Had a great dinner tonight along with many other mothers and their families . This restaurant was so busy. It took 20 plus minutes of waiting for a table but it was worth it. A waiter took our order very quickly and we were enjoying sushi and Sapporo in know time at all. 2026(16)

I came with one other guest on the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving and they were quite busy! Despite that, we were seated in about 20 minutes. The hot food came out hot and the sushi came out quick! The tempura was standard. Sushi was great, especially for the price. Spam musubi is a must-get - can't find it everywhere and it's delicious! Overall, casual sushi place and popular for a reason. Reasonably priced and good portion sizes.

I absolutely LOVE this place, my daughter and I try to come here at least 1x/week for our dinner date. We love sushi! Hinata Sushi to be exact haha The sushi is always served great and fresh! The staff is absolutely amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable of the food if you're needing assistance. They greet and seat right away! The lighting here seems to be perfect and the music is well diversified. While I sit there I see MANY DoorDash, order going out, but the does not effect the service by no means. Give this place a try, add it to your new favorites and then thank me! Haha

Kamikaze Combo & Protein Rainbow Roll (No Rice)

Came here with my partner for some late-night sushi. It was my first time, though she's been here a few times before. We were seated within five minutes, and our server came by shortly after to grab our drinks and answer any questions, a solid start. To start, we got the Takoyaki. Then we ordered the Kamikaze Roll Combo and the Protein Rainbow Roll. I'll admit, I'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi since I usually stick to my go-to AYCE spot, but this place was definitely valid. The fish tasted fresh, prices were fair, and the spicy garlic chili oil my partner ordered was to die for. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to whenever I'm in the Lemon Grove area.

Literally my favorite sushi restaurant in San Diego! Fish is always fresh and doesn't have any "fishy" taste to it! I would come here everyday if I could. Not only is the food great but so are the prices. 10/10 recommend! The Maki Maki roll is my favorite!

My husband and I have been loyal patrons of Hinata Sushi in Lemon Grove for years, through multiple ownership changes, and I can confidently say it's one of our favorite neighborhood gems! The quality has stayed consistently solid, making it a reliable go-to for à la carte sushi when we're not in the mood for all-you-can-eat. We always order the Submarine Roll (so flavorful and perfectly balanced) and a variety of hand rolls--fresh, generous portions every time. The takoyaki is a must; crispy outside, gooey inside, and packed with octopus goodness. Everything we've tried is on point, from the fish quality to the rice seasoning. Seating is quick depending on the time (we love early evenings or weekdays to avoid any wait), and the service is fast and friendly without feeling rushed. It's an overall great experience with delicious food that keeps us coming back. Highly recommend for sushi lovers in the area!

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED I'm picky when it comes to sushi and it can be a challenge to find that sweet spot of taste and price. Hinata ranks Top 5 in my sushi discography in San Diego, why you say.... Because the don't do to much, which keeps the flavors consistent and is he cost low. And for a fellow resident of Lemon Grove it's these best in The Grove!!! The bonus for me is the Chili oil!! With the crunchy garlic.. put this on any roll to set it off!!! We Love Hinata Sushi!!!

Tempura Udon - with 2 sad pieces of chicken
    Moana C.

Stopped by here bcuz I didnt know what I wanted to eat. Got 2 rolls and a bow of udon. Lemme say that the udon was disappointing, there was chicken in there but when I say it looked sad I couldn't bring myself to take a pic. The rolls were good, I've never had a shrimp tempura roll that round or big trying to figure out if I prefer it that way or not. Really enjoyed the baked Cali roll.

Affordable sushi and ramen compared to other Japanese restaurants. The ambiance is good, cozy comfortable seating. We decided to sit in a booth. I had changed my sushi order and the waiter was very understanding. Plenty of parking here! Thank Goodness! This has ONLY been my 2nd visit here. For this visit, I introduced my boyfriend & his best friend to dine here! They enjoyed their food as much as I had.

The happy hour deal here is great, and the service is really good as well. The actual sushi rolls were just fine in my opinion. They're large, which seems to fit the price, but I had quite a few fishy pieces. (Fishier than I'd like my sushi to taste.) The salmon carpaccio and garlic tofu were very tasty. I'll be back to try the lunch special as well!

    Fried Soft shell crabs

Wow, why has no one shared this hidden gem? I've passed this plaza numerous times and never actually noticed this place. We were a party of 2 and came in just before 530pm. We were seated and ordered with our hungry eyes. We enjoyed two large strawberry sake for the happy hour which got us $2 accompaniments - we chose karrage and spicy tuna roll. We also ordered fried soft shell crab and four rolls. Needless to say, there was plenty of food to take home. The food was delicious and a bargain of a deal. Would recommend if you're in the area.

I am unsure if they are all family but one of the workers daughters was also running around and helping out/interacting with the guests. I'd come back here just based on the positive vibes alone. Besides the service though I ended up ordering a spicy basil with chicken and I did not realize they'd give out the rice in a heart shaped but I thought it was nice touch. The dish overall was solid; good amount of spice, plenty of meat//veggies and a flavorful sauce that complimented it all. One of the workers also came by and just randomly gave me a Thai tea and said it was on the house. The Thai tea itself was good as well, just the right balance of milk, sugar and tea. If I still lived near SDSU I would definitely return here!

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice. Oodles by the Noodbar has such a large and diverse menu so I would highly recommend coming in to try them out.

TL;DR It's really good. Go here…read more -------------- I came here after a friend recommended it when I told them I was coming down to San Diego for a day trip during my spring break from school in Orange County. I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me
