Pros: -Lots of parking available -Clean hotel, well maintained -Welcoming friendly staff -Safe environment -Has pretty fountain outside infront of built in restaurant to the hotel -Palm trees and pretty flowers outside -Great lighting in bathroom Room has a vanity with pull out stool. It has a table with a chair, tv worked great with lots of channels, and also has a mini fridge and coffee station and microwave. Rooms were clean, very comfortable bed and pillows, had a sunshade and dark room curtains which is nice. 7am-10pm Pool Hours Restaurant is open til 10pm 6am-10am Breakfast Restaurant Style Some things to note: -No hair dryer -You have to call front desk if you want your room cleaned while gone. I probably wouldn't stop to stay here again. This was a mid-way stop during a road trip home. Parking is fine. Hotel staff weren't rude, but weren't nice either. Just "blah" with no character. The room was a closet with nearly no room to stretch out compared to other Holiday Inns. They forgot to Thanks us for being members. They only give you two KCups and low brow brands at that. They don't have a bench outside to rest which actually upset another traveler as well. The door to the toilet makes it impossible to sit on the toilet and the bathroom sink is in the living space. The room was clean so that's a bonus. I don't have much to say. It was just.....lackluster....and I know it's a Holiday Inn but we've been to way to many of them and this was close to the most boring and let down experience of one I've seen. If you're looking for a clean room, this is fine. Just don't expect much else. read more

A stop on our road trip that welcomes dogs and is right off the freeway--those were our criteria. It was clean. Staff was polite and friendly, and a restaurant with long hours and to-go or in-room dining available, but no outside dining. We had dinner and breakfast there--both were good. Salmon was excellent, the green beans were plentiful and cooked nicely. The salad with prawns was fantastic. A note--everything has a generous amount of garlic. If that's your thing, you're in luck. If not, now you know to request less. The room was small, bordering on cramped, for two adults and a dog. It was clean, but tough to maneuver around one another when trying to get showered, dressed, and packed. Our dog loved the bed, but we thought the pillows were way too lumpy. The shower was great! When I travel, I want a good night's sleep, hot tea (lots of it), and.great shower. The shower added a star. The towels were thin and small, but adequate. read more

You really have to wonder who designed the rooms of this $200-a-night hotel. The bedroom is cluttered with a mish-mash of useless tables, mirror hutches and cabinets that make it difficult to move around the bedroom. The 'bathroom' sink is outside the shower/toilet room, making it tedious to shave and get ready in the morning. But the capper to this over-priced room is the tiny piece of soap provided for hand washing and shower. Better bring your own soap and shampoo! read more

The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating however there was such a strong smell of weed. I had an early meeting and was up at 5am only to find a group of people smoking right outside of one of the stairwells. It carried through the entirety of the stairwells through the hallway and into the rooms. Also breakfast was not included, although they did have a microwave and Keurig in the room. Maybe they would be better on another day but it just seemed a bit below average for me. read more

This hotel is literal garbage. Upon arrival, we were given a room in the basement overlooking the parking lot. The bathroom had a strong odor of urine and the elevators didn't work. That's not to say they were "out of order" but it seemed to be apparent that the hotel was aware the elevators were not functioning properly but still allowed guests to ride them. The darkening shade on the window was broken and we were unable to adjust it come morning time. Additionally there was visible debris on the carpet. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

Would not recommend- Giving a 2 because the staff was very kind and accommodating however the property was not staffed enough to keep it clean enough (especially during COVID). If you are going to be open during the pandemic make sure you are staffed enough to clean your amenities and the areas people are traveling in. We got assigned a room that had not been cleaned and the window looked damaged. They gave us a new room and upgraded us from a queen to king. We got dinner at the restaurant next door and went to bed. The next day we were looking forward to using the amenities (pool and jacuzzi) we went down and the area was extremely dirty - I went to use the bathroom. No soap, the ceiling was falling apart and the bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in some time. The jacuzzi was FULL of sand and absolutely disgusting. The pool has bathing suit wrappers, gum, soda cans, etc all over the place and it was 1:00 PM (should have been cleaned from the night before by then). Upset with our experience we checked out early and thankfully were refunded the second night with no problem. If you are going to be open during a pandemic make sure you are staffed enough to clean areas such as pools, hallways, bathrooms regularly. Hotel is nice - more than what we were expecting for a Holiday Inn. The lobby is bright and cheery and so was the front desk staff. Room was fine - nothing special, but it was clean. They put us in a room in the basement, which they tried to tell us was an "executive" room - not sure what that means, but we didn't really feel very special being on a lower level. Especially after I had asked for a "high-level room" and "room away from the elevator," it was the exact opposite. Oh well, the hotel fit the bill for the night. Added bonus that it has a Margaritas attached to the hotel and kids eat free when you stay! read more

