    Glazed ribs

This is one of our favorite spots in Mountain View and have never been let down by the food that we have been brought. On our most recent visit, the server recommended the glazed ribs and those were a hit! The food always comes out quick, warm and smells delicious. There are still items we have yet to try and we will be back to sample them. If you are looking for a high quality Bao bun spot stop in and give him a chance!

Below average food. Service is average. Ambiance is a bit moody and modern. Wouldn't bother coming again.

Soupy, juicy, flavorful. The pan fried pork juice bao at Mr. Bao Kitchen Cuisine in Mountain View is my new favorite. Absolutely loved it. We also tried the crab and pork xiao long bao and the chicken bao - both solid. The string beans and egg chicken noodles were decent but nothing to write home about. The real star? Those pan fried baos. Crispy bottom, soupy inside, packed with flavor. Nothing much about ambience but service is fast and great. Must try if you're a bao fan. Worth coming back just for those.

    Shanghai Style Stir Fried Noodle

We decided to have a quick lunch date at Mr.Bao for our Valentine's Day. We got there 5 minutes before they opened at 11:30am on a Saturday and they were already seating people. A few tables already had people seated and we got seated right away. The music they had playing was giving us asian massage parlor vibes. Lol. Ordering was quick., we ordered.. SHANGHAI STYLE PAN FRIED PORK BUNS (6) $12.99 -very hot and juicy. The meat was tender and seasoned well. The buns weren't oily but the bottoms weren't crispy either...they were more chewy. 3.5/5* SHANGHAI STYLE FRIED NOODLES W/ SHRIMP $15.99 -also have options of veggie or chicken. I enjoyed the thick, chewy noodles. The shrimp and veggies were fresh and crisp. Simple but I enjoyed the nice wok aroma. 4/5* PORK XIAO LONG BAO (6) $12.99 -hot and super juicy. The dumpling skin was delicate and thin. The meat was tender but a bit under seasoned. 4/5* Overall everything tasted very fresh and the food came out pretty quickly. Service was friendly and they came around to check on us. I would come back again if I was in the area!

    Drunken Chicken

The restaurant was cute with a viewing window of chefs making bao. I thought all the food was very flavorful. I would probably not order the cucumber again - it tasted very fresh, but I feel I can make that at home. The drunken chicken was fair, but my mom thought it could have been better. We liked the pan fried bao and the noodle soup most! We would definitely come back.

Ordering was a bit challenging as there was a language barrier. Shanghai noodles combo was excellent. According to the staff, that is their #1 selling dish. The shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings were out of this world good. The fried green beans were a bit raw as one reviewer mentioned. If you intend to go during meal times, be prepared to wait at least 45 min.

FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 4 AMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 5 With so many XLB choices in the area, we think this restaurant serves one of the best. What makes their XLB the best? Thin skin, lots of broth and meat stuffing that's not too firm. Their scallion pancakes are just the right thickness with crunchy top/bottom and a mild scallion taste. Their Shanghai style pan fried pork buns is crispy on the bottom, soft and thin on top with lots of "juice" and tasty meat inside. Be careful, the "juice" can be very hot! Service was friendly and consistent, they seemed to want you to enjoy your visit. When you don't want to wait 2+ hours for XLB, come here instead and enjoy your meal.

Summary: Very, very okay eats Details: I can't tell if the high reviews for Mr Bao so far are due to a dearth of options in MV or... but either way, our group of three were all pretty disappointed by the food here. Now, that's not to say the food was awful, but it certainly wasn't worth driving almost an hour for from our respective cities, with plenty of better options just 10-20 minutes north or south of here. The majority of dishes were got were FINE: not inedible, but not mind-blowing either. We had qualms about basically every dish we got though: - XLB were fine, but a little flat in flavor and possibly over-steamed with a slightly mushy dough - Vegetarian dumplings were way too thick, and on the sweet side - SJB were not crisp/crunchy enough, and tasted like fried dough that had started to get a little soggy - Rice cakes were actually probably the best dish, but we usually expected more vegetables with this dish - Hot and sour soup was actually terrible, tasting more like just boiled water with sourness and a lack of actual substance, completely lacking in spice and depth of flavor Bit of a bummer really, given how friendly the staff was, and how much manual labor you can see going into the food here. Maybe an okay option if you live in the area and don't want to trek anywhere else, but there are a ton of better dumpling options elsewhere. Accessibility: Plenty of accessible seating options and space to maneuver around.

