I went to the Spring Lake location and was instantly greeted by a wonderful young lady who could tell I was new to the area as well as her store. As she told me a little about the area, we then moved onto the real star.... the homemade ice cream. They make all their own ice cream and they don't skimp on anything. So many choices and she was so kind with letting me taste some of them before making my final decisions. I ordered the large (3 huge scoops) and decided on the almond turtle, the chocolate mocha something and the chocolate espresso bean. OMG they were so delicious and totally blew my calories. Don't worry, I actually shared it with my husband. It was more than plenty. Perhaps I should have brought along another person just to help us finish it. Like I said, the scoops are enormously generous. The place itself is very clean and you can tell the locals truly love it there. If you go there, you get to scan your card and the more you go, the more rewards you can obtain. For instance, if you scan it 10 times, the 11th ice cream is free.... or something like that. The town is great and the ice cream store is a wonderful addition to the town. I'm so glad we found this place as we were driving through. We will be back for different flavors. Yummy! read more

Stopped by here for some ice cream after a beautiful beach day! My friends got the soft serve (which they said is a must try here)! They said it was very good and normally come here for the soft serve. I was craving some flavors so I got the espresso mocha chunk and black raspberry... delicious!! Satisfied all my cravings! Would come back when in the area! They have some outdoor benches that you can sit on to enjoy your ice cream and there is a parking lot! read more

Absolutely ridiculous to walk into an ice cream place to have no sense of where the beginning or the end of a line is why don't you have it wrapped around outside and have somebody directing you as to where to go and what to do . There were a lot of other good ice cream prices to go to. read more

Love this place have been here a few times! Great little gem in spring lake that is great to stop by with family or friends for a sweet treat! Ice cream is always really good and freshly made and portions are very generous! I always get soft serve when I'm by the beach and this place never disappoints! One of my favorite soft serve places in the Spring Lake area! They have some outdoor seating options which is always nice especially nowadays when there is still quarantine going on! Best ice-cream on the Jersey Shore, hands down. Great portion sizes, great service, great flavors and above all, super high quality, great mouth feel ice-cream. We drive 20 minutes from where we stay to go to Hoffman's. Soooo freakin' good. We've tried every homemade ice cream from Asbury Park to Point Pleasant and this is far and away my favorite. All of the flavors are excellent. We tried pistachio, strawberry bon bon, fudge mint cookie, peach, Monster (vanilla based ice-cream with cookie dough and Oreo) but blue like Cookie Monster, toasted coconut, and peanut butter nugget. Absolutely delicious! Came out for the beach at Sea Girt and was recommended to come here. Warning, it gets insanely crowded in the summer, but we swung by at a sweet spot around 1:45-only waited 5 min! After that, the masses came in though! So prepare to wait. Worth it though. The brownie dough Ice Cream is the best best best!!!! But unpopular opinion, I wasn't impressed with Cookie Monster. But that is probably just a preference thing. Overall, Hoffman's has deeeeelish ice cream. Honestly, probably one of the best in the State. My husband is fairly new to Jersey Shore experiences and I can't wait to bring him here. read more

The best ice cream at the Jersey Shore!! I come here frequently throughout the year and it never disappoints. So many flavors to choose from. Personal favorites are the Cookie Monster and s'mores. Giant portions--the kids cone is actually the perfect size. Tons of sundae options too. Limited indoor/outdoor seating areas and a small parking lot for a busy establishment so keep in mind. Love ending a day at the beach here! read more

Yeah Yeah I get it - I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. It's a Jersey shore summer thing and Hoffman's is an institution in these parts but that does not make them always good. We just experienced the worst soft ice cream in our lives last night. After a really bad Thai food dinner we simply had to console our selves with an ice cream treat to take home. Stopping in Hoffman's for two medium soft vanilla cups with chocolate syrup and paying a whopping $13 we expected good things when we got home. Oh well - after just one bite, we both looked at each other and exclaimed "what is this stuff" as it was not even very cold, tasted like I don't know what and did not seem to melt when we both dumped them in the kitchen sink to get rid of them, so I had to flush them down with hot running water. End of story and end of us ever considering Hoffman's for soft serve ice cream again. read more

