Would you trust a righteous man-of-the cloth? I did, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. First of all, I live in Fairways of Woodlake, and I take great pride in my home. Since the first cold spell in October, I'd been having problems with the upstairs furnace. I called the warranty company, and they sent over a technician from a local AC firm. He stated that the problem was that the exhaust cap was blocked, so I had the roofers come up and inspect vent. No problem was found. The same firm came back four more times after each claimed that they had fixed the problem. Finally in January, after four months of dickering with this firm, I finally decided to replace the entire system furnace and all. I interviewed four local firms including John Wayne, San Antonio Air, Air Force AC & Htg, and Tex-Perts. In the end, I still wasn't convinced, so I decided to check out Google and Yelp reviews to see what kind of ratings and feedback each of these firms had. In the process I came across the reviews for Home AC Repair, and I was impressed by their five star ratings as well as the positive comments left by others. So I decided to take one more chance and interview this firm, and I am glad I did. Manuel showed up promptly the next day, and the first thing he did upon entering my home was put on booties over his shoes in order to protect my floors. Wow! that really impressed me. He went upstairs and inspected the old unit. Afterwards, he came down and explained the problems with my system, drew out a diagram of how the system worked, and gave me options without pushing anything in particular. It was totally up to me to decide. You know that feeling when your little voice talks to you and tells you to follow your intuition? Well, my little voice was telling me that this was an honest man, and he was telling me the truth. It was like my spirit could identify with this other spirit, and that's a good thing. This is so rare nowadays when everyone is trying to one-up another. On January 29, 2018, my 12-year-old unit was completely replaced: ducts, vents, furnace, condenser, and all. Gone was the old Goodman, and in its place was a brand new 16 SEER Silver American Standard unit. But the best was yet to come. At the end of the day after the work was done and we were going over the paperwork, Manuel told me that he was the pastor of Ignite Church. I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS MAN, and I was right; I am so glad I listened to my little voice--like picking the stock that eventually goes on to triple in value or picking the winning lottery numbers. This man did not come over and use his position to win the job; he did not come here saying, "You should hire me cause I am a man of God." No, instead he used his character to speak for itself and win the job. That really blew me away. I have plans to replace the downstairs unit next, and you can be sure that I will be calling Manuel and his crew again. I needed to completely replace my aging five ton, 10 SEER air conditioning/heating system. Since I plan on living in this house in my retirement, I wanted to install the best system available. In doing my research, I discovered there were varied opinions on which air conditioning system was the best but a few systems generally seemed to be the preferred brands. What every review did agree upon was that proper installation was the most critical factor in the whole process and choosing the installer would, to some extent, dictate which system I would purchase. With this in mind I decided to settle on estimates from three companies: two I selected through Google reviews, both very prominent companies which had hundreds of reviews with a combined score of 4.8 of a possible 5.0, the third, Home AC Repair, the company which had helped keep my tired, old system running despite its almost 20 years of service. They held a rating slightly better than 4.8. As each of the first two companies made their presentations I got a good feeling about which system I preferred and that was a five ton, 20 SEER Trane with an ultraviolet light. Each salesman reaffirmed that installation was the key and, they were the best choice for the job. When the first two companies finished their proposals, to say I was shocked by their bids is an understatement. They ranged from $24,000.00 to $28,000.00. They boasted about having the only two companies with mechanical engineers on their respective staffs and special monitoring programs. Manuel with Home AC Repair was my last estimate presentation. As I mentioned earlier, Manuel had helped keep my previous system running. He and his crew also did some repair work on my old unit fixing problems caused by the initial, improper installation thereby greatly improving its performance. (Just to give you an idea how bad it was, the previous owners had installed a ceiling fan in the master bath over the garden tub because the air was not conditioned in there. Their repair fixed that problem.) An important note is that one of the other company's salesman noted the work they had done and said that whoever did the repair (Manual and his crew) had done a nice job. Manuel and Home AC Repair do not have a mechanical engineer on their staff nor offered a special monitoring program, they came in with an estimate $10,000.00 below the big guys matching every other feature and inspection the other companies offered and even added a few extras. No engineering was required because they were basically plugging a new system in where the old one was and I haven't had a monitoring system for the 9+ years. I accepted his bid and am very happy I did! My preference is to always try to go with the "local" guy/girl. Someone I can have a relationship with. Manuel is that guy. When I needed help with my old unit, I always got same day service. When they installed my new unit, they were very professional, courteous and left their workspace better than they found it. I'm having my first inspection (a free evaluation included with the purchase) and am looking forward to his visit. I think you will find him both professional, personable and more importantly a fair price. Since I've had my new system installed, my average electric bills have dropped from the upper 100s to about $86.00/mo. I'm anxious to see my summer bills! (This is a bit long winded, I apologize. After much deliberation and