Food has been outstanding every time I have asked specifically for menu items. I get mine gluten free. They have tons of great options. Love the friendly staff and relaxed quiet picnic tables. Enjoy your summer while you can. Fries are 100% real potatoes so if you are looking for super crispy, these are more authentic British style fish and chip not crispy processed ones. I keep trying to enjoy this place again it just doesn't feel the same since the ownership changed. We went the other day with the entire family portions seemed decent but fries were over cooked and most were so hard you couldn't even eat them rolls on burger and dogs seemed stale. It was a typical drive up both sides Stan that consisted of once I was all ice cream purchases. The other side was food. They had homemade onion rings and they had what they call a tasting bowl. You can get like three different different kinds of ice cream for like one price so it's three small scoops which would normally be like four dollars each but if you bought all three of them together, it was like eight dollars I think so. We had three different kinds of homemade ice cream. And then to go with it, we had the small freshly made homemade onion rings for both of them are amazing. The food was so good. I would drive by there again just to stop and eat something different and the people know the first time they were very helpful and friendly they explained everything and I even got a new person and she was still understanding to explain whatever ice cream flavors they had available For Sunday Drive being a car motorcycle. It would definitely be worth a nice Sunday drive up there. The tables and chairs outside it was a little moist so we didn't sit outside the tables. I'm not a fan of the brand of ice cream they use. The fried foods are very greedy, maybe need to drain a minute longer before giving to the customer. I also don't eat seafood of any kind and have had the fries that taste like I'm eating fish. So I couldn't eat those either. Been goin here for years- if you're looking for icecream, this is the spot to go. The portions are huge, so a small is a medium and a large is an extra large lol Also, great seating outside! Parking lot can be tricky to get in and out of bc this place is packed all summer, but it's worth the headache. The fried food is okay... can't speak on the seafood, but the wings/onion rings/tenders are just your average frozen then deep fried. We used to come here a lot prior to COVID, maybe once a month. Mother's Day was the first time back since then. We always ordered the SUPER DUPER Sundae. It is (or should I say WAS) basically an overflowing bowl of ice cream, with a banana, 5 toppings, whip cream, and a cherry. The reason for the 3 stars has to do with the SUPER DUPER we got today, was NOT like the one back in the day. Beware under new ownership. That is what shouldve been on the back of their "Open April 26th" instead of "under new Ownership, celebrating 75th year" (wording best to my memory). I was looking foward to howards since they closed season last year, but be careful what you wish for. I couldve excused the silly and clumsy service ( that another customer at the ice cream window was disbelief at as well), if the food was good or even passable. It was not. I ordered my food to go and when I got home I was sad. So sad. The food i was anticipating was the biggest let down ever. Each food item requires a 3 dollar upcharge for fries to a meal or "plate" and paltry doesn't even begin to describe the amount or quality of fries. You can get better at wendy's or mcdonalds. How can you mess up fries this badly. They look burnt but soggy and oily. Chili dogs with regular hot dogs and old stale hot dog buns, yum. Add in a moldy or i dont even really know what that is on one of them and you get the picture. Grilled cheese with bacon. Again soggy with a singular american cheese and mediocre bacon. Kids tender plate looked better than all the rest. Tenders were average. Hot lobster roll was...ok. The lobster meat didnt taste frozen or as frozen as some other rolls i had. But it lacked hot butter on it or the side and/or a buttered roll. All in all for $70 bucks i was very disappointed. Until I see photos and reviews that they've massively improved I will be using their competitor down the street. For shame. read more

Its gone downhill. It's not what it used to be. They are so cheap they can't even give you REAL to go containers with your sundaes. We got these lil thin plastic boat looking things and they flip on that looks just like it over the top. No box no nothing. Cute off the road stand that is always packed. Always pass by heading to Walker Farm in New Braintree and see a sea of cars here. They offer a lot of seafood dishes, burgers, chicken sandwiches etc. I had the 1/2 lobster roll that came with fries and coleslaw. Also tried the fish and chips, which I wasn't crazy about, the batter it was almost like a cornmeal, something catfish would be fried in and the French fries were overdone. Plenty of seating along side the building and more in the back. You must call to place your order no ordering at the window. Adjacent is a ice cream shop, convenient if you have room for dessert. I grew up going to Howard's and whenever I'm back home visiting my parents in the summer, I always try to make it here. I don't know if it's the nostalgia factor, the generous portions (beware the "kid size cone"... it was actually bigger than my face!), or the food itself, but it's one of my favorite places in the area. There's a few different drive-in seafood spots in the area- don't be fooled, Howard's is what you want. For those who don't like seafood they have the range of typical all-American fare (burgers, dogs) at dirt cheap prices. But the seafood is really where it's at. I generally go for the scam platter- 1/2 scallops, 1/2 clams. Be sure to ask for extra tartar sauce because the portions can be pretty small! And even though with the wide variety of options is tempting, try to exercise restraint and save room for their ice cream!! read more

I had a scallop dinner the scallops were good but the fries must have sat under a heat lamp for hours before served cold (not edible). Caveat: I have not been there since Covid outbreak. However, previously we would go about four times a year. If you are wondering they take credit card not just cash. The prices are a bit high in my opinion for most food items. That is the negative about the place. The positives far outweigh those thankfully. Service is always top notch. Ice cream is a great price for the amount you get. Food quality is consistent and good. You can save money by ordering things listed under the food menu that is on ground level. A kid menu but still decent sized for a family on a budget. Plenty of seating around on one side and in back. Bring bug spray. We sometimes bring cards for while we wait. We stopped for lunch on a Saturday and our group of two ate shrimp, scallops, steamed clams, and fried clams, and we were amazed at the amount of food served and how fresh it was. It was pricey - $40 for two people - but so worth it. The kitchen wasn't too accommodating on substituting things, but at a drive-in (walk-up) type restaurant, we really weren't expecting it. The menu is huge and includes all types of seafood as well as some basics for land-lovers. They also sell many varieties of ice cream.
