Thursday night after a hard day's work, a coworker and myself came here for strong drinks and food. We def. were not disappointed. I had their sangria (both red and white..don't judge me) and it was strong but delicious. I ordered the corn on the cob, beef tongue taco, fish taco and brisket taco. Corn on the cob was SO GOOD LAWD. Came atop with cheese, paprika, lime and this sauce...whew it was good. Beef tongue and brisket taco was really good. I didn't like the fish (halibut) taco at all however. Smelled too fishy and just wasn't good. We sat on the outside patio which was great. Wait staff was excellent and attentive Parking can be tricky over here, so be warned. Its East Atlanta so its always best just to park on the street. read more

Sadly, just about everything else -- the food and the price. The tacos were okay. My side of rice was bland. It tasted like rice from the microwave, really. I don't know how "upscale" Holy Taco wants to be, but for Mexican food this bland, they may want to charge a little less. I found the prices for the food to be entirely too high considering how little food you actually get. $2 for a small scoop of pico de gallo? Seriously? I was expecting the food to be much higher in flavor considering how adventurous the menu was, but it was not at all. My taste buds were bored. I left this place feeling terribly unsatisfied. Short rib torta is small but packs a punch not only taste-wise but also it is more filling than its size. One of the tastiest sandwiches I've ever eaten. I don't know what else to say. I liked that the chips here were a little thicker and different from all the other chips you would normally get at other meximerican establishments...the guacamole is delicious as well. Stopped in at Holy Taco for grazing & margaritas on Mon., 12/20 Food/bar: The organic margaritas - made with organic lime & lemon juice & sugar (NOT some freakin' high-fructose corn syrup mix, like most places).... were very good... I had three and a buzz..... We ordered: brisket taco - a bit dry but still tasty; swordfish taco - fried, topped with lettuce and an aioli of sorts, was very good; squid quesadilla was also very good, served with a tasty slaw as well. For sides we ordered the black beans (stewed, with cotija cheese on top) - also very tasty, and also the collard greens (cooked with hot peppers of some kind, I believe?) = DELICIOUS! Service: We sat at the bar and were well-attended to.... Atmosphere: patio looks like it would be a GREAT spring/summer/fall hangout spot.... interior is modern meets elementary school, with the cinder blocks painted a hideous color of guacamole green! This place should be called Holy Enchilada. Best damn enchilada I have ever eaten in my life! Seriously. I love a good oxtail and the oxtail enchilada did not disappoint. The flavors of this dish are outstanding. It's covered in peppers, queso and the enchilada sauce tastes a bit like mole with a slightly sweet - but not too sweet - twist. Unbelievable. And the portion was huge too. The organic margaritas rocked as well. It's the same recipe I use at home, which I got from Bon Apetit. My boyfriend got the Rosalinda margarita which had grapejuice and rosemary. Pretty tasty but too sweet for his taste. The beef torta was quite good and was also filled with black beans and grilled onions. It was on the greasy side, however. We also ordered the swordfish tacos which Yelpers raved about. I wasn't impressed at all and would not re-order them but my boyfriend liked it, he said the slaw really rounded out the dish for him. We also ordered the guac which was fresh but could've used some spice and flavor. For $5 though I would skip it. Our female server was super nice and friendly. No hipster attitude at all. Holy Taco! At our table we had organic margaritas and white sangria, the arrepa, chorizo quesadilla, and braised bacon tacos. All of the food was incredibly tasty, the arrepa was beautifully presented as well. The chorizo quesadilla was delicious if a little greasy, but I guess that is just chorizo and it was really good! A large portion, I took some home. The braised bacon taco was divine. The roasted corn tastes really fresh and just the right char. For you pork aficionados, it is truly lardo (chunks of pork belly) not bacon but we all agreed most people wouldn't bravely order a lardo taco! The patio is really pleasant and the service was good. It wasn't remotely busy, yet my friends had to keep calling our waitress' name and gesturing for her to mosey on over to our table in order to get...anything. Very disappointing. I had the combo 1 and selected a beef tongue taco and their fish taco. Both lacked flavor. The beef tongue was not cooked well at all. When using beef tongue with mild flavor such as plain tomato salsa, more spices are needed to mask the gamey flavor. The chips were a bit on the greasy side and the salsa was flavorless. There was no kick to it whatsoever. The guacamole tasted a little bitter, one of the worst I've had in a while. The only thing I enjoyed eating was their queso. Now I understand why this place is struggling to push a 3.5 on here. With all the taco places popping up left and right, Holy Taco is in serious trouble. read more

We had a great dinner and dining experience. We had the chicken tacos which is a Monday special but not on the menu. It's got a kick to it and it's so tender. The fish tacos rock here! Sometimes we get on a roll of taking our 2-year old daughter here every Friday night. We really love it and we choose it over the other 2 Mexican restaurants right there in EAV because it is child friendly. My husband always loads up on tacos, which are great, but I like to try the fresher, more seasonal items. There is a watermelon salad on the menu right now that had me thinking about it all week. Even the quinoa side dish amazed me. These dishes seem really simple but they are perfection. We'll see you next Friday! read more

