We chose to sit downstairs where there was open high-top seating. The dining area was a bit warm, likely due to the AC struggling to keep up with the 90-degree weather outside, which is understandable. We'll definitely return when it's cooler out. Service was excellent--friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I had the build-your-own burger with bacon and pork roll, which was hearty and full of flavor. The sweet chili wings were another highlight. My fiancée ordered the chicken sandwich with maple hot sauce on the side, and that sauce ended up being so good I added it to my burger as well. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE! Is it fancy ? Nope is it new ? Nope? Trendy ? Nope Basically it's a local neighborhood bar and there's really nothing about the dated decor that stands out but who cares I'm not here for culture. I'm here for the wings. Not only are the wings great they're the best around. They beat out all of the "famous" local places. I'm pretty much a wing expert at this point and I wouldn't steer you wrong. The Chiodi sauce is amazing. I tried a few of their other sauces and honestly they're all great. The service here is really good too. Back to this being a neighborhood bar. I'm not from the neighborhood I'm a stranger who stops in. Specifically for the wings and a couple of cold ones either with friends not from the neighborhood or my wife and we never once felt unwelcome. Dive bar in every sense of the term and probably the best around. I've been here about a dozen or so times and probably become a once a week regular. Stopped in after a festival at proprietors park. As a pescatarian the menu was extremely limited. A vegetarian would have no options except for pizza without a modification. The beer menu was pretty good so that was a plus. The service was good. As far as the food I got fish and chips which was two small strips of cod and a basket full of chips. They should call it chips and fish. They also didn't have malt vinegar which apparently is in one bottle for the entire bar as told by our server and it wasn't to be found. read more

We ordered takeout through Uber eats from the spot for the Thursday night Eagles game. We wanted wings, but we wanted good wings. These wings definitely did not disappoint. We opted for 20 wings 10 each divided between two sauces one hot garlic sauce, and the second the house sauce which has won awards for them. The wings or fried perfectly and sauced just enough. We also ordered the fried mozzarella, which was fresh and crispy even on delivery and the french fries which in fairness were wet when they came, but to be expected after delivery. Otherwise this is a good stop I think on my next trip I prefer to go there. The wings were good. They were super savory finger, licking good. It definitely was more expensive through Uber eats because their fees added on, but all in all good option when we didn't feel like getting dressed and going to the restaurant. The delivery was prompt and courteous. All of the items were there as ordered. I can't comment on the ambience since we didn't eat there. Definitely try this place when you're in the mood for wings. First time visiting here, I did get this sandwich today with an order of wings. The sandwich was good, but I did not get a side of horseradish sauce or a side of ajus as advertised (). The wing sauce was tasty, but there wasn't any dipping side, you have to pay extra for it apparently. I was very disappointed because I had to call to follow up on my order, I did get a text saying the order was received, but not confirmed, I missed the Eagles kick off.... I thought it was probably because they were busy but when I got there, they weren't that busy. Hopefully it was just a computer glitch. I've heard good things about this place so I'll give them another try but the food was good. We ducked in for an early dinner on this drizzly summer night and ordered the appetizer sampler, and then the four of us each our own flavor of wings. A bright sign beacons and a mailed out coupon invites but what you will discover when you get to this industrial neighborhood is a working class neighborhood bar that is clearly trying to be discovered by a new audience. The dudes gathered outside the door were a clear sign as to what awaited us inside. These guys can be found a bars across the globe ... a bit scary .. a bit welcoming ... clearly bar regulars and they welcomed us with a smile. I have to admit that the coupon mailed out to folks across South Jersey is a bit ok more than a bit MISLEADING because its imagery implies that folks hungry for a new place to bring the family for dinner will be disappointed by the limited number of tables that connect to the walls opposite the very long bar that has gathered drinking elbows for generations. Oh, if these walls could speak. The music rocked our ears before the vibration of the tunes shook our bodies. Yes ... IT's LOUD! What did you say? HUH? And, what's up with the inflated lady strewn next to the entrance (She was pretty much fully clothed but left me wondering.)? But, what a cool bar ... what a great divey atmosphere and friendly service with an amazing beer list to choose from. And, so this becomes a difficult review to make because some folks want a peaceful place to enjoy dinner. Some families don't want to be in the midst of hard drinking neighbors who clearly know each other but others enjoy the DIVE. So, FYI ... the Publick House lost a star for the coupon's images that I felt were deceiving. The inability to hear was another deficit to the rating. But, on to the food. This is a pub menu not gourmet eating. Our small group went two ways ... I chose the special sandwich plus the soup of the day but the others went for the roast beef and gravy over white bread with a side veggie and onion rings. Friendly service and the soup arrived timely. I went for their potato, cheese, and bacon soup. I liked it but ... the broth was thin but in a change of pace the potato came from quarters of potato floating in the tasty broth. The cheddar didn't add too much of a cheese flavor but bacon always work. So, it's a soup I would order again but I was told that they don't have soup spoons ... and the cup was served without a saucer just a cup. But, I was fine. So we waited ... now there were not a lot of folks at the bar to eat and we ordered basically sandwiches ... we waited ... now the music was loud and we admired the long bar and took a look at the college games on the tv screens above the bar ... and we waited. Now, I am not the impatient type and my ears were numb but the wait was rather a long wait for the meal but as the roast beef was delivered it was like a nice WOW look. The roast beef ... oh wait, I forgot to mention the menu says it comes with spinach or the vegetable of the day. When those ordering asked what the vegetable of the day was they were told spinach (No broccoli available?). Now back to the delivery ... the spinach was bright green and the sandwich looked so good that I was wishing I had joined the other two in the selection. And the rings OH MY so good with this dipping sauce that was a perfect treat. I know that if I come back for a beer I will order the onion rings and I was glad my dining partners were the type to share. My sandwich of the day was good; an interesting blend of meats, cheese, and long hots but it lacked a side. No chips .. no rings ... no fries. And, it was a bit "dry." But I really liked it ... The band was coming for later and they play upstairs. I didn't go upstairs but I have a feeling that this classic bar really rocks when the music is live and the neighborhood gets energized. We were glad we gave the Publick House a try! My ears have returned to a hearing level ... and I am wondering if I can recreate that dipping sauce. read more

