I came here for my birthday some months ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The only issue i had was that the outside seating was extremely uncomfortable- i had just tore my hamstring from the bone earlier that day- and that the inside dining room was so tiny! It started to rain, and we had to stay outside, so that sucked, but luckily we were near the end of our meal when that occurred. All the food was fantastic. I got the shrimp and grits, which I'm always skeptical about because the dish varies drastically from place to place. I loved it! The shrimp were large and i felt like the amount of shrimp vs grit was a good ratio! I would definitely come back, but because it's so small, probably not in a larger group! read more

We went for brunch shortly after they opened. I made a reservation on Resy (highly recommend). We were one of few parties in the restaurant when we ordered and it started getting busier afterwards, though not packed. It took about 40 minutes for us to get our food. For some reason practically all the other parties that arrived later than we did got their food sooner than us. Met a friend here for lunch. Cute little restaurant tucked away in Lakeside. I wondered if I had made a wrong turn as I turned down a residential street before spotting the restaurant. We had made a reservation (lunch on Friday). The indoor dining room filled up pretty quickly but there were tables available on the patio, which must be heated as there were a few people eating out there who didn't look like they were freezing. When you walk in, the desserts are on display ... and they all looked delicious! Definitely makes you want to save room for dessert. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits. I ordered the Rockfish BLT with the beet/mandarin salad on the side. We also split the chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert. Ambiance: very cosy place a bit crowded but overall it looked clean and charming. Sat outside and that can be a little noisy but that is what you get for being right next to road. The service was very good. Nothing to complain about. Food: I had the chicken sandwich and I thought it was fine but the bun was soggy. Also the chip were stale and I asked to get a fresh/hot order but was told that is how they come and suggested I get fries instead. The fries were overcooked and seemed not fresh (soft and not crisp) I usually finish my fries but I couldn't eat more than a handful. Overall I felt the side dishes I tried wasn't fresh or served hot and were overcooked. Not a fan. I'll try again but very skeptical it will be any better. read more

Spouse ordered the almond croissant French toast. You can get in with a wheelchair. But the parking is tight. There is no space for the wheelchair to exit a car. Spouse got me out then pulled into the parking spot. Place is small so the talking is loud. It came with fruit or bacon. We choose the bacon bacon is excellent. I took my spouse here for a date night and really enjoyed our experience. We sat at the bar due to not making a reservation (limited seating for indoor dining) but our service and atmosphere was great. We ordered the mushroom toast (starter), salmon salad, and the mushroom burger and were very pleased with the fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors. Very cute place nestled on Hermitage Road. Small and quaint. Parking is limited, but there is street parking available. Serving staff very attentive and friendly. We sat outside on the patio, but I had a sneak peek inside... very nice, but seemed loud. Our food was good but not as good as I expected. We ordered pimento BLT with onion rings and crab cake sandwich with fries. The BLT needed to have more filling but the onions were AMAZING. My crab cake sandwich was very tasty but the fries were over done for my preference. However...the desserts made up for it all!!! Homemade and delicious! Key lime pie and lime blueberry cheesecake!! Since the hob nob opened for business my wife and I and our friends have enjoyed eating at this small local restaurant. The food has always been good, meal portions plentiful and their serving staff very friendly. During the pandemic, they also made themselves available to bring food to our community, which was a nice touch Although the restaurant itself is small, and could be noisy, depending upon the guests present, our experience has always been positive. They do provide a small outdoor patio when the weather is nice, which can be a welcome alternative. Always leave room for dessert because they are absolutely delicious. read more

