Stopped in Indy for a couple days and heard Tupelo is amazing so of course I had to check it out. As soon as I stepped in, the nature-inspired vibes from the hanging flowers and plants everywhere mixed with the stylish decor really impressed me. I was seated quickly at the bar and the bartenders at that time were great and punctual and making sure I got a menu and everything else I needed. I definitely appreciated that they weren't constantly approaching me, but they read my cues with knowing when I was ready to order or needed something. I was really pleased with the service that I received. The menu had a mixture of American comfort food as well as classic Southern dishes. I took several glances at the food other were ordering and they all looked so appealing and appetizing. I decided to order something that I haven't tried anywhere else, so I ordered the Southern Shakshuka, which is their own unique spin-off to the original. The meal comprised of a base of creamy cheesy grits topped with a somewhat rich layer of roasted tomatoes and vegetables and poached eggs. OMG it was amazing and so flavorful! This is my first time passing by this restaurant since moving out of the city, and I'm so glad we stopped. The food was outstanding and looked as good as it tasted. The drinks we ordered were equally satisfying. For starters we ordered the fried pickles, which honestly may have been my favorite ever! And then for our meal we ordered the sweet and spicy chicken and waffles and classic chicken and waffles. Arianna (sp?) our server was super sweet and efficient. She was one of two servers (it seemed based off presence) in the place so it did take a bit for our orders to be taken and to receive everything it she made sure we were taken care of! Tupelo Honey is a fantastic date night spot with solid food and a fantastic vibe! Tried it out for the first time for a Valentine's date last week. Its fresh and fun atmosphere was a welcomed contrast to the cold and dank weather. We got a reservation ahead of time so we were able to sit right away. Our waitress was pleasant, but transparent of the fact that she was new and hadn't tried many things on the menu yet. No worries...I'm never afraid to explore a menu! Lol! We knew we wanted to start off with the fried green tomatoes, and they were fantastic. The fry on them was perfect, not too greasy. The tomatoes were fresh, and it was all laid over a soft velvety bed of grits. For the entrée, I went with the shrimp and grits while my wife ordered the chicken and waffles. While I thought the grits were a little soupy for me, all the flavors were there and I was not disappointed. Wife loved the chicken waffles. Great flavor on the chicken! I also ordered one biscuit on the side with the peach jam for a little something sweet. Not gonna lie, I wanted to drink that peach jam! The only bummer of the night is that we ordered the signature margarita and mule and both were pretty weak. Not sure if the bartender was just having an off night, but it was what it was. This is my third time eating at Tupelo Honey and it might just be a comfort food for me at this point but isn't that what all soul food is? I always get the chicken and waffles and brussel sprouts. The chicken was very flavorful, not too spicy, not too sweet and the waffle was soft as well. The Brussels were cooked to my liking but I wish there was something additional to them, maybe honey but they are still delicious! I ordered a new coffee and enjoyed that as well. The sever was very nice and attentive too our table even though there wasn't too many people in the restaurant and the place was clean! I've been twice now - both times with a three year old and they've been very patient and attentive. Bless their hearts. Excellent food. I really like their fried okra - no, it isn't hard to mess up, but most don't get the seasoning AND texture perfect. They do it well for me here. I've tried both the original and spicy chicken and waffles. Now, I do like a little spice, but the spicy was a bit much for me. The original (shown in photo) is my pick for flavor and texture. We love to try places we have never been to before when participating in DEVOUR INDY. This time we sampled Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen and Bar. This place is adjacent to the Alexander Hotel. Parking is easy; we used a nearby garage. First, the cocktails were amazing. In fact my wife said her Espresso Martini was the best she had ever had. Our appetizers of fried green tomatoes and crispy brussel sprouts were very good with the tomatoes served on a bed of grits and drizzled with a red pepper sauce. Our entrees of Shrimp and Grits and half fried chicken were brought out hot and quickly. The grits were packed with shrimp and the 18 hour brined honey dusted chicken was juicy on the inside and so so crunchy outside. HOWEVER. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENING WAS THE SPECTACULAR SERVICE WE RECEIVED FROM ASHLEY. She was very attentive, very informative of how the menu was prepared and all smiles. Most importantly, she displayed a distinctive pride in restaurant she was representing and the quality of food she brought to the table. They also bought the lemons with most seeds ever. There is a fine line between good meal coupled with good service. It's about timing. Cocktails should be out before meal and with appetizers. If you order a second, while waiting... it should still precede meal. If 4/5 dinners arrive, we all are waiting for the 5th. It needs to be priority 1. The meals were good. Good portions. The tomato soup was the consistency of marinara sauce. Add some liquid before serving. The fried green tomatoes were best dish on the table. The fried pickles too, were served hot and promptly. My partner had been to another location before and suggested we try this one for brunch--my first time here. We made reservations for a Saturday afternoon and were seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, which was a nice start. We started with a dirty chai, a mocktail, and the biscuits for a cause. My partner liked the chicken and waffles, but the mac & cheese was pretty bland--nothing special. The sweet potato pancake was the standout: not too sweet on its own, but the pecans and syrup balanced it perfectly. The scrambled eggs were also good, though I'd have preferred the cheese melted into them instead of just on top. Overall, it was a decent brunch! This is a much overdue review as this was Valentine's weekend. We had a 6pm reservation, but didn't need it as they were able to seat others as quickly as us. The place was brightly decorated and had a nice romantic warm glow to it and the table was nice and clean as was the rest of the restaurant. I stayed with water to drink whereas my wife chose the ginger turmeric tonic. I tasted her tonic and found it had a pleasantly light ginger flavor. We started with fried pickles. While there were a lot of friend pickle chips, they were very thin. While that did make them crispy, I tend to prefer them more thickly cut. The fried pickles came with a nice and tangy ranch dipping sauce. I had the dark meat fried chicken with two drumsticks and a thigh dusted with a pleasantly spiced honey coating and a side salad with ranch dressing. The chicken was nice and crunchy and the honey coating had a nice spiciness to it. I just wish there had been a little more meat on the bone. The salad was colorful and crunchy, but had pickled red onion and I dislike pickled red onions, so I took them out of the salad. However, the ranch dressing was good and creamy. There were sweet pickle chips on the side of the plate, but I'm not a big fan of those, so I didn't eat them. My wife also had the dark meat chicken with two drumsticks and a thigh, but coated in a sorghum black pepper dusting. She had a side of braised bacon collards. She enjoyed her chicken and loved the collards. I tried a taste of the collards, but I'm not a fan of collards. So even though the bacon flavor was nice and smokey, I didn't care for the collards. However, that's not the restaurant's fault, that's just my own personal taste. When we finished with dinner, we both shared a nice and creamy banana pudding. It had a nice rich banana flavor with chunks of fresh banana throughout and whipped cream on top. It was a perfect ending to a mostly good meal. We would be willing to return. read more

