Nuevo Laredo Cantina is one of those Atlanta gems that stays packed for a reason. It's tucked into the West Midtown area, not far from The Ten Spot, Topgolf, and Chattahoochee Food Works, so it's easy to work into a day or night out in the area. The atmosphere is lively, colorful, and full of personality. It feels like the kind of neighborhood spot people keep coming back to, and judging by how busy it usually is, that's exactly what happens. The food is consistently good, portions are generous, and a cold Modelo goes perfectly with the meal. It can definitely get crowded, so I'd go expecting a wait during peak times. But to me, that's part of the charm. Places don't stay this busy for this long unless they're doing something right. I love this place. I've eaten there about three times and have ordered pickup around ten times. Unfortunately, the online ordering website doesn't seem to work anymore. My only complaint is that when you order takeout in person, they add a 15% takeout fee. I think that's excessive because we're not dining in, being seated, or interacting with a server--we're simply placing an order, picking it up, and taking it home. I don't really see what additional cost justifies that fee. The food is great, but the takeout fee makes ordering from here less appealing. Ambience is good. read more

We've been making our way to Nuevo Laredo Cantina for about 15 years, and it's still one of our favorites. My ride-or-die order is the shrimp fajitas, they're consistently amazing. Went here after porchfest a couple weeks ago and boy was it what I needed. The food was amazing. I ate up the queso and salsa they give you as an appetizer. The queso was so fresh I felt like it could have passed for fondue. I ate a lot of it also due to it taking awhile to get our food. I can't complain too much because they are extremely busy and I got that impression from the last time we tried to come here during cinco de mayo and there were people eating outside. Maybe a bigger establishment would help ease the congestion. It is a tight place inside with what looked like only one room to seat people. Note: do not come here if you want a fast and quick meal. I know this place has been around for awhile and every time I drive by it, I've always said that we should try. Well today happened to be that day and it did not disappoint. They have a few parking spots in front of the building and if I'm not mistaken, you could also park across the street? The place isn't very big but they do have 2 floors. We waited for the hostess so she could seat us and ended up sitting in the basement. As soon as we sat down, chips and salsa were placed on our table. When our server came to our table, we placed our order. My hubby got a mezcal tequila that he enjoyed. We were lucky to still catch their lunch special - yes, they have it on the weekends. I got the chicken chimichangas which I enjoyed. I'm glad it was a smaller sized burrito though. We also shared the guacamole and this was a different take because you mixed it yourself. I stopped by Nuevo Laredo Cantina with a large group (12 or so people) after a sports tournament and it absolutely hit the spot! Our group was quickly accommodated on a Sunday night without a reservation, and we were served promptly. I got the mango margarita with a sugar rim, which was amazingly sweet (exactly what I wanted!) and had some of their complimentary chips and salsa, which were perfectly crispy and salty. I ordered the enchiladas de pollo con mole and they were great. It seemed to come with 2 enchiladas, and a side of rice, beans, and lettuce and tomato. It hit the spot! A bit smaller of a portion of the enchiladas than I am used to but still plenty of food, and well worth it for the price. I finished my meal with tres leches, which was phenomenal. The seasoning on top was great, and the cake was perfectly soaked with the milk. Service was super nice and quick. I've been eating here I know for at least 25 years. The Mexican food here is representative of the style of food prepared in the Tamaulipas region of Mexico. I can totally recommend the Brisket Tacos, or another personal fave the Shrimp Tacos... today I stopped in for lunch and had two soft beef tacos with rice and beans - the service here is reliably good - many of the servers have been here for years and are like friends because I've seen them so many times over the years. I love the quirky decor, and the intimate feel of the place - it feels cozy, warm and inviting. If you come to any restaurant enough you will catch them on a day where they have a "miss" - but they will do their best to make it up to you - just say something. Ugh. I was so excited to try this. It looks so cute on the outside, and it's also cute on the inside. We sat down, were greeted promptly, took our drink order and queso, all