My wife and i brought my 80 year old mother to Richmond to see a show. I asked for recommendations and a local Richmond resident suggested Hobnob. There were other suggestions but Hobnob takes reservations. We were going to a show and wanted to make sure we weren't waiting or standing in the cold. Online it let me pick 10:45 on the patio. I called and asked if it was heated. I was assured it was. Well the patio isn't really enclosed in glass or plastic but a mesh screen. They did have heaters at the top of the room pointing down in a few locations but at by he bottom it was still cold, especially by the screens. The patio was not full when we got there. There were three open 4tops. The table they set us at was right next to the screen. My mother was clearly cold but not wanting to bother anyone to move to the tables closer the the physical building. It seemed like a really easy fix. Well i was wrong. The waitress acted like it would be impossible to move even though there was no one at two other tables. I asked the hostess and she was even more weird about it and came up with all these excuses why they couldn't move us to the empty table we wanted. No one was waiting. So they moved us to the table a little closer the wall. Im still confused why it was even an issue. The waitress came and asked for drinks and starters. Cool we ordered drinks and got the cider donut holes which were very good. We were eating the appetizer before the other table arrived finally. Not even all the people but the hostess acted really happy to see them....like she knew them. Waitress offered zero suggestions as "everything was just so good". Anyway it was brunch so my wife got a salmon salad which she said was meh. My mother got the French toast which ended up being the real highlight. I got biscuits in gravy which was good not great. We stopped in for an impromptu date night on a Tuesday night. The outdoor seating was really cute and it wasn't too hot, so we sat outside. The patio was very cute, but would definitely be too hot for me personally if it were any hotter out. The food was really good, and they were super great about adjusting meals for allergies at the table, which was great. Excellent lunch at Hobnob! We were driving from Monticello over to Williamsburg, and my son found this little gem. At first, I was surprised by the location, as it is tucked away inside of a residential neighborhood. The ice tea is great. There is a surprising beer and wine and cocktail menu. Lots of great choices. We got the crab dip to start - my son inhaled it. Then, he got a shrimp po boy with onion rings. The bread on the po boy was perfect and the shrimp were perfectly fried. I got the fried green tomatoes with blackened shrimp - amazing! The best blackened shrimp ever. Finally, for dessert we shared a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie - so delicious. I was looking for a local place to eat while in the area. Based on reviews, i figured I'd give this restaurant a try. Unfortunately, we left highly unsatisfied with the food and the service. First, we made a reservation online, they were able to seat us quickly and early. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as a starter and then the Gouda smash burger as our main. The service was horrible. We couldn't find our waitress for nearly all of our meal, we had to grab another waitress and we noticed the table sitting next to us was also having difficulty getting the attention of our waitress for our section. The fried green tomatoes were average. There wasn't nearly enough dressing so they lacked flavor. We ended up asking for ranch dressing which helped the flavor. After, we tried the smash burger which we ended up not eating because of the strong taste of cumin, think taco night. Which was incredibly off putting considering the burger was supposed to have tastes of Gouda and pesto. The fries were so small that I wouldn't even consider them fries. Overall, we were not pleased with our experience. The restaurant is cute on the outside and there is lots of outdoor seating. Parking is available. Would recommend you skip this restaurant and try out something else! read more

My best friend and I were visiting Richmond for the day when most of our plans began to fall apart due to snow closures. We quickly needed to grab food before we headed back to Hampton Roads and away from the snow. We searched a couple of options but this one's reviews and menu options really stood out. We showed up without any reservation but luckily due to inclement weather we were able to get seated... at the bar. The ambience of the location is incredibly adorable and classy, but the location of the bar is almost directly in front of the front door so every time it opened you got a gust of cold air making it slightly uncomfortable. There was a heated area outside in a tent but we chose to sit at the bar instead. After we were seated the bartender approached us and asked if we were ready to order, we did ask for some suggestions between a couple of items since we were a little bit torn however because the bartender said she was new, that she's only seen the food selections and has not tried them so she was unable to provide any feedback over possible choices. I would recommend that she try the menu so she can give feedback or references to customers. She was super nice. We ordered a carafe of mimosas which we split evenly and the ham biscuits from the starter menu. The ham biscuits were a 3/5 for me personally. The ham was extra salty and tough to bite into. It could really use some sort of jam to make it not so dry. For our entrées I'll ordered the banana foster French toast and my bestie ordered the Chesapeake quiche. The French toast was delicious! I would absolutely order this again, 10/10. It did not need the maple syrup that came with it. The bacon was burnt so that didn't get eaten. The Chesapeake quiche was absolutely incredible, it tasted fresh and there wasn't a crumb left on the plate. It came with a nice little salad which was good and some fruit which was fine. Overall I would definitely come back and try other items on the menu since the entrées were so good. If i could I'd give it a 3.5 but I'd definitely lean closer to a 4 than a 3. If we had more time I would've probably sent the bacon back or not order in at all. read more

