The staff were so friendly upon greeting us and walked us right to our table (heads up, arrive early - it filled up so fast!) The menu is sophisticated and composed of a wide variety of options for any appetite. We indulged in some amazing fries with specialty dips, pizza, salad and Mac. This is a cool little place to get a bite to eat and a drink after any good show or a sporting event in downtown Detroit. The ambiance is set in a retro theme. A great space, vibey and energetic with two floors of dining space and lots of light throughout. Each area has some unique seating, some with couches, seating with wide open street views and lots of patio seating as well. Of course, the location is everything, right in the heart of the action and across the street from the ballpark. A couple favorites in the culinary side of things, the assembly bread is so tasty, crispy, creamy and cheesy! I enjoy the fries and chicken sliders. The pizza is also delicious. The burgers, not great. I wish they would re-work their burgers, very average and a bit dry. It's a cool place that's walking distance to the stadiums, the interior also has a fun retro vibe. The food was just ok though, I don't see myself in a hurry to return. The fries with the 3 dips were pretty good although it's a pretty small portion of fries. I got the white pizza which was dare I say TOO cheesy? It was falling off of the pizza as I tried to eat it and as far as taste, I was underwhelmed. My kids enjoyed the pepperoni pizza though, as well as the spaghetti and meatballs. Went here before a Tigers game and the wait for a table was not bad considering how busy it was for a game got a table in less than 15 minutes, our server was very busy yet was always able to check on us and make sure we had refills and our food came out very fast! It was slightly loud in there due to the music but the decorations and seating options are very fun so it seemed to fit the vibes well, we ordered the detroit style traditional pepperoni pizza with a side of their ranch, the pizza was phenomenal, their ranch is seemingly homemade and has a strong dill flavor so be wary if you're not a fan of that, I love dill so I thought it was great, will definitely make a trip back here for the pizza again! read more

This is my first time coming here and I'd definitely go again when visiting my fam in Detroit. We visited on a non game day so it wasn't busy. Our waitress was pleasant. She forgot to put in my son's order but made up for it by bringing him fries while he waited. Everyone enjoyed their food. My husband said the chicken sandwhich was a 10/10 and my oldest said his wings were 10/10. The scallion ranch that came with the wings wasn't super flavorful. We also had the chicken slider appetizers and a house salad. The sliders were filling and tasted good enough. I loved the salad, even my youngest ate half of my salad up. Good food and drinks but service speed is very slow. If you're coming here before an event, plan accordingly because you could be late. We stopped in here before a Red Wings game. The tables were about half full when we got in. For some reason we were seated upstairs pretty much by ourselves until we were about to leave when others were sat up there as well. When we sat down we were asked pretty quickly if we knew what we wanted to eat and drink which we did not yet because we had never been here before and hadn't looked at the menu yet. Our server didn't come back for about 15 minutes. The food was good though! We split a chicken parm sandwich, mac and cheese, and the fries with different truffle dipping sauces. Food took about 45 minutes to come out which was also unfortunate. After we ate we quickly paid and had to run over to Little Caesars Arena to make it for pre-skate for the Red Wings game. The tiny second floor is Mom's Spaghetti (The Trailer it is called and looks like). Along with some Botha and seating for Union still. Third floor is seat yourself: some tables, lounging areas, big bar, outdoor seating with great views. Solid drink menu with lots of cocktails, wine, beer. The menu is small but mighty with different options. Pizzas, burger, lots of apps, and even dessert. We sat at the bar on the third level and was comfortable. Our bartender was ok!? We couldn't tell if she hated us or not? Dry humor but also attentive with refilling our waters and making sure we had what we needed. She was working her butt off though, mixing drink, serving food, and taking care of most of the bar. Shared the baseline burger with my friend - it is only a 4oz burger so we got the fries and dips app to go with it. The burger was so good, Big Mac vibes. Fries are so delicious, good seasoning. The dips were good - my favorite dip was the whole grain mustard aioli. Also got chips with our burger and the chips tasted home made, so yummy. Bathrooms are single stall and a line easily forms for both women and men. Great place to come before a game or for a yummy cocktail/dinner. read more

