I firmly believe in giving more chances and updating my reviews up or down accordingly. Sadly, in this case, the review has gone downhill completely. We went there again and ordered burgers with no onions or lettuce. The burgers came with onions and lettuce. Ok. No big deal. Mistakes happen. But, being sensitive to onions, and not even wanting any remnant taste, we asked them to remake the burgers from scratch. The burgers came back, clearly just having the onions and lettuce scraped off, rather than remaking them, because there are still some onions. This is a bad sign, and we nearly walked out then and there for not remaking them from scratch. But the server was super nice, and said she'd take care of everything and comp the meal. It wasn't about the money, but we appreciated the gesture and stayed. What happens next? They come back with new burgers, and the server stayed to make sure they were correct this time. My wife takes her first bite from the fresh burger, and partially swallows a huge thick long ugly hair full of cheese and junk, and pulls the thing out of her mouth and puts it on the table. Disgusting. This happened right in front of the server who couldn't stop apologizing. The person at the next table was equally disgusted and nearly walked out the door (which is exactly what we did). I see Holt's gets great reviews from most others. But not from our family. We won't be giving another chance after this. If our server ever reads this, hey, I'm so sorry we had to just walk out at that point. You deserved a big tip, even if the meal itself was at no charge. But after 3 strikes, sorry, we just couldn't do much more for a meal we didn't even eat. read more

It's just okay. I've gotten the chopped salad, and the grilled cheese with tomato soup the past couple times I've been here. Chopped salad was not very good...it was drowning in onions. Grilled cheese was good (how can you screw that up though?), but tomato soup was bad. I think Holts is a great place to go for a drink after work and a bite to eat! Whenever I pass by they usually have a pretty long wait so making a reservation is the best idea! I went for my first time a few weeks back with my boyfriend. He got a steak sandwich and I got a cheese burger. We both ordered beers & when he received his the glass wasn't completely clean around the rim, so when we told our waitress, she got a new one for him right away. When it was time for the bill she took both of our beers off the tab which was extremely nice of her. Just for that kind gesture we will be coming back! read more

Can't figure this one out.... We had this place picked out a week ahead of time. Day of we call two hours ahead of time asking to put a reservation for two at 6:30. They tell us no they don't take reservations until 9:30pm that night. Okay fast forward to 6pm we walk in, place is half full and we're told one hour wait (they don't even mention the bar that has two people at it), and as we're walking out a family of four walks in saying they have a reservation. Sorry, we won't be trying you any time soon. Maybe when you have a Groupon we might come back, but given this experience I can only imagine the stipulations on the Groupon. read more

Wow, what a let down. I have been waiting for this place to open up for awhile now and was excited when I called to conform that they were open for business, after seeing their "soft" opening private party last week. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was far from crowded, and my family and I was seated quickly. The menu is small and very unappealing looking, a plain laminated piece of paper. Not many inviting salad options, and no where is it apparent that a protein can be added for an up charge. 8 minutes and some odd seconds after being seated without any attention, a manager walks over to ask if we had been helped, and was told that we had not been and that their time was short before we walked out. He apologized and took our drink order and after the delivery we were once again left w/o being able to ask questions or order food. There seemed to be confusion over who our server actually was; as one was seated at another table chit chatting away and the one that delivered our drinks did not return until she was sent back to us. We then ordered, nothing crazy; cheese curds and wings for apps, and three burgers and the grilled cheese w/bacon and tomato soup, with a side order salad in place of the french fries. The curds were fantastic! The kids said that they melted in their mouths, and were excited that they were not overly breaded. The wings looked good, I ordered Hot, but they had very little flavor. The "gorgonzola" dressing as the menu stated comes in the form of a mousse, not a traditional dipping sauce. Mistake kids, you are NOT a fine dining downtown restaurant, and you do not serve "mousse" with wings. My wife and kids stated that their burgers were salty, and after tasting one I agreed, there is not a heavy salt taste at first, but I definitely got that high salt lingering taste a few seconds after the initial bite. The grilled cheese was good, nice presentation and flavorful, served on a nicely grilled sourdough with a very nice cut of bacon. However the tomato soup was more like a thick puree, and not even warm, that a soup. It was lacking flavor, but I used it more for dipping that I did for eating as I would normally eat soup. As we left the hostess gave my wife a dirty look, as she had been "chastised" earlier by I assume a manager who took our drink order after waiting for a long period of time. Another tip; You are in Park Ridge, use real glassware for water and soft drinks, not plastic. Not sure about the whole "communal" table idea in Park Ridge, but I hope it works for you. You blew it guys; nice thought, horrible execution. You won't make it a year at this rate, I wish you luck. read more

