This is my new favorite place. Seriously. The best! His teriyaki was so freaking yummy, it tasted as if it was made in house. Different from most places. He ate the whole thing. His dinner came with white rice, some veggies and soup or salad. My sushi rolls ... omg I can't even they were so freaking amazing. The Gabe roll was my favorite! Can't remember what was all in them but definitely worth a try. As we were leaving around 730pm it was packed! So probably the earlier you get there the better. The waitress was so very friendly. I forgot what the name of the Gabe roll was called so we asked her, she came back and told me also showed me what was in it AND was like if it's your favorite I will remember for next time! I think 3 stars suits this place. There is a fish pond as you enter which is entertaining for the kids. There is a small bridge that leads to the dining area. We were able to get immediate seating on a Saturday night at almost 7pm which made me worry a little bit. The meal was good overall. My Wife and I order Combos and shared with our daughters(5 and 3). The cook was nice and put food on their plate as he cooked rather than us having to transfer it. My wife got chicken and steak and I got Chicken and Shrimp. The steak and shrimp were excellent, but he overcooked the chicken and some of it was quit rubbery. The fried rice was very good and the show portion with fire and what not was good. We also got a Play Boy Roll on fire. It was kind of cool how it cooked at the table with fire while wrapped in foil. It had good flavor as well. One problem I had was I ordered a beer. I finished it before our appetizer came out and was never asked if I wanted another beer. Such a long time went by before the drink waitress even came back that I didn't even ask for one because I was kind of put out. It seems like every other week a new Japanese steakhouse (complete with teppanyaki grills) opens. I personally don't see the attraction of the pomp and circumstance so I typically sit at a normal table and order off the regular menu. Hirosaki is pretty generic in that respect. The miso soup was meh. If you blindfolded me and didn't tell me that the salmon was seasoned with curry there would be no way for me to tell. Ok let me just say once you have been to one hibachi place you have been to them all. I honestly do not get the hype but my family goes here for every birthday. The servers are super nice but I agree the service is slow. We have a large party that takes up 2 tables and by the time the first table is done eating the cook is just starting for the second table so it takes forever. I think I am going to order off the menu from now on bc the hibachi does not agree w me. I think it is the gallons of sauce they drench on there. This restaurant is clean compared to others I have been in. I think they either need to hire more chefs or more servers. read more

We used to love this place, but after tonight we will not be going back. I called to make a reservation at 11am for 5pm. I explained we had a large group with multiple young kids and they explained how kid friendly they are and looked forward to seeing us. Got there before 5 and waiting until 5:30 to be seated. Part of our group had a hungry unhappy kid who was throwing a smaller fit and they were asked to leave if they couldn't make their kid happy. We are so upset and can not believe that happened! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was great! We shared the giant sushi boat! It was wonderful and artfully arranged and presented. We received amazing service! I also noticed hw when you sit at the hibachi table and order so for example when you order a plate you get one whole piece of meat. At Hirosaki they split your meat up while cooking it so your paying more for food but not getting your whole order. This restaurant has been my go to place for sushi and hibachi on the west side...that changed today. Our waitress was very rude and seemed very preoccupied with other tables. Giving the benefit of the doubt as my group had 6 people and there were other groups there larger than mine that she had to assist. Her rudeness was also noted by someone that joined our table. We ordered an appetizer that didn't come out until our food was prepared. By then it wasn't much of an appetizer. Someone at our table(not with our party) found a long hair in her soup. The gentleman cooking our food miscalculated portion sizes and everyone received varying amounts of rice and veggies. Those that had the same thing missed out on portions(for me it was scallops) my mother ordered the steak and shrimp and he had given all of the shrimp away and had to request more be sent out in order to make hers. Finally when it came time to pay, the waitress through my card on the table and said "Decline". I explained that was impossible and asked to run the card again. She told me "No I ran it 4 times". I asked if she could again and this time she ran the card while I looked on. The credit card reader said "Chip Malfunction" yet she insisted my card declined. Someone who I assume was a leader came over to help. She too saw the message and said the same thing about my card declining. I replied that it says chip malfunction and not decline and that I've not had issues with my card all day. To which she replied "we run lots of cards everyday". I think she sensed my frustration and went to another terminal to try my card. And like magic, it worked. I have never been more embarrassed at a business. The amount of disappointment with the service and food have made me not want to return. No pictures because honestly there was nothing photo worthy. read more

