I get it, the place is a local institution. If it was a person, it would be one only a mother could love. I didn't like it at all. We ended up here because I was with someone from the area who said you HAD to go to Coney Island. It's a greasy spoon diner with not very good food. I probably should have just gotten a hot dog instead of the turkey and cheese sandwich I ordered. Many things seem to be sold individually (for instance, we had to buy fries separately if we wanted them). Prices weren't horrible (I think my sandwich and fries was ~$7-8?), but still felt overpriced since the food wasn't all that great. The fries were ok though. Service was fine. But the service wouldn't get me to come back. If you have some sort of sentimental connection to this place, by all means go... but otherwise it's a place to skip. read more

I was craving an omelette this morning and not all places actually know how to make it the right way sadly. i.e mixing the omelette veggies and meats into the egg creating a egg pizza that's overall dry and stuff lodged in it, yuck! But not hereeee ! I ordered a western with chili and onion rings and it was all perfect, and very quickly prepared. They're also so courteous and thoughtful with bagging your food. They made sure all items were in the bag including sauces jellies, S&P, and silverware and some take home menus. NOT what you get at an L George's usually. Most L George's I've been to have been filthy, rude, aggressive and disrespectful, I once saw the cook in the back with a cigarette in his mouth at the Redford location, not even kidding, how gross I couldn't order anything after that. Sorry not sorry , L George's YOU SUCK. The Lady who took my order Over the phone today was very nice and did everything right. I love that they're so close and convenient to me. This is hands-down the best breakfast I've ever eaten. Ever. Seriously. Jacob and I have been about 5 times since we moved into Dearborn. The first time we went, we both ordered the French toast special. This menu mainstay includes two pieces of the most deliciously cooked French toast and two of each of the following (!!!): eggs, fresh bacon, seasoned sausage links and tender ham. This is such a HUGE breakfast for the reasonable price of $4.95. My favorite thing about this place? Not the crazy amount of food I get for basically nothing. Not even the fact that I think the French toast is infused with crack because I can't get enough of it... It's the consistency! Each time I've visited, I've ordered the exact same thing, and it's ALWAYS good. I've never had to send anything back, or complain to the waitress about something not being very good. That speaks volumes to me as a customer. Try this place... try their French toast special. It's simply amazing... I can't say anything better about the breakfast this restaurant serves. I having coming here for years since my daughter dances next door. I loved their spicy chicken Greek salad which is on their menu. But since one of the main cooks Jon left a couple of years ago it is touch and go as far as the spicy chicken but now they don't have it at all. I have been asking this short older stocking man if he going to get it back and the wait staff say they keep asking them to order it but it's a no go now for almost 2 months. If I wanted a plain chicken Greek salad I can go to any Coney Island that is closer to where I live instead of driving here for a plain chicken. read more

