Bone In Fried Chicken - grits & potatoes

Second visit to Tupelo Honey on Mother's Day and I had brunch my way. Ordered the chicken and waffles once again, but this time paid a little extra for the bone in chicken verses the strips. The bone in chicken was much flavorful and juicy and came with two sides. Meal was super good, service was great!

This is my first time passing by this restaurant since moving out of the city, and I'm so glad we stopped. The food was outstanding and looked as good as it tasted. The drinks we ordered were equally satisfying. For starters we ordered the fried pickles, which honestly may have been my favorite ever! And then for our meal we ordered the sweet and spicy chicken and waffles and classic chicken and waffles. Arianna (sp?) our server was super sweet and efficient. She was one of two servers (it seemed based off presence) in the place so it did take a bit for our orders to be taken and to receive everything it she made sure we were taken care of! There are many seating options from tables of two to a group of 20. The prices were reasonable, the ambiance is casual and hip. Will definitely consider going back!

Tupelo Honey is a fantastic date night spot with solid food and a fantastic vibe! Tried it out for the first time for a Valentine's date last week. Its fresh and fun atmosphere was a welcomed contrast to the cold and dank weather. We got a reservation ahead of time so we were able to sit right away. Our waitress was pleasant, but transparent of the fact that she was new and hadn't tried many things on the menu yet. No worries...I'm never afraid to explore a menu! Lol! We knew we wanted to start off with the fried green tomatoes, and they were fantastic. The fry on them was perfect, not too greasy. The tomatoes were fresh, and it was all laid over a soft velvety bed of grits. For the entrée, I went with the shrimp and grits while my wife ordered the chicken and waffles. While I thought the grits were a little soupy for me, all the flavors were there and I was not disappointed. Wife loved the chicken waffles. Great flavor on the chicken! I also ordered one biscuit on the side with the peach jam for a little something sweet. Not gonna lie, I wanted to drink that peach jam! The only bummer of the night is that we ordered the signature margarita and mule and both were pretty weak. Not sure if the bartender was just having an off night, but it was what it was. Overall great spot and I can't wait to come as the weather improves to enjoy some of their outdoor seating!

This is my third time eating at Tupelo Honey and it might just be a comfort food for me at this point but isn't that what all soul food is? I always get the chicken and waffles and brussel sprouts. The chicken was very flavorful, not too spicy, not too sweet and the waffle was soft as well. The Brussels were cooked to my liking but I wish there was something additional to them, maybe honey but they are still delicious! I ordered a new coffee and enjoyed that as well. The sever was very nice and attentive too our table even though there wasn't too many people in the restaurant and the place was clean! If you're in the area, Tupelo is always a great place to eat at!

I've been twice now - both times with a three year old and they've been very patient and attentive. Bless their hearts. Excellent food. I really like their fried okra - no, it isn't hard to mess up, but most don't get the seasoning AND texture perfect. They do it well for me here. I've tried both the original and spicy chicken and waffles. Now, I do like a little spice, but the spicy was a bit much for me. The original (shown in photo) is my pick for flavor and texture. The spicy was too spicy for me to enjoy it the 2nd time around. Overall, great staff. Very cute location with plenty of natural light and seating. Clean bathrooms. I'll be back!

Came here for brunch and loved how big and bright the restaurant is. I ordered a chicken sandwich and a side of soup. The sandwich was pretty good, and the soup was amazing! Prices are reasonable and the service was great. Would recommend!

We came to get a small bite to eat. I tried the green fried tomatoes and a caesar salad both were good. Bf had chicken tenders these were over cooked and didn't taste well. He did say the sauces weren't bad. I'd come back to try a few more things during happy hour for sure!

