I visited for the first time on Friday around 17:00, and the food was absolutely delicious! The parking lot was already starting to get busy when I arrived, with all the spots taken up at Ho Soon Yi. There were only a few tables inside but almost half of them were already occupied with several customers. I was quickly seated for a table of 1. The tables are fairly close together and the noise level is low enough to hear conversations around me. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I did hear other customers comment at their tables that the food here is good. There's a few ajummas working here, so service was straightforward. I ordered the kalbi dolsot bibimbap, which seemed inexpensive and came with some complementary sides, and they were nice enough to cut my kalbi into bite-sized pieces for me. I would say, if I can finish my food in one sitting at a restaurant, I am either really hungry, satisfied, or both. In this case, it was both! This is my first dolsot bibimbap after moving to Washington recently, and I am glad it did not disappoint.

Very expensive for this type of establishment. Bathrooms were quite run down. Food was good and service was mostly friendly, but a bit inattentive. My tea cup was empty for the last 30 minutes that I was eating. Portions were not large. Respectfully, for the money spent, I would probably choose elsewhere to dine, when in the area.

Was craving tofu soup, so I looked on yelp and found this place. We ordered a mushroom pork, tofu soup and beef Bulgogi. The tofu soup was good (too spicy for being mild/not the best I've had) and the beef bulgogi was very chewy (took the majority of it home to the dogs). There were several banchan and most were too spicy for me. My daughter loved the cucumbers and the kimchi. The total with tax and tip no drinks was ~$50. It wasn't awful, but I won't be back. There's too many better Korean restaurants.

My friend and I wanted to grab dinner together. We decided to go to Ho Soon Yi. I've been once before and this so happened to be his go to spot in Tacoma. We ordered a few dishes to share; the Haemul Pajeon (해물파전), which is a pan-fried seafood pancake with scallions, Beef Bulgogi and Spicy Pork Bulgogi combo (불고기반 돼지반 콤보), and Beef Tofu Soup (소고기 순두부). Along with these dishes, we also got two sides of rice and a variety of Banchan (반찬), which is small Korean side dishes served with a meal of rice and soup. This time around there were six different Banchans. The food was great and more than enough for two people to eat! We ended up having leftovers that we took to go once we were done eating for the evening.

Great atmosphere and nice staff. Foods were delicious and large portion. Everything was enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Such a cozy, comforting spot. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. The food was so delicious that we ended up eating most of the meal in happy silence--always the best sign. Refills came right away, which made the experience feel extra thoughtful and generous. On a rainy, cold Seattle day, this place is perfect soup weather. If we're ever back in Seattle, this is absolutely a place we'd return to.

Great Korean flavors without the BBQ smoke! We shared the Korean BBQ ribs and pork bulgogi--both perfectly cooked and super tasty. The kimchi, kimchi cucumbers, and sweet potatoes from the side dishes were amazing. They've got a big menu with lots of other Korean dishes (like stone pot soups) we're excited to try next time. Only downside; Service could've been a bit more attentive. Still, a solid spot for satisfying Korean food without grilling at your table!

Amazing food and service. Fun staff who made the dining experience a huge treat. The soups were delicious.

The food here is very good. It's a little pricey, so I don't come here often, but when I want good Korean food (and I don't want to cook) this place is phenomenal so it's well worth the price. Their banchan is awesome especially their kimchi and cucumber kimchi. All the food is good, but I especially like the tofu soup and the spicy pork. Their dolsot bibimbop is very good as well. If you haven't tried Ho Soon Yi, it's a must try for Korean food in Lakewood.

A go-to spot for high quality and authentic Korean food in the Lakewood/Tacoma area. It does get busy at dinner time, especially on weekends, so you may have a short wait, but nothing too crazy. The servers are efficient and kind, which makes the experience smooth. As a Korean, I can say Ho Soon Yi does soon tofu soup the best as it's their specialty and always hits the spot. The broth is rich and perfectly seasoned. Everything else on the menu is solid, but that's worth keeping in mind. If you want to treat yourself, I also recommend the galbi or other meat combos.

This place is just as good as last time I came. So awesome. The Bonchon are delicious, each one is different.and adds so much. I had the number 5 with beef. I love to eat and this place soothes my soul. Yay.

Does anyone know what items are vegetarian?

