So Moon Nan Jib is a Korean restaurant located in off of Pacific Highway in Federal Way. It is in a shared space with other businesses and restaurants with free parking. There is a huge variety of food here from Korean BBQ to other traditional Korean dishes all served with 반찬 (banchan, side dishes). This wasn't my first visit to So Moon Nan Jib, but it has been quite a long time since the last time. I suggested this restaurant to my sister since she was carving 순두부 (sundubu, tofu soup). We ordered three dishes to share, the Seafood Pancake and Tofu Soup Combo, which included beef bulgogi and our choice of tofu soup. We opted for the mixed tofu soup at a medium spice level. Our order came with two sides of rice and nine different banchans! It wasn't busy at all during the time we came. It was in between meal times. A little too late for lunch and rather early for dinner. We were able to choose where we wanted to be seated and was helped right away once we decided on what to order. The staff were friendly and assisted with any requests we had. Great dining experience and delicious food!

Great food. Didn't realize that there is authentic homestyle Korean food in the Tacoma/Seattle suburbs. This restaurant is situated at a Korean strip mall plaza where every business is Korean run - it's already a good sign that this restaurant could be good. The banchan is one of the best I've had, great variety, portion, and taste! The trumpet mushroom, honey potatoes, cold bean jelly are my favs but really everything is good. They come around during the meal to ask if you want refills. Very nice service! 10/10 Fish soup is my next favorite. Nicely spicy, fish is cooked very tender and full of flavor, works great with the tofu in the soup. The soup base tastes similar to the shin ramen soup. A solid 9.5/10 The steamed egg /egg soufflé is great. It's a Korean staple and easy to make, hard to miss on this one. 8.5/10 The beef ribs is also a staple and it's cooked just right. 8/10 The cold noodles is the only dish I'm not 100% sure about. The flavor is good, but the noodles are thinner than usual and because of that it's less chewy than the regular cold noodles. 7/10 Overall the food is : 9/10

소문 듣고 왔는데 역시는 역시 너무 맛있었어요! We got the la kalbi and soon tofu combo and the spicy squid. The la kalbi and soon tofu was sooo good!! The LA kalbi was soo good that we re-ordered it! I will say the spicy squid was just okay and I probably wouldn't get that. But overall the food was so good and totally one of the best spots in federal way/seattle area. Also the service was so good, and everyone was very nice and helpful :)

The food here was really yummy! I've been meaning to try the Korean food in federal way for a while, and this spot is constantly listed as one of the most popular. When we came on a Sunday evening, it wasn't that busy and we were able to get seated immediately. We got the baby octopus and pork belly, which came on a giant sizzling plate with glass noodles inside too. Of course we also got the spread of banchan, all of which were great. I really liked their glazed potatoes! The pork belly slices were so perfectly cooked and had a nice sear while staying juicy, and the sauce that coated everything was delicious. The portion was also massive - definitely splitable amongst 3-4 people. I'd come back to try more! Service was quick and friendly too.

We arrived at opening on a Sunday and noticed that they were starting to get busy around Noon. It look awhile for the banchan to come out. The potatoes, mushrooms, and zucchini were the stars. The fish cakes are usually my favorite, but theirs are a bit too sweet and floppy. My boyfriend ordered the bulgogi combo with the cold glass noodles. The bulgogi was mildly disappointing because the beef was a little tough. However, the glass noodles were epic! I was thrilled when my boyfriend ran out of steam and passed the bowl to me. I chose the spicy beef soup. When they say "spicy," they mean it! The heat was so intense that it was difficult to taste anything else. Service was friendly, the place was clean, and seating was comfortable. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 thanks to those cold glass noodles.