The young lady (no one had a name tag) who sat us at the hibachi table was rude and acted as though it was an inconvenience when asked a question. It was my friend's 1st time at a restaurant of this type. Therefore, she had questions. The lunch hibachi menu stated that the rice came with soup. My friend politely asked what are the soup options because we didn't see any listed anywhere within the menu. The server proceeded to say, I'll bring it out. My friend asked if she meant that she was going to show us the options. The lady said I'll bring you some soup. Needless to say, what the menu doesn't state is that there is no option. The soup brought to us tasted like chicken broth with 2 slices of slivered mushrooms and 4 noodles floating in the bottom. Overall, the rice was okay -a bit dry. The hibachi process seemed slower than other places that I've visited before. He did the rice first, then the various meats, and finally the veggies. By the time he finished the process, the rice and shrimp were lukewarm. I had to add soy sauce to get some moisture. I don't have plans to return here. I'd rather go back to Sakara restaurant in Castleton. It was a much better experience. Oh my goodness, how could I forget the hair in my sauce. There's a double-sided dish that they put dipping sauces in for you. Mine had hair in it. Disgusting! read more

Do you like sushi? Lots of flavor and tons of options? Great prices? Then Hirosaki is the place for you. Working on this side of town a couple years ago made this place my go-to every Tuesday and Wednesday for lunch and get this... half price sushi?! Yes please! Cherry Blossom, Mango Tango, Las Vegas, so many fantastic options. I always make sure to plan my West side trips around Tuesday and Wednesday just to take advantage of it, and even if I have to drive an extra 20 minutes out of my way. Now if only there was some way to keep sushi fresh for days. Elon Musk should quit screwing around with the Hyper Loop and solve that conundrum! read more

She seemed to have to go consult and look for tables on the floor through all this also. Absolutely no organization. People cutting to the front were getting seated immediately . Once we were able to check in-we were offered immediate seating IF we sat at the bar. Fine. No bartender ever seen. Bar was covered in dirty glasses and plates. Left at that point. I have only been to a couple hibachi places.most are the same. Dinner and a small show from the person who cooks. This place had better veggie selection. Not nasty wheat grass or whatever. This is your standard fare hibachi restaurant. It's great for entertaining younger kids but leaves a lot to be desired for the adults in the crowd. The hibachi menu is identical to the ones found in similar looking restaurants all across America. The drink menu could be substantially better. The beer options are very limited and the cocktails all are some variation on sake. Despite the fact that there are few places in central Indiana to be served draught Japanese beers or Japanese whiskey, Hirosaki does not capitalize on that. We arrived before our group and were immediately told that we couldn't be seated until all members had arrived. That was understandable but we had to be the ones to ask if we could sit at the bar and have a drink until then. I was given the impression that they may not have offered because the bar staff was being used to fold napkins despite it being 5pm on a Saturday night. If you can't make it to the other parts of town, Hirosaki is serviceable for the west suburbs but it would be worth 20 minutes in the car to go elsewhere for a better experience. read more