Holy City Publick House has 75 cent wings on Thursday's. They gave me a random follow on instagram so I randomly popped in for a first time. 10 wings and a cold Yuengling for 10 bucks, not a bad deal at all! Bartenders were super nice and helpful. Not a long wait either. Wings are naked, perfectly sized as they arent too small and they arent too big, extra crispy skin without being over done. I got these extra hot but if you have a decent spice tolerance, they arent spicy at all. If you are local to Gloucester, I recommend giving them a visit. The lady next to me was having a burger that looked really good too. Almost scared to say this, but they have a miniature charm of Connie Macs back in their hay day before things went downhill. read more

Service is so slow.......... Took forever to be initially approached. The bar was also so dark, we had to ask them to turn up the lights so we could read our menus. Food was mediocre, bordering on bad. We got the sampler plate, it's deep fried onion rings, etc. -- but the breading was so dark and so overwhelming. When was the last time the oil was changed? French fries were also laughably bad. Limp, skinny strings that were cold upon arrival ! Our cheeseburgers were also tasteless. No care put into food prep at all. We were never offered napkins, had to ask for them repeatedly. Bartenders seemed to do it all, food and drinks, and they were all very, very slow. No sense of urgency to keep customers satisfied. Stopped in after the St Patrick's Parade for something to eat. Got the fish and chips the batter was light and crispy. The fish was moist and flaky. Probably one of best I have had. The food is out of this world. We recommend the cheesesteaks, which are huge, extremely tasty and full of meat. Also, the mozzarella sticks appear to be freshly cut. They are big long blocks of cheese, instead of the little round sticks that you get at most pubs. Mark was our bartender and by far one of the best bartenders around. He consistently checked up on us, making sure we had everything we needed and our glasses were full. He is super friendly, knows the area well and always has a smile. It's a family oriented pub that has plenty of choices for the kids but changes to more of a bar atmosphere later at night. Something here for everyone. We have been twice now and for will be going back. We have found our new "go to" spot for a bit of relaxation. You can't beat a $2 lager!!! read more

Always great service, cold beer, well made mixed drinks, amazing and friendly bartenders and some of the best food in this area.. only thing I'd change about the place is having it bigger, especially on Thursday nights for wing night, the upstairs should be open more often for fitting more customers cause there have been many Thursday nights my hubby and I have tried going in for a few beers and dinner and couldn't get a seat at all and it was always such a let down. But I do know making the place bigger to fit more people is not a rather easy thing to do so I made sure not to take any stars away for that reason. More than a restaurant. Bar too. First trip here, everything is new and fresh. Decor is a bit sparse and the tvs are almost at the top of a 15 foot ceiling. Looking around all food is served in baskets and pizza on plastic trays, with plastic plates. Bartender was friendly and a bit older but seemed nice. Chairs in the dining are the usual banquet metal chairs. I ordered the stuffed long hots and boneless wings in honey bbq appetizers cause it was happy hour. 1/2 off but not the wings. All good. The long hots were chopped chicken i think with a layer of cheese. Good but not return worthy. The wings were the better of the two appetizers. I would come back to give it a second shot since its so close to home. But not a destination if your looking for something special. read more

The upstairs has another dining area plus an outside deck. We were there for Saturday/Sunday afternoon day-drinking, the crowd was a mix of late 20's to 50's (not sure what it is like at night time) Beer: A decent selection of bottles and draft. The craft beer inventory isn't the largest but is the best in the area! On our visit we enjoyed Weyerbacher Merry Monks as well as the Yards Brawler. Food: The sandwich/appetizer offerings are typical south Jersey bar-food. As another Yelper indicated, most of your sandwich type items are all served on paper/plastic plates/baskets...certainly not a deal-breaker but this place is nice enough that it deserves a step-up with nicer dinnerware. Judging from the Facebook page, they seem to make some tasty entrée items that I would like to try next time. Staff: Our servers and bartenders are friendly and proficient. We've been here several times with friends that like to go, the beer is always cold but this time when there with friends we had ordered food from the menu. Every one of us could not eat the french fries on our plates because they were ice cold as soon as they arrived. I guess me requesting extra crispy on the fries, I jinxed myself? This may not seem like a big deal to most but our bill was $139 plus we gave the waitress (who was sweet btw) a 30 dollar tip. I'm simply not impressed with the food. I've been here several times and the food has gotten progressively worse since it has opened. On busy days, finding a way to the bar to get a drink can be a difficult task. If they had a full bar upstairs it would greatly alleviate the congestion.
