We strictly come here on Tuesday or Wednesday night for half-price sushi night. They're sushi is really good, flavorful, filling, fast and they don't cut back your servings at all on half-price sushi nights so it's definitely worth it. Now not all of the sushi is half-price on the menu, but they clearly tell you which ones are and it's a great selection that is. Since they are so busy on these nights, sometimes there is a bit of a wait. Ambience is fine if you're just going to fill your belly, but I would not necessarily make this a "newer" date night because the ambience isn't that all. Again, fine to fill the belly. We stopped going to their hibachi section long ago, it's not the same as it used to be, not good for the price. That's why we just go for sushi and this is what this review is based on. Don't sleep in the chicken friend rice either that you can order in the regular seating area, that's the BOMB!!! Take some home too (big servings!!) and it heats up really well for leftovers. read more

I was heading to Cheddars to get a plate of meatloaf. It's good there. This place happened to catch my eye. I thought," I wonder if they or katsudon on the menu?" They had katsudon, but not curry. So I ordered it and the calamari appetizer. The calamari was alright. Not great. Then came the katsudon, or at least their poor attempt at it. There were so many issues with this dish. Firstly was that they stir fried the pork cutlet with vegetables and pan fried an egg. A katsudon is prepared by poaching an egg and vegetable concoction over steamed rice. I should have known it was going to suck when the waitress asked if I wanted steamed or fried rice. There were pieces of cabbage in this... I should have just went to Cheddars like I planned. It was later in the evening so things were quieter and we had our own table/grill. I had the plum wine, which if you like sweet wine, was very nice. I had steak and scallop and my boyfriend had steak, and a couple shrimp were thrown in as well. We were served what I'm guessing is the clear soup, and the salad had a creamy ginger sauce. The entrée preparation was entertaining, and the chef even fired up the onion volcano a second time so I could take a video, haha. Food was great - I don't typically love fried rice, but when it's fresh off the grill it's amazing, and Hirosaki did not disappoint. A lot has changed here since ownership has changed hands. Some is good. Some is not. Overall, the service has improved. It also seems to be cleaner and more organized. They also have 50% off regular rolls a couple of nights per week. There are nice changes to the menu, but a couple of our favorite rolls are gone. The size of the rolls has decreased dramatically. I would say that they are about half the size as they were before. Prices have not decreased. Some of the ingredients don't seem as plentiful or fresh. I don't mean the fish, but rather the peripheral ingredients like avocado, cilantro, etc. We had always gotten the shrimp tempura and the serving has never been especially generous, but it was pretty good for the price. Last night it was a nightmare. Three tiny, over fried shrimp. A thin onion ring. It was $8.95! The crab rangoon at $5.95 was much better. read more

Allergy Alert! Our family of 10 was disappointed in our first visit here. The major issue was that my son-in -law has a shrimp allergy so we let the waitress know right up front his would have to be cooked separately. (We've done this successfully at many other restaurants.) When the cook showed up, we also warned him of the allergy problem. He did start by cooking the rice and chicken first and put that on my son-in-law's plate. He went on to make the noodles and shrimp for others. Only then did he start the vegetables, but without cleaning the grill or changing utensils! We all rolled our eyes and told him of his error but he didn't seem to understand. When he tried to give my son-in-law some veggies, we stopped him and asked for the waitress. She didn't really understand what our problem was but offered to have a fresh set of veggies made in the kitchen. How would they know to do it right there if they didn't understand the problem out front?? The other issues that caused me to rate it only one star is that while steamed rice is included in their rather high priced meals, they charged extra for noodles or fried rice! The salads bowls had been pre-made...perhaps 2 or 3 days earlier as they were soggy and full of water. And the soup was just basic broth... While the menu said there would be a 'required' 18% gratuity due for our table of 10, I would have liked a way to decline that in this case...but we paid full price, plus tip, for a very disappointing experience! read more