I came here with a friend on a Friday night and got seated quickly since it wasn't too busy. This area shares parking with other businesses such as Ajit and Cafe Spot, which is to say it's gonna be rough finding parking if you wanna go during the weekend since it fills fast and it's not that big. There's a lot of seating inside, and seems better situated for larger groups wanting to do KBBQ given the number of vents up in the ceiling above the tables. I ordered the deep-fried pork dumplings and the hot-stone bibimbap with my friend. Their banchan selection is pretty big and had things like fish cakes, kimchi, bean sprouts and potatoes. They even refilled some of them without us asking though not as frequently as some other places; this also included water refills. As for the bibimbap and dumplings, the bibimbap was piping hot and delicious, and the dumplings went well with or without the provided sauce. Food here was amazing, but probably because I didn't order KBBQ as was advertised by many other reviews before mine, I felt like I was missing out. I'll come back here with a larger group and see how it compares with other places.

This Korean restaurant was so authentic and had such a great atmosphere. Our server was super friendly and quick, which can be hard to find sometimes especially around the area. They made the whole experience even better. There was plenty of parking, which was really convenient. My dad said the interior felt like a military bar, and he absolutely loved it. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back!

Such a solid Korean restaurant in Fed! It's an oldie but a goodie for sure! My friend & I shared the Beef Bulgogi + Tofu Soup combo & the Spicy Pork + Cold Noodle combo. It was plenty of food, plus all banchan! Everything was well seasoned and the banchan was bomb. It was pretty empty when we got there so service was very quick! So Moon Nan Jib will always be one of the best KBBQs in Fed!!

I would give four stars but the tofu soup was laking flavor and the seafood was too fishy. The spicy cold noddle soup was great! Great portions and great taste. The banchan was amazing and great variety not stingy. We used to go here a lot but we stoped bc the service was bad. But this time the service was great the guy and lady very nice since you walk in. Very attentive and polite loved that. Kalbi had lots of flavor! They se to be remodeling so we will see when we come back.

We ordered ala carte barbeque- marinated LA ribs, pork belly and bulgogi with steamed egg, soybean soup and spicy cold noodles- everything was delicious and had plenty of side dishes. I would give it a few marks off of service because the initial lady that took our order and did some of the flipping of the meat for us seemed very harried and wanted to get away from us before we could ask for something lol. That said, food was great and we came away full and satisfied for the 4 of us.

So Moon Nan Jib is one of my top Korean restaurants in the greater Seattle area. We ordered the chicken katsu and raw spicy marinated crab! You could never go wrong with the chicken katsu here. It's perfectly crisp, big and the side salad is chefs kiss. As for the raw spicy marinated crab, it was so flavorful and fresh. Side dishes are always so good here too! It was a busy night, but the servers did there best to accommodate us.

We usually elect to cook our own beef, spicy pork, chicken in the grill and thoroughly enjoy the food quality here. This time we selected Beef and Mushroom hot pot. Wow! The broth was savory of beef with a slight sweetness to it, plenty of beef, onions, carrots, and more. Awesome dish that we'll have again

    Nadia K.

I ordered the bibimbap and galbitang, and both were delicious! The side dishes were fresh and complemented the meal perfectly. The customer service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. I would definitely come back!

How do we get a reservation here? I checked their website, no luck there... it doesn't seem like this place is listed on Resy, OpenTable, or Tock.

You have to call them at (253) 815-8888. They only take reservations for parties of 6 or more

Are the sauces and marinades gluten free? We have a gluten intolerance, but not celiac disease.

They are not gluten free. If your sensitivity includes standard soy sauce this won't work. If you can have soy sauce then you should be ok!

    Do they take Apple pay?

    They do not. I wish!

I'm looking for a restaurant that will accept a party of 8 for Father's Day. Has this restaurant risen its guest per table limit since April?

    Tokyoya ramen? In fed?

Can anyone please tell me what those 3 sauces are that they give you when you order KBBQ? I'm desperate to find out what they are and where I would be able to get them. I thought I knew, but my effort to recreate did not work like I'd hoped. Thanks!