Dined at Union Assembly with a party of six. Upon reviewing the menu, I noticed that nothing I decided on prior to visiting remained on the menu. So I played it safe and ordered a Caesar salad with grilled salmon. It was just ok for me. The dressed salad was doable after I tossed it and remove some of the cheese. However, the salmon skin was burnt, and didn't look appetizing. Perhaps they were going for blackened. The reviews from the table were mixed. A few enjoyed their meals, most didn't. One of the persons at my table ordered a burger. She sent it back the first time because the bun was rock hard. She sent it back a second time because the meat was overly salted. Perhaps it was an off night for the cooks. I enjoyed the dessert choices. The cheesecake was good and the chocolate "bumpy" cake was a ode to a Detroit treat from many Moons ago. I didn't notice enough to cause me to want to return. There weren't any menu items that turned me on. The staff seemed a bit uneasy, is the best way that I could describe them. There seemed to be a bunch of folk merely standing around. I did love the view and window watching the hustle and bustle of concert and event goers. Parking is a little tricky as there are several street parking and lot options behind the restaurant. I'd caution anyone to read the signage before leaving your vehicle. I paid $20 in a guarded lot. We had just left a show at Fox Theater and were hungry. I've been a Union member for 27 years so I thought I'd try the restuarant- just because they had "Union" in their name. I had the Corn Meal Crusted White Fish. It was only okay. Not worth $29. Neither were the fresh food I expected for the menu price. The music was horrible. I made the decision to book this spot from looking at the menu online. It's 4pm and this place isn't half full but they have an 'event' menu only. Limited drinks and food. It's quirky bar food that is not really fresh and is also over cooked. Main points, hard crust in the Mac n cheese is because it's sharp cheddar over melted. You can get a steak on a regular day but no steak on a salad or during an event. The menu has a good variety of options but I was coming here based on the menu online. I didn't see any notice that the menu would changed based on the event. Ordered an old fashioned and it is so sickly sweet idk how my husband is drinking it. The tap list is online only and our waitress did get the ok from the manager to let me order wine. We ordered the half Mac n cheese for an appetizer. It was good but no crunchy crumb toppings, just burnt sharp cheddar cheese. I should not have also ordered The White Detroit style pizza with added pepperoni. They don't have many toppings. Just what is listed as toppings on the other pizzas but I cannot bring myself to order mustard and hot dogs on a pizza. The White pizza was good though a little odd. I should have just had a salad. The atmosphere is loud though the upstairs booths are intimate. Service is good. Quirkiness does not equal cleanliness. Keep your eyes open and careful where you put your hands or your coat. Mom's spaghetti is in the same building with limited seating upstairs and downstairs. Left at 5:30 and it was packed. Glad to say we tried it. We won't be back. Less than 5 mins later, the table was ready. Place was very busy, but service was good despite that. For my meal, I ordered the double smash burger with blue cheese and a side of fries. What a disappointment. It shouldn't be hard to mess up a burger and fries, but they simply had almost 0 flavor. The burger was very basic and it just seemed off. Nothing good about it. The fries were even worse. Lacking both texture and flavor, I could only eat a couple before deciding that they were simply terrible. Credit where credit is due; the fries were enough to feed 4-6 people. Seems like they can do that because they spend no resources on the fries. I usually go to any number of their places in the Clarkston area because I live substantially closer to those locations. Knowing that they have this location downtown really made me happy, especially since it's so close to Comerica Park and Woodward Ave. I was downtown doing other stuff and needed a quick bite to eat. I saw that I was close and decided that today was the day to finally stop in! I parked around the corner and got inside to the really well decorated restaurant. the hostesses were nice but not super friendly. Kind of gave me a funny look and took me to a table. I was a hot sweaty mess, but not that hot and not that sweaty! LOL. I got seated and the menu was literally one page. Where's the rest of the food? I saw all these other pictures of sliders and different dishes from other yelpers but nothing like that on the menu? After reviewing it for a few minutes, I realized my selection was a variety of Salads, a few Detroit style pizza's and some burgers. just a handful of each. I was hoping for a bigger selection, but not today, I guess. My server was nice, and I stuck with water since it was really hot outside and I needed to stay hydrated. I went with the union burger was was a whopping $18. I got the burger and it was okay, but not comparable to what they were charging. Was it bad? NO. it was good. But I thought it was a bit steep considering the burger was good not not great. You know who has expensive burgers that are a bit better? Red Coat Tavern and anyone who has Piedmontese beef is literally my best friend. Anyway, I had a good time here and wanted to like it more. The menu needs some pep in it's step and a slight revamp. First time in over the 4th of July holiday weekend and what a treat! The space is really nice; clean, comfortable and the decor kind of gives retro vibes. The staff were are all really nice and our server gave excellent recommendations and actually engaged with us as we perused the menu. The food was outstanding! We each had the chicken parmesan sandwich and fries w/ the house made ranch and I've got nothing but good things to say about the entire dish! The chicken parm was not stringy or tough, but thin and juicy; perfectly cooked. The addition of fresh mozz and vodka sauce just tied the whole thing together and you get all of the flavors in each bit. Amazing! It did get a little messy and turned to a fork and knife type thing towards the end, but that's ok! The fries are fresh cut in house and were also perfect! Likely double fried as they had a nice crisp to them, they paired perfectly with the tangy house made ranch. I'd love to come back and try other menu items. Like most, if not all, of their affiliated locations the mac and cheese is probably killer... Highly recommended! read more

