This is hands down the best French onion soup in pittsburgh. Well seasoned, excellent broth, and perfectly bubbly cheese. I try French onion soup whenever I see it on the menu and this is consistently excellent. Hogs also has great service and an extensive menu otherwise. My husband is always interested to go here due to a good happy hour, and my kids like the kids menu too. All in all enjoy every time we come.

I am once again late to the party on visiting another Northside Gem. Hog's Head Bar & Grill is located on the side of the road somewhere in spring garden. They have a pretty large parking lot across the street. It's a charming bar & grill and much larger than I imagined, with a large dining area room and the bar area in another room upstairs. What I appreciate about this place the most is the daily specials which are always posted to Facebook and include a few food specials as well as drinks. The portions seem to be huge and the prices are great. We came for their wing night (which is actually on Thursdays). You get 12 jumbo wings in a "hog bowl" with ranch or bleu cheese for 12.99. The honey barbecue was delicious and the wings were nice and crispy. Our server was really great and attentive. I look forward to trying more of the menu like the pizzas and salads, and the popular chicken parm. And, we will definitely be back for more wing nights!

I loved this place when visiting and staying on this side of the three rivers...Allegheny,Monongahela which form the Ohio. My son Kevin Michael and I love watching our beloved Steelers win or lose in the Steel City. Pittsburgh has more bridges than any other city in the world ...whoa' We sang happy birthday to anyone who spoke up, my son chatted up a very nice man who seemed genuinely interested in what he was saying, all the while we drank libations and told tales of yesterday's gone by :D It's a neighborhood place that has been around for a bit, food was good enough however the vibe was pure local. We'd go back :)) Thank Hogs head! You can trust us, we were both in the business ;D

My wife and I searched outside downtown Pittsburgh for a unique experience. We stumbled upon this place and gave it a shot. Wow!!! So glad we did. Such an awesome place to eat and the staff was tremendous. The food was delicious and tried Iron City Light Mango for the first time!! Next time we are in Pittsburgh we will definitely be going back. PS - parking is across the street!!

More tasty specials brought me back. I appreciate how they update their fb page daily for the specials. Today I snagged some delicious loaded Cajun bacon cheddar fries and a 4 cut pizza with crab bisque. The pizza is super old school and quality. Dive bar with great food.

Great neighborhood bar with good food. The bar sits in an unexpected location, but they have a loyal following that keeps returning because of reasonable prices and good bar food. Their draft selection is fairly small and could be improved by adding some local craft selections. I would like to see additional vegetarian options, although they do have Stuffed Portabella Caps. The staff is attentive and friendly.

I have never been disappointed after visiting Hog's Head Bar. They have a large menu and everything I have tried is full of flavor. On certain days they have specials on food/drinks. Even the plating of the food is clean and appealing. The servers are always friendly and welcoming. If you haven't been here yet, you seriously need to go! Some of the best fries and food in general. I recommend the nachos, stuffed mushrooms, or buffalo shrimp as an appetizer. And their salmon sandwich is TO DIE FOR!!

It comes with vodka sauce, Lupe's meatballs, house cheese blend, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, and fresh basil leaves. Nicely charred crust. All cheese is blended together and piped in rosettes on top of the pizza. Tastes so good and looks amazing. Walk in the front door and give your name for pickup. To the right are a couple upright cold cases filled with drinks, salad, etc. Located a short 15 minute drive from Shadyside. Can't wait to return and try more pizza.

I cannot say it is the best pizza I have had because different styles are all amazing. This is a unique style and I love it. The sauce was amazing, the ricotta cheese was so delicious and their meatballs were tremendous. What I loved was the crust - it had some chew and some tug; there was a little bit of char on the outside and the bottom. The meatballs were delicious and that sauce! The vodka sauce was perfect. I would have thought I would have missed the standard cheese on a pizza but the ricotta was super good. I placed my order on their website and it was easy; I was able to pay using my Apple Pay, which was a plus. We arrived and it was ready but we stood talking to the men in the shop and they were so kind. They asked us questions about us when they learned we had, recently, moved here. You will not find a more personable greeting anywhere.

It's on a dilapidated brick road that you essentially have to drive up at a crawl speed to prevent your car from rattling a part, and there's rarely parking. HOWEVER, somehow, this adds to the charm. The journey makes the reward that much better, I suppose. When you enter the pizzeria, it feels like how a pizzeria should. It's small and noisy, and the smells are overpowering. The staff is too busy for small talk. They're making dough (see what I did there?). I love it. The sauce is sweet, which isn't how I typically want a pizza sauce to taste, but it's also what makes their pizza so unique. You won't find another pizza that tastes like this. A plain cheese pizza from here is worth its weight in gold. I cannot recommend them enough.

We were told there would be a wait, but our pizza was ready right when they said it would be. The staff was also extremely friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Parking was a little tricky because of the location, but it was definitely worth it! The standout feature of this pizza for me was the flavor of the cheese (especially when paired with onions) that combination was easily my favorite part. They use a very generous, thick layer of cheese, which creates a rich and indulgent pizza. The cheese is quite oily and can slide off the crust, so personally the amount of cheese and oil was a little heavier than my usual preference. However, the chewy crust holds up well to the toppings, and there was still something really addictive about the overall flavor and texture of that cheese. One thing that surprised me was how good it was the next day when eaten cold. I actually prefer this pizza cold. The cheese and onions complemented each other even more, and the pizza felt a little less oily while allowing the flavors to shine even more. Overall, this is definitely a top-tier pizza place in the area. If you enjoy a flavorful, cheesy pizza with a great chewy crust, I would absolutely recommend giving it a try!

It was definitely not traditional. The sauce was very thick and almost floury. They serve it with pork belly, which does not give the same punch of flavor to cut through the sauce as guanchali or bacon. The papardelle noodle were dry and clumpy. The dish was very heavy.