saving we decided to replace are AC and Furnace system. First of all, I don't know anyone in SA that does this type of work which made it hard to figure out a good price or who to trust. Hopefully, this will help others in their search: All quotes are for a 3.5 ton system for a 1630 sq ft house. Jon Wayne: In short, a good show and presentation on what they do. But you pay for the show, they cost the most at about $10,350 for a 16 seer Bryant system. Not sure on the details of the warranty but I think it was for only 1 year labor, 10 years on parts. Special note: They don't let you keep a copy of the quote. Champion AC: 15 seer Amana System with 1 year labor and 10 years parts. $7680. The had some questionable reviews with the BBB. They did offer the first 2 check ups for free. Texas Air Masters: They offered the lowest price, but did an over the phone quote which left me uneasy since I knew they were going to have issue with the current furnace vent pipe and the old closet platform (water issues with old system). I brought them up and he seemed to rethink his price also, but he may have stuck with it. They install their own brand systems and it has allot of extras with it. 16 seer with UV light and 6-12 inch air filter for $6197.00. I like the fact they had the extras for the price but my closet would have been an issue for them to install in. 1 year warranty for labor and 10 on parts. Greenleaf: This is who I went with and so far so good with the furnace. AC will have to be proven this summer. I liked Manuel and he was the most detailed in his assessment of the current system. He was responsive to my questions and calls and came back with a bid to address all my concerns and with a fare price. His proposal was nice as it was preformatted and checked off all the items they would install or do and the prices of different system types. I went with a 16 seer Trane 2 stage system, with all typical installation features, replaced all exhaust pipe, new platform, resealed all ducts and the kicker - 10 years parts and labor for no extra cost. Most wanted $400 to $800 for 10 years on the labor. Total price: $6500.00. They worked through some issue and had to come back a 2nd day to finish the exhaust pipe and replace a door jamb that had to be removed to get the system in the closet. All workers were very nice and humble and did a great job on the install. A few things I would recommend they do for future installs, don't were shoes through the house, protect walls from grease or accidental bumps, but this is petty. Manuel answered all of our questions when we called and agreed to come out. We actually had to ask him to wait and then to reschedule in which he did without hesitation. When he came out he looked over everything and addressed all of our concerns. He sat down with us and explained in detail what our options were. He answered every single question that we had without going around in circles or just trying to sell us on one thing or the most expensive thing. He provided us with multiple options and even gave us more upon request. We decided to hire him and he showed up on time as promised even called in advance to let us know he was coming. Him and his workers were all very professional from start to finish. The job seemed challenging, but they kept a great spirit through out and always kept me in the loop as to what was going on. We are new home owners with an older home. 6 months in and all the sudden our AC wouldn't turn on. I looked at countless HVAC companies and reviews from different sites and from some reviews thought we may be in for a huge bill especially if we needed a new unit. Called Home AC Repair at 9pm thinking they'd be here the next day, Saturday. I don't remember the gentleman's name that took our call but he said it was possible he could have someone at my house that evening. Indeed he was right. John came out around 10pm and even though it was late did a thorough inspection, even with my 2 small children following him around. Can't say enough good things about John and this company. Not only was his customer service impeccable but that our unit simply didn't have the "door" to the blowing unit closed, it had come loose. He could have taken me for a ride and run up a huge bill with technical terms and things I had no knowledge of. I'm mechanically illiterate and would have agreed to whatever he suggested. He, and I assume the company pride themselves on being one of the honest/good guys! My bill was only $20 and John was there for an hour checking other components. You just don't see this type service anymore. Again, I can't say how happy I am that I happen to choose this company for my HVAC work. We now have their number in our phones for AC and heating issues. I was having problems with my new A/C unit that I purchased from another company 3 years ago. I didn't want to call the company that installed it, so I researched to see what the reviews were on other A/C companies. I was impressed with the reviews that Home A/C repair had, so I called them. Manuel was the one who answered the call. I explained to him the problem I was having and told him that I have 4 dogs at home and really can't be without A/C. He was great about it. I wasn't able to leave work since I was the only one running the office. He was gracious enough to work with my schedule and came out at 5:30 pm. I told him I thought it was low Freon. He said with a new unit, it shouldn't be. He looked over and tested both inside and outside units. He discovered that the Freon was low and said there was a leak on the back of the inside unit. He filled the Freon and advised me he would call RUUD the next day to see about this being replaced under the warranty. The next day Manuel called RUUD, only to discover the other company who I purchased the unit from, never called the unit it for the warranty, therefore the 10 year warranty was now only a 5 year warranty. He then called me to advise me of the situation. He gave me RUUD's number to see if they may honor the full 10 year warranty and to schedule for the replacement of the unit. My heat pump's blower quit working Jan 1st late afternoon. I tried calling the company that repaired it back in 2012 (who took over business from the installing company), got a weird message from them about not taking calls. Figured maybe it was a closed on January 1st thing and I'd try 'em next morning. 