I was trying to o take the kids to experience what I did at another place similar but the experience was t really the same, the night started and immediately we were told they've been busy all day and only have 3 cooks(which at the time didn't seem bad considering there weren't many people in the place) there were 3 hibachi tables including us with guest the other 2 were just finishing up as we sat down. I went to koto in Carmel the night before and told the guy I wanted the kids to see the hype lol, he said well we'll have to step it up. The chef here didn't really do much as far as entertainment he hide the egg in his pocket but that was it. The servings were small as well compared to what I had the night before at another establishment similar, the chef seemed exhausted to be honest with you, even my kids said when we left "he seemed tired mom" ‍ food was pretty decent. C'mon, it either has fish broth or it doesn't. It seems like a straightforward inquiry. Second, the service was slow as molasses and not nearly as sweet. Finally, the sushi rice was unseasoned and so bland! I was craving Japanese food and decided to give them a try on Doordash. The sushi was satisfactory, but what really turned me off was that their chicken katsu (cutlet) wasn't breaded in panko like it traditionally is and tasted bland as a result. Their miso soup also had an off taste to it and had noodles in it, which I found odd. I gave them three stars because they didn't miss anything on my order and the yakisoba turned out okay. This is a Japanese style restaurant. They have a nice bar area. You can sit at a table or hibachi in the restaurant. We always choose hibachi. The people in our group ordered chicken, steak, shrimp, and scallops. They start out with the soup which is a thin broth with a few mushrooms and noodles. Next the little bowl iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing, although they do have other dressings, this is pretty standard. Our hibachi chef had a few tricks on the grill and we received the food very fast. The fried rice and vegetables were superb as were everyone's meats. The shrimp and scallops were very large. I had the Plum Wine which was excellent. They also have a sushi menu. It's a little dicey finding the back entrance into the shops where it is located. Our dinners ran $19-$23 each. We have been to many different hibachi type restaurants. We were celebrating my grandson's birthday and he loves the Hibachi experience. We were let down with our chef. He made no attempts to engage with us. Our waitress was very nice and attentive but we had to ask if our grandson's birthday could be acknowledged with a dessert or singing. Their half priced sushi rolls on Tuesday and Wednesday are the best deal in Avon! I've been looking for a new Hibachi place since Sapporo's in Castleton closed (). Tried this place out yesterday and it's... okay. The hostess was super sweet and very nice. Our server was nice. The chef cooked our food but unfortunately there were a few cons. First off, they served Pepsi products but were out of everything except Dr. Pepper and Pink lemonade. The cook didn't do any of the normal "show" that happens at hibachi. We had a total of 6 children at the table we sat at and got nothing. That's what a lot of folks come to hibachi for and I was really looking forward to my toddler seeing it for his first time at hibachi but no dice. The koi pond was cloudy, the place had broken blinds, greasy windows, and just generally not very clean. I had a steak and chicken combo but the chef passed out most of the chicken before he got to me. He offered to cook more. Then he brought out some already cooked chicken and put it on the grill. Never seen that before since they usually make the chicken in front of you so I had no idea where this chicken came from. I just prayed over it. Even with all this, the food was great! We had kids shrimp hibachi, chicken hibachi, steak and chicken combo, a California roll and a shrimp tempera roll. The seasoning on the hibachi food was on point and there was plenty of it. All in all, I'm still searching for a hibachi place that checks all the boxes but this one gets a 5/10. read more

I take my hat off and say thank you to Hirosaki, due to the fact that this was the place where I was introduced and fell in love with sushi. Up until I was approximately 20 or maybe 21, I had never tasted sushi. My best friend took me here and it was a far beyond superb first experience. Initially, my first thoughts on what sounded ideal to me was something along the lines of hibachi shrimp and steak with fried rice. But, with a little poking and prodding and encouragement from my buddy, I decided to give in and broaden my horizons by trying some authentic Japanese sushi. Right off the bat, the waitresses, hostesses, and hibachi chefs are very engaging and enthusiastic. Nothing in particular struck me to where I would declare or label this place filthy or unkept. Cleanliness seems to be something they could put on a resume as a qualification. From placing a drink or meal order up until you receive your food, the timing is pretty decent and along the lines of ideal. Long enough so you can catch up and talk with your date, friend, or family members, but quick enough to where you don't get anxious because your stomach is growling from hunger. Oh yeah, miso soup and a small salad are included with your meal. What I got that first time is pretty typical to what I get every time I go there now: 1 shrimp sushi roll, 1 scallop sushi roll, 1 spicy chicken roll, and a miso soup. I love seafood so I didn't think or assume that I would not take too kindly to this new delicacy. I loved every single bite I had that night. What I really appreciate and what stands out to me about the spicy chicken roll, is that it would make a very good introductory sushi roll to possibly a preteen or young adult who wants to get into sushi. Then, I'd say branch out and give the shrimp or crab roll a chance afterwards. I have always loved this place and I can't see myself not continuing to go in the near future! read more