According to my family this is the single best place to get ice cream in all of NJ! Two locations- Spring Lake and Point Pleasant. Quality is the same. Can get VERY busy in the summer (no parking, 40 minute line kind of busy) but you can go during off times and be served quickly. Some of our favorites include cookie dough, espresso mocha chunk, and black raspberry. The standards like mint chocolate chip, coffee, and chocolate chip are always good. If you are adventurous try the Cookie Monster but beware of blue lips! read more

This is by far the best ice cream in the area. The portion sizes are huge! A small can easily feed two people, or in my case... one very hungry person. Prices are very reasonable. They have so many flavors to choose from. The associates will gladly let you try any flavor you want. Fast and friendly service is always a plus here. The one negative is just how busy this place gets and the confusion that it causes. I have gone on days when they require you to take a number, similar to how a deli operates. Other times they have just used a regular line system. Personally, the number ticket system works a whole lot better here, as the lines can just confuse people too much. If you come on a Friday or Saturday night during the summer - be prepared to wait, but it's worth it! read more

I never got the hype about Hoffman's. Been there many times until I realized it wasn't me it was them. There are plenty of ice cream shops at the shore. Plus the residents of Spring Lake really do not want outsiders there. We used to dream of winning the lotto and moving there. It is much more charming than the Hamptons and has much nicer beaches. We met a friendly Spring Lake resident. He was just being honest and told us the residents would think my husband was the local take out guy. It is home made. That I will give them.The flavors are classic and basic. So besides the ice cream being over hyped it is not all that welcoming. There are better ice cream shops in the area in spite of all the hype! read more

Love coming to Hoffman's. There's a great variety of flavors to choose from and the quality is amazing. I love the coffee flavored coffee with bits of chocolate covered espresso beans but their vanilla is also great. Their shakes are also on point. The staff is always polite and the shop is clean. Best. Ice cream. Period. Hoffman's is an institution,and it's no surprise that Jersey shore residents flock there, especially in the summer, when there are crowds all night and lines that can be up to an hour long. But in the end, it's all totally worth it because Hoffman's makes incredible ice cream. So what makes Hoffman's so good? First of all, the ice cream itself. Rich and creamy, this stuff is definitely more of a premium-grade ice cream a la Haagen-Dazs and Ben and Jerry's, where there is less air whipped into the ice cream. This makes for a richer, smoother product. You won't find any of that airy, fluffy ice cream that you get from most commercial brands. Secondly, the flavors. There are your average Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee, etc, but then there are some of the more unique flavors, such as the Espresso Mocha Chunk (mocha ice cream with chocolate-covered espresso beans), Cookie Monster (cookie dough and chocolate cookie swirl), Coffee Oreo (simple, but a great combo that you don't find at many places), and, my favorite flavor of all, Mint Cookie Crunch (mint ice cream with Oreo pieces and a fudge swirl). Lastly, the prices and portions are incredible. At Hoffman's, you will certainly never get ripped off with a small portion, as the servers all do their best to cram in as much ice cream as humanly possible onto your cone or into your cup. A small is comprised of three enormous scoops, while a large has four. I made the mistake one time of ordering a large cone, and that may have been the first time that I had leftover ice cream -- seriously, a large is ridiculously big, so most people can get by with a small, which itself is quite generous. And at just about $3 for a small, the ice cream is a fantastic deal. So to put it all together, Hoffman's has fantastic ice cream in a bunch of awesome flavors that is served in huge portions at a very reasonable price. If sounds almost too good to be true, but amazingly enough, all of the above is, in fact, true about Hoffman's. Life's too short to waste eating Arctic Zero frozen dairy desserts, so swing by Hoffman's for a taste of some of the best ice cream around. read more

On the way out of Spring Lake Heights, bf and I stumbled upon this place. I asked him to stop immediately after I checked the 5 Star reviews on Yelp. Talk about helpful. :) As others have mentioned, you have to take a ticket at the entrance. There are three refrigerator with big buckets of super delicious flavors that makes it extra hard to choose from. Ugh. As I waited in line, I went back and forth to see what I was going to get. My choice was banging. I went with Coconut Joy, Maple Walnut and Black Raspberry. The portion is huge. They really fill it up. Not to talk about how inexpensive it is at the same time. As far as flavor, I found the Maple Walnut to be my top favorite.Creamy and hard ice cream full of flavor was perfect to end a day trip at the beach before heading to Philly.
