Went for the Lunar New Year Afternoon Tea, and had an amazing time. The staff we super friendly, and very caring. They were able to answer all of the questions we had about the menu and the different teas. They were very knowledgeable about the teas, and made accurate recommendations based on our preferences. The Afternoon Tea itself was amazing. The different tiers were all unique and tasty, and the presentation was beautiful. I decided to go with the Peaches and Cream tea, which I would highly recommend if you like a lighter and kind of sweet tea. Also, as a huge fan of shrimp dumplings, the ones that were served were so delicious. I wish we could have ordered more of them honestly. The atmosphere was a bit loud, but that's to be expected from such a small space that opens out into the Holt Renfrew store itself. Everything was very elegant and felt classy. Even though there isn't really a dress code, wearing something a bit fancier wouldn't feel out of place at all. While I like this restaurant in general I find the afternoon tea to be a touch underwhelming. Walked in for the chinese moon cake festival special afternoon tea. I've done this in prior years and it's equally underwhelming. The tea service comes with two teas of your choice from their standard selection. I tried the roobios version this time and it was nice. We added the special sparkling tea from Penninsula and that was good as well. The food was ok. Nothing special but lots of volume. The duck sandwich was my wife's favourite as it tasted like banh mi. Jo Malone Afternoon Tea (Xmas holiday) Good selection of tea & nice assortment of desserts, scones & tea sandwiches. Can't go wrong with Sloane teas. My favourite is the Heavenly Cream which is their version of a creamy earl grey tea. Two scones (buttermilk & another one with candied orange I think). Both were lovely. I loved the plum and cinnamon jam (albeit a bit more runny than needed). Proper clotted cream is always delish & appreciated. There are 4 desserts on the top tier. All are very good. But do note, if you're taking the desserts home, some might melt & not keep their form too long! Sandwiches were ok, but nothing spectacular. The turkey would have nice as roast turkey as opposed to a cold cut style. The highlight of the green tomato sandwich was the burrata. I think my favourite was the prawn sandwich. I love Jo Malone perfume so it's always nice to attend this collaboration tea and get a free sample. Last month, I booked a Lunar New Year afternoon tea for a saturday afternoon (March 2nd). My boyfriend and I were excited as this was our first time going to this cafe and to eat delicious food! Our waiter was a friendly young man with closely shaved head and a neck tattoo. He was warm and welcoming, and we appreciated that he accommodated our requests (e.g. hot water, extra utensils) during our meal. He also checked in to make sure that we were enjoying our meal and to clear some items off the table. The afternoon tea set was beautiful to look and each item was delicious! Also, the tea that each of us chose (ginger lemon and Moroccan mint) were great. We were too full by the end, so we took the remaining desserts home. I've been here for high tea twice now - once for Lunar New Year and most recently for their Christmas holiday Jo Malone inspired set. The restaurant itself is cute with ample natural lighting - almost too much sun actually, especially in the early afternoon when it can be really blinding! Service is mixed and depends on who you get. I have seen both good and bad servers here and therefore deducted a star for the inconsistency. Food is average and again dependent on what's on the menu for your particular visit. Another star deduction here. For example, I enjoyed the pastries in their Lunar New Year set better than the ones offered in their Christmas holiday set. When I heard that Holts Cafe is doing a LNY-themed High Tea, I had to go check it out. For $78/person, we were well fed! Swipe to see the menu, it was a good variety & nice balance of sweet & savoury treats my fav was the Five-Spice Roasted Pork Bao! Since we booked a table at 11am, which is when they opened, we managed to get a table right by the window. Checked out the Festive Jo Malone Afternoon Tea this weekend. Was a wonderful tea, just right in terms of the food and accompanied by Sloane Teas which are always great. Nice venue and the pricing was pretty reasonable for a holiday tea too ($65+ tax and tip). Only served on Saturdays and Sundays during the holidays. You must reserve in advance as they need 24 hours to prepare. Totally recommend. Great service. They kept our teapots full! Oh and we got a couple of Jo Malone sample colognes too! read more