I took maybe 2 drinks and when I sent it back the lady was very rude and said that I had drank half of the drink. Untrue, I could not get more than 2 drinks down because it was so terrible. I love sushi but I feel like the actual quality of the seafood and preparation is substandard. Menu items were fresh, cooked well, and the prices were not bad overall, but there were a series of unexpected up charges for certain menu items normally included at such a place. However, the neat, open decor, unique koi pond bridge in the lobby, and pleasing atmosphere were soon overwhelmed by the average overall dining event. We were placed in a private room for our table of 12, but it was cold even table side. I was more entertained by my company than the grill ninja's antics. From my history, you can see that I try to find something memorable, unique, or positive to pass along with my reviews, but sadly I would not encourage others to sink your chopsticks here for a special occasion. Maintenance meals, a fresh and light lunch, or a simple date night are the limits here. Stopped in here for a quick sushi fix on my way to a show. Thanks to the other reviews on Yelp for pointing this place out to me! The restaurant is huge, and when we got there we were the only ones in the place! We sat at the sushi bar, but they did have hibachi style tables if you wanted to go that route. The food is not good and I would not recommend. When you first walk in the atmosphere is relaxing and there is a nice little pond with coy fish in it. I decided to sit in a booth instead of at the sushi bar or hibachi tables. Soon after being seated I noticed that some paint was chipping off of the walls next to me. There was also a dirty vase on the table with a dusty and broken plastic flower in it for decoration. For my beverage I ordered the hot tea. It was your average tasting Oolong. I ordered the steak entree, some edamame, and a cherry blossom sushi roll for my meal. The Edamame was very good. Not too much salt, just the right amount. Next was the salad which had a good ginger dressing but was on top of what seemed like an iceberg lettuce and carrot mix that you would find in a bag at the grocery store. After that, was the onion soup. I always look forward to this the most because it is a comfort food of mine. Sadly it tasted like fried chicken juice and not really like onion at all. The onions that were in it were oddly mushy. I was not impressed. When the entree arrived I was hopeful that it would be good because it looked fresh. The portion was a bit too big but that seems to be the case at most hibachi restaurants. My steak was good, maybe a bit under seasoned but I would rather it be that than the alternative. Unfortunately the rice was overcooked and way too mushy. The cherry blossom roll was supposed to have crab in it and tuna on top but it seemed to have ground up tuna in it instead of crab. The sushi rice was also overcooked and the tuna tasted old and I didn't eat the rest for fear of getting sick. All in all it was not a good experience and I will not be returning. read more

After unbelievably and absurdly slow service time and time again, it just isn't right for me to keep this review at 4 stars. The final straw was our sushi visit to Hirosaki last weekend: 5:37p ... walked in the door and were escorted to our booth 6:12p ... waitress took our order (just as we were getting ready to leave) 6:44p ... received smoked salmon nigiri that we ordered as an appetizer 6:51p ... received the remaining 4 maki rolls The sushi is so good here, it's a true crime that they take such a long time to get it to your table. 35 minutes to even visit our table to take our order?!? On this evening, they had literally ** no other customers ** on the non-hibachi side besides a table of 12. I understand that a table that large commands a lot of attention and resources ... but that shouldn't make you completely ignore everyone else, especially if that's only a table of two! We got 10% off for our troubles that night but it simply wasn't worth it despite the excellent food. I love the sushi here but simply cannot recommend the restaurant in general because of the consistently awful service. We'll still order sushi from Hirosaki, but it will now always be takeout so we don't have to commit an entire evening to dinner. read more

Best hibachi grill west of Indianapolis. I came from the eastside for this. Used to go here with my father years and years ago so this place brings back great memories. Huge parking lot. When you walk in you go over a little koi pond. You can either do the hibachi grill or sit at a regular table. We went for my nieces 2nd birthday and she was in awwwe of it all. Staff is friendly. This place seems kinda weird from the outside, but it's so so yummy! When you enter in, you tell the waitress if you'd like to go to the bar, the hibachi, or just the regular restaurant. I highly recommend the hibachi! The way it works is you sit (usually with strangers) around a huge stove top, choose what you want, and a chef comes out and prepares the food for you right there! Usually the chefs show-boat a little to make it fun & its a great way to meet and chat with new people! Plus the food. Is. Phenomenal. Omg, the fried rice here is the best I have ever had in my life -- SO SO YUMMY! The only downfall is they do try to have an almost full table before they prepare the food, so sometimes you're seated, but have to wait 5-10 minutes for others to be seated at the same table.
