Not just for seniors! Peace of mind and service is what this company is all about. I recently traveled out of to see my family. My husband is in a wheelchair. My husband is in his early 50's and while he insists he is independent I needed to know that he was safe since I was going to be four states away in the middle of winter. I hired Home Instead to come in every other day to assist him with light housework and prepare meals. On the third day of my trip he slipped out of bed on to the floor. He called Home Instead. They were there quickly and made sure that he was safe and got him up off the floor and comfortable. I was kept up to date of every step along the way. This is a HORRIBLE senior health care company. I popped in, unexpectedly and found 80% of his pantry and refrigerator EXPIRED by 2 1/2 years or more, anchovies over 4 years and absolutely NO SIGN of"light cooking" nor "basic light cleaning.". I did spot the Home Instead Caregiver up at the local Cody's Steak House. Not only had she ordered the largest steak on the menu but, she toted away several bags of new orders and any left overs. When they returned, there were NO LEFTOVERS in my Fathers fridge and she didn't return for almost three days and left my Father with severe dementia and Alzheimers with NOTHING but, slices of American cheese and Wonder Bread. My father-in-law relocated from out of state to live with us, and we needed a responsible and capable caretaker for him during weekdays while my wife and I were at work. Sandy came out and spoke to the three of us, asking relevant questions that were not too intrusive about his health and background. She also answered our questions and was well-versed with the safety practices and guidelines around home care. We were uncomfortable with having a stranger taking care of a loved one, but Sandy assured us she had a qualified candidate in mind. The day Adrianna Medrano arrived, we saw quickly how skilled, knowledgable, and motivated she was. What we hadn't counted on was how quickly she would become a caring friend to my father-in-law. She was extremely patient and nurturing with him and knew how to motivate him to overcome his physical challenges, get him moving and active. The time she spent with him was always interactive--spirited conversations, discussing family or some news event while having meals, taking numerous trips to parks or driving around sightseeing. Had Adriana been insincere, he would have picked up on it; fortunately her genuine caring was apparent to him and us. He became so attached to her that he would look forward to Mondays when she would return. We're grateful for how she became part of our family for those months, and thankful to Home Instead for bringing such a great person to watch over our loved one. read more

This review is NOT about Michelle Rogers team It is about a different team- we called them as the patient had a prior relationship. Curiously, they repeatedly resisted letting us meet the care giver prior to providing care for a post major surgery patient, We don't know why they resisted sharing any kind of experience description and finally, after the 3rd request, shared 3 lines of their experience. They Insisted on two weeks minimum commitment and payment up front. After considerable assurances that they had a great qualified candidate -at the 11th hour, they switched the person that arrived for specialized training -without advanced notice. They provided a person that cleaned a bit and completed a few prepacked meals and wandered around the rest of the time. Finally they agreed to replace the person with a very nice, young, less experienced person to complete the contract. Took some time to receive the agreed upon refund for hours that the care giver could not work. read more

Home Instead Senior Care were hired to come in and fill in when our regular caregivers were not available. They made assurances that they would care for our parents and could meet our care needs as we outlined it during our first meeting with them. BUT what we ran into is that they were unwilling to do as we instructed based on the recommendations by our parents doctors. They would not adjust the varied oxygen levels as need during day, night or with activity as required by the doctor, they would not fill the humidifier on their oxygen concentrators when the water level was low. My father stops breathing in his sleep and now that his heart is weakened, his heart can stop if his breathing stops for to long. So it was requested that they shake to wake him if he stopped breathing for 20-25 seconds, whereby preventing his heart stopping, but they refused. He doesn't want CPR (he fears broken ribs) if his heart stops, but he and we want to prevent the heart from stopping and the hospital suggested shake and wake to prevent this from happening. Hospice wanted to add a medication when can cause respiratory depression and the family wanted a 2nd opinion before doing so, we as that Home Instead hold giving this medication until we got that 2nd opinion. They indicated that they would do as instructed by hospice, rather than abiding by our wishes. As it worked out, we are adding the medication, but in at a much lower dose, if they had given him the higher dose, he might not be with us now. All that we had asked was that they hold off for one, maybe two days to allow us to talk to the hospice doctor more, and to get the input of another doctor on the issue, but they were unwilling to abide by the families' wishes. There were lots of other issues that we had with there staff where instructions given and not followed. It was as if it did not matter if we were the one's paying bill, they were going to take over and do it their way, period. They also sent a letter on a Monday, telling us that the Sunday night before was their last day for care because they didn't want to work with our other staff from another company. They tried to PUSH us into only hiring their company, by saying that they would stay on if we would let our other caregivers go and only work with their company. I am sure you saw my sister Bre's review of them. I was glad that they "FIRED" us so to speak, I would have liked more notice but if they had not backed out, I was pushing the family to cancel their contract with us. I found them unbending and unwilling to work with the family or abide by our wishes. I would not HIRE them if they were the only home health care company in the world. I know that there are other's who have not experience what we did, maybe they have not had other caregivers to compare them to, but we have been working with another company for more than 6 mos and our only issue is that they don't have as many employees, so we were short staff for awhile. The funny thing is the day that they sent the letter that they couldn't care for our parents any longer, we got 5 applications for new employees that are through our original company. So when a "door closes, a window opens," praise God! It has only been 2 days since they quite and we now have all the staff we can handle and things are running more normal and easier then they did during the weeks that we had Home Instead working in our home! read more