Honestly, I really love this place. Their fish tacos and elote are beyond terrific, and the service is excellent. I haven't gone during a super busy time, so I had no problem with wait time. My husband loves the brisket taco and the pork taco--he's also a fan of the cheap budweiser. Chips are a little greasy, but they're thick and homemade--it's to be expected. I was invited here to join some friends for this past Cinco de Mayo. Ready for some good food and alcoholic treats, I had high hopes for our evening. I loved the large patio, and wish we could have sat outside, though we were seated surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, bringing our drinks and orders of chips, salsa, and cheese dip relatively quickly. They were pretty tasty too. However, our main course took literally an hour and a half to arrive after we placed our order. I know it's a busy day, but that's ridiculous. We thought our waiter may have forgotten to submit our order, but after watching tables around us, we were by no means the only ones waiting that long. When our food arrived, it was highly disappointing. I had the pork belly torta which was absolutely disgusting. It was like taking a bite into a bucket of lard. I know pork belly is fatty, but there was no meat, it was 100% fat. My husband, a self-proclaimed connoisseur of pork, literally gagged when he took a bite of my sandwich. His steak taco tasted better (aka edible), but it was nothing he would order again. The tostones were a little ripe for me, but okay. I'm pretty sure I won't be going back any time soon. read more

This place is over rated. I think critics give it bonus points because it has weird tacos on the menu (tongue!?). I tried the tongue taco, it was nothing to write home about. Over three visits, I have also tried all the other tacos. Every single one of the meat tacos was over-stuffed and under garnished. Taqueria Del Sol is still tops for tacos in Atlanta. Probably the best tacos in Atlanta that I've had, though I've only been here for eight months. All other Mexican food experiences here have been disappointing unfortunately. I had: beef brisket taco and pork shoulder taco and my husband had: chicken hearts taco and beef tongue taco. Two tacos are enough to fill you up. I enjoyed the thicker chips. But no free salsa?!?! I know it's kind of a fancier joint, but still. They might also want to try serving some horchata - I know it's a fusion place, but it's almost an expectation for taco joints. From their amazingly delicious tacos (swordfish is to die for!) to the best chips I've had up to date (not to mention free), there is not one dish here that doesn't exceed my expectations. The cool hipster art decorating the walls and floors makes the place funky and enjoyable. Last time I asked, and apparently all of the art is drawn by kids! Holy Taco has a collaboration with a community group that tries and finds opportunities for at-risk-teens to use their time for good. Good food, atmosphere, and philosophy, what else could one ask for :) A few personal favorites: guacamole - chunky fresh and oh so yummy, corn on the cob - best idea EVER to put that cheesy goodness on top, happy hour sangria - what more is there to say? Definitely try the steak taco, avocado salad, the califlower and the organic margarita (it's only $0.75 more and it's half of the calories because of the agave nector as the sweetener). Gross. Worst tacos I've ever had. Do not eat here. Ordered shrimp and chicken tacos, shrimp smelled horrible when I got my plate, tasted worse. Burnt and not at all fresh. Chicken was cold and looked like some shredded bs you buy in a container at the grocery store. Salsa Verde on the chicken was terrible. Could only eat 1 bite from each. And there was a roach on our table just coolin it. Menu looks as if whoever wrote it has dyslexia. Left and went straight to Kroger for pepto bismol. If you want good Mexican food in the area DON'T GO HERE. Go to Tomatillos or El Mexicano, those places I've been many times, quality service and food every time. It's been a while since I wrote the first review of Holy Taco so it is long overdue an update. Mostly, because Holy Taco has won a place in my heart, and its pork belly torta, dripping and oozing with goodness, has become my last meal on earth, if I am fortunate enough to have advanced notice. SRSLY- how can you beat three, thick pieces of pork belly, nestling with lettuce, tomato, radishes, jalapenos, and an amazing sauce (I think crema, but not sure) on a buttery, toasty torta. It is fantabulously fantabulous...and as a straight guy, I have a limit to the number of times I can use "fantabulous" in life and BAM! - there's three. Worth it. I at first did not like the chips (thick, greasy, salty), but man...they've grown on me with a fierceness- kinda like jock itch but more delicious! I now CRAVE them! The staff is great, the menu is incredibly varied and offers something for everyone, and they've gone out of their way to become an integral part of the EAV. ¡Viva Holy Taco! read more

I would love this place a whole lot more if it weren't so inconsistent. I'm a vegetarian, so I usually stick to the vegan tacos. The ingredients are usually fresh and delicious, but they've started pickling the radishes rather than having fresh ones on there. I know that's probably more "authentic" or whatever, but I miss those fresh ones. They just tasted better. I like that the menu is constantly changing, but I do miss some of my old favorites. Like, can we bring the arepas back? I know those aren't seasonal. Lastly, as other people have said, the chips are no good. This is probably to my advantage because I know I can go there without being tempted to fill up on fried chips. However, chips would be nice every now and then, and I just can't deal with Holy Taco chips. Now for the good: Servers are generally very friendly. Sometimes the service can be slow, but these guys get very busy, especially on a beautiful sunny day. By the way, that's good thing #2: all of the outside seating is really great. If it's a nice day out, I'm always really tempted to eat here. The drinks (especially the margaritas) are also very tasty. I frequent this place often, especially since it's in my 'hood. I don't know if I would bother if it weren't so convenient. But that might be more of a commentary on my laziness rather than on the restaurant itself. Holy Taco is a nice standby. I'm really glad it's there, but I'm never overly excited by the food I get there. It's still probably the best taco place in Atlanta. read more