Can anyone recommend a dish that is gluten free? I've done some research and think many Korean dishes use soy sauce.

    Typically barley tea.

No, just an authentic Korean restaurant. The prices are reasonable, too.

We explained that once the grill was "seasoned," the food would not stick; which is why we didn't want it changed... yet he asked if we wanted it changed right after this. I also asked for more napkins, he brought one. The ventilation in this restaurant is horrendous, the smoke and heat from the grill were unpleasant for anyone sitting near the wall. I had to move seats after I was done cooking, because the heat was making me sweat profusely. A female employee came by and asked if we needed anything, and I asked for napkins (to wipe the sweat off my face). She looked at me as if I was asking for a slice of pizza. I asked her if there was a problem, because of the look she gave me. She responded, "no." I got the feeling as though she didn't want to give us napkins for some reason. Again, the food was good, but the service was terrible.

I stopped by around 9:30pm by myself.. jeez, the parking lot was absolutely packed. Every single spot in the main lot was taken, so I had to park in the isolated back area and walk to the front. Not an ideal parking situation imo, especially at night, if you're alone like I was. Thankfully there's sufficient lighting. The restaurant itself is pretty small with only a handful of tables, and it was EXTREMELY busy. There were already at least two parties waiting ahead of me, and there's barely any room near the entrance to wait comfortably. Only about four chairs available to sit and wait. It took about five minutes before any staff member acknowledged me, but to be fair, I guess everyone looked like they were running nonstop trying to take care of tables and orders. Eventually, a middle-aged male staff member came over and kindly asked how many [for a table] and when I told him "just a table for 1," he explained there would be a wait since there were no tables currently available. He spoke decent English thankfully, so it was easy to converse, and once I told him I was willing to wait, he remained polite and attempted to figure out the table seating situation. Based on his attitude and willingness to accommodate me, I decided to stay despite the hectic first impression. That's mainly why this is 4 stars instead of 5. He was nice enough to offer me a cup of water while I waited, I said yes, and he brought it out immediately. I waited about 30 minutes before finally being seated. By that point I was absolutely famished, so I ordered the BBQ Intestine Combo A along with a corn cheese appetizer. The Combo A is supposedly enough for 2 to 3 people, but I can definitely eat lol. It also came with bean sprout soup, Korean salad, and complimentary side dishes. The soup was decent. I didn't really care for the salad personally since I'm not much of a salad person. They also asked if I wanted rice, and they brought out the Korean-style rice mixed with (i think?) grains/beans/barley that I really enjoy at every Korean restaurant. The corn cheese was super good! It was cheesy, flavorful, and not watery like some places make it. I finished the entire thing. The BBQ intestine combo itself was absolutely delicious. It came out cooked really well and piping hot with veggies. Everything tasted savory and satisfying after such a long day. The combo included small and large intestines, beef stomach, and pork heart. I ended up eating about 85% of it before finally giving up and asking for a small takeout box so I can enjoy the rest later (which still tasted amazing after tossing in the air fryer). My total ended up being around $111 including tip, which is definitely pricey, but my stomach was very satisfied and the food was totally worth it. The atmosphere here is very lively. Throughout my meal, I noticed several Asian families dining together, mostly Korean with some Vietnamese families as well. You could hear laughter from most of the tables and even the kitchen staff. If you're sensitive to loud or crowded restaurants, dine-in may not suit your preference. Overall though, I would absolutely recommend this place for the food. Just be prepared for waits, limited seating, and a crowded environment. If you're dining with family, impatient with wait times, or prefer quieter places, takeout may be the better option. I did notice they seemed a little more naturally comfortable interacting with Korean customers, but I noticed the Korean party in front of me waited just about as long for their table, and personally, I did not experience any discrimination and felt I received fair service throughout my visit.

However, the service was simply horrendous. For the whole time we were there, we were made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and our patronage unwanted. When placing our orders, staff would: roll their eyes, walk away as we are verbally ordering, would not acknowledge our requests (so we didn't know if they heard it or not) and denied us items from the menu. From the moment we sat down, we were told the kitchen was closed so no steamed eggs and there was no lettuce left for us to have with our meat. We were not asked for any final orders before being denied refills despite having time left from what we were told on entry. The cherry on top was extra tip charged on the bill.