I stay in hotels quite frequently and this was one of the best stays I've had. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and very well appointed. All the staff I had the opportunity to interact with were all super friendly and went out of their way to make sure anyone was happy. I'll be back for sure! read more

The rooms aren't stocked with any soap because they are out. Pretty gross that no one here can wash their hands in the middle of a pandemic...but, supply chain issues I can understand. The real problem is that they didn't tell me this afternoon when I checked in (and could have done something about it). The room itself was clean so no complaints. We had a pet friendly room and it worked great. The girls at the reception desk were very nice and helpful as well. I believe the manager, an older gentleman, was fake and did not care that our stay at his hotel was unpleasant. There were people moving furniture or doing gymnastics in the surrounding rooms all hours of the night, and some couple having a huge fight next to our room and the hotel did nothing about it. It sounded like they were throwing all their furniture against the wall or someone was being beat up! Also, I was shocked when I arrived to the lobby and saw large groups of people standing close together not wearing their masks on more than one occasion! This is the reason we cannot get rid of COVID-19, even though there were signs all over stating masks are required indoors. I have NEVER been to a hotel that charges you for your room at check in. They said a $50 deposit would be taken from my account and they charged the full almost $400 at check in! Has anyone else had that happen at a hotel? At check out I told the manager this first impression and experience in Salem was awful. The manager was so rude when I told him that the full room charge, and not being able to sleep at all the 3 nights we were there, ruined our entire trip. Coming from working at a hotel myself, I expected better service. I am very disappointed with the quality of concern for their guests. Knowing there was possible domestic violence occuring next door and not one hotel staff member taking any action seems like they do not care about the safety of their guests. Told hotel at booking and check in that we were unsure about the length of our stay. Our daughter in law was having a baby, and we didn't know exactly how long that would take. Definitely staying two nights, possibly three. Well after two nights they said we had to leave. They had overbooked, and we had to check out. No notice or anything. Forced to find a new hotel at a moment's notice. The hotel was horrible anyway ... No hooks or racks to hang towels, no luggage racks, no makeup mirror, no hand lotion, no complimentary water, no glasses, plates, or silverware in their kitchen area. Couch was painfully uncomfortable. They don't clean the rooms, empty the trash, or vacuum during your stay. Avoid at all costs. read more

Hello,I encountered a filthy hotel pool at the Salem Holiday Inn the other day and sent an email to their corporate office advising them of the deplorable condition along with some photos. This is the response I got from their general manager. I"m on the fence about how to respond to you. You are NOT a hotel guest, but have been given the privilege of being a "pool member". With that said, your complaint should have come directly to me. It says in your complaint that you spoke with management about your concerns - but you never spoke with myself or Steve, our chief engineer. I spoke with Steve and he is on top of the pool conditions. The chemicals are spot on and the chlorine is a bit higher than normal. The cloudiness is because he scrubbed the sides of the pool to get the residuals off and they are still mixed into the water creating cloudiness. As long as he can see the bottom skimmers the pool is allowed open - by law. However, since you voiced your complaint we have now closed the pool. I have half a mind to rescind your pool membership as this is not the proper way to handle a complaint, by going over our heads to IHG and not giving us an opportunity to explain and educate you on its operation. Especially since our focus is on our paying guests and not pool memberships. In the future should you have any issues with any of our pools or hot tub, you need to speak with me directly to resolve. read more

What a horrible experience!!! Had reservation for one night. They had a event going on in their lobby. No one was wearing mask and it was posted everywhere. Spoke with the manager about it and she told us they couldn't enforce. They did not appreciate us questioning and told us they were going to call the police and have us kicked out. We decided to leave, they wouldn't give me a refund. Went down the street to the Hilton. Do not give them your business. They care more about money than health. read more

Worst service I have ever had from a 3 star hotel. When i got to the hotel I was told they wouldn't honor my reservation, didn't have a manager available, and didn't offer relocation for cancelling my reservation without notice. They cancelled the reservation because I booked when the rates where in the 147 range and hotel prices in salem increased to over 250 due to the heatwave. By cancelling my reservation I am sure they were able to sell the room at a higher price to someone else. I would never recommend this chain to anyone looking for a room. Hilton's chain is more accessible and helpful. read more