Understandable it's a busy time of year when you have a holiday event, but we ended up waiting over 20 minutes to get our table despite having an reservation. Once seated, we ordered our type of tea and added a glass of prosecco as well. The tea was fantastic, as expected since it's Sloane brand tea. However when it came to the actual food, sweets and pastries, it was a little disappointing. The small savory sandwiches were soggy and tasted old, and the sweet pastries were very bland and seemed like something you can get from a grocery store. The highlight was definitely the scones- absolutely fantastic with great choice of spreads. But I definitely expected a higher quality afternoon tea set from Holts Cafe. read more

I enjoyed my recent visit to Holts cafe. We received 18.88% (such a Chinese thing) off their restaurant with a coupon from shopping at Holts back near Chinese New Year (they actually rounded it up to 19%). If it weren't for the promo, Holt's Cafe wouldn't be top of mind, given it's on the upper floors of Holt Renfrew. I'm so glad I came. The ambiance, service and food are top-notch, just as you would've expected. Right now, they are part of the city's DineTOgether program. Where can you order two items for $30 from their special menu (choose two from their appetizer, main, and dessert section). So it's an optimal time to try if you haven't been. We both chose a main and shared a dessert and app. It's all elevated creative versions of typical comfort foods, PB&J with chicken liver mousse is just yum. The spinach pasta is super fresh, tasty and light. Usually, I wouldn't say I like spinach because it can taste too earthy and bitter. Fish is cooked just right. The portions are smaller, so we added a side of truffle fries and we were both left satisfied. The sauce and fries are both great. Creative touches throughout their mocktails. The drink is pink, I couldn't resist, and there's a popsicle, why not. For the ambiance, food creativity/quality, service and location, the price point is reasonable. Made reservations for the Guerlain Honey afternoon tea service on a Sunday afternoon and what an amazing experience it was! We were seated right away and service was immaculate, the servers were very attentive and always asked if we needed anything more. At $70/person, we left feeling very full and satisfied, even packed some sweets to go since we couldn't finish the dessert platter. The tea menu had a great selection, I chose the peach tea and it was oh so yummy! They even gave us a small bottle of the Guerlain Watery Oil which I've been wanting to try. My sister and I went for the Guerlain Mother's Day high tea at the Holts cafe. We were one of the first seatings at the restaurant and were very excited. After being seated, our waiter seemed very disinterested in servings us and made us feel like we were a nuisance more than anything. His explanation of the tea list was short. curt and didn't spark any excitement for our experience to come. Once we received our tea the tower of food arrived shortly after. As the restaurant started filling up, we noticed that our waiter was quite chatty and cheerful with the other tables which made us wonder if we did or said anything that warranted our poor service. The scones that we received were very hard and dry that not even the clotted cream or marmalade jam could save. The savoury food offerings were not bad. The desserts were delicious although the shortbread cookie garnish in the panna cotta was so hard that I thought I'd break teeth trying to bite it. I also found eggshell in the lemon meringue sponge cake when I ate it. Overall it wasn't the experience I was expecting from an upscale department store like Holt Renfrew. read more

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes... Yes, I used to drop in to Holt's Cafe when it was in the basement and was a self-service because the kind employees would make me this a tasty smoked salmon sandwich with capers I enjoyed. In the interim, the cafe has gone, changed, moved to Level 3 of Holt, garnered a view - not a good view, but a view - and become roomier, airier and upscale. The cafe overlooks Bloor, perpetual construction, incessant traffic and lets in a lot of natural light. The prices are high (2 people, 1 drink each no alcohol $100), the service respectful and polite and the setting simply something different. The washrooms are clean and built with privacy in mind. That too is appreciated. The polite, tall and pretty waitress was quite friendly and, like the other employees, put on no airs. That is appreciated. Nothing like going for a meal at a slightly higher end setting and receiving attitude. None of that at Holt's. So setting check, service check, cleanliness check, how was the food? So-so. Nothing bad about it. I took the waitress' suggestion and had a chicken sandwich and it was fine. It comes with fresh vegetables, brioche buns and choice of salad or fries. It could have been served anywhere though. I also tasted some of the squid pasta and again it was fine, but nothing special. I would guess that the cafe may be a better value for drinks, but to be exact there is no complaint that could be levelled about the food either. It is just that it would never be mistaken for gourmet. Holt's Cafe is lacking a special dish that would stand out and one would rave about. The cafe has its own elevator on the east side of the building that is a better bet than the chain's main one. PS: No smoked salmon or capers on the menu! read more

