I'm actually surprised I haven't written a review already. I've owned the same Zero since 2016 (2014 S) and have always had it serviced by Hollywood Electrics. Over the years they've made my bike green, added heated grips, folding mirrors, powertank and even put an 2016 SR motor and motor controller in. I've enjoyed their ability to help personalize my vehicle aesthetically and mechanically. In the process of going in and out of their shop I became good pals with Carl who is knowledgeable about electric vehicles, cars, motorcycles. He also happens to be a fantastic musician in Los Angeles. One time after I got my bike serviced he was heading the same direction as me and we rode for about 70 miles together on electric motorcycles. I also appreciate their care in regards to COVID-19 safety. I worked at a motorcycle dealership in college and it's clear to see this place is so much more than a typical motorcycle dealership. I highly recommend if you are even curious about electric motorcycles to stop in and sit down and chat with their staff. It's worth learning about and if you have a motorcycle endorsement go on a test ride just to see what it's all about. Do you love the wind in your hair? How about that "just rolled out of a stranger's bed" helmet head look? Are you having a tawdry, green love affair with nature? And, do you love having your wrists manacled while your hair gets pulled and someone behind a French cotillion mask shouts environmentalist slogans at you? If you answered "yes" to the first three questions, Hollywood Electrics is the bike shop for you! (And if you answered yes to the FOURTH question, our next group meeting is Thursday -- bring an Italian dish and blackout curtains) Hollywood Electrics isn't the typical motorcycle shop -- no greasemonkeys or scary bikers with "Satan is My Homeboy" tattoos, motor oil stains, revving, un-muffled engines piercing your eardrums -- or dangerously cool leather rebel jackets. So, it's ALMOST perfect ;-). Obviously, every vehicle at Hollywood Electrics is environmentally friendly. Nary a reciprocating engine in sight! A large selection of cycles is available throughout the store, ranging from bicycle style beach combers to freeway-legal sport bikes capable of 60+ mph. As these vehicles are all electrically charged and battery powered, their range is limited -- the sidewalk/bike lane restricted models get around 25 miles per charge if you let the engine do all the work, or around 40 miles per charge if you let those sexy legs of yours do some of the pumping. The street-legal /dirtbike models have similar mileage performance despite their larger motors, as their engines cannot be supplemented by the rider's peddling. They make up for this, however, with their greater speed and ability to make fast cars wait impatiently behind them on single-lane roads. Prices are somewhat prohibitive, especially compared to the excellent, much more value-oriented "E-Road" electric bike shop a few miles away on SanMo Blvd, however Hollywood Electrics fills its niche nicely with a greater variety of vehicles (E-Road has only one, $700 model, albeit in many colors). Bikes at Hollywood Electrics start at around $3,000, and end at over $10,000 for the largest, high-performance street models. Some flexibility in pricing is negotiable, depending on electric engine selection (all models come with a lower powered "base" engine, with larger, more pricey engines optional). The one variety of motorcycle missing from Hollywood Electrics' repertoire is the cruiser/chopper variety, but bikes of this class likely won't be truant for long. Test-rides and financing are available, as are DMV registration services and other legal formalities -- it's like any traditional vehicle dealership, without the plaid-suited salesman trying to sweet talk you into the driver's seat of a Buick. The employees at Hollywood Electrics are friendly, knowledgeable, and very obviously believe both in their product and their company's progressive, Earth-friendly philosophy. It's quite an experience to come in! Even if you can't quite afford to drop several thousand dollars on a still-evolving, imperfect technology (what technology IS perfect, really?) right now, you can still pick up some accessories on the cheap, and dream of a greener tomorrow -- more green on Earth, and more green in your wallet. Buy a $20 Hollywood Electrics t-shirt, while you're there, and show the world (or, at least Fairfax Ave) what time it is! Extremely helpful Zero service and advice! I have a 2015 Zero SR which was having some range issues, and my local dealer (out of town) was not able to help me over the course of several months. After one phone call with Tyler just for a second opinion, plus one email with some bike logs, the very next day Tyler had me approved for a new battery with Zero under warranty replacement. My local dealer ended up performing the service, and I only ended up buying a pair of gloves from these guys, so this demonstrates that they care about their products and customers. Specifically, big props to Tyler who was extremely helpful over the phone. I was blown away by his experience level and willingness to help someone he might never end up meeting. read more

My first electric motorcycle was a 2014 Zero S and I've upgraded to a 2018 Zero SR. Hollywood Electrics is great to deal with and they are very competent. They do all the service work on my bike (which is mainly just tires and brakes). I'll never own a gas bike again. The torque is crazy and I can get up to 140 miles on my SR. I can charge it from 0% to 100% in as little as 1-1/2 hours. I highly recommend Hollywood Electrics if you are in the market for an electric motorcycle. read more