Cute little dumpling place that is decorated to seem more upscale. We went on a Thursday around 2pm. Not many people there, only one other table. We ordered the drunken chicken, crab steamed dumplings, pan-fried pork dumplings, and the veggie and pork fried rice. Overall the food was average, the steamed dumplings did have a thin skin and good soup and the pan fried dumplings had a nice crispy bottom. The drunken chicken is a skip, not even flavor and alcohol. We ordered the crab steamed dumplings but they waitress put in the wrong order and order the regular pork ones instead. Later when we asked her about why the crab ones taste like normal pork, she then realized she placed the wrong order and does remember us ordering the crab one but did nothing to rectify the matter except apologize. Rice was a bit oily which is typical. Decent if you are in the area and want dumplings but I wouldn't purposely come here for it.

This is a new xiao long bao and shen jian bao place in mountain view. I know somehow people associate Shanghai with xiao long bao but for me shen jian bao is more of the soul of Shanghainese fast food. I grew up with them so I'm picky about them. I think the shenjian bao themselves only deserve 3 stars because not only it needs more white sesame seeds (get rid of the green onions) outside but also something is missing in the meat inside. I have a feeling they use similar filling for xiaolong bao and shen jian bao but they are somewhat different and the filling needs less meat taste but more of a filling that enhances the bun but not take away from the buns because the soul of shen jian bao is the bun and the charring of the bottom of the bun (upside down). The service is really good and the place is surprisingly spacious. I charring is good but the buns flour mixing is too light (don't know how to describe it) and too fluffy. It needs slightly more chewiness and the filling needs more work but decent enough. I've decided to give this place 4 stars even though strictly speaking the food is 3 stars. The location is hard to as it's below the street level but you shouldn't miss it if you look for it.

    猪肉生煎包 (panfried pork buns)

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 My dad saw that the cuisine is Shanghai food and got excited, so he insisted on speaking in 上海话 to the staff. Thanks to the staff for being good sports about it! The chefs are Shanghai chefs (my mom even pointed out they dress like Shanghai folks LMAO) so the food is pretty authentic although my dad found the meats in the 猪肉生煎包 (panfried pork buns) and in the 上海荠菜大馄饨 (shepherd purse pork w/seaweed) a bit sweet, but I overall really liked them and vinegar paired well with the pork buns. The soup for the wontons tasted really light which I enjoyed. I really enjoyed the 炒年糕 (fried rice cake) - really flavorful and none of them were stuck together, the 馄饨 (the wontons / purse pork mentioned above), and 香干马兰头 (dried bean curd w/ "Ma Lan", which is a veggie that does really well in this dish) - light and refreshing. We also ordered 上海醉鸡 (drunken chicken) which my dad ate a bunch of. Fyi, all the appetizers are cold dishes including the drunken chicken. They were playing light jazz, relatively quiet, in a relaxed atmosphere. Overall loved it, tastes like my 奶奶's food :')

Delighted to find this little gem! We arrived Saturday evening and fortunately a few groups had just left so we were able to get a table. The servers were very attentive and helpful, providing suggestions and specials of the day. One of the specials was the beef noodle soup. My partner and I always try beef noodle soups so we couldn't resist. It ended up being fantastic and hit the spot on the chilly December evening. Fantastic broth flavor that was rich yet balanced; expertly executed beef and bok choy; and addictive noodles. We're beef noodle snobs, and we're happy to give this one high marks. It's a must-get if it's on the menu! Xiaolongbao on point. Delectable and perfectly cooked, and with soy sauce and vinegar at the table. Can't go wrong. Shanghai style fried pork buns were spectacular and a star of the evening. Perfect execution of slightly crispy, chewy exterior, containing hot, juicy, flavorful pork and broth. Wondrous dish and a must-get. Cooled things off with cucumber salad and some Sapporo. If we find our way to Mountain View again -- Mr Bao will be top of the list.