I came here on a Friday night for some dessert, however when we got there, the server said they were out of cookies, ice cream, and pretty much all of the their dessert. We ended up getting the burrata appetizer which was pretty good, not special. The service was a bit slow and they didn't seem to be that busy either. They do have outdoor seating which is nice on a nice summer night. There were some items on the menu that I'd like to come back and try. Hopefully next time I come, they'll have some dessert. read more

This place is just okay. The food was something you can make at home. I got the burrata sandwich (which by the way isn't a sandwich) it's literally a slice of Texas toast with avocado slices & and a big scoop of burrata and old radishes. (If you're serving avocado toast just say that ) don't try to pass it off as a sandwich. Deceiving. But the service??? There was 2 girls working one behind the bar & one on the floor and they barely did anything at all. The girl who sat me threw my menus on the table and then when I asked her if I could sit at the bar she said yeah & then left my menus sitting at the table instead of bringing them to the bar... so I picked them up myself and put them at the bar myself. Then the girl behind the bar took forever to come greet us... when she did she took our order because by that time we were ready. I also ordered a drink and she didn't bring it out till 20 mins later right before my food came out. When the food came out the 2 just threw it on the bar top and walked away. Honestly it was just a weird experience I'm not sure if these two have worked there long enough to just feel like they can act and do whatever and they're just too comfortable in their workplace or if this place just sucks in general. I was a waitress at a sports bar for 4 years so I know what things should be like. These girls SUCKED. & they stood at the end of the bar gossiping the whole time instead of working. Love this place! We go there all the time! Cocktail menu is very interesting and the cocktails are always delicious. Pizzas, burgers, salads, etc. are wonderful! Service staff is experienced and friendly, although occasionally slow because they are almost always busy. This busyness can also make this place fairly loud -- but that's because this place is fun and happening. Sidewalk patio seating is the best outdoor seating in Park Ridge. Interior decor is on par with similar great casual restaurants in Chicago. I highly recommend! read more

I have been here twice now. At both visits the food was really good. I've had their burger which was perfectly done and very tasty, and a salad which was fresh and ample and also very good. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean and modern. On both occasions, the servers were professional, friendly and attentive. They had great suggestions and polished presentation. I would definitely recommend Holts. P.S. Also loved that the owner (or manager) was on site and making the rounds of the restaurant checking on the customer satisfaction. read more

Met a friend for drinks and dinner this week. The location is great and I had no issues finding it or getting there from the western suburbs. We were seated at a large table near the window and presented with dinner menus. However we did not get a drink menu. I ordered the house cab and my friend ordered the Shiraz. Both were excellent. We split the chopped salad and grape goat cheese pizza. Both were spectacular. I'm eating the left over pizza as I write this review. Still delicious 2 days later!! Our server was attentive and kind. The manager is super rude and ignorant. The bald guy that yells at patrons and talks about customers to other customers has to go!!! Awful service except a few nice waitresses and women bartenders. This place is definitely your neighborhood chill spot. They don't have an extensive cocktail list but they do a great on the beer selection. Food you might expect here is different types of pizza - including build your own - also, salads, tacos and sandwiches. The menu isn't huge but it's satisfying. Wouldn't recommend this for a first time date but a chill date with your significant other would be good here since they have a cute outdoor sitting are over looking the library and some of the uptown Park Ridge area. Employees are nice, but beware sometimes service is slow, so come here with patience. If you need to go somewhere where you can just have a drink and go - don't pick this place (hence the rating, unfortunately). I'm definitely coming back though. Visited Holt's for tree third time 08/31/16 and hoped the service speed improved since our trip in late spring. It didn't. Despite a far less-than-capacity dinner crowd, the time between sit down to order placement to entree delivery was nearly 30+ minutes. It didn't appear the servers were understaffed... they just can't seem to get their act together when it comes to prompt and attentive service. Otherwise, the food was good although the menu is somewhat limited but the pricing seemed reasonable. Overall, if Holt's level of service improves I believe this could be a 3 or 4-star eatery. read more

Had breakfast....Pancakes and bacon were good...HAd dinner on two occasions...Hamburger was just all right...Steak sandwich was so under cooked, when I ordered it well done. Multiple times I've walked in to eat and they claim they are completely booked, even though there are TONS of open tables. However, the wait time is usually way less than they predict. As a reviewer with food allergies, they have a lot of gluten free options. Every sandwich can be made gluten free. I had a gluten free steak sandwich and it was delicious. Side salad with house dressing was really tasty. Also tried a gluten free pizza - very good! Very reasonably priced and the pizza is one of the best GF pizzas I have had. Waitstaff is friendly and it's a fun cozy location. Easy parking, near Metra and very clean. Also inside and outside seating! I will be back for sure! read more

I went here on a work lunch with my office and the food is delicious! The salads are so huge that you could seriously share it between two people and still be full. The atmosphere is really fun and inviting. I haven't gone here during their busy times, so I have no idea what the wait is like. We had reservations at 12:15pm and the place was busy, but there were still plenty of seats for walk-ins. The service is friendly too! read more

