I had lunch at Patria Cocina and it was just an okay experience. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, so I was surprised that our server was not really attentive and our food took a while to come out. For drinks we ordered a margarita and mimosa. For food we had chicken fajitas and sopes with chicken. The food was just okay and and a little pricey for the price of almost $100 for lunch. read more

One of my favorite places for drinks and Mexican food! I usually sit at the bar and bartenders are always very nice and attentive. Love that Patria serves upscale yummy Mexican food right in my neighborhood. I ordered take out for tonight's dinner - California burrito and grilled steak fajita. My order was ready for pick up right at the time they said my meal would be ready! Two entrees did cost around $50, which is quite steep but I was shocked to find how big the portions are! My steak fajita could easily feed two people and I certainly have leftovers for tomorrow. The meat had a nice and flavorful marinade, though I wish I asked to be cooked medium since it was quite chewy cooked as medium rare. This was also served with a heaping amount of rice and veggies! The vegetables were not seasoned at all and the chicken was barely seasoned. The rice and beans were also super bland. Even the margarita was average and didn't taste like 2 ounces of tequila at all. I should've known I was in for a bad time when the chips and salsa weren't free. I was so looking forward to Mexican food today, but left disappointed. Should've just taken my tail to Tacos and Tequila. It's half the price and twice as good. This place is trying to be something they are not. The prices give high end or high quality ingredient. What a cute spot tucked away outside the city. We came in on a Sunday and had reservations, which is highly recommended and sat immediately. Service did start off a little slow, but then our server got the ball rolling and we have no further complaints except for the multiple flies and mosquitoes that swarmed and our area.. but it's summer totally understand... . On the menu is a variety for everyone we got the fajitas and esquites. Complimentary for our table was the octopus and it was delicious!!!!!! The drinks were great I got the Rosa Negra and it was delicious. If you aren't a mezcal fan I don't recommend it but the Boss Margarita was delicious as well. I have to say, this place surprised me. We walked in with an appetite and were not disappointed. The drinks were made perfectly and were very delicious. I had a watermelon drink and my wife had a lemonade type drink. Once we tried those, we had to get more and although I don't remember everything, none of them were disappointing at all. Please note the drinks we ordered were non alcoholic. The fish tacos were amazing. I haven't had fish tacos this good since San Diego. This is my first time having Patria Cocina, and I have to admit, it's some of the better tex-mex food I've had since leaving Texas. I ordered the chicken fajita platter, and was really impressed by the flavors. There were a couple things that were a bit odd about my order, however. There was a very generous portion of fajita ingredients, which I was very happy about, but they only gave me three tiny little street taco tortillas? I packed the tortillas to their limit, and still had more than half of the ingredients left. Also, with such a large amount of food, they sent the tiniest bag of tortilla chips. I appreciate the inclusion, but given that they are dirt cheap, and the platter is meant to be shared, it was strange that there was only a tiny handful of chips. I also would have loved some shredded cheese to put in my tacos, but that's just a personal preference thing. All that aside, the food was quite good, and I'd definitely eat here again. read more

We came for lunch and were surprised by a brunch menu. Three out of the four of us decided to try something from their brunch menu. The burrito was delicious and is a staple from their menu. The other options were okay. Unfortunately, I am unable to post anymore photos but I think next time I'd go with their tried and true menu. I was feeling like having some me time on July 3rd so I decided to stop by Patria Cocina for some food and I will say the restaurant did not disappoint. The restaurant inside decor and patio decor was phenomenal. Upon walking into the restaurant, I was nicely greeted and accommodated to a 4 top on the patio. The restaurant was very busy for a Monday before the 4th so to be dining alone that day and still receive amazing service was very nice. I was sat on the patio by request and thank God they have fans on the patio because it was very hot that day. I kept my order very simple and ordered a steak quesadilla and can I rate the meal a 10/10? Because it was. The steak was nice and tender and the cheese,lettuce, guacamole and rice paired nicely with the meal. My server was extra amazing because I was looking for a refreshing margarita and she gave me a margarita recommendation off the menu called "Gema". It had passion fruit, hibiscus and tequila in it and it was not only stunning in appearance but it also tasted amazing. I had the other patrons at table next to me inquiring about my beverage because it was a show stopper. Parking is on the slim side so you may have to circle the parking lot a few times because parking is limited to the other business that share the plaza but there is street parking but I'm not sure how it's set up since there are apartment complex that also share the vicinity. Either way this restaurant is a great place to bring your family, friends or a date. The food and drinks will not disappoint. Overall the drinks and food are a 10/10. Run don't walk. read more

What an experience! Patria Cocina is a great place to have an outdoor dinner. The patio is comfortable and covered with umbrellas so you're shaded when it's sunny. I can't say enough about the service, it was both informed and attentive without being invasive. THE FOOD .. let's just talk about the ceviche. I've never had one like it, it's a delicious combination of sweet, smoky, spicy and bright it perfectly compliments the seafood and the octopus was so tender, it's served with fresh tostadas. The esquites was delicious and perfectly seasoned, it's a nice shareable portion for 2-4 people. For my entree I chose enchiladas with an assortment of sauces and they were all delicious, the mojo is very rich and so good, I think the tomatillo salsa was my favorite, it was just that good. I only go here for two things: the drinks and the ambiance. I LOVE their drink selection and the bar tenders are always making cool things not on the menu. The ambiance and environment is cool. It's nestled in Grant Park, forgot what the area is called, but it's both an inside and outdoor restaurant. I love sitting on the patio, but it's hard to get seating out there. I feel like this is the spot for families as every time I go there are strollers and kiddos running amuck. That doesn't kill my vibe though, keep the drinks and cheese dip coming. I've had several of their food dishes and there's nothing that I've had that I really loved. Service is always A1 as well. Overall: 7/10 read more

First off, this small pocket area is truly developing big time near grant park. I originally went to a restaurant in the little plaza but decided to leave and walk next door Patria. It's best to make reservations for a table. We were greeted with smile from the host. They have a huge patio with coverings. My friend and I found spots at the bar. All the bartenders are nice. Make sure to ask about their secret drink menu for some of their unique special drinks. I really enjoyed the Black Diamond with is delicious thirst quenching. I also ordered guacamole and queso dip for apps. I don't do guac that often but it was really good. I didn't even add any additional seasonings. The queso was also good choice. I also tried the carne taco and shrimp taco which were both good. I chose chicken for the meat and it was juicy and had a nice sear on it. The three shrimp were juicy and fries with the right amount of seasoning. Parking is available in the lot and street where you can find one.
