceilings but sound travels here. Parking was easy, and although the café was fairly busy when we arrived, we still found a table without a problem. We ordered at the counter. I got the Orange Blossom Coffee Latte, and my husband went with the Matcha Blueberry topped with blueberry foam. We also got a tiramisu to share. Our drinks came out quickly and were absolutely delicious. I especially loved the subtle floral notes in my latte, and the matcha was smooth and well-balanced. Unfortunately, the tiramisu tasted a bit stale, but when we mentioned it to the server, they kindly offered to replace it. We swapped it for a Raspberry Cream Cake, which turned out to be a great choice. The raspberry syrup tasted fresh, and the cake itself was moist, light, and not overly sweet.