ATMOSPHERE: 4 stars It was a Saturday morning and when I arrived, parking was plentiful. Upon entering I snagged myself a booth. The place felt like a mom and pop and operated like mom and pop. The lady who took my order seems to be the owner because the groups of customers who seemed to be regulars called her by name although I couldn't hear what her name was. She was very friendly as were all the other staff. The place reminded me of a 50's diner/green fused diner. Regardless the place was clean cozy. There were booths for up to 4 people, tables, and counter seats. FOOD: 4 stars Menu was pretty extensive. I was deciding between the omelettes, french toast, and one of the hungry man's breakfast but in the end, I decided to get the corned beef hash with 2 eggs, toast and jelly for $6.25. The food came out fairly quick and just the way I wanted it. Eggs were cooked over medium and the corned beef hash wasn't too salty. It was just perfectly savory. The rye toast was actually really good. I usually never eat my toast but those toasts were awesome! I felt like it was a lot of food for me to eat at one sitting but I am excited to eat the leftovers for later after all that walking at the museum. While eating, the server will put your check on your table and after you are finished, you can bring it to the counter to pay and go. OVERALL: 4 stars I think this is a great diner to stop by for some great food for a great price. I think I saw that this is open 24 hours and that breakfast is served all day. I love me some breakfast at any time. I could eat pancakes for dinner every night of the week and be a very happy girl. So, I was thrilled to see that Dearborn Coney Island rocks the breakfast at any time menu. I was onto a good start. The interior of the place has seen better days. My booth seat was ripped up and taped over, it could use a nice deep clean, etc. But I'm ok with that. I am not anti a tasty dive! But if you're weary of such things, be prepared. The service was top notch. Our waitress was on the ball and brought me my diet Coke almost as soon as I ordered it. I had heard good things about the french toast here on Yelp so I went with the basic two egg breakfast (two eggs with hashed browns) and one slice of french toast. A little sweet, a little salty, and a super mega cheap! I was enjoying a business lunch and my counterpart ordered a club sandwich. The meals were both out lickety split. When we were checking out the gentleman behind the counter ringing us up was really nice and friendly as well. I had warm fuzzies leaving. My eggs were cooked perfectly overmedium as I had asked, the hash browns were my favorite kind--shredded potatoes, crispy on the outside, soft inside. They weren't anything that particularly unique or unbelievable but they were a great standard that fulfilled my eggs and potatoes craving. The french toast was great. It was a nice thick slice of Texas toast, soaked in a nice buttery, custardy breading and fried perfectly. This is the antithesis of anything healthy but for an occasional indulgent breakfast treat it's not a bad call. How could you not come in to dine at a Coney Island when visiting the greater Detroit area? Sacrilege, I say! That would be like going to Texas without eating beef or going to New England without eating "lobstah" or "chowdah"! This particular Coney Island, in Dearborn, did not disappoint at all. Thanks fellow Yelpers! We're hard pressed to think of another breakfast place we've liked more than Dearborn Coney, but I just couldn't go 5 stars. We scored a booth. Hot coffee and refills were prompt. Our food came out in, I swear, 5 minutes. BUT if we hadn't gotten one of the three booths in this relatively small place then we would have had to sit at the solitary strangely placed round table or on a stool at the counter. That might be why I'm stingy with that last star. It worked out perfectly this time, but next time... who knows. Ken loves French Toast. That's how I lured him here. The FT special is everything those other Yelpers are screaming about. Excellent value for the money. His only gripe was no toast to go with the eggs. Its a cheap add-on, so no biggie. I got the omelet with sausage gravy on it. I'm usually a fan of mushrooms, but I didn't care for them in this omelet. Otherwise, I'd recommend the dish. What can I say?! I was lured by the other posts too. And I have to start by saying, "Thank you." The french toast special was to die for. As you've stated; it's a small place and not fancy by any means but the food was perfect. Everything was excellent. The meats were delicious and high quality. The french toast was so moist and buttery. The eggs were cooked to order and well seasoned (pinch of salt and pepper). The waitress was super friendly and very attentive. The cook was right in the middle of the room behind the lil' diner area and he was really polite too. The food was quality for sure. One thing that I don't think was mentioned (and to me is very important) is........THEY SERVE BREAKFAST ALL DAY! Best news ever since I like to sleep in on my Saturdays. I like to go t local places to work. I went to this place and found it to be dirty and basically empty. I asked if they had WiFi and the cook and waitress looked at me like I was speaking another language. Simply put: the best breakfast ever. I told Allison this morning when we ate there - for about the fifth or sixth time since we moved to the area - that I could be perfectly happy eating breakfast there for the rest of my life. The french toast special is a complete meal of FT, two pieces each of three types of meat (the sausage and ham are the best I've had), and eggs, which I discovered today can be sub'd for hashbrowns... All for under $5. The place has that nostalgic diner feel that I'm so very fond of, with more bar stools than booth seats. The icing on the cake is that they accept credit cards! I avoid cash like the plague, so it's comforting to be able to stroll in for a diner breakfast without first having to hunt down an ATM. As far as I'm concerned, I'll spend the next several hundred weekends of my life enjoying breakfast at Dearborn Coney. read more

Solid breakfast joint. Decent prices. It's got no bells and whistles at all. I probably wouldn't even dine inside the place. But for takeout it's one of the better coney islands in the area. Don't know much about the waitstaff because I don't eat in. But the little interaction I do have is always pleasant and good service. They even will bring it out to your car if it's not ready yet. Went back today. Ordered a chicken greek salad. Sat and watched the cook. He grabbed raw chicken out of marinade, put on the flattop/grill, then washed his hands. Nicely done. A few minutes later, he shaped three large balls of raw ground beef into burgers before putting them on the cooktop. He then went straight to a head of lettuce, took it out of a plastic bag, ripped the core out with his raw meat hands before using a knife and his hand to chop it into pieces for my salad. Yeeech. Cooks hair throughout both of our meals. On my girlfriend returned hers. We sat 5 feet from the cook and all he did was complain and throw stuff around. Very unprofessional. Very disappointed in this place. Being vegan I asked if the veggie pita vegetables were grilled in butter or oil. They replied letting me know that it was mix of both. When I asked if they could just make it will the oil and no butter they refused to do so. The waitress then told me she could have them make a "Greek" pita with basically a Greek salad in a pita minus feta of course. I got the pita in front of me and it was raw onion, green pepper, and mushrooms. So, basically everything that the grilled pita would have had just not grilled...I sent it back and asked for the pita that the waitress had offered me and the man making the food said he wasn't going to make it...so I ate the fries that I ordered because they were vegan and I left. Will never return here. Rude, confusing, and unwilling to meet halfway with the customer. read more

Coffee was also decent. Add hot sauce to the omelette and hash browns to give them an extra kick of deliciousness. OVERALL: I came for breakfast at around 9am on a Sunday and seats were about half filled. Service was quick and courteous. Water and coffee cups were always topped off.