We always like to try a few new restaurants during DevourIndy so we decided to try Tupelo Honey this week. It was definitely a good choice. It is right in the center of downtown and walking distance to a lot of venues. There is metered street parking in front and also on the side depending on what time you go. There's also a parking garage one street over. We made a reservation just to be safe but 5:00 on a weekday wasn't hard to be seated. Our seater/server was very friendly and helpful with menu advice. I had the best espresso martini I've ever had and my meal was plentiful and tasty. I started with the grilled Brussels sprouts. They were delicious and I had enough left for my lunch the next day. My entree was a generous sized bowl of shrimp and grits. It was tasty. I finished with their Mississippi mud pie. It was a small serving but just the perfect amount. read more

This was a very cool spot to try in Indianapolis! There was no waiting! Skye took great care of our party of five along with the surrounding diners. This location has indoor and outdoor seating options plus a bar. The decorations are very nice and the 'Kiss My Grits' wall was a great photo op for my group. We tried several different dishes and beverages. I chose the Salmon Gritcake and the Fried Green Tomatoes which were amazing! I would love to try more items on their menu when I return to the area. One thing I can say is that the service was great, our server was very attentive and tried to accommodate as much as possible. And I loved the spaciousness of the restaurant. Also, the layouts of the restaurants are consistent. The restaurants are brightly lit and it does give that country living vibe. It's super cute! However the food was not consistent. I started with the fried pickles, which were super salty and did not seem like they were cooked fully through because there was still grease dripping off of them when they came to the table. I also had them fried chicken sandwich for my main entree, a dish that I had gotten numerous of times. But this time the chicken breast was highly under seasoned. I actually had to ask for a side of ranch to get some flavor. To sum it up, I like the restaurant, I just wasn't impressed with this particular location. read more

The food is delicious! This was our first time here and we enjoyed ourselves! We went on a Sunday around 2:45p! We could tell that the brunch rush had just ended, as there were several tables that needed cleaning. We decided to sit in the bar area and the bar tender came over right away to grab our drink and food orders! We ordered the Biscuits for a Cause and the Fried Green Tomatoes as appetizers and the Life's a Peach Waffles and the Smothered Chicken for our meals! None of our food disappointed us! Both appetizers were so yummy! The Fried Green Tomatoes come on top of grits which was different but so delicious! The biscuits are so light and fluffy and that peach jam is insanely fresh! The Life's a Peach waffles were so yummy and so was the Smothered Chicken! I am not a gravy person, but this gravy was delicious! The Smothered Chicken comes with two sides. I chose Mac and Cheese and Crispy Brussels! Both were delicious! The Blueberry Lemonade is a must try for sure as it was amazing! Overall, we had a really great experience! One thing that can be improved is the cleaning of the tables once customers have finished and left! Seeing all the dirty tables was kind of an eye sore. Cutely decorated restaurant with great service and delicious food. I've been to the one in Greenville but this is my first time at this location. We were in Indianapolis for FDIC. We normally walk somewhere close but with the number is firefighters and vendors in town it was hard to get into a restaurant in our immediate area. I did a search and found this one. Remembering how good it was in Greenville, I suggested going here and the food did not disappoint. We started with the Biscuits for a cause. It comes with butter topped blueberry compote. It was so good and for him not to be a fruit eater to say how good it was, you KNOW it's good. I had the chicken tenders and side mixed green salad. He had the sweet and spicy fried chicken with the rosemary and parmesan crispy potatoes. All of it was so good. We will definitely be back next year! read more

Tupelo is a wonderful Southern-inspired spot for brunch, lunch, happy hour (specials!) and dinner. While the parking can be tricky as there is no dedicated lot--the food is consistently tasty, made-to-order and flavorful. I've been here many times and even hosted my sweet pup, Frankie, and her puppy-pals here earlier this year for her birthday. Their patio is dog-friendly and have an adorable dog menu with bacon, peanut butter, and chicken. All pip meals are served on frisbees that you get to take with you! Pro-tip: Ask the staff nicely to rinse or wipe these off and also get a separate bag to snag em to go! I've had mocktails, cocktails, and sweet tea many times -- all sweet and delicious! I recently had the sparkling blueberry lavender water and wasn't a fan. My most ordered dishes are the Mahi (yum!) and the Power Bowl. The Mahi comes with at least one side (happy hour & lunch) and two for the dinner menu. The Power Bowl doesn't come with sides, but is hearty and great to take home for later. The menu has a little something for everyone AND you can't leave without the banana pudding (delish!) Overall, the ambiance, environment, and atmosphere are warm, inviting, and casual.
