I agree with previous reviews that, this place can be a little awkward at the beginning due to the size of the dining room (particularly small) but you quickly learn that the wait staff means very very well. The service was professional and kind. The food was delicious an plentiful, and the lunch an dinner prices are incredibly cheap regarding the amount of food you get. Seriously the dinner for one could easily feed three. Other serious pluses include their drive through in case they are busy, an they take call ahead order very well and equally as professionally. The best the best the best. I don't normally eat general tso chicken but when I do I ALWAYS get it from here. It's almost like a big fried chicken Nugget dipped in sauce and you have to have the shrimp fried rice . This is about $17 but last me 3-4 days. If you're ever in this area you have to try it ! Visited Hoi Yin with the family for my 2nd visit last week and they've earned an additional star. We ate family style and ordered chicken lo mein, shrimp fried rice, and General Tso's chicken. The dishes were brought out and the amount of food was very plentiful and could easily feed 4-5 hungry adults. The service was very friendly for the dine in experience as well. The egg rolls are amazing... fried to perfection with a nice peppery flavor inside. The shrimp fried rice was very good with a decent amount of shrimp in the dish. The General chicken comes out in huge portions with each piece of chicken being good for 2-3 bites. The chicken lo mein was very tasty and had a perfect amount of vegetables so as to add to the dish and not overwhelm it. Definitely enjoyed the experience much more than last time and will certainly not wait as long between visits this time around! read more

Go to place for some good Chinese food in spring. Great portions always fast and hot. Great prices too. They're very friendly and always remember me. I've tried most around the area and this is definitely the best. Nice good chunks of white chicken, fried to perfection. I seldom dine in, but when I do the service is fair. Staff is always nice but almost always busy. They are always busy during lunch time and dinner but are open for to-go orders later which Is nice. I typically order to go, and almost always call ahead; when I do call they say it will be ready in 15-20 minutes and usually by the time I arrive it's already ready and waiting for me (I'm about 15 minutes away). Portions are pleasantly generous, especially for the price. Normally I order one of the combos and can make 3 meals out of it. Also I ask for some dishes to be made "extra spicy" and they're generally good at following through. Only one disappointment, their fried rice is bland and dry every time I've ordered it. So I just ask for steamed rice instead and problem solved. Not a fan of the soy sauce packets they provide either, but I have my own soy sauce at home and use it whenever needed. Will change review to 5 stars if they can resolve the fried rice issue. read more

I can't figure out what all the 3+ ratings are for. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where you can get GREAT Chinese food of different regions at a thousand different restaurants throughout the Greater Bay... so I can be a little critical. But I've learned to lower my expectations and not measure against what I'm used to. With that said.... We ordered "litmus test" items - chicken fried rice and beef & broccoli. The beef was good - quality meat, fresh broccoli, flavorful sauce. Yet, the chicken fried rice fell short, like a rock tossed by an infant. How can you mess up a common simple fave, you ask? It was plain, dry, and lacking ingredients. It consisted of dry, dry, dry rice and overcooked dry chicken (like it was sitting under a heat-lamp at yesterday's buffet). There was a coating of hard scrambled egg that was practically indistinguishable from the chicken. There were no other ingredients that we could see (e.g.. veggies, seasoning, wok oil). We dowsed it with soy sauce to try to revive it; but - I kid you not - the soy sauce was flavorless. It had the appearance of soy sauce, but it tasted like brown water. It had no savor; not even saltiness. Very odd... Anyway. After we used all of the soy sauce and could not bring our rice back from the dead, we gave up. Unfortunately, we did not have any sauce in our cupboard either, so we had to give it to the dog (with a full bowl of water, of course). The service was friendly though we will not go back because there just has to be better Chinese food somewhere nearby. Food was okay, service was horrible. I decided to go with my boyfriend since he likes it there and I hadn't gone in years but used to take out from there. There's only one waiter there- this bitchy Asian lady...one of the rudest waiters I've ever gotten. She hesitated when I asked her to put less ice in my water cause I had a cold. While waiting on our soups, a customer was complaining to the cashier lady about how rude and inconsiderate they were and I actually had some sympathy for them...until later. For our soups, my bf seemed to get a generous portion but I got wonton soup with only ONE wonton. Wtf? When she brought out our food I asked her for extra napkins cause they only give you one and she rolled her eyes and took off. The food wasn't as good as I remembered it. :( While we ate, another family came in and when ordering they asked what she'd recommend off the menu and she remarked "I just told you, everything's good!" And towards the end of our meal she came and offered/poured my bf some water and didn't offer me squat!! Needless to say she got no tip from us and I won't be going back in another very long time. I don't see how my bf liked that place so much, but he too will be staying away after the way the waiter treated me. I'll still give them 2 stars for the food though. read more

The food is actually really good, however ordering is a complete nightmare. The staff is ALWAYS so rude to my husband...every time.... not sure why. He usually ends up passing the phone to me so I can give them our order. The minute my group of 5 walked in we were swept into seating and had all our drinks in 5 minutes. We asked the folks for some authentic dishes. They snickered at us and told if they had certain of the dishes we requested it would scare if there American customers and they would have to shutdown. I've been looking for a place in the area that has great Chinese food, and this was not it. I ordered steam dumplings and what I received was a Styrofoam container filled with a lot of gummy pasta sheets with a small spot of meat in the middle. The 2 combination dinners I ordered come with soup, however, their idea of Wonton Soup is a singular wonton floating in hot water. The Lo Mein was not authentic either. They used spaghetti not Lo Mein noodles. The sauce was very weak, and then the friend rice was not cooked enough and crunchy in spots. I was given Sweet and Sour chicken in 2 orders with 1 small thimble sized container filled with Sweet and Sour sauce to put in the chicken. So, I guess the quest continues. I am not looking for anything crazy, just authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price. Is that so hard to do? read more

This little place is right across from the Target on Cypresswood. I like Chinese food so I decided to give it a shot as I was in the area. The place is very unpretentious, not very big or fancy - but boy they serve some very tasty food. Their lunch specials include a LARGE portion entree and come with an egg/spring roll and choice of soup (egg-drop, won ton, perhaps others). It costs about $6, and you will not go away hungry. I may be wrong, but it seems this place is family-run, and if not, they work together well like a family. Not much more to say; this place is a hidden little hit. The food here is good and reasonably priced. I like to get the Cantonese chow mein but I have tried many of their other items. The reason I give 2 stars is because of how bad their service is. Every time I order takeout here, they say it will be ready in 15 minutes. In many cases, it takes around 25 to 30 minutes to get my food. They are very greedy with the hot sauce that they keep in the cooler in the front. My other complaint is that the 3 waitresses that are usually working are not very nice. In fact they are kind of mean. They are 3 older women. The other day, I went here and asked "what is included in this dish?" She seemed annoyed and did not want to answer and just wrote it on the paper as if I was ordering it. I had to ask her again, then she told me what it included. When we ordered water with lemon, they brought water but no lemon, and I had to call her to refill my water twice. Best general Taos chicken ever here and don't like the look of the place outside keep you from venturing in. I have been eating here for years and never had any problems. I don't think they have ever messed up an order even. The generals chicken is in a spicy thick brown sauce with veggies like carrots but there isn't a bunch of those the chicken is the star. It is always tender and juicy I love it. The lunch special is a steal a big portion of the chicken a side of rice egg roll and a cup of soup. The service is always good and so is the food.