Soooo good. My bf and I were famished and stopped into the Cafe to grab a bite while shopping. From the hostess to the entire staff everyone was awesome. You can tell that all were very conscientious about health and safety. The Cafe itself is bright and cheery with a great view of the shoe department on one side and the bustling street out the window. We had a few cocktails and some lively conversation with the bartender about some of the spirits on the bar and then the freshest salad with shrimp, asparagus , avocado... so yummy. Just enough to fuel my shopping trip but also a delight to my tastebuds. I wanted some truffle fries so bad ! The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. The food, itself, however was subpar and did not reflect their high prices. I ordered the chicken pot pie and it was pretty average, small and incredibly disappointing for $20 I paid for it. Overall, I think you're mainly paying for the trendy and fancy atmosphere of the restaurant, rather than the food. Booked the Lunar New Year Afternoon Tea. Kudos to the Culinary Tea and FB Team. I love afternoon tea. Been to afternoon tea at Harrods' in London, Omni King Edward, Windsor Arms. Too many places to remember. This was one of the most amazing experiences to try. Not your typical afternoon tea and only during Lunar New Year, but the quality was amazing. Service was amazing. The only issues I had, their POS system wouldn't read my credit card as it gave a "chip error". Tried three different credit cards and my debt card and it said the same thing. Tried another machine, and the same issue. Manager came over, as I think the server was getting a little frustrated with me and my cards. Tried a machine, don't know if it was from the same ones, the server tried and again an error message. Went for another machine and it finally worked. Upon leaving, my daughter said, it almost seemed like the staff and manager thought we didn't have the funds to pay for it. I think with the volume they experience, and how everyone pays either credit or debt. POS systems need to be cleaned and maintained. Any dirt in the card reader can cause these issues. Hint: Make sure you have cash as back up or get ready to wash dishes. read more

Love this place. You will walk in and be greeted by a bright, sun-filled space and Louie, the sweet host. Everyone at the restaurant was very welcoming and friendly. I sat at the bar and was served by bartender Davide and Joseph, my waiter. Ordered the Salad Niçoise - Seared sesame Tuna On a bed of greens, which was so good! Most places I've been to serve seared Tuna cold, but the Tuna was served warm not to mention you actually get a good amount of fish. Also had a cappuccino which was tasty as well. Mango Mule ($7) - Mocktail - Sweet and refreshing non-alcoholic beverage Grilled Jerk Shrimp ($14) - Containing jalapeño pineapple salsa - Only had a slight kick due to some regular clienteles complaining about the heat level - The jerk shrimp along with the sweet and juicy pineapple was a fantastic combo. The Grilled Summer Tart was one of my favourite items that day. It had an arugula pesto, grilled zucchini, roasted peppers, and herbed goat cheese. This summer start actually looked like an open-face sandwich and was very healthy and made with fresh ingredients. All of the ingredients went so well together and I especially liked the herbed goat cheese and the flakey pastry of the tart. The herbed goat cheese was my favourite part of the Grilled Summer Tart! The Compressed Watermelon & Feta Salad had an artisanal lettuce bouquet, basil, mint, edible flowers, aged balsamic drizzle, and olive oil. The ingredients in this were also very fresh and high-quality. It looked so beautiful and colourful too. The edible flowers were delicate orange petals that actually didn't have a detectable flavour at all. The cutest part of this salad was the cubed watermelon that was topped with feta cheese. P and I both thought this combination of sweet juicy watermelon paired with feta was an interesting one. When you have the juicy watermelon paired with the feta, it makes the feta taste differently than when you eat the two separately. The Pickerel was paired with creamy Jerusalem artichoke, French beans, and shaved fennel. This was another beautifully presented dish that looked like fine dining food. The piece of pickerel was topped with the shaved slices of fennel and sat on top of the French beans and artichoke. This seafood dish was the second favourite dish for me. I loved how fresh, moist, and juicy the pickerel was. The seasoning wasn't strong at all which gave way to the freshness of the fish. I was thoroughly delighted with how great the pickerel was prepared and cooked. Kudos to the chef for preparing such a perfect piece of fish! ^_^ We also liked the French beans (so fresh and crunchy) and I liked the shaved fennel. The creamy Jerusalem artichoke was wonderful too and I wish I had a spoon on the side to scoop more of it up to go with each bite. The Strawberry Shortcake was not your typical kind of shortcake in a cake form. Instead, it arrived in a cute dessert sandwich presentation. It was made with a shortcake biscuit, pastry cream, strawberry compote, crème Anglaise, and Chantilly cream. It was a really cute dessert! To be honest, the only reason I wanted to come here was to take a photo for Instagram. I really don't see the allure of this place after coming, the food is quite overpriced and not the best quality for what you're paying. Every meal was between $20-$30. I think I was tempted by one of their Holt Burgers for around $19, but I ultimately decided it probably wouldn't be as good as a place who specializes in burgers, so I just went for a safe option of fries (they were around $8 each). The wanted to try both options of fries they offer, sweet potato and truffle. I have to say they both tasted nice, but the sauce tasted better than the fries so that was a bit of a turn off for me. The truffle fries seemed like they had been left out and reheated and the inside had a quite dry texture when you eat it. The sweet potato were crispy and fresh on the other hand, they just weren't seasoned properly and didn't have much flavor. The waiter was pretty much never there, I was the only person in the place so he was in the back the majority of the time. The only time I saw him was when I placed my order, received the fries, and when I tried to pay - I believe I was there around 45-60 minutes. What can you expect at a dead place though? I probably won't be coming back here as it was just way too overpriced and the location isn't amazing, but it was an interesting experience, and I have a nice photo now. LOL read more

