I always enjoy coming to this coney island with an upscale feel because: the food is delicious and the people are wonderful! They have the best chicken noodle soup, tzatziki sauce which I love to dip my fries in. My server, Jacqui, also brought me a Greek dressing to try with my fries (like she does) and it was delicious too! "It's made with some beet juice that's why it's pink." It had a bit sweeter taste, but fresh and I was also spooning some onto my gyro. But no matter who is my server I always receive: professional, friendly and attentive service. All staff are this way, from welcoming you walking in, clearing tables, refilling drinks and cashing out, they're focused on you enjoying your visit. Holiday Grill Coney Island is a nice place to dine for good comfort food. We ordered lemon rice soup which was served hot and tasted like it should. Then we had the fish & chips. They gave a generous 3 piece portion on our plates. The fish was not overly breaded and not a bit greasy nor were the fries. The tartar sauce is made in house and went very nicely with the fish. Service was with a smile and the servers came to check on us several times to see if we needed anything. The place was very clean and had a lot of regulars coming in. This place has the best Greek dressing! It's the pink stuff and I always get extra. I've had a couple of things from here and have no complaints. Their fried chicken dinner is really good, and their chunks of chicken with onions and peppers with rice is really good. The red sauce that comes with it is delicious! read more

Food was just plain bad. I paid $15 w tip for the American meat omelet w American cheese, added sausage gravy. I did order this breakfast meal at about 1PM so maybe that makes a difference, but the hash brown were obviously from earlier that morning and were old, black, dark brown, over done, they had been sitting a long while was my guess... the omelet was dry but the american cheese did help soften it a bit. Sausage gravy wasn't my kind of sausage gravy... very strange taste, so I couldn't even use that to add flavor to the meal... that's bad if gravy cant make it taste good... Just overall bad. Nothing fancy about this establishment- but when you go to a diner I dont want fancy! I want quality, reliability, consistency- which Holiday Grill has all of. The kitchen staff are quick and servers are attentive... my food came out within 15 minutes of ordering! And it was amazing. Soups are all made in house and have that homestyle diner taste. The coney island dogs here were plentiful and huge. They were filling to the point I think next time I'll just order one. They have a wide variety of food here, not just coney dogs. We tried the fried mushrooms, as well as the onion rings. They were both good choices. The value is stellar. The mushroom appetizer actually wound up costing more than the 2 coney dogs. The server We had was very prompt and friendly. The inside is bigger than expected. It has seating at the counter, plus booths and tables. The husband and I have stopped here a few times for breakfast, since our beloved Dearborn Coney switched ownership and just isn't the same. Everything seems clean in an old-school diner kind of way. The service is always friendly. Food comes up quickly, even if the restaurant is full. We've only ever ordered breakfast, but everything we've had has been tasty with the only exception being their breakfast sausage links. They have a flavor neither Jacob or myself was into. They serve hearty toast. I also really love their hash browns (well-done of course) and have to say their pancakes were excellent, too. Their breakfast ham is made by Dearborn Ham and is so good! Jacob enjoys their coffee, which we saw is fresh-ground in-house. This is perfectly acceptable family diner to stop in for a quick, filling breakfast. read more

The chicken in the chic kabob dinner is cooked perfectly. Most Arab restaurants overcook the white meat of the chicken. This place makes it perfect., not dry at all. My husband likes dark meat so he never has any issues, because dark meat does not dry out like white meat. So, happy, happy, happy, am I. Today was my first visit to Holiday Grill, and I'm so happy I went. I bet more than half of the customers were regulars, as nearly every time someone walked in, one of the waitresses said hello and called them by name. Even as a newcomer, I was greeted warmly and received great service. If the small town, mom & pop feel of the place wouldn't bring me back, the prices would. The breakfast special came with two eggs, three sausage links (or choice of ham or bacon), three medium sized pancakes (or your choice of hash browns or tomatoes), and two pieces of toast, and it was only $3.29! The eggs were cooked perfectly, the sausage links were great, and the pancakes were standard Coney fare (a little "chewy," but good). I don't really understand the high reviews. This place does a whopping business and is crowded beyond their means. My experiences here were not stellar. The hostess was complacent, service slow, food sat in the window a long time. Location is good and prices are good. Restaurant is reasonably clean and priced. 10 bucks for lunch total. Coneys are ok. I watched the owner berate an employee which looks bad. Perhaps I missed something but I just wasn't wowed. Very windowy and lots of booths is a plus. I've only ever been in the morning, so I can't comment on lunch or dinner menus, but I can tell you this is a great coney for breakfast. I wouldn't say anything really sets Holiday apart, but they do the classics very well. Dearborn ham, nicely grilled hashbrowns, hearty toast, savory biscuits and gravy. I don't care for the link sausage, but everything else is a-ok! The coffee is freshly ground and pretty solid for a coney. Staff is always smiling and bustling and eager to refill your drink. Prices, especially during breakfast special hours, are more than reasonable. read more

