El Platanal is open 24 hours and has daily breakfast and lunch specials until 2 pm. The restaurant has plenty of seating and can accommodate large groups. It's clean and there is plenty of parking in the property. The food was delicious- better than what I ate in Old San Juan! We ordered the ham croquetas, maduros, avocado, the grouper with mojo sauce, and peril al horno. Each dish came arroz con gandules. We had a fresh limade and Bacardi mojito. The portions are huge so this a great place to share and if with a large group to order multiple dishes and have a taste of everything. The lunch specials were $8.99. The taxes though... 10.5%, plus two additional tax charges. The restaurant is open 24 hours so it's a good late night spot!! Definitely coming back. Enjoy!

All were tasty; all but the (super plentiful) plantain chips disappeared quickly. Entree was Alitas (chicken wings), grilled with just a little seasoning, they too were delish. Truth in advertising: when they say 'wing', they mean entire wings, not either drumsticks or flats the way many US chains advertise. Side dish were Amarillos (fried sweet plantains.) Service was good: one waitress took care of our table of fourteen as well as several other nearby tables, repeatedly visiting to get drink orders, clear dishes and generally take good care of us. Ambiance is Latin cafe: loud, friendly. I think four people celebrated birthdays while we were there with loud singing and percussion from the staff and firework-festooned desserts.

It was recommended by one of our tour guides so it is a great option for both locals and tourists. It had a nice atmosphere and very large menu with many different types of options. The Frutti di mare was one of the best pastas I've ever had! It had almost every type of seafood you could want. A great option for someone who wants to try a bit of everything. It was large enough to satisfy you but not too large where you have to take leftovers it back to your hotel. It also came with a salad and delicious bread. My husband ordered the yucafongo pollo, and was very impressed. It was also filling and well made. The drink menu also had a lot of options. I went with the sangria which was super tasty! It's more on the fruity side. Our service was great and we didn't have to wait long for a table or our food, although it seemed busy. Whether you live in the area or are just on vacation, I would recommended trying it out!

The service was a little confusing at first. We were seated and expected to access the menu through a QR code, which wasn't immediately explained to us. We initially expected traditional menus, so there was a bit of uncertainty before we realized how the ordering process worked. We were also seated near one of the air conditioning units, which made some members of our party feel a bit cold during the meal. However, once the food arrived, all of those concerns quickly disappeared. The food was incredible. Rich, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, every dish at the table was delicious. The arroz con pollo was honestly the best I have ever had in my life. It was perfectly seasoned, comforting, and packed with flavor. Every bite felt like authentic Puerto Rican cooking at its best. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and it made for a wonderful birthday dinner for my wife. While the service experience could be a little clearer and some seating areas may be colder than others, the quality of the food more than makes up for those minor issues. I would absolutely return on a future visit to Puerto Rico.

To start, I had a chicken and cheese empanada, and a mango mojito. For the entree I had fried pork chops, with Trifongo (mixture of green plantain, yucca and sweet plantain), rice and beans, and tostones. Since I was staying at a hostel, I ordered enough to have leftovers for the next day. This place became more crowded as the early evening came on. I arrived around 6pm. By the time I left at 7:30, it was packed. There is an open grille at the entrance of the restaurant so you can watch them grilling meats. Relaxed and casual vibes. This is an after the beach, popular restaurant. Food was pretty good. Service was solid, nothing over the top. I would return.

This one in particular was just a gut feeling, and it left my gut very HAPPY! This place was not busy when we arrived but by the time we left it was hopping! The service at first was a little questionable due to my limited spanish, but we found a way to communicate effectively and ended up ordering a bunch of different items and a couple of drinks. The place is an open walled restaurant right off the road and the view is ever changing. There is no doubt this is authentic Puerto Rican fare. We were watching them prepare these items over open flames and open wood fired grills. Overall the service was excellent even with language barriers! All of the food we tried from fresh shrimp, to candied papaya and barbeque chicken from the grill. Everything was delicious. Super fresh and very tasty food that I wish we found on the first day -instead of on the last day! The prices and value are amazing! If you go to San Juan - Go here first! Day or Night - these places are making amazing local food!

The food was incredible. Everything we ordered was flavorful, comforting, and clearly prepared with care. My mother even commented that the arroz y habichuelas reminded her of her grandmother's cooking, which is probably one of the highest compliments a Puerto Rican restaurant can receive. The meal felt authentic, homemade, and deeply satisfying. I ordered the stuffed avocado, and it was absolutely to die for. It was one of the standout dishes of our entire trip. The staff was attentive and worked hard to keep things moving despite how busy the restaurant was. You can immediately tell that this place serves a very high volume of customers, and for good reason. The only thing that may confuse first-time visitors is the seating process. People generally line up in the hallway adjacent to the dining room and wait to be seated. At first, it can feel like organized chaos, but the staff clearly knows how to manage the crowd. Given the popularity of the restaurant and the amount of people coming through the doors, the system works. The quality of the food for the price is outstanding. This is the kind of place you visit when you want authentic Puerto Rican food that tastes like it came straight from someone's family kitchen. If you're visiting San Juan, you owe it to yourself to eat here at least once. Our family loved it, and we would absolutely return on a future trip.
