This is the spot of the old Ye Olde Tavern renamed bake to the original name of this space. Limited menu at opening and new chef coming in next week so grain of salt here.... will update when it's been open a few months. Update from second visit: No real menu changes. Spinach dip was just edible to me and awful to my dining buddy. There's blue cheese in it (which we both love) that doesn't fit well completely takes over any other flavors. Batter on fried chicken and chicken fingers is flavorless and fries are boring. Chicken is fried well, tho, not too greasy and not too dry. The atmosphere in here is pretty good. There's lots of room for groups and even some outdoor seating and service has been good, although I've not been here with it busy.

Checked out the fireplace and roasting jack, and immediately went outside for a sleigh ride. It was fun, and lasted about 10 min. We headed back in and had some cheese spread and crackers which were good and a drink from the bar. Soon it was time for warm mulled cider and wine. It's cool how they heat them up, with a plunge of a hot poker from the blazing fireplace. The mulled wine was very good. Shortly after the mulled wine the prime ribs came off the roasting jack, the fire built up, and the cauldron put on for the seafood chowder. All the ingredients went in, and people were offered the opportunity to stir it. Things wrapped up downstairs and the crowd headed upstairs to the dining room. I'd say there was ~150 people. Tickets were $90 each. It's communal dining which I typically like. It's cool to talk to different people and see where they come from etc. Not tonight. The person sitting next to us was like a radio you wish you could turn off for 2 hours. Not the restaurant's fault of course, but it did distract from the evening. Bread was served, white bread rolls and sweet potato muffins, I didn't try them but they looked nice. The seafood chowder came out, it was very good. The main course was brought to the tables, it was prime rib, 2 salted roasted potatoes, and a healthy dollop of mashed butternut squash. Unfortunately this is where the real disappointment started for me. My prime rib was so tough that I couldn't cut through it with a steak knife, and raw. I ate one of the potatoes, and it was fine. The butternut squash had thanksgiving type spices and the taste I had of them was nice. The myoglobin from the raw meat turned everything red and watery so I didn't eat apart from that. Dessert was hotel pans of apple pie, I didn't try it. Not being a quitter I took the prime rib home and after cutting off the hard fat with a proper kitchen knife was able to salvage ~4.5 oz. I tried to coax some tenderness into it with a quick sear and it worked. Unfortunately it was livery so into the trash it went. In my humble opinion the experience was very nice, with the food taking a back seat. That said, other people seemed to enjoy their meals, mine may have been the outlier. I won't be back.

Service is great, very attentive and friendly. The food is what earns this three stars. I tried a stuffie, German onion soup, a Farmhouse burger, and a key lime Mason jar. The stuffie was a little small, and most of the flavor was imparted by the ham and the squeeze of lemon. The German onion soup, I'm not sure why it was German except to not be French? Outside the name difference, the onions were way too large, and there was a total lack of flavor going on in the soup. The crock was very large too. The burger and fries looked pretty good, and I enjoyed the flavors here. The fries were rough hewn, so there was good crispness from all the edges. The toppings of the burger, and the bun, were also hearty. Unfortunately, my medium rare burger was more like raw meat with surface browning. I'm a big fan of rare steak, but ground beef needs a little more cooking. Also, the house made ketchup is really more of a marinara sauce. If I'd ended up eating more of my plate before they took it away to re-fire the burger, I would have asked to replace the ketchup. The key lime Mason jar was e everything you want to wrap up a meal. Great flavor, lightness, citrus. I did have to bring most of it home but, unlike the burger they brought back in a box, I'm excited to get back into the key lime. From an accessibility stand point, there is no ramp to get in nor handicap parking, so the evidently don't want your business. Once you're in, there are some seats you could get in, but if this place were full it would be difficult to navigate for anyone. The bathroom is a single room, but very spacious and nice. So, mixed bag for access. Your mileage may vary, but I'm not racing to return.