My wife and I patronized this establishment more than 30 years. On Saturday evening, August 20th we decided to order carry out. She decided on the Holiday Grill Salad with Grilled Chicken. Incidentally the price of this salad has gone up in cost significantly. When my wife opened the container the salad had brown lettuce and had an unpleasant taste. She called to report her experience and was told to bring the salad to be "swapped". When I arrived to the restaurant the manager opened my container and responded "I'll swap out the lettuce but not the entire salad. If I did that I'd go out of business". It was apparent to me that my customer loyalty was irrelevant to him. The Holiday Grill for us isn't interested in customer satisfaction but their bottom line. Needless to say we will not return and would appreciate any recommendations of other area diners. read more

I have made orders here multiple times. I usually pick up breakfast on my way to work. The food is decent and the prices aren't bad. I cannot and will not be eating from here anymore. I have witnessed the cook prepare and touch food with bare hands. I sat and watched as he touched his hair, bread, nose, and was even on his phone. You know how dirty your phone can be?? He continued to cook after consistently coming into contact with stuff that could contaminate food with bacteria and germs. I'm disappointed not only in how the food is cooked and handled, but because I enjoyed their breakfast and it was very convenient on my into work, but my health is more important. There is more about this place that I didn't like than what I did like. Good thing there are other Coney Islands in the area that I can go to. When I ordered the pancakes they came out about the size of a mason jar lid, the bacon was undercooked and the coffee was unsatisfactory. So, I have been regularly going to Holiday Grill for 15 years. My wife and myself for the last 9 years. Almost 100% for breakfast. I stopped by this morning to have my usual breakfast. I sat at the counter. Food was as good as always. So, I always ask for a bit of grilled onions in my hash browns. (Tablespoon at most). When my waitress gave me bill, the total seemed a little high. Looked at itemized order and saw that I was charged .80 cents for the onions in hash browns. My waitress was standing right in front of me and I said that I have been coming here for 15 years, and have never been charged for onion in my hash browns. She said she was really sorry, and pointed to the older man standing next to me, and said that it is his (Owner) fault. So I explained to him about the .80 cent charge for onions, and that I have never been charged for them. Well he looked at me and just plain said "If you don't like it, you can go somewhere else" I was floored! Instead of maybe explaining to me, due to his costs, that he had to raise price of onions. All I got was "If you don't like it...." Well Mr Owner, you just lost two long time loyal customers. My waitress, along with another one, followed me out and apologized up & down. I found this to be one of the best little places in Dearborn to get breakfast. It's very inexpensive $ I always get the farmers omelette it's a pretty good size and it tastes great. Comes with hash browns and toast. They have a variety of things you might want and quality of food has always come out good. The staff is very nice, they make you feel right at home. The setting of the place could use a little work. It does feel a little oldish but it's nothing bad. (I am referring to the type of restaurant, not the coney dog) Holiday is one of those rare places where the stars align and all the elements of a good coney island are consistently present. The menu is what we're used to around here in a Greek Coney Island. I have never had anything I didn't like, from chili dogs to fries to Greek salad. The food is fresh, well prepared, and reasonably priced. I have one issue, and it is a really small one. The ketchup on the table is not a brand I recognize, and it is too sweet for me. The waitstaff is really wonderful, and even if there is a crowd, you wont wait long for your food. I love that they are family owned/operated, which makes the food consistently good. read more
