I went to the Holiday Salon since it gets so many good reviews on Yelp, and I am writing to add my review to that list. I had an appointment with Mischa for my brows. I was seen on time, she did a great job and the "wax" that she used was so gentle and kinda funkie: She puts it on with the Popsicle stick but doesn't follow up with the usual bits of cloth. Her wax just firms up and she peels it off. No bits of cloth. It has a light scent, kind of like strawberries. My brows? They look cleaned, but not overly done, which is what I asked for. I also saw Leigh for a cut. I went from Long straight (mid back) to shortish (above my shoulders). with layers. I figure we cut about 6 inches. Leigh took the time to talk to be about what I wanted to do, ask about my life style, and cuts that I have had in the past. I was so comfortable when we started cutting since she really understood what I wanted and needed. She put a conditioning treatment in while she cut, so it could sink in as she worked. (It is so much nicer to get a treatment this way. At other salons usually do it at the bowl with your head tilted back, staring up at the ceiling. This was so much nicer.) Leigh cut and we chatted. She is really nice, we could have talked for 2 hours. When she was done she rinsed out the treatment, she blew it out and took the time to "set" it in about a dozen large round brushes. Normally salons don't like to do this since it is time consuming. But Leigh wanted to make sure it looked perfect... and it did. The salon sells really high-end Kerastase products, and I know they don't let just any salon sell their products. The price was WAY lower than I expected. A lady next to me sipped a glass of white wine during her cut! Yes, the salon is in a strip mall, but it's OC.... everything is in a strip Mall. read more

If you are looking for a salon with talented colorists and your hair is brown, this is not the place for you. If you want confidence your hair will turn out the way you want it to, don't go here. If you want them to own up to a mistake, don't go here. I will live to regret the decision I made to go here for a long time. I was way better off to make the long drive to my colorist in LA who actually knows what he is doing. If you want a blow dry or cut, perhaps this is your place, but it is NOT a place for color...not at least if you are a brunette. Luckily for them, most people who live in the vicinity are blond (and obviously all the people who reviewed their salon are as well). The two people I had color my hair there (one to fix the horrible job of another) did not know what they were doing, and unfortunately for me, the first of them decided to use PERMANENT hair color, so I have to live with it until it grows out. Every time I look at myself I want to burst into tears, but I got no sympathy from the salon owner Holly. She acted like she knew my hair color better than I did, but she never saw me with my natural hair color because one of HER stylists messed it up so badly. She was actually "annoyed" I was disappointed and I couldn't have been nicer about the situation. Not only did she not offer to refund my money, she had the audacity to charge me for the terrible job SHE did to fix the botched job I got there in the first place. I am a mother of two and a working professional. I am completely dumfounded by their lack of competence and MOST especially the cavalier attitude of the salon owner. I work in the service industry and cannot fathom treating a disappointed customer that way. I understand you can't make everyone happy, but the least you can do is try to make it right for the customer. Perhaps they have enough business, but I will NEVER go back there again and I will make sure to share my experience with all my friends and neighbors. read more

I made an appointment randomly today with Remy to cut and color my hair. I have never been the salon and it was a great experience. I wanted a little bit of red added to my brunette hair and it came out beautiful just what I wanted. Remy really listened to what I want and Im very happy with what she did. She also didnt push products which can always make you feel awkward when you decline. It was 160 for color and cut...a little pricy but i feel great and I even got hit on at the grocery store after. Being a California Native and spending my entire life in the California "Hair System" I feel it is time to acknowledge the BEST STYLIST and SALON I have ever had the pleasure of giving my patronage to which is "Holiday Salon" and my Stylist "TROY" in Costa Mesa CA. Since the late sixty's to present day I have had my hair done from "Upscale" Salons in the Los Angeles area (and not so upscale) to Newport Beach. From the heart of San Francisco to Lake Tahoe and back to Costa Mesa. I am by no means a hair expert, I have had long hair, curly hair, permed hair and very short hair. Styles that were "in style" and ones that were not. I DO NOT enjoy doing my hair, to me the easier the better was always my motto. Also because I felt my hair was unruly and would NEVER listen to me, or any style that any stylist tried on me. Until Troy got a hold of it!! When I first met Troy over a year ago my hair was a mess, short and because of an illness I had lost a lot of it (the only thing I had ever liked about my hair was its thickness and that was gone), it was thinned out and I had feared that someday I would need a wig!! I was a little apprehensive walking into "Holiday" because of it's very close proximity to Newport Beach but after my initial opening of the door and the first person I came in contact with all my fears were put to rest. When I met Troy my uneasiness melted away. He was so personable and caring I immediately felt comfortable. He never looked at me with anything but confidence, no laughter or for that matter any intimidation or his part. He told me that we would get my hair into to shape it would take awhile but he promised me I would eventually love it. This was done with absolutely no arrogance on his part or that I was not worth his time, which I have experienced previously with other stylist's. I turned my hair and trust over to him completely and I have NEVER been disappointed. So now a year + later I felt it was time to share him with other's!! I now love my hair and everyday I look in the mirror with amazement at what he's done for me. My hair is now just so darn beautiful (at least in my eyes and frankly that's all that matters) and it's still easy to do. Troy has grown it out slowly colored it, highlighted it, and given me the best cuts I've ever had. For me though he gave me two things, first (which may sound silly to some) how to use a flat iron which may sound trivial but for someone like me is a big deal, and secondly CONFIDENCE about my hair. Not a day goes by that I don't look in the mirror and thank Troy for what he's done for me and my hair. I believe most Women will understand this, that our hair really does give us confidence in our appearance. It is not the most important thing in the world but it does make us feel better about ourselves, I say that with more experience then I really want to admit. As far as Holiday Salon itself I can't say enough good things about the staff from the gals who greet you when you walk in to Troy's assistant, Hara thank you for everything (and if I spelled your name wrong I apologize), to the staff who checks you out! I do have one minor negative which was addressed. One experience (once) when I checked out which I wrote in one of my reviews and honestly had forgotten about, until my last visit when one of the Owner's came over introduced herself and apologized for my experience, Frankly I was taken aback that she would take the time to come and talk to me about it. She was so sincere and caring I felt truly special and realized that Owners and Staff do read reviews especially when they are small business's. They know most of their business is word of mouth and "HOLIDAY SALON" cares. Bottom line, Small Business ROCKS!!! So if your looking for a New Stylist or are new to town PLEASE, PLEASE try TROY at HOLIDAY SALON, you won't be disappointed take this from someone who has experienced stylist's throughout the State of California!!