I booked the Canobie Lake package for $184 (a little steep if you ask me) but with the other reviews of the hotels in the area I was willing to spend the money for one night at a repitable hotel. The room was spacious and clean (other the one garbage can not being emptied). They offer Bath and Body Works products, which I know doesn't dry my skin out like most other cheap hotel products. My guest and I had too much fun at Maragritas after Canobie Laek and asked to have a later check out the next morning. The woman at the front desk was very understanding and offered it at no extra charge. I might be willing to stay here more if it a bit cheaper, for now I might look around and try a few other places for a few less bucks to test their reviews. P.S ice machines and vending machines are only on floors two and four. read more

Went here for a wedding just last weekend. I rented 3 rooms. 1 for me and my husband one for our three children ranging from 17 1/2 to 3 and one for my mom and father. I inspected all three rooms and all three rooms were not to satisfaction. although they had a sticker that said they did extra cleaning and we're going by the state guidelines for COVID-19 the sinks were dirty beds weren't tight and there was hair in the bathroom tubs. some of the tubs I seen didn't even look as though they were cleaned at all. The first night we were there I found that there was a guy wandering around from door to door saying that he was taking the stickers off the doors which are the Covid signs because he wanted to play with them. I found that to be quite odd and I called downstairs to the front desk and they informed me that he was not a guest there. there was no security available that night but thankfully the next night there was security. The hotel seems to be shortstaffed and it was apparent that they were not expecting the load of occupants in the hotel. so maybe that was why it wasn't up to its fullest potential of cleanliness. also I found that the front desk staff was also shorthanded or short staffed because when I was requesting towels etc. for the pool or for our hotel room they had to literally go and get them themselves and bring them up to us while still trying to check in other customers. It is my hope that they hire more staff and be more vigilant of their cleaning procedures especially at this time we live in. read more

Ok, ok, ok. You first must accept that this is a chain hotel. I'm purely rating this hotel against its full blooded siblings... Other Holiday Inns (& HIEs) in the Southern NE region. I'll go over the cons first. Cons: The iron in my room was possibly the most worn out iron I've ever used. I couldn't read the dial and the hot plate was covered in scratches and sediment. Very few power outlets in my room. I requested a fridge and microwave, if they were available. I was told they weren't. A few minutes after getting into room a microwave arrived. I asked about the fridge. It was going to come once available. In the meantime the only place to put the microwave was on the desk. I didn't object figuring that the proper base (mini fridge) would arrive while I was at dinner. Unfortunately this did not happen and I was without a work surface for the night. Also- without the fridge I don't have any use for the microwave. While I'm happy they could partially accommodate my special request I wish it had been the fridge if I was only going to get one item. Pros: Nicest lobby, by far, in this brand. I never even thought I cared about hotel lobbies. This one was very nice and well laid out. It's bright with lots of places to meet, work, and relax. There's a full-on Mexican restaurant attached to the hotel. Once inside, you would NEVER know you were in a restaurant attached to a hotel. Staff were all very pleasant and I interacted with at least 6 people. No one seemed miserable or unprofessional. I was told that the rooms are scheduled for a remodel in 2016. My room seemed extremely well kept up. This honestly blew me away. Way to go taking care of the place HI! Of course the bathroom ceiling is always the worst of a room and it was no different here. Eh- what can you do?! There were 2 pools. The outdoor pool was nicely shaped (more shape to it than a kidney), landscaped, and set away from the building enough so that people in the higher rooms aren't peeping at pool goers. Aside from the lack of a free continental breakfast, I could have easily been fooled into thinking this was a fairly new HIE rather than an old HI. Well done Holiday Inn Salem. Well done. read more

A bit surprised by the room I was given. I am an IHG platinum member and have a high-floor preference but was given a 1st floor room. No worries though because this room was amazing. The separated bedroom from the living quarters was perfect! The mini kitchenette and fireplace were truly unexpected additions. The pool/hot tub area was clean but lacking towels so we needed to get towels from the fitness center. No biggy. There's a great restaurant within walking distance called Black Water Grill. A classier style restaurant with amazing food. There's also a Dunkin Donuts within walking distance and Michaels Deli Market as well. And A&A which is a breakfast joint. More great restaurants nearby at Exit 1 on Broadway. A short drive and a bunch of choices. read more

The hotel was nicely done and clean. Indoor pool was great but hot tub wasn't warm, which was a bummer. Check-in and check-out was quick and easy, our room was exactly as expected and our housekeeper was wonderful in fulfilling a few of our requests. The breakfast was ok. I will say for the free kids breakfast, the servings were large and filling which was great. The adult meals were just ok, potatoes were terrible. It was also really busy and the restaurant seemed understaffed for the amount of tables so it took longer than it should have. read more

