We had the chicken fried steak and the hamburger steak. Both were very good. The broccoli was great and my wife liked the creamed corn. Our waitress was attentive without hovering and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambience with all the veteran pictures is cool.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We will stop again!

This place never disappoints! Have tasted most menu items and they are all delicious. If you are driving through Rosebud, it's a must stop for good ole fashioned home cooking. Plus the staff is amazing!

For quite a while, since 2013 my wife and I have been travelling from Addison to Brenham; and finally in June we decided to have lunch at the Cafe. A waitress greeted us as we walked in and told us to sit anywhere. The pics of the Veterans on the Quonset Hut walls were very inspiring! The menu was somewhat overwhelming!! However, I decided upon the chicken fried steak(which stayed hot throughout the meal!!!) and mashed taters and creamed corn. My wife chose the fried liver and onions, mashed taters, and fried okra. Unfortunately, she has not able to finish her meal and requested a "doggy bag" from the waitress. Me not being a lover of liver and onions, requested that her to go box be securely mounted to the luggage rack for the ride home! A wonderful meal, however after leaving the restaurant, I noticed on my credit card receipt that they charged for " a check out fee " because we used a credit card. I called them when we got home and a waitress who answered the phone said " that's what we do.... we charge an extra 4% to recoup the cost of providing credit card convenience to our customers" . However, they charge the customer an extra fee to process the tax that has already been charged to the customer. So they are making extra money of of a credit card transaction off of the tax that has already been charged to the customer. May not sound like much but, I'm sure it's going into somebody's pocket!!

Absolutely amazing!! Everything was delicious, incredible staff! Fast service! I had the queso chicken and greens beans with a side salad, my husband had the chicken fried steak, onion rings and Tator tots, followed by the peach cobbler! You have to have the peach cobbler! Also we absolutely loved seeing all the veterans being recognized! Just really does your heart good! Definitely stop in! -- we were traveling

I saw it. I stopped. I turned around. I will never regret this decision. I was given a piece of peach cobbler by a wonderfully sweet woman (probably an owner) so this place welcoming out of towners is doing an amazing job. The burger was BOMB!!! That means so delicious there was an explosion of great flavors in my mouth. Don't miss this place!! If you do, there are plenty of places to turn around. Lots of cool memorabilia. This diner is gem!!! The walls have pictures of veterans all over them...how could you not want to eat at a place so patriotic?! The food was AMAZING! The fried squash side was to die for. I will definitely come back here again when I visit my cousin. The owner and workers are also so hospitable and will provide you company when dinning alone. I couldn't recommend this place more! The service and food were okay. The value was poor. I ordered their B.E.L.T. ( bacon, egg, lettuce & tomato) with fries and a cup of coffee; $8.75. The sandwich was small, the fries were few (less than a small fast food order) and the coffee was stale. They got my order wrong and once corrected, I never saw anyone again. read more

We love this place! We travel from Fort Worth to the coast often and it's a must-stop every time. The bread pudding is the best you'll ever eat. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is great. We love the tributes to military guys, too. We also appreciate the precautions they're taking for Covid-19 lately. Give it a try! read more

Home cookin' at it's best! My family and I always have to make a stop here on our way home from Austin to Dallas. It's a cute family owned business with a patriotic and welcoming atmosphere. Pictures of veterans past and present line the walls and always make for an entertaining and enjoyable meal. The owners Sue and Bill are always very friendly to us and always make an effort to say hi to all of their customers. My personal favorites are the chicken fried steak, hamburger steak, and the onion rings of course! I haven't had one thing from the menu that I didn't like, which only makes the choice more difficult. If you still have room left at the end of the meal, I definitely recommend any of their desserts. There's usually something different daily that's homemade. The banana pudding is excellent! read more

Hwy 77 Cafe is TOPS! The owners, Bill and Sue, were very gracious to host our church bus group from Austin this past fall. The food was EXCELLENT (chicken fried steak, best!), the atmosphere was small town feel, the staff was SUPERB, the desserts were BEST (peach cobbler!). Please dont miss a chance to stop here if you are in area! You will not regret! We had over 40 people in our group and the comments after were all 5 star!!! NO COMPLAINTS! hwy 77 order a fish plate on saturday. fish was ok, however hush puppies seem to be leftover from friday taste like they were just thrown back in the deep dyer taste spoiled. cole slaw was incredibly dry did not taste good at all .i call back and spoke to the manager whom replied all of our sides r cook fresh everyday, however i know the taste of day old food..so i suggest if u r going to order a fish plate ..pls order on friday. read more

Excellent cafe from the hometown feel from the waitress Monica to the wall of military veterans honoring them to the food. Meatloaf was great and the chicken fried steak was great!! Save room for the bread pudding, is the best we have ever eaten!! Monica took great pride in where she worked and was one of the best hospitable person that served us. It's a MUST see! read more

Worst experience ever. I walk-in and ask the young girl behind the bar if I can sit down at the bar and she said yes. Then for 5 mini was not acknowledged . there's a guy with glasses behind the counter whom eventually asked me how I could help me so I said sure could we start with a menu. He gets menu with attitude and informs me to take a seat. I thought this odd since I was already sitting. I then say I'm already sitting sir . Are you okay I ask him. His reply was " no one is allowed to sit there. I count money there. The guy was drunk or stoned out of his mind. Next time I'm driving past it will be a hard pass on this place. read more

We stopped in at Hiway 77 Café and were blown away by the food and the atmosphere. If you love country-style comfort food, this is the spot! The chicken-fried steak was golden and crispy, the mashed potatoes were creamy, and the rolls tasted like it came straight from grandma's kitchen. The staff was so friendly and welcoming--it truly felt like eating at a friend's home rather than a restaurant. You can tell they care about both the food and the people. We stopped at this cafe on a trip home from the coast expecting the usual roadside fare. We were in for a very pleasant surprise. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the employees were friendly and courteous. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and it was very close to closing time, but we were not rushed and were made to feel as if we could have taken all the time in the world.
