- Way too overpriced - Inconvenient location - Soggy noodles - Overcooked Karaage - Lukewarm Ramen Yeah the best thing here was the Asahi draft beer. Spent $30 per person for soggy, noodles in lukewarm broth. Family was quite upset. We're done here.
Got the house ramen medium, both enjoyed the portion, not too big, not too small. Ambiance was very simple and neat table seating. Service was very quick, you can choose between pay through QR code or look at the physical menus. Perfect for friends and dates alike as well as a work dinner. Parking is nice at the parksj 90minutes FREE!!!
I came here on a Saturday evening and thought the ambiance was nice, but the restaurant itself is pretty small. This being my first time, I was told I could either scan a QR code to order or have a server take my order. I want to say we waited about 15 minutes, and despite there being 4 to 5 employees working, not one checked on us. And they were looking at us. The whole time, we had to get up multiple times just to get someone's attention. That was ridiculous. I ordered the house ramen. The broth was tasty, but everything else was pretty mediocre and lacked lots of flavor. But overall, the service and food didn't live up to the price. I was actually really disappointed. There are so many great ramen spots nearby, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.
Really quick service. This is currently my favorite Ramen in San Jose because I love the bento boxes. They have QR codes, or you can get a physical menu. They also have a pretty expansive drink menu if you want tea, soda, wine, beer, or a cocktail. I also love how they're open super late. They should be open till like midnight or so. They have good customer service, and everyone is pretty polite. That helps you. It's a very good experience. I love that the bento boxes come with three options of mini Ramen, shishito peppers, a spinach salad, and two mini fried spring rolls. They have really good appetizer options. I love the Matcha salt to sprinkle on my edamame and spinach salad in my bento box or to use on my chicken breast on top of the Ramen. I really appreciate the small sides of veggies/vegetarian options you can add to your ramen, since I don't eat pork.
I like this location because it's in a walkable area near SJSU. I tried Hinodeya's other locations in Campbell and SF. The ambiance is very nice for a date night or after work meet up with friends for drinks. Service is meh. They give you the option of a physical menu or the QR code. While I don't mind the self ordering system, service was very lacking. It was hard getting a server to stop just to get extra napkins, utensils, or to-go boxes. The food was good but overall I don't feel this location is as good as the others and I can't justify how the prices for such minimal service and small portions.
I'm so disappointed by everything. This is the second time I've ever been to this restaurant and my partner was SO HUNGRY. So I thought, what would fill your tummy better than a nice bowl of ramen. My partner ordered the Ramen Tonkatsu with the Spice Level: 3 The ramen was LACKING. We even ordered an extra egg and all 3 eggs came out practically hard boiled. This has to be one of the lowest qualities of ramens I've ever had. I ordered sweet chicken on the side, was a little better than the ramen, but a lot of the chicken wasn't even covered in the sweet sauce that a majority of the chicken was doused in. We also got a little Ume soda can, (this was probably the best part of the whole experience here). Very lack luster, very disappointing, and unfortunate for spending around $60.

