    POLETOWN SMOKED BRAT
    Michael A.

Hockeytown is a great stop in Detroit before a game. It's located just a few blocks from the arena and feels like a perfect tribute to the city's deep hockey history. We managed to grab two seats at the bar before the game, which felt like a win on a busy night. The bartender was clearly very busy but still managed to be attentive and keep things moving, which we appreciated. I ordered the Poletown smoked brat and we also tried the grilled chicken delight. Both were really good and hit the spot before heading to the arena. Overall the place has a great vibe for hockey fans -- lively, fun, and full of energy on game day. Definitely a great pre-game stop if you're in town for hockey.

Big place. I assumed this was more of a bar as everyone said come here before a game, but it's definitely more restaurant. We sat on the rooftop and just enjoyed a beer. They were out of their Hockeytown exclusive beer. I'm not sure if smoking is allowed on the patio but people were.

In town for hockey game ,and of course you have to stop at the Hockey town Café and have a beer. This place is awesome to have a beer. Watch the game with all the Red Wings fans. They got a full bar. The beer selection is OK. I wish they had a bit better beer selection, but the food menu is basic bar food. The stuff we had was OK but to come and watch the games and have a beer and hang out with Red Wings fans. You have to do it when you're in town service was super nice A+ staff. Really cool decor inside along with the little memorabilia shop where you can buy some products really cool place to go.

Finally got to try Hockeytown Cafe, a spot I've always wanted to check out! My wife and I came here after a Red Wings game and had an awesome time. The staff was super friendly, and the food hit the spot--we especially loved the Three Little Pigs Pizza and the Mac & Cheese. Great drink selection too. The margaritas on tap were tasty, though I do wish they came with a salted rim, and I wasn't big on them being served in plastic cups. Also not a huge selection for vegetarians. The place has that classic pub vibe, but the Red Wings theming really elevates it and makes it a must-visit for any hockey or Wings fan. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area. My server Gary is in training but they're so nice and helpful. Considerate and kind, also quick. Approachable, encouraged us to get another round. Happy we came in to hang out with.

We also tried the fried chicken muffaletta sandwich and burger with tots and crinkle fries. The chicken sandwich is really tasty if you like olives, which I do. It came out on a nice seeded bun freshly fried and hot. Yum. Hubby enjoyed the burger and added bacon - they have really nice thick sliced bacon. It was cooked perfectly with a nice soft bun. I'm pretty sure the fries and tots are just frozen and presented well - at $11 and $12 for those, you might just skip those and get the meatball parm sliders because they're seriously delicious. I plan to return just for those - they're the best thing on the menu. Homemade patties and sauce; top notch. But, the crinkle fries do come with this yummy homemade malted mayo as well as ketchup, and I really enjoyed that. The tots are dusted with a spicy salty seasoning which made them maybe a touch too salty. Both of those came out super hot and crispy though, which I definitely appreciate. Overall, a very tasty meal that had care put into it. The host and server were both very friendly and our service was perfect. It's a little pricey for bar food, but at least it's good bar food, and you can't beat the ambiance for sports. Solid.

We felt like getting 2 beers each felt like a fair assessment of our projected time spent at this place and it turned out to be decently accurate. The beer list online (which I reviewed to prepare myself) was not entirely accurate. Their beer list on the wall didn't really explain what anything was so for people, such as myself, from outside the area and unfamiliar with the local breweries it was a challenge. I can see how it would be fun to come here with a group.

Fair to say the Asian Chicken Salad is good, but not great. It's a massive portion with plenty of Napa cabbage and spinach, providing that much-needed crunch. However, the grilled chicken was a bit of a letdown--it really needed more flavor and seasoning to hold its own. The saving grace and clear highlight were the spiced cashews. They actually had some personality and stood out as the best part of the dish. It's a solid enough choice if you're looking to stay on the healthy side while hanging out in a sports bar, but it's not a "must-order. Plenty of screens for sports viewing, and lots of beers on tap (obviously), staff service was good.

She's in poor health, and in the chaos of leaving home I forgot to bring something to wrap her nighttime medication in. Since TAP has turkey sandwiches on their menu, I explained that I was a hotel guest and asked if they could spare a small piece of turkey - just enough to wrap a pill in for an elderly dog upstairs. A kitchen worker (who was very nice, by the way) offered to check, but the chef refused outright. Not "this is against XYZ policy," not "we're too busy," just a flat no. I was standing right there for the entire exchange. Anyone genuinely suited to a hospitality role would have recognized this as an easy moment to generate some goodwill, but instead, the chef shut it down without a second thought. I spent a lot to stay at the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel, and this interaction left a genuinely negative impression of MGM overall. It made an already difficult day worse. I truly hope the individual who refused this request can one day recognize that hospitality is built on moments exactly like this.

I told her I would buy them, rent them, I just needed to jump on a Zoom. I jumped on anyway, I just couldn't participate the way I wanted to. The restaurant has a bar of about a dozen stools.
