Good n hot!
Rebecca G.

We love it here! A fantastic mom & pop local community breakfast/lunch spot! Great location, awesome service! And we love their dog friendly patio! Super busy here (as always) and everyone enjoyed their food, I had to send back my breakfast sandwich back for a redo because the cooks burned the bread so bad, squished thin as paper, burned to a crisp and I do not even know how they allowed it to leave the kitchen like that? But our server was a doll and had them remake it for me and it was awesome! I really hate sending food back but this? It needed to be fixed. Anyway I will always highly recommend dining here! Back soon!

Breakfast with a Side of Beach Vibes! We stopped by Hollywood Beach Café for breakfast after a morning walk along the beach from the hotel next door, and honestly, it felt like a reward for waking up early! Atmosphere: This place is charming in the most "coastal California" way. It's bright, beachy, and full of good vibes. There's indoor and patio seating. Food: I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict , and WOW, it hit all the right notes. The portions are generous (but not coma-inducing), and the ingredients tasted fresh. Coffee is Italian, was strong, hot, and refilled often, which is a win in my book. My friend got the huevos rancheros and wouldn't stop talking about it between bites. Tips: Get there early! It fills up fast, especially on weekends. Street parking is nearby and usually easy in the mornings. Great spot for families, couples, or solo breakfast dates with your book. Bottom Line: Whether you're a local or just beach-hopping for the weekend, Hollywood Beach Café is a must-try breakfast stop. Casual, delicious, and close to the sand, it doesn't get more California than that. Would I come back? Absolutely.

Came here for a quick breakfast on a Monday morning. The place was busy, but we were seated immediately. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Parking might be difficult, but it's worth it! Definitely bringing our dog with us next time. Your classic, bustling breakfast diner vibes with friendly staff.

Sooooo happy to have stopped by. This spot used to be Mrs. Olson's in its glory. One of my faves back in the day . This spot though is top top on my list. Sooooo good and the service is amazing. Top notch! We sat in the patio and thankful there were heaters. Such a cozy area. I got the Denver Omelette but swapped the ham for bacon. I asked for the hash extra crispy and they delivered. Delicious. There was an issue with my dish and Brook was kind to fix it immediately. No rolling of eyes , no attitude or frustration , just kindness. My friend loved her meal too. Perfect for breakfast and then a walk along the beach . I will be back and bring more friends! This location is perfect . There's no beautiful views but it is perfect ( as mentioned) for a walk along the beach after or before some grubs. I also want to mention that I love the small upgrades they've done since Mrs. Olson's left. More of my vibe. Their cute beachy ceiling fans are such a plus.

Half of the Salmon Benedict with addition of avocado (I started eating before I remembered to take a pic)

It was a hot summer day and I wanted beach air. I'd never been to this establishment, but the location and reviews were good. Tezra was our pleasant and hard-working server. We decided to share the salmon Benedict with the addition of avocado at the suggestion of Tezra. It was outstanding with perfectly poached eggs, fresh spinach and cedar-plank smoked salmon, with plenty of homemade Hollandaise sauce. I just wasn't crazy about the potatoes with peppers. I give this place one whole star just for having a waitlist I can get on prior to arriving.

Awesome food, service and ambience! It's noisy so be prepared but it's fun and they have a TV. It also has an outdoor patio where you can dine with your dog & it's less noisie

Omelet with half tater tots and half breakfast potatoes.

Wanting a brunch by the beach with an outdoor patio. Hollywood Beach Cafe in Oxnard seemed to be a good fit. Plus they have a call ahead waiting list. Labor Day at one PM we thought there might be a long wait. They did have our waiting list reservation but it was no problem at that hour - lots of empty tables on the patio and inside. Jo Jo, our server, came by right away to get our beverage order. They have a fairly large breakfast and lunch menu so we needed a few minutes to decide what to get. I ordered a build your own omelet ($20) with carmelized onions, mushrooms and sausage with a side of tater tots. DELISH!!! My wife got the Ventura County breakfast with sunny side up eggs, ham, and breakfast potatoes. We ended up sharing the potatoes (the tater tots were the better of the two). Good food, good service. The ambiance on the patio was a bit of a disappointment (a walled off area so no beach ambiance). They add 2 percent for "back of the house" fee. Just $0.87 here - but an annoyance but not a deal breaker.