Bright and airy interior with "bao" making visible

Came here with a friend from Shanghai to try out their Xiao Long Bao and Shanghai style PanFried Pork Buns. Mr Bao Kitchen is nicely located in downtown Mountain View with free parking lots close by. We came early for lunch and were seated promptly. The restaurant is not too big. It is bright and airy with high ceilings. And the "bao" production can be seen through a transparent screen. The menu is very simple, just two pages. But they do have some specials that are not listed. Service was nice and friendly. We ordered a Pork Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings, a Shanghai Style PanFried Pork Buns, a Combination Shanghai Style Fried Noodles (chicken, shrimp, and veggies), and one of the specials which was Sticky Rice Siu Mai. Food came out rather quickly and at a good pace. The XLB were very good, skin was thin and meat was tasty and juicy. According to my friend who's Shanghainess, the taste could have been a little bit sweeter to be more authentic. The PanFried Pork Buns were decent, the bottom could have been crunchier. The nice thing about it was that the meat inside tasted different than the meat inside the XLB. Most restaurants would have used the exact same ingredients. The Sticky Rice Siu Mai was very tasty, I would have preferred a thinner skin. The Shanghai Style Fried Noodles were average. Overall it was a pleasant lunch experience. I would recommend this place if you're looking for some decent XLB.

Reservation was easy to make over the phone and you have to preorder duck ahead of time. We also got pan fried buns, bok choy, and mandarin fish. Dishes are expensive but good quality. I read mixed reviews about the duck but I thought it was great - crispy skin and relatively tender/juicy meat. It is the first time I've seen an extra charge for the duck pancake wrappers; it was not a pleasant surprise but at least they were thin and delicious. We opted to have a soup made from the leftover duck and that was delicious. Service was also pretty good; they even packaged the leftovers for us. Highly recommend for a special occasion or to impress friends but too much of a splurge to go to regularly.

Unfortunately, it just wasn't as good overall as the Belmont spot. The space itself is older, and the seating feels pretty tight and not as comfortable. As for the food, we ordered the Peking duck, which came with a lot of meat, but the duck itself didn't taste fresh at all. It had that distinct, stale "old meat" taste to it, and the texture was completely off and mushy rather than having a nice, fresh bite. The xiao long bao missed the mark too--the wrappers were too thick and the filling wasn't nearly as savory or delicious as what we're used to. Even the basic steamed rice tasted like a cheaper, lower-quality grain. For the other dishes, the stir-fried scallion lamb was way too salty, even though we specifically asked them to go light on the salt, and it lacked that deep umami flavor they get so right at the other location. On the bright side, the Treasure's signature beef honeycomb tripe was actually really good, though the spice level is definitely on the higher side so beware if you're sensitive to heat. For dessert, I finished with the sesame glutinous rice balls in sweet rice wine because it's one of my absolute favorites, but it fell short since there was barely any wine or osmanthus flavor. The service was also pretty lacking throughout the night. They didn't even bother to clear our dirty dinner plates off the tight table after we ordered our dessert, so everything was incredibly cramped. They also completely ignored the rest of our Peking duck instead of proactively asking what we wanted to do with the carcass bones and the remaining meat. We had to specifically flag them down ourselves to ask about it and explain what we wanted done with it, which should really be standard practice for a proper duck service. Compared to the sister restaurant, the execution, environment, and service here just aren't quite there yet.

Must check it out; looks dated, but still open so, food should be decent? C1 lunch plate consists of barbecue roast pork fried rice, chicken Chow mien and an egg roll with the sweet sour dipping sauce. All greasy but tasty. Stir fry beef with bitter melon in black bean sauce and white rice that my friend got was healthier and pretty good; she liked it. For dinner at China Wok, another pal and I enjoyed the almost scalding hot Westlake soup to start, and then dug into the house Chow mien, then fish fillet with snow peas. Noodles were great texture with excellent wok hay flava and contained shrimp, pork, chicken, onions and bean sprouts. I really enjoyed the delicate white fish sautéed in opaque sauce with snow peas, carrots and water chestnuts. I found everything very tasty. Service was brusque and adequate at lunch, slightly more welcoming at dinner. Oh and if you need to use the loo, don't expect much. There's a key you take outside.. yup, exit the building, and it's in the rear. Serviceable toilet and sink.. dim lighting makes everything appear dingy. Exactly like oldie gas stations and rest stops. Maybe this building was a fueling station for trucks before someone turned it into China Wok. Still, the Chinese American food here is legit; basic but tastes good. Value, amenities, atmosphere and service, though, could stand to improve. Upping a star just for being a place that has stuck around for some decades and is still standing.