I'm so annoyed at myself for having never reviewed Hobnob in the past. I'm not sure how this review slipped through the cracks in my brain, as I've been several times and they're one of my favorite restaurants in the Richmond area. I hadn't been since before the pandemic (so at least a year) until I placed an order on Tuesday. A photo of their king cake dessert for Mardi Gras on Instagram drew me back in, and I ended up placing an order for that, the roast pork sandwich with fries, a pint of pimento cheese, and the chocolate raspberry cake. Yes, two desserts! The same as I did the first time I visited with a friend from out of town two years ago. Actually, if you scroll back in time, you'll find Stephanie S.'s review from 3/2019 that sums up our experience that day. I ordered at 11 am, which is the time they start taking orders for the day. They begin to cook at 11:30, and my meal was ready when I arrived at 11:40. The drive-thru set up is really easy. You just pull up to a table, give your name, and they bring out the food. My food had just finished getting bagged, and the 5-minute drive back to my apartment was painful -- that aroma! The roast pork was absolutely incredible and could rival some you'd find in Philly. The fries were thin and stringy, and very good. I've already eaten all the chips that came with the pimento, and I still have about half of the pint left. I had previously had the pimento burger there a couple times, so I knew it was good stuff. The cakes were also top tier. I do hope the cheesesteak makes a menu return sometime, as that was my favorite item and I had ordered it repeatedly. I'm that person who adds mayo, and I recall the kitchen loading it on. I was in heaven. I'm glad they're able to remain open and operate safely in the pandemic. I can't wait til the threat is gone and I can have another meal here! read more

Hobnob is the most charming little restaurant located right in The Lakeside area. The restaurant has a cute little bumble bee motif and opulent tin ceiling! So cute! They serve American style food. I opted for the chicken sandwhich. What impressed me most about this sandwich was how juicy the inside was !! The outside had a nice little crispiness to it and the sweet pickle was very complimentary!! Personally I like my chicken sandwiches to be a little more crunchy but this one still tasted pretty good. Yum! We stopped here before visiting the gardens and we were immediately able to be seated even without reservations. We sat outside in the uncovered part (that was the only available place, super busy even on a Thursday- just tells you how good it is!). I ordered the smash burger and fries and they were both great! The fries has just the right amount of seasoning and were crispy. Other members in my party got the poboy (they loved it and said it had more oysters than you'd expect at other places!), the green tomato Brie sandwich (also loved it and the fries), and a shrimp salad (had tons of shrimp and the dressing was great!). Wednesday 6/9/21 @8:18pm Late night dinner and so I decided on Hobnob. Never been here before and was excited because it's like 10 minutes from my house. Upon pulling up I loved the painting on the wall. I love that it has outdoor seating. (See pictures) I was immediately greeted and mentioned I wanted to eat outside. I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. I didn't realize there was about 5-6 slices, so it was a bit much for one. Unless you want to have it as a meal. As far as taste, I liked it but the sauce was missing something. It was bland. I also ordered the Shrimp and Grits. The portion was plentiful. This tasted good. I ended up taking most with me because I was full from the tomatoes. I did also order dessert. I ordered a lemon blueberry cake. It was pretty good. Again the serving size was plenty full and I took some of that home as well. I would say that this restaurant is appealing and average. It wasn't the best but it wasn't bad.