The BEST place to go for Zero Motorcycles. They have been selling, servicing, and innovating Zero Motorcycles longer than anyone in Los Angeles County. They know everything there is to know. Everyone who works their is friendly and knowledgeable. Zero Motorcycles aren't complex, from an owner's perspective, but this place will ensure you have a good foundational understanding. Tyler diagnosed my 2018 Zero DSR in no time. He explained the simple solution and began the needed process with the manufacturer. I would buy a Zero anywhere but here. I went in and the guy inside (I assume the owner) at first ignored me (the shop is tiny--pretty ridiculous) then acted like he was doing me a favor by telling me about the bikes. He said (paraphrasing) "if you're in the market for a Yamaha or whatever, don't bother here, they're like the Tesla of motorcycles" then said that there's a waiting list and he's going to start selling them for over MSRP, even the demo models. He said this in a way that implied pretty heavily that he didn't think I could afford them (wow, a whole $15k or so, big wup). Speaking of demos, I asked about a test ride since they're advertised prominently on the Zero website. He looked me up and down and then said I'd basically need to buy one (with a $3k deposit) before he'd let me take a demo ride. Sorry buddy, my cash is as green as anybody else's. Customer service doesn't get any better than Hollywood Electrics! There isn't much maintenance on these E-machines but when there is an issue, these guys go the extra mile! From communication to service and even hooking me up with a loaner while my ride was down, they hooked it up! I was looking for a replacement for my Vespa GTS and googled "electric motorcycle" because I wanted an EV. Zero motorcycle was in the top results so did some research on the bikes Zero had to offer. When I knew it checked all the boxes I was looking for, I saw that Hollywood Electrics sold them and was conveniently in my area. It was easy to make an appointment and eventually met up with Carl. He spent the time answering my questions and I walked out of the shop after putting down a deposit. I was sold on the bike fairly quickly. I did have to wait a few weeks to get my hands on the Zero S, but it was worth the wait. I went to the shop and Carl showed me the basic functions and I was off! I walked into Hollywood Electrics on an off-hand suggestion from my wife that I should try an electric motorcycle. I have been riding for over a decade but recently injured my hand and cannot operate a clutch. Instead of moping, we decided to walk into HE and test drive a 2015 Zero S. I rode home on the bike the next weekend.... :-) Really great guys (Thanks Harlan, Carl and Bobby). They not only helped me with my purchase and got me a great deal on their demo, but also helped me figure out how to convince my apartment to let me charge the bike. They really go above and beyond. They are assisting my wife and some of their other vertically challenged riders by working with a prominent motorcycle seat manufacturer to order low seats that will work for the Zero motorcycles. How many dealers do you know that will do that?!?! I can't think of why anyone would buy an electric motorcycle anywhere else. These guys know more about the technology than almost anyone and even helped Zero Motorcycles design some of their bikes. I inquired with Zero about a possible test ride and was contacted by Hollywood Electrics. Over the phone I asked what kind of test ride I would be taking, asking if it it would be restricted and/or a follow along ride. I was told it would be a 15-20 minutes free ride so I decided it would be worth the hour and half ride down to try it out. I arrived on my own bike ('07 CBR 1000 RR) and was not immediately greeted so began to wander the shop. I over heard someone returning from a test ride and being told "You've still got plenty of charge left go take it out for more" After filling out a few short forms it's my turn to ride. I'm given instructions on where to go which is less than 5 minutes and barley a city block whilst in traffic. Expecting to hear the same thing when I returned, I'm greeted with a "How was it? Can you fill out a survey?" Really!?! What a complete waste of my time. I definitely will not be purchasing a Zero bike from here... Response: Hey Harlan, didn't realize you had responded. As I stated the other potential customer did not ask for a longer ride. Upon returning they were immediately told to take the bike back out without saying a word. Almost forced to go ride more. I am very familiar with the area. My sister has lived in LA for over 10 years and I spend 10+ hours a day driving in and around the LA area. I know it well. My whole reason for asking over the phone about the test ride was to make sure taking half of my day to come down there would not be a waste, which unfortunately it was. Had I known I needed to ask a bunch of questions to get a reasonable test ride, I would have. The reason for the lack of questions was due to the obvious lack of knowledge from your sales associates, which one apparently is also your sales manager... Not sure if you're aware the internet has much more information on the bike than your "associates" were able to provide. How you can be the top Zero dealer in the world is mind boggling but that saves me from having an even worse experience at another Zero store. It's scary to think that is possible... Thankfully the poor experience at your store lead me to a much superior product and customer experience with Alta Motors who know how to treat a potential buyer. After special ordering a 2016 Zero DS from an east coast dealer, I finally got it delivered in Hawaii and promptly put 186 miles on it the first week of delivery. When the charger crapped out and needed a warranty replacement, I was tired of messing with the seemingly-incompetent original dealer and turned to HE after seeing their name all over the Electric Motorcycle Forum. WOW did I miss out on a gem of an establishment whose employees live, talk, and breath electric motorcycles! I have long believed in electric transportation alternatives and started researching Zero MCs almost two years ago. Only by truly immersing yourself in the lifestyle can you become a well-respected expert and start understanding how to creatively improve customer service for a hand-built product is only at its 10-year infancy of existence. To read other reviews here on Yelp help me to realize that I am in good hands once this initial glitch of a faulty charger gets resolved. Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to visit Carl and Harlan in person when I get back to the left coast! Googled "scooter repair." Hollywood electrics was one of the first results. Wheeled my scooter to the shop for a flat tire replacement. When I inquired about getting my tire fixed, the sales attendant (bald, 40s) rudely informed me they don't fix anything that's not electric. I tried to ask if they could possibly just special order me a tire (or get another shop recommendation), but the salesman cut me off -- then told me to find a scooter repair shop by googling it. In contrast, the guys at AppleBox scooters had much better customer service; though they also don't do tire work, they were extremely nice and recommended a place for me to get my scooter fixed. If you're looking for a place to buy an electric motorcycle, you may have to wind up shopping here. But for customer service, I'd look somewhere else. read more

I was riding up Fairfax this morning and saw a handsome little moto-streetbike parked on the curb. There was a sign saying FREE TEST RIDE. I kept going for a block then figured what the hell, I need a cheap thrill... I busted a U-turn and went back to check it out. Turns out it was a snap, I already had my gear on. Talked to Harlan, signed a waiver and two minutes later was cruising west hollywood on that same bike, a Zero electric (XU model, I think). I had never been on an electric motorcycle before. It's different. The bike, good-looking and 250-sized, has no clutch and very little engine noise. You pull the throttle, it makes a faint turbine whine and off you go. Low end torque is not great but when you keep the throttle on it just keeps going. Feels like power sailing. It's a trip to be accelerating down an open road and just hear the wind around your helmet. One thing I noticed soon was how much I use engine braking in my daily riding. This bike will cruise until you hit the brakes, which feels odd, but apparently the new Zero S (streetfighter looking and more powerful) has generative engine braking, better range and torque. If I had one I'd love engine braking, also adjustable "turbine noise" would be sweet, I would crank that baby up because it sounds cool. It is a bit eerie to lanesplit in quiet. The bike was fun to ride and have for a few minutes. The quality of components seemed good. Besides the obvious fuel and maintenance savings (dry belt drive and zero maintenance motor), the novelty of running a futuristic powerplant is a kick. The silence I think trips people out, I can imagine having lots of conversations about the bike if I had one. So this review is based on a ride for selfish fun, but Harlan was very chill and welcoming, there were no sales speeches. A test ride here should be tops on fun (free) things to do in LA on a whim, especially if you ride motorcycles. Go check out the future. read more

Firstly, for anyone looking, Hollywood Electrics have E-Road Parts, if not in stock, they can get them just couple of days! I was SO happy to find this place, having looked everywhere for parts for my bike. Once inside, I realized they have tons of fabulous different kinds of bikes, from the electric bikes that look like bicycles, to huge electric bikes that look like racing motorbikes. The staff are way into electric bikes, so know everything you may have a questions about, as well as being very friendly, helpful and fair on prices. The store is on Fairfax, in a really central area, and the hours are FABULOUS! they are open until 7 on Saturdays - which is very rare, and they are open until 5pm on Sundays. This place literally saved me having to wait until Monday and go all the way downtown to get the part I needed, and unlike other places, the guy even offered to put the part in for me. A saving grace for people dealing with E-Road brand bike issues - as NO one seems to have the parts. They also stock 'Zero' motorcycles, that can go up to 67mph, and 50 miles on ONE charge!! Also stock Roehr, Brammo & Native motorcycles, and a ton of electric bicycles (E+, Bumblebee) Scooters (Native) and helmets. I really wish 'd found this place before I purchased my bike. I bought a Zero S in 2013 and I've put about 10k miles on it. Suck on that gas stations! I had a minor issue recently (after 2 years of damn near NOTHING wrong with the bike), and the guys at the shop took care of it quickly and without drama. Test rode a Zero FXS today at Hollywood Electrics. If you are even mildly interested in the idea of owning a Zero, you must go and test ride one. I was really impressed with how accessible and useable the power and handling of this bike was. Coming from sports bikes I was actually surprised and impressed by the sheer acceleration and nimbleness of the bike. I must go back at some point and ride the SR/F. This shop Is the best shop I've been to. Carl is very informative and he will get you the bike for your needs and he will ask you a few questions to figure it out what bike is for you.
