There was no need for sauce because they stood up well as they were. You order at the counter and the meal is delivered to you. After a round of disc golf down at the state park, I wanted to check out some BBQ in the area. Holy Smokes (what a great name, Batman) was the closest and highest rated. I had to try it out. Holy Smokes is in what looks like a shack. There are about 5 tables and 30 chairs. Restrooms are on the left. There is a shelf with merchandise to buy. There is one TV and the counter and kitchen takes up the rest of the restaurant. You order at the counter and menus are at the counter. I ordered the baby back rib plate with hot slaw and baked potato salad and a pulled pork sandwich with slaw and pickles. There are no combo plates : ( The pulled pork sandwich came out first. The sandwich was the item I enjoyed the most. The pulled pork was seasoned really well and was soooo tender. I had to wait a little bit for my ribs but it was worth it. I ordered my ribs dry. The ribs were easy to pull apart and chew. It looked like the rub included black pepper, paprika, and oddly, looked like Parmesan cheese. Whatever they put on the ribs, the ribs were fabulous. I picked hot slaw as a side because it sounded unique. Basically, it's slaw with tomatoes and a little spicy. It was ok but I wouldn't get it again. I liked the baked potato salad but what I love about Holy Smokes is that there were 4 different potato salads to order. That's what I am talking about haha There are 2 BBQ sauces that are homemade. Both are ketchup base. The original is a mildly sweet sauce. The hot has peppers and was more like a medium heat. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! This isn't the first time here, but it may be the last. No smoke flavor in pork, little dab of sour cream on potato and red bbq sauce that looks like ketchup. This place was always hopping when I would drive by. I decided to take the dive today and I was pleasantly surprised. The dining room is small, only about 5 tables. There are TVs for entertainment and a little rack with souvenirs. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich plate which came with 2 sides and a large fountain drink. Reasonably priced around $13. The pulled pork was flavorful on its on and the small portion of sauce provided was a great compliment. The baked beans were good, not homemade but not straight from the can either. I also had fries, which were good. Overall, good meal for a decent price. I will stop again and would recommend to any person looking for a good BBQ joint in a small town. My only negative to the visit is the lack of a combo platter, which is a staple of most BBQ places, because I like to sample multiple meats on each visit. read more

This place makes you feel like family. The food is amazing but the service is better than Chik fil a. I said it. Left my debit card at the register and came back a week later and they knew me. My wife and I had lunch there. It was a great experience from the time we walked in until we waddled out. The young lady behind the counter was a delight. Very pleasant, and very polite. We then ended up speaking to another employee, a gentleman. I have no idea whether he was a cook or the owner. But he was very kind. My wife has a disability, and she really can't eat pulled pork. She needs it smaller, like minced. Unfortunately, she has no feeling in her fingers, and she asked if perhaps they could chop it up for her. They did without a word of complaint or questioning. The food was delicious. I had baby back ribs, and I left absolutely nothing. The baked beans were delicious. And the green beans were some of the best I've ever had. There was no meat in them, but they had a hint of a bacony taste. They also had a bit of a bite to them, again, I left nothing. My wife had the pork plate with potato salad, and loved it. And I suspect their homemade banana pudding is on the dessert menu in Heaven. If that was all there was to the afternoon, it would've been great. But the place has a very welcoming, down-home feel to it. We talked about local football, including a young man who had been badly injured, and they were helping to raise money for him. In short, everything about our afternoon here was great. It's my second time here. It's a bit of a drive from Nashville, but well worth it. We'll be back at some point soon. read more

It was the worst. We went because of reviews. Oh my gosh, people really like this? I ordered a brisket sandwich - lean side of brisket. They had no idea what I was talking about. Obviously. This wasn't beef brisket. It tasted like fake meat or turkey brisket. It wasn't beef. One bite - threw the rest away after my husband tried and agreed. The bun of sandwich was the poorest quality bun. French fries were good. BBQ wrap my husband had - tolerable, not great. Just not good. Service - gal taking order not so friendly. Maybe just busy. First off, no Amex even though it's on the door. Second, no "Carolina style" mustard BBQ sauce. third, Wilford Brimley sized diabeetus portions of sweet tea was burned. That flavor of over-steeped tea kind of burnt. Honestly. How do you screw up sweet tea at a BBQ place? This is as important as the sauce. Meat was slightly dry which was disappointing based off of the other reviews I read. Staff was polite which I really appreciate a friendly smile when I'm in an unfamiliar town. Not uncommon to run in to great hospitality anywhere in Tennessee - its all part of the charm of the South. First impressions are important, mine was mediocre. (Side note - check out Rooster's Liquidator for great prices on just about anything you can think of.) on the way down, we decided we needed some food so checked out Yelp reviews for a spot nearby. The place is small with a few tables in the dining room and the food is very reasonably priced. We ordered a 1/2 rack with 2 sides and a grilled chicken sandwich plus 2 drinks for less than $17. Wow! We are traveling from Texas to Connecticut and happened to come across this little gem. The different salt and pepper shakers on each table added to its charm. The banana pudding was really yummy. Well biggest reason for the 5 is its a mom n pop in a small town. They make there own BBQ and sauces. The bottles of sauce look like store bought but clearly describe made in chapel hill. Sauces are awesome. Mild is very sweet. Hot is mildley hot but they have a hotter one I think is just tobasco added to it. Very friendly staff but it is the owners. They sell it by the sandwich to the pound. U can buy all there sauces and seasonings, all local, and some they don't make too. The BBQ is very good. U can tell they take pride in there business. They have ribs which will be my next review. Hoping they add brisket tobthe menu soon. read more

Love this place! The first time we went we didn't care to much for it. But we gave it another shot and it was great! We have been there 4 or 5 more times since then and it has been great each time. :) I usually get the loaded fries- with no peppers or corn dip. And it's delicious!
