While standing in line waiting to be served we observed a server wipe her nose with her bare hand then continue to pick up a cone and serve people. Servers were also handling money and not washing hands in between. Very unsanitary like serving conditions. Bathrooms also were very dirty and soiled. Yes it's more expensive than other ice cream spots. Yes, the lines are usually longer than other places. And yes, the parking is sometimes frustrating. But Hoffman's has been getting the ice cream and service right for a long time. The "order ahead" option via the website is a no brainer - give them 30 minutes and it's waiting for you in a freezer at the pick up window. I ordered from the parking lot at the Spring Lake location and my 6-pint order was prepared in 6 minutes. At the Point, I screwed up & ordered online for that same Spring Lake locale. The staff were kind enough to call over there, cancel my order & prepare it for me so I didn't have to drive 30 minutes. We've been here countless times & will continue to go. Used to wait max 10 min here, but I walked in and took a number and was still waiting 20 minutes later when we decided to ditch. Worst part is everyone stands near the door and there is no space to move in PLUS you cannot hear the employees call the numbers. Whenever I visit my mom down the shore I always make sure to stop here. Coming here during the summer the lines are out the door, and for good reason. Every flavor of ice cream I've ever had here was delicious. So creamy and tasty, they just know what their doing. Nut Allergy Beware !!! My son got Cookie Monster and fudge mint ice cream and M&Ms as the topping. The M&Ms topping is between the chopped peanuts and walnuts. He took a few bites and immediately said there was a peanut in his ice cream. He spit it out immediately. The staff is very young. I told the girl what had happened and she looked at me with a blank stare. There was no concern, nothing. Thankfully my friend had Benadryl and he felt a little better. However in the car he threw up the little ice cream he had. We did not get ice cream flavors that contain nuts. We live in a world where many have nut allergies, even more severe than my son. It would be so easy to keep the nut toppings separate to the others. I really hope they change this immediately with this review. read more
