My second visit was a huge improvement over my first and it is all because of yelp. I went with the sopes which were on the top of the best selling menu posted on yelp and they were really excellent. Fresh fried masa flour with beans and the protein of your choice. I went with chicken but they have other options including cow tongue. This is a very authentic place. I was the only Anglo there and much of the staff struggles with English. Not a bad thing, but be prepared. I love that the full kitchen is visible from the dining area. Everything is clean and organized because every customer can see it. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I like this place more and more. read more

We visited on a weekday evening. There is no hostess, and we were told to find our own table. Our server came over with the menu, took our drink and food orders. My wife, son, and I ordered some street tacos. While the Al Pastor wasn't amazing, it was decent. The tacos were only $3.50, which is cheaper than the $5+ going rate that's in the area. So you come in and it's authentic Mexican Vibes all over the place. You will hear the Spanish music playing and you can automatically assume that it's going to be some good food! The tacos are fairly cheap, actually most of the mini was fairly cheap. Well let me not say cheap let me just say reasonable and cost efficient. You can definitely smell the food as soon as you walk in the door. They served a myriad of different beers that you can pick from as well. It's not a large spot, it says it can only hold about 90 people. But that's fine. The layout is a little bit pushed together but that's not a showstopper! Fish, Shrimp, Chicken and Steak. The tacos were decent nothing spectacular. Definitely traditional Mexican tacos which I can appreciate. I have been here before they change the menu. It of course has gone up as other places have gone up in price. I sat in the front area and the seats definitely were overdue for cushioning/repair. It was very uncomfortable to sit on! I don't remember them being this uncomfortable before when I sat on them! The food is still good. But the quantity of food has gone down. I ordered the Carne Asada. I used to get two Steak strips I only got one , although still very tasty. I also ordered the Torta Toluquena. Which is a sandwich with tasty combination of chorizo and roasted pork and other ingredients. The service is very very slow so if you have lots of time on your hand this place is for you! Been years since I was here and it's just as good as before. Tuesday night and there were only 3 tables open which was a good sign. Service was as attentive as one should expect in a casual place. So glad a friend showed me this spot that has some legit tacos. You can tell by the folks that work here that they have traditional Mexican food. As in street tacos, not the overpriced $5+ tacos in fancy restaurants. I got a fried fish and al pastor taco ($3ish per taco). They were both delicious. They had Valencia hot sauce here, which is a bonus. Warning: when you get home, you might want to let your clothes air out. I didn't smell it while I was in the restaurant, but I made the mistake of putting my clothes in my closet; the next morning I walked in and it smelled of onions...yikes! But it's really dry. The flour tortilla are not handmade or fresh. So $4-per taco isn't justified. Corn tortilla tastes great. Came here last night during Covid to try out some new tacos and wasn't disappointed in the food at all. Great pico (thanks Brittany for the recommendation!) and decent tacos. I really wanted to love this place but it just left me with a stomach ache. Ambiance: The major qualm I have about this place is that it is NASTY. The floor was literally in a film of grease throughout the whole place. So many tables were not cleaned and tbh, it looked like a 90s McDonald's in there (a greasy wreck and not the new modern hotel looking McDonald's lol) I'm not a picky gal about cleanliness on buhi and hole in the wall places but bruh, at least clean off the tables? I should've walked out after I saw how dirty the restaurant was but I shrugged it off as just the charm of Buhi and now I'm paying for it the next day. The bathroom was out of paper towels as well so if you like to wash your hands before you eat (especially during Covid), just bank on air drying your hands by waving them around. Food: I got the pastor, steak, and shrimp tacos and they were huge. We also got cheese dip and pico. Both dips were fantastic! The pico really does taste super fresh. The steak tacos were too fatty and gristly for my liking but the corn tortillas were delish. La Pastorcita is a very authentic Mexican restaurant located in Brookhaven. I was brought here by a Mexican friend who hates Tex-Mex and only tries to find very authentic places to eat so that says a lot. Some stuff they offer, that isn't as likely to be found as often, are the Nopalitos, Mole, Menudo, Pozole, and they also have a lot of Seafood Dishes. I ordered Fajitas Mixtas because that's usually what I get. The Mixtas comes with steak, chicken, and shrimp and are served with sautéed veggies. I loved the homemade tortillas as well. The food was good. Only concern I have was with the staff, and how dirty the restaurant was. I think they could work on that and maybe the experience would've been better. I've been getting tacos from La Pastorcita since I moved to the area over 2 yrs ago. The tacos have been consistently delicious. I usually order the carne asada tacos, which are simple, tasty, and dependable. They come topped with traditional accoutrements - onions and cilantro :) You order the nachos however you want them and they make them perfectly every time! This is a neighborhood favorite, so they're consistently busy from open to close. If you're looking for no-frills Mexican, I def recommend La Pastorcita. read more

Solid place for tacos; tacos are a decent size, more-so "normal size" as opposed to the small street tacos. I got the lengua and pastor taco and both were decent. The lengua was tender! Alone, the tacos are a bit bland, but the salsa verde is good - adds some flavor and a subtle kick. I believe the pastor was $3.49 and the lengua was $3.69, or something along those lines. The table chips came out quite late into our meal, but at least they were fresh! Service is friendly and environment feels authentic. Amazing! The fish tacos (pictured, a little messy from transit) are the best I've ever had! I love that it's a patty... looks kind of like a McDonald's hash brown (in the best way)! The rice and beans are a classic side I always go with as well as an appetizer of queso dip--all yummy! If you're going back and forth on the shrimp or fish tacos definitely go with the fish! DO NOT ORDER from this place, whatever you do. In our case, they only delivered two meals -- after we ordered three and have the receipt to prove it. Calling the restaurant and explaining the matter was akin to trying to explain quantum physics to a chimpanzee. Yes, there was a language barrier, but it went well beyond that as both my wife and I speak Spanish, while listening to them attempt to blame the problem on Grubhub -- who delivered everything they were given. To add insult to injury, after they told us they would make good and deliver the third meal to correct what they f_cked up, they did not. Consequently, we had to dispute the charge after 3 1/2 hours from the time we ordered the original meal and received nothing, despite being told otherwise. The worst part of all of this is that we were loyal customers, ordering from this place on a regular basis. My point: it all went well, until it didn't -- and this is how they treated us after they screwed up absolutely everything, and then did it all over again, when supposedly trying to fix what they initially screwed up. All in all, it's too much of a cross to bear when there is better Hispanic food, that is far less salt, and can be had at a far better price, in the area. read more