Hello, thank you for loving the sauces. Yes, you might get it from Korean market such as H-Mart but the taste would be slightly different because all our sauces are homemade.…

Is this an All you can Eat KBBQ?

No I don't think so. Though the portions are quite big and we always struggle to finish.

How much on average do you spend at this place per person?

Depends if you're ordering BBQ or regular - around $12 for regular and $15-$20 for BBQ per person!

However, I had a horrible experience with service in May. It was by far the WORST service I've ever received, even based Asian restaurant standards (iykyk). I've always had older servers, usually ladies but on occasion on gentleman. This time, it was a young girl. It was my first time seeing her there. She had no facial expression to start. And after she repeated our orders, it was incorrect so I correct her. She said "I know", and repeated the wrong order again. When I clarified by listing the correct order, she just rolled her eyes and walked away. Isn't it a server's job to take order, and make sure it's correct? I did not take away from the tips because there are other servers who helped bring our food and refill the banchans, but this encounter made me not want to go back for a while, despite how much I like the food. Super crispy and crunchy but not a ton of meat a more breading. It felt small for a half a chicken or even a whole chicken. Not sure what size chicken they use for "whole" chicken. Yangnyum was good but the chicken was not coated too well. Top ones barely had any sauce and bottom ones were drenched in sauce. I wish they would toss it in sauce a little more evenly. I do also wish they would include the 1 side radish with each order as for Korean fried chicken place, radishes come with chicken as a standard item. Like ketchup for fries. You've got a lot of tables inside that are relatively clean and seat mostly groups of 4 or so. News in Korean is playing on a TV nearby, and the interior just feels calming with the uniform wooden floors and tables. Menu is limited here though most of it is for their traditional hangover soups. My friend and I wanted some meat dishes so we got both their spicy pork and beef bulgogi on sizzling grills. Both meats came sizzling when brought to our table, though they weren't piping hot from what I remember. Spicy pork was hard to chew at times, and my friend had to spit out one piece because it was too hard. It wasn't too spicy though I think it would have benefited from more spice since the flavor wasn't too strong. The beef bulgogi was both of our favorites, though the color wasn't too appealing and I felt there was a ton of liquid, as if the beef was plated before all the water evaporated from the pan. Service was top-notch for both of us, though. Staff were attentive in answering our questions, grabbing our utensils and getting us water when we asked. I felt this was a one-off visit because we didn't get the dishes this place is more well-known for, so I'll come back again to have their hangover soups instead.

My boyfriend and I were to first to arrived but I remember last time my mom and I tried to go in, they were really busy so I figured it would be good to check to see if we had to join a waitlist. Luckily, we came in at a good time and they seat your party even if they are not all there. Just a reminder that this is a small restaurant with 6 tables (also not that big) so plan accordingly. As the rest of my part arrived, we ordered a combo T, mala jjampong, gan jajang, creamy shrimp, chili shrimp, and shrimp fried rice. A table cleared up near us, and our waitress politely asked if we would like to attach another table to make room for all the food we ordered. I appreciated this so much as I was worried about how all the food would fit. It was so much better with the other table as food arrived and the portions are so huge so it was super appreciated that the waitress helped us out. The food was probably some of the best Korean-Chinese food that I have ever had in Washington. The flavors here are on point, the portion sizes can easily be meal today and a meal for later, and the amount of meat, vegetables and daikon was plentiful! The tea here is nice and comforting as well as great accompaniment to the food. I was also surprised to see their fried rice comes with not only jajang sauce but a bowl of jjamppong broth! The mala jjampong was the perfect spicy and numbing taste that I was looking for. I have to say the story of the show was the gan jajang, it was so good we started to dip rice, the tangsuyuk meat and more to enjoy it to the fullest. We mostly all had leftovers except for two dishes but I think that just shows how big the portions are here. The service here was friendly, I do wished they came by to check on us but it was a little busy so I get it. The staff here was friendly though.