The Cafe is located is located on the 2nd level at the back of the women's shoe department. Upon entry the doorways are lined with the daily menu, so you can decide before hand whether entering this cafe is your cup of tea or not. The cafe itself is quite beautiful. Like a modern diner, with retro red chairs that swivel, it gives off almost a lounge feel with the sleek grey couches lining one side, a bar on the other, and banquettes that allow you to take views of Bloor street below. I came here for an early dinner, just about 6 pm on a Monday and the cafe was pretty dead. Including myself and my dinner mate there were 2 other females seated in the cafe. Our cheerful waiter told us to sit where ever we please and graciously brought us over the menu. Before laying eyes on the menu she asked to take our drink order. We asked if there was a drink menu and she alerted us it was on the back of the menu. They have an extensive wine/champagne list as well as some delicious cocktail options. However as soon as I laid eyes on the Iced Lemonade I had to have it. She soon returned with our drinks and helped us settle on 2 sandwiches The Holt Burger which is a cafe favourite and one of there specialty sandwiches called Les Tartines - A classic French open-faced sandwich on Poilâne Bread, a rustic sourdough "boule" that is toasted and served with a variety of delicious and fresh ingredients, we opted for the grilled chicken breast version. Iced Lemonade - Very refreshing, nice and tart with a bit of pulp. Completely enjoyed this. Grilled Chicken Breast Tartine - with red pepper, arugula, truffle honey and chêvre. This was totally not what I expected. The chicken breast was sliced very thinly and laid upon the toasted sourdough that was spread with the chevre and honey and topped with a heaping pile of arugula and slivers of red peppers. It was very difficult to eat, steak knife and fork required, I had to saw through the crust of the bread which was really tough but the bread itself was soft and tasty. However I just found it too hard to eat and I didn't enjoy the combination of ingredients and all the arugula was like a salad on my sandwich. Holts Burger - with smoked bacon, Gouda, onion marmalade, and garlic aïoli. I totally understand why this is a cafe favourite! Burger was very flavourful, thick patty, cooked perfectly medium-well, good bun held together really well, and I thoroughly enjoyed the combination of toppings. A very good burger indeed! Truffle Potato Chips - with sea salt and chives. This was my side with the burger, another cafe favourite. They were pretty tastey however I found some chips to be a little overdone. Onto to Dessert, as a PB lover I definitely knew what I wanted! Reese's Pieces Ice Cream - with chocolate truffle bar and peanutbutter cookie crumbs. This was also a cafe favourite. The icecream taste exactly like reese's pieces and the truffle bar with peanutbutter cookie crumbs tasted exactly like a peanutbutter cup however it was lacking the silkyness of the milk chocolate. I also ordered a Tea which came in a cute little white pot but it was probably the most bitter tea I've ever drank, it was palatable but far from the best. Overall not a terrible meal, a good place to drop in for a bite after perusing Holt's. The plating here is gorgous, service was pretty spot on, but the food is hit or miss. I'd stick to odering Cafe Favourites which are highlighted on the menu with stars and the dessert selection and cocktails are safe bets too! read more