Food: B Late night hot bowl of ramen, variety of choices to choose from, nice presentation, but the overall broth was missing something and it needed a little bit more oomph. The food was plated meticulously, but that's about the only positive I can mention. Everything else fell short. The dish arrived cold, with ingredients sitting in a mildly warm broth, which made it unappetizing from the start. There was little attention to preparation--mushrooms weren't even sliced, and the kale was overly saturated in oil, making it unpleasant to eat. The tofu, which should have been a highlight, had an off texture, and the broth was too sweet for my taste. Even the noodles were forgettable. Overall, this was the least enjoyable bowl of ramen I've had. I'm genuinely surprised by the high ratings, as everyone at my table shared the same experience. If you're in a rush, this place might work--the food arrives within a couple of minutes of ordering, and there's ample seating with quick service. However, based on my experience, I wouldn't return--rush or no rush.
I came here with some friends after a show. I wasn't too impressed by them and lowkey, I was a bit underwhelmed. I think there are better ramen spots in the area. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen. The katsu was crispy but remember to place it on the dish otherwise it gets soggy. Further, I didn't think it was very rich or flavorful. Perhaps it was an off night?
Good, standard ramen place. Nothing too special, but does a great job when you're craving ramen. The Hinodeya Ramen was pretty good, with a generous amount of toppings. The meat was tender, and the noodles chewy. The broth didn't really have that depth of flavour that you expect from a great ramen place though. However, it was still seasoned nicely. The sukiyaki beef ramen tasted exactly how you would expect. It was good, but sukiyaki beef to me still pairs much better with rice than with noodles.
Love that this spot has multiple vegan options! We chose the creamy ramen and zen ramen and both were so flavorful! Both had the shiitake mushroom dashi broth but the creamy one had soymilk while the other had more of a soy flavor. I had the sukiyaki beef ramen and it was loaded with toppings! The soup wasn't as sukiyaki-like as I thought but perhaps it's just be in the flavor of the beef. For all of our ramens, we substituted the noodles for the spinach noodles and we were impressed with the texture! It was the highlight of each dish. We came on a Sunday evening and it luckily wasn't too busy but service wasn't super attentive. Would come back again to try the other food options though.
Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Felt like having ramen today on a cold Friday night, before the Sharks game. We walked in and were able to get seated right away and serve us drinking water. What we ordered: Clam ramen: 5/5, I added an egg, cooked perfectly. Broth is flavorful too. Decent amount with lots of clams. House ramen: 5/5, my niece loves it. She's usually a picky foodie like me. Karaage chicken: 5/5, very crispy. Save room for dessert, and order the matcha ice cream parfait. Hits the spot! I've drove by this place a few times and always see a long line, so I'm happy we tried it this time and I will be back since it's not far from where I live too.
First off, let me be clear the food here is SOLID. The staff is super friendly and the location is well lit and nicely appointed. I just can't give it the 5 star treatment as I think it's really quite expensive for the portions offered. I ordered the Pork Katsu Bento at an astounding $29. The katsu coating was crisp and the pork cutlet was juicy. It comes with a small ramen, rice, fried spring roll, and edamame beans. But the potion is comically small. The Katsu was roughly 4-5 ounces with a cup of ramen and half a cup of rice. I did like you can choose what type of ramen you want (Hinodeya, Spicy Miso, and creamy). This place is also all about crazy spicy and they have levels from regular to something like, "god of fury" or something. I went with a single level of spice after reading their numerous warnings regarding their spicing practices. If I was to return, I think I'd have a ramen (my wife said her's was excellent) and add some karage for a little more Protein. So, if you're loaded and not starving this is the place. I mean, you can also cruise to the TB next door for a Cheesy beef burrito if the hunger pangs are still hitting.

The ramen shop is located by San Pedro Market Square, so it's a great place to get food before grabbing drinks. This place specializes in ramen and other Japanese tapa dishes. Chicken Karaage (5/5): it was super juicy and flavorful. A really great appetizer to start off. Sukiyaki Ramen (4/5): I think this was a secret menu item? Not sure... it was solid though, but thought the sukiyaki would taste sweeter. Maybe I'll swing by again. read more

Been here twice now and it's been very consistent. The space isn't terribly large but has decent seating and the wait time isn't too bad either. Service is good and fast. Staff is definitely efficient even during a rush. Food was good! Very tasty and satisfying. Shishito peppers and karage were cooked beautifully and the chicken was crunchy just the way I like it! I got their creamy vegan with extra chashu and it honestly might be my go-to next time I go! Its rich and full of flavor I completely forgot it was vegan (minus the chashu obviously haha). My boyfriend got the spicy miso and that was also delicious! Definitely want to try all their different ramen but I'll have to see if my taste for adventure is greater than my love for their vegan ramen c: read more