We have been to Holts many times and have enjoyed our meals very much. I pretty much always go for the salmon BLT. Last visit my daughter and her dad shared the buffalo chicken pizza and it was great. We only have one complaint - the noise level. Even our 4.5 year old grandson was upset because the music was too loud. I miss restaurants where you could hear someone across the table with music playing SOFTLY in the background. I think it's ridiculous that we have to shout across the table. Please turn down the music or add some fabric! read more

This place has been a staple to DT PR since it opened. All the food is great especially all the pizzas! They'll make you any drink you can think of and their craft beers are top notch. So I'd give Holt's a 4.5 out of 5. As others have said, "Holt's is exactly what Park Ridge and the surrounding area needs." Its an actual bar, something the city of Park Ridge has fought for years. (The city -- not generally the residents of the city). Anyway, lots of mixed reviews it seems. I think this place did a fantastic job! I've been here about half a dozen times now. Pizza is really good, the bar is great, with some interesting micro-brews. The atmosphere is hip and relaxed, and caters to a family equally as well as a person who is just looking to go and have an appetizer and drink with a friend. Casual sophisticated would be a good description. The location is to die for in PR. A lot of complains here about the menu being limited, which in my opinion I don't agree with. Its a pizza pub, and they have a reasonably good selection of pizza and pub food. Its not advertised as an Italian restaurant, and as such, I don't expect a full menu of Italian food. Very good pizza and pub food. The burger is wonderful, and the pizza is unique to this place with a great flavor and crust. The cheese curds are amazing, and I feel in general the prices are in-line with the area. A few things were out of wack, including the bruschetta, but most were what I expected. Honestly, the cheese curds I thought were a steal, given what even a Culvers charges for curds. (And these were SOOOOO much better). So why the 4.5, well, I agree that the seating is just wonky. You almost always are sitting with other people you don't know at a long table. They could have had more tables with a better configuration. There seems to be a lot of wasted space the way they have it now. Additionally, the place gets crowded, (which is awesome that they are doing good). The problem is that the acoustics of the place amplify this. I'm not looking for a french restaurant quiet here, but it gets really loud and difficult to hear when it's packed. Finally, the service is still a bit inconsistent, but it's clearly getting better. Everyone has always been super nice, but they seem, during the rush times at night, to be under wait-staffed. (Though the food always comes quickly). I look forward to having a beer here in the summer when they have the windows open in the front on Prospect! read more

My family lives the pizza here. The taco pizza is a winner. I love the salads and sandwiches. Outdoor seating is at a premium on nice days. They have have large retractable glass doors so even if you sit inside it has a great open feeling. Then had a good live band one night when we were there. read more

Went here to hang out with friends. Took an hour to get the the first round of drinks. Food came out fine. No check in for the next 45 mins for refills or refreshers. We had asked for separate checks in the beginning and then the separation of the checks was a mess, she has to take them all back to reorganize and then gave us the exact same checks back. Took her another 20 mins to pick up the checks. Then we had another friend join us and asked to place another order for drinks and she said to us that she was done for the night and then left. She then came back after 10 mins and took the drink order. I don't get it. Why such bad service? read more

Oh my goodness, the worst customer service ever. Our waitress introduced herself at the beginning of the night, then would walk by our table every 2 minutes but never say anything. Our dinner that took 2 hours should've been a 30 min meal. I was so excited for the food, all the options seemed amazing and I decided to go with the fish tacos. First of all, the portion size is ridiculous and it such an ugly presentation, it was like someone slapped it on there and said "here ya go! Ready to eat!" Second of all, my friend got the kale salad and it just looked soooo dry. 95% kale and 5% other toppings. She had to ask for another side of dressing and I don't think that did anything either. We went on a Friday night at 6:30PM, so I understand that it's going to be loud, but wow, they could've turned the music down a tad. Thought I was going to need a hearing screening at the end of the night. I usually don't write bad reviews, but this place was so disappointing. Food was awesome here on 3 visits and plan on coming back often. GF pizza and GF buns and both are great. Aged Steak sandwich was amazingly flavorful and fairly tender. Fries here a au-natural and taste great. Pizza's are very creative and I need to try them all one day. Service was just as great as well. I tried the Rueben w/ grilled vegetables. Do not recommend the Reuben at all. Could barely taste the 1000 island dressing and the cheese was scarce too. The corned beef was cut thick and tasted like it was fried. Not tender or flavorful at all. The bread crust had a burnt flavor which was a downer. The grilled veggies were ok - had some good flavor going on but needed to be grilled a little longer - some zucchini was kind of hard. The Mac and cheese lobster was gross! I don't know what they use in the cheese that they serve. The steak sandwich and the custom burger were so dry! It's was a total of $88 dollars without tip.