28 degree temps overnight equals very cold evening in the house, temp got to 56 degrees by morning. While shivering overnight wondered if maybe they were just out of business and decided to scope out reviews for other local repair shops. After comparing reviews for a few local shops I picked top 3 and decided to give Home AC Repair a call at 8AM. Left a message, they called back at 8:08, set an appointment for around 1:30. They called back at 9 and said they could stop by within the hour, which was great. Diagnosed and Repaired in under an hour. Manuel (I think, can't read the bill writing too easily) was very personable, courteous, professional. Went right to the issue, verified it was the problem (capacitor on blower motor), had replacement part on hand, replaced it, tested that the motor operated, stuck around until the system kicked on and started heating the house. Reasonable price for call and parts. Note: Military discount is available, as a military retiree that's very much appreciated. Any issues my system has in the future I'm definitely calling Home AC Repair again. read more

we decided to update our old a/c system. we did some research on line, called a few a/c companies to submit a bid, only one company sent a tech to inspect the old system and decide what else needed to be replaced, ducts, insulation, etc. The tech said "we'll get back to you with an estimate." We never heard from them again. After reading the reviews on Home a/c repair, we decided to call them, set up an appoint. Manuel came Saturday, after inspecting the old setup, the supply and return plenums on the old air handler, would have to be replaced because the new air handler was bigger. we got a bid after a few minutes of number crunching. the bid was competitively so we accepted. The job was completed yesterday 11-30-16 and we're satisfied with a job well done, everything needed was included, heat pump, air handler, new digital programmable t-stat and some ductwork, especially the bigger plenums, we have plenty a airflow now. After doing the final inspection in the attic we noticed that our second a/c was acting up, the unit was working, but stuck on heat mode, even when the t-stat was off, it wouldn't shut off. Manuel kindly inspected the controls and found some frayed wires making contact bypassing the t-stat. He cut the bad wires and reconnected the controls, that took care of the problem. A+ My husband and I were already stressed out that our AC went out in the middle of the night. so I went on Yelp and found a 24hr AC company that was available. A young man came out a few hrs later and told us our compressor went out. My husband an I looked at each in disbelief because we've had our compressor go out before and it wasn't the same as what was going on now. After the young man completed his inspiration, he stated that he wasn't able to fix it that night and would come back the following day. Well the following day came and he was a no show. Which I'm glad He didn't or we would've never found Home AC repair. After being in the heat too long and reading other reviews on Yelp , we decided to call Home AC repair. Outstanding.. First off, I'm not one to write reviews, but I made an exception this time. I knew my 17 year old 4 ton unit was barely holding on. Sure enough it kicked the bucket last week. I did my homework and decided to give Home AC Repair a call. I had two inspections schedule for the next day. One with Home AC Repair and one with Champion AC. Manuel (owner of Home AC) came by first. I had already known that it was time for a new system, but I let Manuel do his inspection. Sure enough I got the dreaded news. I was given my options and let me tell you Manuel was very thorough on breakdown of the each model. This is what sold me. I know the smart thing to do is the get a few bids, but my gut told me this was the guy for the job. There was no need for Champion AC to come over. Manuel returned my call and even though they were booked for the day he promised to come by in the evening as soon as they were free. Johnny came by to check the unit upstairs and the outside unit. I was expecting a huge repair quote as this has been my past experience in dealing with two major companies. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I was told the door that covers the furnace was loose causing the unit to turn off. Johnny offered to duct tape it to keep it closed until I can order a new one. There was no up-selling, nor long winded computer program telling me how great the company was. I am not charged to support a team of 12 people to do the job. I was told by two companies after Manuel left that told me that I needed to replace over 20 feet of copper tubing, and that I needed another vented opening made. Manuel reassured me that I didn't need it or he would have told me if I did. That is one heck of an honest business man. Just a heads up: they (and many other businesses) do not work on AC window/wall units. Unfortunately, I forgot to mention our AC was a window unit and they didn't ask before the guy showed up. That being said, they were very responsive and very polite. The guy that showed up drove all the way from Converse to Southtown San Antonio during heavy traffic, only to find out it was a window unit and there wasn't anything he could do. He even called his manager to make sure and was super polite and professional when he left. They also worked with us to set up a time for them to come out. I initially called late in the afternoon and they were willing to come out as late as 7-9pm to start working. I feel horrible that they didn't make anything off the visit, so I'm hoping this review will at least send more business their way. read more

Manuel was one of three contractors to give us estimates for a complete replacement unit. He fully explained all our options, prices and scope of work on this estimate. AC stopped working friday, called 3 diff Big Name companies and only 1 even came out, and that 1 gave a high quote. Called Home AC Repair on monday, and he came out within 2 hours, gave me the repair quote (cheaper than the other guy), AND had it done the same day (3 hours total)!!! Called and cancelled the other 2 big names that never even came by yet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Also, even HOME AC's trip fee was WAY less than the others.