This hotel is 0.2 miles from an overpass that easily has 50 homeless camps underneath it. The man who checked us in literally just asked for my credit card & ID when I was just trying to tell him the name the reservation was under. He did not say anything about breakfast & did not give us our included breakfast vouchers (had to ask for them in the AM). Room seemed clean. Not a ton of room to walk around the bed. Breakfast ended up being large & good. read more

Hallways wreak of smoke, room smelled like mouthwash until we turned on the heat and then it smelled like burnt toast with a body odor overtone. Oh and the neighbors down the hall? Loud and trashy until midnight I declared, at a ballsy rate of $130 for the night, I wasn't going to stay here unless they could try to place us in a decent, clean, odor-free room. That failed and the wedding parties were pretty loud anyways. I have never been so livid and disappointed with a Holiday Inn than this one. I ended up having an additional 2 hours of driving to avoid paying money at the worst hotel I've visited. read more

We stayed here as part of a wedding block (I am seeing a pattern here) the weekend of February 18th. The room was clean, had a nice seating area and plenty of room for us to stretch out without being on top of one another. The staff was friendly and helpful- even when I (as usual) put my card next to my crackberry and cancelled it out more than once. I have to give kudos as well to the maintenance staff. There was another wedding party booked who was partying BIG-TIME in the halls. Late in the evening I ran down to my car and saw the left behind beer cans and mess. By the time I got up early in the morning to use the little fitness center (very small if you are into that kind of thing) and the mess was gone. I saw the man on his way back down with the bag of cans and really felt for him. We were also pleased to find out that they are pet friendly- that puts them in competition with the Red-Roof down the street for our next trip up to see family because we normally travel with our two small dogs and have pretty much stuck with RR because they always allow our little guys. read more

Update: Came here again for business and was pretty disappointed. First of all, the hotel was under renovation. The building and elevators smelled very strongly of paint and building materials. Second, there was a child screaming for a whole day in a room adjacent to us and the hotel basically did nothing to stop the child (even after calling the front desk). Third, the bathtub/shower was rusted and yellowish. Beds were too springy and pillows were lumpy. Not much upside here.. read more

You couldn't pay me to stay here again. Our room was dirty and smelt very strong of cigarette smoke. We were in town for an event and staying here with our son; it was not our choice to pick a poorly rated Holiday Inn. When we alerted the front desk to the issue, they refused to help in an acceptable manner. I wanted a room change, they refused. They "cleaned" it again and expected me to stay there with my infant?! It still had a very strong odor. They were very condescending to my husband and I. First of all, there are two seperate titles for the same hotel on Yelp, don't know why? But we read the horrible reviews and got very uneasy on our way there. Don't believe the reviews! The gentleman at the front desk could be nicest person ever, the bartender was awesome, the food we got from the hotel restaurants was very very good( and we are picky eaters). Sometimes work takes you to the most interesting or most boring places. This was one of the extremes, in the middle of nowhere, well sort of. The room was outdated looking but the amenities were well provided. Such as hard and soft pillows, labeled on the bed. Free wifi but no breakfast. I just loved the bathroom with a single switch for light and exhaust because I couldnt keep it on for too long as the old exhaust was making more noise than the TV. I almost fell victim to the in-house Mexican restaurant because my boss was reluctant to venture out at night. Arrgh luckily we didnt but maybe we should have. read more

This Holiday Inn is older than other hotels, but the rooms are clean and very large. We had a suite with a little kitchenette, huge dining room table, bedroom, and bath with both a tub and shower. And everything was 80s style. One drawback was the TV in our bedroom was very finicky. Wifi was free. The bed was comfortable and the heating system worked well without being too loud. The staff was very accommodating and provided us with a few toiletries we had forgotten. When we asked for a wine opener we were told we had to go to the bar next door to get them to open the wine, which seemed a little odd. Overall, a good place to stay, especially given the lack of alternatives in the area. read more

Improvement over the past experiences. Lobby has been upgraded, rooms are still old and damp with smell of old carpet. I think they should keep the ACs on all the time. It will keep the smell away. Housekeeping has improved, there is morning room breakfast service now. You can tell they are trying but lacking financials to compete with the hotels in the area. Nearest ones are on old river road in Andover. The late night young receptionist is definitely not in for the passion, service lacks. The other one was great. In Salem, this is pretty much the choice. WiFi is free and pretty fast. read more