While I was visiting several places in Central Mass, I stopped in North Brookfield for dinner and decided on Connect Restaurant & Lounge, formerly Statz Restaurant & Lounge. I had previously visited the other location, Connect Restaurant in Spencer a while ago, but that location was closed (temporary). I saw mixed reviews of this North Brookfield location, but decided to go ahead and eat here. The place offers a cozy lounge dining room, a larger back dining room, and outside patio seating in the front (small) and back (larger) of the building. The menu offerings include sandwiches, burgers, salads, pasta dishes, starters, wings, soups, seafood, steaks, chicken, and desserts. They serve Coca Cola products here. The prices here seem fair, most entrees $11.99 to $25.99 range (in 2025). They also offer daily specials and their $9.99 entree specials on Monday - Thursdays. The bar offers 6 draft beers, bottled/can beers, signature cocktails, and mocktails. Upon arrival, since the place wasn't too busy, I was able to pick where I wanted to sit and seated myself in a booth in the larger dining room, just below the live music performance section, a musician was setting up. I was given menus and specials list to look over and got an ice water. While I was waiting for my food, I was given complementary fresh baked focaccia bread with olive oil, seasonings, & cheese for dipping. Next, the Classic Popover ($3.99 plus tax) came out hot, crisp outside, soft inside & hollow with maple syrup for dipping. Next, the Chicken Madeira ($18.99 plus tax) served with two side choices came out very hot with two sauteed chicken cutlets smothered in a rich madeira sauce topped with soft melted mozzarella cheese with soft linguine and fresh green beans on the side, filling up the plate. I was also given more focaccia bread & oil dipping too. After finishing my meal, I passed on dessert and was given the check with Toast QR code, which was $24.42 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food I had all tasted pretty good once again. I would return to try other things on the menu including the steak tips and another pasta dish. The service was efficient and prompt.

We had an unfortunate experience this past weekend. I had scheduled a birthday party for about 45 guests at a local venue with a private room. About one hour before the guests were to arrive I received a call from the venue saying there was a catastrophic electrical failure and the facility had to close- including the kitchen, bar, and restrooms. I was now faced with 45 people milling around a closed facility waiting for a decision on how to continue the celebration. My stress level was the highest on record. I was considering a few places to move the event to, but being 6PM on a Saturday night I knew the chances were slim. It was then I thought of Steaming Tender and gave them a call. The hostess who answered was incredibly compassionate and spent a tremendous amount of time with me on the phone. She assured me that they would be able to accommodate us and started to reserve several tables. The entire group arrived about 25 minutes later and we were all greeted like old friends. We had to wait less than five minutes for the tables to be arranged and menus distributed. The evening couldn't have gone better. The food was as excellent as it's always been and the waitstaff was incredibly attentive. The guests were amazed at how quickly we were taken care of, and the quality of the food and service. The drinks were made perfectly and the food was served hot. About two thirds of the guests had never been to the Steaming Tender and were saying they would be returning. Kudos to the entire staff and management of the Steaming Tender at their professionalism and compassion at saving us from a total disaster of an important event. We will always be grateful and will continue to extend our recommendations. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I don't even like au jus, but it was so good, I would've been happy just to drink it. Who doesn't even smile at a compliment like that? Especially as I later found out she was one of the owners. She should have been over the moon. I'd say it wasn't technically a bad experience, but it also wasn't a good one. Also, it was right at the end of their first open mic and we knew the host personally. You'd think after seeing we knew their entertainment, she could have, at the very least, faked a smile. Kind of her loss as I'm a DJ and could have easily boosted their clientele, but I'm not going to recommend a place that makes it seem like it's a chore to wait on you. Even though she didn't know that, as someone who has also been in the restaurant industry for a large portion of my life, the very first rule of customer service is to make them feel wanted, no matter how you're feeling, and smiling at them is the easiest way to do it. Even if you're only doing it for the tips, being nice to people is one of the easiest things you can do. And being nice to others, will almost always make you feel good in return. It's a win win. As for the ambience, top notch. It's a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and it's not crowded like a lot of other restaurants (meaning the tables are properly spaced and you're not on top of other customers)