Eggs Benedict with tater tot's 7/10

Way too expensive and not very good alcoholic drinks unfortunately. The food was good but not to die for and not worth the price. I think I paid $40 including tip for an eggs Benedict and espresso martini that I honestly had to force myself to drink because it just tasted super bitter and not right. Service was great though which is why I rated 3 stars. Our waitress was super friendly and chill, she offered to take our drinks back since we didn't seem to like them but we refused as we had already drank some of it and were planning to leave soon at that point. But the fact that she still offered showed great customer service! This restaurant is literally right on the beach, like you walk out and the beach is maybe 5 feet away or less haha. Parking is awful though cause it's of course limited due to the beach being right there and it being in a residential location. They do have tons of seating inside and I liked how dog friendly they are, I believe they offer food for dogs! And there were cute pictures of dogs also. Overall not terrible but I won't be coming back.

Save yourself the headache and eat somewhere else. -- We were told our wait would be approximately 15 minutes. It ended up being closer to 30. Once seated, things got even worse. We sat for roughly 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging our table and had to flag down two separate employees before we were assigned a server. Despite arriving over an hour before I needed to leave for a scheduled appointment, our food didn't arrive until approximately 11:35 AM. Spending over an hour at breakfast for a simple meal is unreasonable, especially at a resort restaurant where guests often have reservations and activities planned. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait. The chicken sausage arrived room temperature, and my pancakes were raw in the middle. Not undercooked--raw. After waiting over an hour for breakfast, receiving food that wasn't properly prepared was incredibly disappointing. As if that weren't enough, the restaurant somehow managed to charge our credit card twice while also posting the charge to our room. Resolving the error became an ordeal of phone calls, receipt photos, waiting for managers, and multiple follow-ups. What should have been a simple correction ended up taking a significant amount of our vacation time. The most frustrating part wasn't even the mistakes themselves--it was the lack of urgency in fixing them. Nobody seemed particularly concerned that guests were waiting excessive amounts of time, receiving improperly prepared food, or dealing with billing errors.

For starters, we had fresh seared ahi tuna, delicious crab cakes, perfectly battered shrimp, and crispy calamari served with a marinara sauce that had just the right amount of spice. Our table enjoyed the chicken piccata, lobster ravioli, and Wagyu burger, and every entrée was excellent. The blackberry margaritas were a standout and worth the visit alone! Dessert was the perfect finish with tiramisu, rich chocolate cake, and incredible churro waffles topped with caramel cream sauce, walnuts, and strawberries. Chef's kiss to all three. The service was outstanding, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between casual and upscale, with great outdoor seating and harbor views. The packed bar area made it clear this is a local favorite. Highly recommend Waterside whenever you're in the Oxnard/Channel Islands area. We will definitely be back!

For my entrée, I got the braised short rib and it was AMAZING--super juicy and full of flavor. I also ordered an espresso martini, which was delicious. I added a photo of our drinks because they were all so good. Dessert was a choice between tiramisu and cheesecake, and both were delicious. After dinner, we walked by the ocean next to the restaurant, which made the night even better. Definitely an amazing Valentine's dinner!