Came here around 5pm for a quick bite before dinner because we were starving! There was two other tables when we arrived and pretty quiet. The host let us picked our seats which was nice because I like sitting by the window so I can look outside. We ordered 500mL of Pinot Noir Joseph Drouhin - it was fantastic as well as truffle chips (chives, grana padano), a holts club (grilled chicken, bacon, fontina, avocado, spicy mayo and arugula) and the holts burger (aged white cheddar, bacon, sauteed mushrooms and roasted garlic aioli). Truffle chips tasted like kettle cooked chips but a little too salty for my liking. The holts burger was exactly what it sounds like - just a burger. It was really well made for a burger but it was still just a burger. I didn't really like the holts club not only because it was an open faced sandwich but it was also dry. The grilled chicken looked more like chicken cold cuts than grilled chicken if anything. Our server (I forgot to get his name), was fantastic. Servers are always friendly, and food is always nice. If we started our Holt's Cafe experience with their Yorkdale location, we would never have come here. We came here discovered the Yorkdale location made a mistake of overcharging my wife's ICON benefit on things we did not get to order. They take pride in the brand and actually comp our lunch as an apology on behalf of the Yorkdale location. Their menu change all the time, so you may not be able to order exactly what we had. We ordered the Duck Confit on Pretzel bread, and Miso Black Cod. The duck was seasoned perfectly and the combination ingenious. The Black Cod was seasoned well and the touch of Kimchi sauce was just perfect. We, of course, finished with the frozen chocolate soufflé. Never disappointed. Yorkdale Holt's Cafe should REALLY change learn from these folks before they ruin the brand for good. read more

Absolutely gorgeous food. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to lunch - you will not be disappointed. Every time we go, we have the BEST meal and a wonderful time. The staff are fantastic and really take care of you. I also have a bunch of dietary restrictions, and they are so respectful and accommodating. Always a treat to have lunch here!!!! read more

I am absolutely disappointed with this place. My plate came COVERED in a dusty and HAIRY residue. The proposed solution was to re-plate it which I think is utterly heinous. I guess they thought I would be okay with eating just the top layer of food and leaving the bottom. Really? The worst part was that it actually smelled absolutely delicious and I was starving. I thought the chef here was the same guy that helped rundown restaurants turn things around... I hope this is not the sort of quality assurance he teaches the other places. read more

Conveniently located and with such good looking food - cute little desserts, and all kinds of panini sandwiches and salads. We tried the grilled vegetable panini - the veggies were a good portion of peppers and eggplant and perfectly grilled. The pesto, brie and chicken panini was great too - the pesto was delicious with a generous slice of brie on the sandwich The sandwich bread was quite a lot of bread and kind of empowered the rest of the sandwich. Although the sandwiches were enjoyable i kind of like the Starbucks paninis better - OMG can i say that?!!! read more

Came here for a birthday lunch with a friend. I ordered the house citrus smoked salmon tartine and she ordered the creamy chicken pot pie. We both got iced teas as well. Definitely a very enjoyable meal. The food was absolutely scrumptious. I really loved my tartine a lot! It was a lot of food for both of us. We couldn't finish our lunches, but we still somehow managed to polish off 2/3 of an apple and crandberry crumble shared between us! I love the decor of this cafe. Really beautiful and light, with a great view of Bloor street down below. Our server was so attentive and very good. He was able to recite the daily specials and was even able to explain the dishes more to us when we asked. Definitely a plus! This is a place I will come back to for more great food! read more