We asked the hostess, a young girl, if we could look around before deciding where we wanted to sit. She pretty much just rolled her eyes and said, "Go ahead." I'll add that she greeted us with a frown on her face. This person should be working in the kitchen, not as the face of the establishment. After we looked around and indicated we'd like to sit at the bar, she pretty much ignored us and, when asked if that would be okay, she just shrugged. Everything and everyone else was great. Union Assembly looked interesting through the window. A long well stocked bar, Detroit Pizza, Coney's, Wings etc. sat at the end of the bar where I had a view of the kitchen and pass and could also take in the dinning area. They were busy since the Pistons season opener was happening next door. It took awhile to get a menu and order a beer. This made me antsy since I was in a bit of a rush. Turned out to be a lucky break since I struck up a conversation with another customer who was waiting to order and she recommended the wings which weren't even on my radar. I ordered a salad and wings. As she started the wings are spicy, a three pepper sauce blend glazed on the winds. Most assuredly in the top 3 wings I've ever eaten. Maybe number one. read more

The Coney Island I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this concoction. The chili's definitely has a Cincy feel with the hint of cinnamon taste to it. Shortly after writing my last review, I called the restaurant to share my concerns. I spoke with the hostess, who listened to my experience and then brought the general manager on the line to address my complaint. After hearing my concerns, the general manager gave me her personal phone number and offered to reserve a table for my party and cover our entire tab if I dined in within the next five days, as long as I notified her at least 24 hours in advance. Last night, I texted her to make a reservation for today. Although she was not working at the time, she promptly had one of her managers create the reservation for me. Tonight, I dined in again. The hostess immediately recognized me and apologized for my previous experience. Our table was ready, and our server took our order within 10 minutes of our arrival. The restaurant followed through on covering our tab; the only money I paid was for our server's tip. I appreciate the general manager's efforts in listening to my concerns and making things right. read more

So it's leading into an evening at the Fox or just after a Tiger's game and you want a spot for a cocktail to kickoff or wrap up the evening, this place is in the prime location for such an event. It's cute, it's convenient and it is so "Meh" it kind of makes me sad. I have now gone three times. The first time sitting at the bar after a game waiting too long for a glass of wine. The second time, stopped there prior to the Fox. We were relegated to the "to go" area to order a drink and sent away. We made dinner reservations to go after our show. We ended up canceling, we just felt underwhelmed with our pre event experience. Third time, again after a game. Ordered their bread. Am I crazy or is it a cheese Hot n Ready from a square pan and more expensive? And thank you for no silverware and the paper cocktail napkins when we asked for napkins.