were back within 3 minutes or so. My boyfriend ordered quesadillas with no onion or peppers and there were lots of onions and peppers inside. I got 2 tacos, they were carne asada and neither street tacos nor fajita tacos, very odd and felt overly seasoned in a Taco Bell seasoning pack kind of way. I have had really good Tex mex and Mexican food, but that was neither. The service was fine, our server was nice, and it wasn't expensive. After a few tries of coming here and going somewhere else because the line was out the door, I finally tried Nuevo Laredo Cantina. Frankly, I have no idea why this place is so popular. It's just not good Mexican food in a city that doesn't lack good Mexican options. My wife ordered the taco lunch special and the tacos looked like a bigger version of what you would get at Taco Bell or Del Taco. I had the tamale plate. The red sauce that came with it wasn't great (and had corn kernels??? in it) and the rice and beans were flavorless. Our margaritas were both way too sweet, and mine was warm. My husband and I brought my teenage son for his first visit with his friends to celebrate his birthday. Staff is super competent and welcoming. Our drinks were refilled numerous times and the free chips and salsa were amazing. We also got the queso which was delicious. My son and friend split the beef fajitas with an extra order of flour tortillas, other friend got chicken enchiladas, my husband ordered the shrimp barbacoa, and I tried the Holy Tacsos, a vegetarian dish which was unique to me and delicious. I seriously cannot believe I am even posting this. A few coworkers and I went to lunch today. I ordered the Carne Asada tacos and they ordered off the lunch menu. First off our waitress was just rude and not friendly. We had chips and salsa, cheese dip, and I got a side of burrito sauce cause I wanted to try it. When we got our meal I asked for some more salsa for chips and my food and she forgot it and I had to ask again. She brought it out. When it came to paying we split it three ways.... She charged me for salsa and the burrito sauce. Now I understand maybe the burrito sauce but never in the 30 something years of going to any Mexican restaurant have I been charged for shared salsa at a Mexican restaurant, it comes with your food!!! That is hands down the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Quite frankly, it's embarrassing. When I asked her about it she said, "yup " with an attitude. This is my 2nd time ever have been to this restaurant and the first waiter never did that, it was clearly a her issue with me. I talked this place up so much to everyone and now I have to advise them they nickel and dime you for every little thing. One of the oldest, best true authentic Mexican food. The food, the service and overall ambiance is just so great. Went for a lunch on a working day. Make sure to reach there by 11am if don't want to wait. The place is super crowded - both levels just because it's so famous and so good. I've been wanting to come here for a while & happened to be in the area, so I stopped by. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon and there were a few people there. They do have a free parking lot but it's tinyyyyy. The restaurant itself has a small bar area & 2 seating areas. I don't see the second seating area, but the restaurant definitely holds more people than it suggests from the outside. We ordered the chimichanga & tacos & weren't disappointed. The food was good! The way they arranged the tacos looks good aesthetically, but it made it a bit messy to eat. They are a little pricey compared to most Mexican restaurants, but the pricing still wasn't bad. The Cantina is easy to locate with its bright and cheery entrance and there is free parking. We had a 20 minute wait for two on a Thursday evening, which was fine to gather and catch up under the full moon outside on the red brick steps. The vibe inside is happy and full of laughter with amazing rich aromas. Our server was very knowledgeable and a helpful guide. The chicken soup is out of this world with a meaty presentation-a meal in itself. I opted for the white meat, but you can also choose dark meat or shredded for the chicken. The chicken is served on a flavorful bed of Mexican rice and you can add at leisure to the warm broth with lime and avocado. A great experience overall! Tried a new dish at one of my favorite mexican spots. The waitress recommended anything with steak or brisket so I opted for the brisket barbacoa with rice and the mexican mashed potatoes. Not my favorite dish as I felt the brisket wasnt anything special. It tasted like unseasoned pot roast covered in sauce. The mexican mashed potatoes tasted like regular mashed potatoes but we're good. Service was good even with it being packed as always. Very quick wait time for my party of 2.