This is no ordinary taqueria. So, let's start with the drink. The red sangria. It definitely has a kick and the fruit soaked with a bit of cinnamon was perfect. Absolutely delicious. My appetizer was the "buffalo style" pig tails. OMG!!! So good!! The serving size was enough for a party of two or more. but I wanted to see how much I could handle. I think I did okay. I had a difficult time deciding between the beef tongue, chicken hearts, or the young goat taco. Too bad they were out of the young goat. I decided to try to the chicken hearts and my server recommended the shrimp taco. The shrimp was good, but the chicken hearts taco was GREAT!! Overall, the service was good. The food was delicious. If you want to try mexican food on another level, I would definitely recommend Holy Taco. Go with a group of friends. read more

I love their trip of dips. They don't have a stirring selection of food for vegetarians--besides a few side items including this trio. Knowing that, we just go in to enjoy a drink with some queso/guac/salsa. Their salsa is Ecuadorian and had a lovely flavor. read more

The service at Holy Taco was fast and friendly. I have to say though, I was only one of three tables and it was dinner time on a Saturday. I was surprised to see that. The food was OK. I tried the bacon taco with corn salsa, horrible! It was a tough pork belly type bacon that had an odd flavor. Also, the salsa is much different than traditional salsa, not in a good way. I would stick with the classics like the Mahi Mahi taco. I think Holy Taco has good quality food, but the fusions they try sometimes don't work out. read more

Search Yelp for a vegi restaurant next time. Their job is to be friendly and serve great food, and they deserve five stars for that. This is a favorite neighborhood hangout. I. have been going to holy taco for years and getting the same thing chips and guacamole. A chicken taco. Shrimp taco. Fish taco. And occasionally the brisket taco. Love them all. I was totally outdone this past visit when I got the shrimp taco and there were 4 measly very small might I add shrimp on there. There was more pico de gallo then shrimp. My boyfriend who is a big guy orders 3 shrimp tacos and an ear of corn and was like what is this a joke. We asked can we order extra shrimp only to be advised it's the cost of another taco. So 4.00 for what 4 extra shrimp. You have got to be kidding me. The waitress even said they get a lot of complaints about it. You have got to do better Holy Taco. I got dinner here not too long ago. The place is a bit pricey for food that was meh. I ordered the salsa, street style corn, and two tacos (ground beef and goat). I was pretty disappointed that the salsa was bland and not complimentary. The street style corn was okay tasting. I think it could've used a sprinkle of some lime to enhance flavor. I did not enjoy the goat taco as much as the ground beef taco. Their brunch gave me food poisoning. But let's get to that later. I went with friends for brunch (a rushed second choice since Calavino's Soul Kitchen up and closed without notice), and decided to give this place a try since we were caught up in festival traffic. After seating ourselves and being introduced to our very helpful waiter, we had menus and decided to try their "brunch" portions. After placing our food orders, it took us about 20-25 minutes before being served our food, even with other people coming in after us and getting their food *before* us. We had the house organic margaritas, and they were delicious (the only reason this review has two stars instead of none). I received a rather disappointing huevos rancheros, which came as a runny, goopy mess of eggs with chorizo, peppers, and some unidentified grey meat (I assume it was chicken). It was also cold, as were the corn tortillas it was served with. The fish taco I had was great...except for the bones in the fish. My brunch partners each had the torta de chorizo which came with a sunny-side up egg rather than a fried egg, and the cook "did not do substitutions". They ended up just getting tacos. By the time we got the check and asked to have it split up, different items were on different checks not related to what we actually had. To the restaurant's credit, the server was new and very helpful, although overall, the height of the brunch was catching up with friends who happened to roll through. Holy hell, Holy Taco. Nix the brunch and stick to tacos. Or at least take off the huevos rancheros. My stomach (and many others) will thank you. read more

Holy shit, guys, pleeeeaassse bring back the soft shell crab torta! That thing was amazing and I'm not so much interested in the soft shell crawfish torta....has anyone else EVER eaten soft shell crawfish? Never heard of it, not interested, please please please give me that crab torta back!! As far as the rest of the restaurant goes, great place to sit outside and drink delicious margaritas, awesome pico, guac, and queso and you can smoke out there! I like this place, mainly for two reasons: 1- it's at most a 5 minute drive from home. 2 - locally-sourced/sustainable ingredients. The quality of the cooking is pretty solid, depending how busy they are. The recipes, though not for everyone, are often exotic and adventurous (beef tongue, goat, etc), which I appreciate. Th only thing I'd recommend to them is to consider adding a few simple taco options for people who aren't interested in eating novelty meats or petting zoo-fare. read more