I have tried another Hinodeya location before and it was not memorable but I recently tried the green gyoza and spicy creamy vegan ramen here and will now be definitely coming back. The green gyoza was so yummy and satisfying. The cook on the dough and veggies was just right and paired with the creamy sesame sauce was perfection. I wish I could eat a whole bowl of these. The spicy creamy vegan ramen smelled very flavorful and looked very appetizing as soon as it came out. I really enjoyed my bowl. I think the main protein was tofu skins, which were so flavorful and soaked up the broth well. The broth was indeed very creamy. Each component of the bowl was fantastic and well thought out. My favorite parts were the tofu skins, the shiitake mushroom, and the nori made for the perfect mouthful. Where I thought there was room for improvement: the broth was little more sweet than what I prefer, and I wish it was spicier! Though I did have the option to increase the spice level for extra. Overall, a very satisfying and yummy meal. Though it was scan to order, which I am not a fan of, the service was also very friendly. I walked out very pleased with the meal and my experience dining in. Will definitely be coming back and looking forward to trying their plentiful vegan options. read more
Came here during my lunch break. The inside is nice and clean. Service was quick. I got the Spicy Miso Butter Corn Ramen. The topping and ramen noodles were good though. Nice texture. But soup base was salty. I drank more water than I anticipated. read more
The spicy miso ramen was very solid. Medium spicy was just the right level of heat for me. I got a side of spicy crispy garlic, which I recommend adding toward the end because the garlic flavor is strong. I really liked the thickness of the noodles. read more

I'm very picky when it comes to ramen (we have so many options around so there is a high bar to meet!) but this place is seriously a good one. I ordered the Hinodeya House Ramen and it was everything I could have asked for. The broth was flavorful while not being too overly heavy, and the chashu pork and egg both were valuable additions to the overall dish (as the proteins, they really did shine in addition to the other fixings). I particularly appreciated the baby spinach that was included in the dish, in addition the other greens in the bowl. Really no complaints at all, and I also appreciated that when I ordered hojicha tea, it came with a whole pot of it! I came during a weekday at lunch and we were seated with no wait. read more
This was our first time at any of the locations. The ramen was good, with the noodles being just right and the pork and egg well cooked and seasoned. I had the spicy miso ramen and my wife had the clam ramen. The service was also very good. The broth, arguably the most critical part of a great ramen, was good, but not among the best we've had. It could be that its salt content was a little lower, which would make it healthier and all, but it seemed to be missing just a bit of that umami that makes you want to drink all the broth even when you know you shouldn't. I've been to Hinodeya on a few occasions and it's always been quite pleasant. Around lunchtime, it isn't too crowded. I've been able to walk-in and get seated immediately. You order through the QR code at the table, and they bring the food to you when it's ready. My favorite is the butter corn ramen. Very comforting on a cold day! Would definitely come back again. read more

My friends and I decided to eat some ramen on a cold, gloomy day. I've been to the Campbell location before and remembered it was good. There is only street parking or a nearby garage next to San Pedro Square. I ordered the Spicy Miso Butter Corn ramen and added spice. I don't remember which level of spice, but I think 3? It costs extra if you want added spice btw. The spice level I got wasn't spicy to me. The ramen was good and flavorful though. It was a pretty good bowl of ramen. I would come back to try their other bowls of ramen. read more

Amazing dashi ramen! Was pleasantly surprised to find out there's a location closer to home. Parking tip: the Market & San Pedro garage has free parking for the first 90 minutes! It's a short walk to the restaurant (within the same block). The menu is QR on the table and you order on your device as well. We didn't get to interact with the staff too much. The restaurant is nice and open inside with plenty of tables. Minimally decorated but still has nice touches of Japanese decor. Would recommend :) We got 3 appetizers to share: edamame, kaarage, and fried oysters. I wish the fried oysters were more flavorful but they're definitely juicy and fresh. Kaarage were good, crispy outside moist inside. Edamame was up to standard as well. We both have had Hinodeya before so I'm glad that this visit/location met our expectations! We both got the House ramen with all the toppings. The dashi broth was wonderfully flavorful and so so great on a cold rainy day. Highly recommend the tabera - chili garlic crisp! It adds very nice texture and flavors to your bites. Not too spicy either, about mild-medium level. read more

After a Yelp event nearby, my buddy and I were feeling a little peckish and decided to try this ramen restaurant. The restaurant is located within the SSN Pedro area so parking is fairly easy. I ordered the house ramen with a side of gyoza. They have a QR code on every table where you select your food items and pay. Service was quick and professional. The restaurant was a little quiet for dinner on a weekday. The ramen was quite good but I have had better. The broth was definitely not tonkatsu and is very much lighter. It definitely has a chicken flavor to it. The egg was a touch over cooked but the pork was very nice. In all honesty I have had better but this place is good in a pinch. read more