Unfortunately, this was by far my worst experience here. First, I want to thank the busser who helped us (a kind Latinx gentleman). He was attentive, checked on us often, and showed genuine care.. far more than our actual server, MELISSA. MELISSA provided minimal to no customer service. She took our order without any warmth, never checked on us, and didn't offer refills, everything was handled by bussers. Our food came out only slightly warm, and portions were noticeably smaller than what we've received in the past, which is disappointing given the prices. What was most concerning and difficult to ignore was the clear difference in how MELISSA treated us compared to another table seated right next to us. When a Caucasian family was seated nearby, her entire demeanor changed. She became attentive, friendly, and engaged in a way she never once did with us. The contrast was immediate and obvious. After we finished, we paid our bill in full (including a 20% tip, despite the poor service) and left calmly. As we were walking to our car, MELISSA ran after us and questioned whether we had paid. This was not only embarrassing, but deeply upsetting. There was no attempt to verify with staff first, just an immediate assumption directed at us. As a server myself, I know how situations like this should be handled, and this was not it. Being singled out and approached this way, especially after already experiencing noticeably different treatment inside the restaurant, felt like profiling and discrimination. This all took place on what was supposed to be a nice Easter breakfast with my family, which made the experience even more disappointing. I did call to speak with a manager, who seemed to listen, but the overall situation was unacceptable. I will not be returning. There are plenty of other local smaller businesses in Oxnard that treat all guests with fairness, respect, and professionalism.

BBQ Worth Fighting Over at Smokin Jay's BBQ & Coffee from Potheads Coffee…read more My wife and I recently stopped by Smokin Jay's BBQ and paired it with a visit to Potheads Coffee, and it turned into one of those meals you end up talking about long after you leave. From the first bite, it was clear this spot takes their BBQ seriously. Entrées: We started by ordering a brisket plate, which came with about 1/4 lb of brisket, roughly six solid pieces, along with macaroni salad and baked beans. Our original plan was to share, but that quickly changed after the first few bites. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right with that perfect balance of smoke and juiciness. It didn't take long before we realized sharing wasn't going to cut it. So my wife went back up and ordered a brisket sando with fries, and it absolutely delivered. The sandwich came loaded with brisket, pickles, slaw, and sauce, all working together perfectly. The fries were a great side, crispy and a solid pairing with the sandwich. Sides: The macaroni salad and baked beans that came with the plate were both on point. The mac salad was creamy and complemented the richness of the brisket, while the baked beans added that sweet and savory depth you want with BBQ. Sandwich Details: The sando really stood out, especially with the addition of the slaw. My wife usually isn't a fan of coleslaw, but this one changed things a bit. It wasn't overpowering and added a nice crunch and balance to the sandwich, tying everything together without taking away from the brisket. Drinks and Service: Grabbing coffee from Potheads Coffee alongside the meal was the perfect move. What really stood out, though, was the service. Jay, the owner, was walking around checking in on customers and genuinely engaging with everyone. He even helped my wife decide on a coffee based on what she usually orders at Starbucks, which was a great personal touch. He later stopped by our table, chatted with us for a bit, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and personal. Ambience: The atmosphere strikes a great balance between laid back and lively. It has that casual, welcoming BBQ spot feel where you can relax, enjoy your food, and not feel rushed. Pairing it with Potheads Coffee adds to the experience, making it feel like more than just a meal but a spot you can hang out and enjoy. Overall: Smokin Jay's BBQ is hands down the best BBQ spot I've had in Ventura County so far. Between the quality brisket, well put together sides, standout sandwiches, and the personal touch from the owner, it's an easy recommendation. Pair it with Potheads Coffee, and you've got yourself a top tier Ventura food stop that's definitely worth coming back to.

And let me tell you, when you're heading to an island for kayaking and hiking, securing food starts to feel less like lunch planning and more like wilderness survival strategy. The online ordering process, though, gave my husband a minor technological character-building experience. Not especially intuitive or user friendly. Then, on the morning of the trip, we weren't entirely sure where the lunches would actually appear. Tiny scavenger hunt energy. Thankfully, they were waiting for us at the ferry office, and we both immediately took the same relieved breath: "Excellent. We shall not perish on the island." The sandwiches themselves were genuinely delicious. I had the Caprese, my husband had the turkey baguette, and both were fresh, flavorful, and substantial enough to fuel actual adventure instead of just delaying hunger by 20 minutes. Each lunch box also came with chips, Fuji water, and a chocolate chip cookie that quietly stole the show. Soft, delicious, and exactly the kind of reward you want after hauling yourself around an island pretending you're far more athletic than you really are. By the time lunch was over, I was happy, full, and fully prepared for the next round of kayaking and hiking. Which is really the highest compliment an adventure lunch can get.