We love to try places we have never been to before when participating in DEVOUR INDY. This time we sampled Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen and Bar. This place is adjacent to the Alexander Hotel. Parking is easy; we used a nearby garage. First, the cocktails were amazing. In fact my wife said her Espresso Martini was the best she had ever had. Our appetizers of fried green tomatoes and crispy brussel sprouts were very good with the tomatoes served on a bed of grits and drizzled with a red pepper sauce. Our entrees of Shrimp and Grits and half fried chicken were brought out hot and quickly. The grits were packed with shrimp and the 18 hour brined honey dusted chicken was juicy on the inside and so so crunchy outside. HOWEVER. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENING WAS THE SPECTACULAR SERVICE WE RECEIVED FROM ASHLEY. She was very attentive, very informative of how the menu was prepared and all smiles. Most importantly, she displayed a distinctive pride in restaurant she was representing and the quality of food she brought to the table. She is indeed an asset to Tupelo Honey and truly made our experience the best.

the place is pretty empty on a Saturday during a Colts game. Perfect time to go. Service was ok; not bad, not exceptional. I haven't been here in a while. The food portions are small for the price. I left hungry. I had avocado toast. I enjoyed the toast but just wish there was more. The person I was with and order shrimp and grits. It was good but would be nice if a biscuit or something came with the meal.

We had a bogo offer so we decided to come here for a lunch. We scored free parking close by and as downtown wasn't too busy I didn't put in for reservations. There were only a couple other tables occupied. Our server greeted us and took our drink order and food order quickly. We were advised they are changing their menu Thursday so they no longer have collard greens. We got 2 orders of the biscuits for a cause. The proceeds go towards a fun for employees in need. The biscuits are like a drop biscuit with a light crunch on the outside and soft inside The blueberry jam is good. Peach one was just like you took diced peaches out of a can and used them The gravy pairs really well with them as a dipping option. The honey they bring to table is even better. I ordered the smothered chicken with 2 sides Chicken was breaded lightly and you get 2 pieces however the chicken was a little tough and dry. The gravy is good and creamy and the basil is a nice added touch Chicken Pablano soup is full of chicken and very flavorful I would definitely get this again Grits are very creamy and were good. Hubby ordered white meat fried chicken with Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts stole the show. They had a nice little char to them and you get a huge portion put a sprinkle of salt on time and they are amazing. The chicken lacked flavor once you got thru the skin. A little dry. Decent fried chicken but have had better Towards the end of the meal our server left and didnt say anything to use so it was a while before someone came and checked on us and by that time we finished with our meal and could have used refills prior to finishing our meal. Other than that overall decent experience.

Half chicken and brussels. Very good.

It's good option for trendy fried chicken. We enjoyed our meal, but our trainee server just didn't understand timing and bartender was slow to orders. They also bought the lemons with most seeds ever. There is a fine line between good meal coupled with good service. It's about timing. Cocktails should be out before meal and with appetizers. If you order a second, while waiting... it should still precede meal. If 4/5 dinners arrive, we all are waiting for the 5th. It needs to be priority 1. The meals were good. Good portions. The tomato soup was the consistency of marinara sauce. Add some liquid before serving. The fried green tomatoes were best dish on the table. The fried pickles too, were served hot and promptly. Then the staff stopped helping our server and the wheels fell off. I blame the manager... he ensures staff help noob.

Tupelo Honey was the perfect comfort brunch food after a late night concert in downtown Indy the night before. If a menu has an espresso martini, you better believe I will be ordering it and theirs did not disappoint! The inside of Tupelo Honey is cute and our server was fantastic! He even let my friend try a side dish when she couldn't decide which to order. My hot honey chicken and waffles with Mac and cheese was AHHHmazing!! If you are looking for a fun twist with a kick on chicken & waffles, then this is it!

Im not sure what is going on with Tupelo I have been twice in the past couple of months and it has been dead. They offer a lot of specials and now happy hour. They may need a good marketing push because the food is decent and it offers a brunch kinda scene. The service is def not what It used to be and the bartender is ok. I will continue to support.

Where the best place to park?

I'd recommend ParkMobile street parking. There's a garage called CityWay South Parking Garage that is pricier than street parking. You can park just down the street in Fletcher Place for free for a 5m walk.

I paid the $8 to upgrade the mac to lobster mac...so delicious & so worth it (the upgrade was so unnecessary but so necessary, iykyk!). I also love that they allow you to mix & match on the sliders (filet, fried shrimp, or wagyu beef with Brie). I went with 1 filet and 1 wagyu beef, which was also perfect! Would love to try the fried shrimp at some point. The accompanying aiolis perfectly complemented the sliders! I completed my meal with a lemon drop martini. Service was friendly & attentive. Will definitely keep this spot in mind the next time I return to Indy & would highly recommend to others. In fact, I found it superior to my experience @ Harry & Izzy's--much more my vibe!