The vegan creamy ramen was very wholesome and rejuvenating - Spinach ramen had a very good texture, the sweet tofu was just the right pairing for the creamy but spicy broth. Spice levels can be customized though. Vegan options are limited here, but the dish alone makes it worth a visit. read more
Ramen is my absolute favorite food, and this spot in downtown is a must when you're craving it! I ordered the takoyaki and chicken ramen, and both were soooo delicious. If I'm ever back in San Jose, I would definitely come here again because I really enjoyed the food. The service was very fast, and the atmosphere was very nice as well. My bowl of ramen was OK. I wouldn't call it great, but it's not bad, so it's OK. Spicy Miso Ramen: The broth was rich but it was close to being too salty. Although I got the spicy miso ramen, it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy (think Flaming Hot Cheetos after 10 chips). As for the noodles, they were closer to the soft side and weren't as chewy as I'd like them to be. The serving size was adequate as I left not feeling too full but had room for dessert. (3.5/5) Service: We scanned a QR code to order (party of 6) and the food was out in a time that's reasonable for 6 people. Service was attentive when needed but otherwise they did not come up to us. Ambiance: The space is low-lit and small, so expect noise levels to be high. If you're going with a larger party, the seating can be awkward (we were placed in the middle of the restaurant). Otherwise, seating is along the walls and seems like the ideal party size would be 4 people. I wouldn't go out of my way for this ramen, but I wouldn't be upset to have it again. read more

The ambience was really nice and the service was great! Everyone was super friendly and speedy. The food however was very bland. I got the house ramen which lacked a lot of flavor. The broth was flavorless and the noodles too. My bf got the spicy miso ramen and enjoyed that one more! We also got chicken appetizer 4/10. The tokoyaki was also very sweet 2/10. I came with a group of coworkers on Wednesday for lunch. There were 6 of us in total and we had no issues being seated when we arrived at noon. We walked from our office, but there is either metered street parking or a parking garage nearby with free 90-minute parking. Upon being seated, you scan the QR code at the table and can order/pay individually via the phone. I ordered the Aburi Cheese Spicy Miso Ramen with Level 3 spice ($21.50). I also ordered a sparkling water ($4) - Perrier. Note, you do need to pay for extra spice. I had to pay an extra $1.50 for Level 3 and I liked that level of spice. The bowl comes out piping hot, the noodles are nice and chewy, and the broth is extremely rich and flavorful. I only wish they gave a full egg rather than just half. Service is non-existent except for when they first bring your bowl of ramen. That doesn't bother me as I like to be left alone when eating. The restaurant is clean and fills up quickly during the lunch rush. read more

The best vegan/vegetarian ramen I've had! The Creamy Ramen was so rich in savory flavor. The noodles and unique toppings were cooked to a perfect texture. All the flavors went so well together. Portion size is definitely worth the price, which are your average ramen prices. Friendly service even though we ordered through a QR code. And our food came out fairly quick. It was not busy at all on a Sunday at lunch time. read more

I visited Hinodeya in downtown San Jose with a group of four on a Sunday, and we had a great experience! Parking was convenient since you can park in the downtown street parking garage, and it's free for the first 90 minutes. We didn't have to wait too long to be seated, and ordering was super easy through a QR code system and the food came out pretty quickly. The ramen was delicious! It had a flavorful broth and came in a generous portion size that left me satisfied. I'm so happy that Hinodeya opened in downtown San Jose because good ramen spots here are hard to find, especially without a long wait and at a fair price. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving a solid bowl of ramen in San Jose! read more
Came here for a quick lunch break while working in the area and I loved the efficiency of it. We got seated as a party of 4 immediately and scanned a QR code to order, ordered on there, paid on there, and the food was out within 10 minutes. I know some people don't like the experience of ordering and paying on a phone if they're trying to have a full dining experience but during a work day at lunch time this was perfect for me or anyone who is on a schedule! We were out within 35-40 min of getting there but didn't feel rushed at all. I got the house ramen and it was a generous portion. It was a great bowl of ramen, similar to some of my favorite ramen spots. Highly recommend Hinodeya! read more
